[Q] About 4K videos in MX Player - Xperia Z5 Premium Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone.
I bought a Xperia Z5 Premium Dual last month and I want to use it for movies. But the app Movies doesn't support DD 5.1 and AAC audio so I used MX Player. Do the 4K upscaling and Image Enhancements work in MX Player? Does the MX Player downscale 4K videos to 1080p? When I watch a 1080p video in MX Player, if I choose SW decoder, the details seem to be smoother (I can't see pixels), and if I choose HW/HW+ decoder, the details seem to be clearer (I can see pixels).
Sorry for my bad English.

That would be an interesting thing to figure out.
The only objective test I can think of doing on a single device is going into Airplane mode and playing a long(~30min) 4K video on both players with identical brightness settings (H/W and S/W on MX).
Afterwards compare battery percentage drop, or ideally measure power consumption with an external application for more detailed results
Whenever the power drain is less, should mean it's rendering at 1080p
If you have some time on your hands, go crazy. I can try it over the weekend

Just use tubemate app (search on google)
You will find the option to download videos in 4k mp4 because z5p supports mp4 format easily and after you will download you can see there will be a 4k lable in album apps (i mean on the latest file you downloaded)

That or OGYoutube. OGYoutube is the normal Youtube app with a few extra features, such as downloading.

[Q] Playing videos on WildfireS

I have heard WildfireS can play Xvid and Divx movies (.avi files)
Is this true ?
Yes it can but only software decoding mode (I watch them with moboplayer which install a codec pack for this).

Hello, I find moboplayer leggy and sound and video out of sync. Can you share your experience.
Is there a way to play video on this phone without problems?
Hi,
what are the properties of the file you are trying to play? what is the codec (divx, xvid, H264...) and the container/file format (avi, wmv, mkv, mp4....)? And also te resolution of the video file.
Real fact:
1. one StarTrek TNG episode (350MB file size); container: avi; resolution: 512x384, codec DIV3 (DivX 3) it plays very smooth with mobo player in hardware decode mode
2. one The Big Bang episode (175MB size); container avi; resolution: 624x352, codec Xvid does not play in hardware decode mode but if you long press on any file you can chose software decoding mode from the meniu and it plays very smooth
3. video in mp4 format (container) with resolution 480x270, codec avc1 (H264/MPEG4 AVC) play very smooth in hardware decoding mode with both moboplayer and system player.
You can find details about video files using a free software (Gspot). Just google for it. Btw is for PC this software.
Cheers
Hello,
So facts:
MPEG4 files are correctly handled by system video player.
I tried moboplayer with 340MB video file in avi container, xvid codec, 720x576.
System player will not start this file, and moboplayer playes it but in slowmotion (video and audio continuously more and more out of sync).
I did not know of this long press mode for software decoding and will try it later.
Thanks.

If still out of sync maybe is the limitations of our wildfire s cpu. I'll try to find some video close to your specs and try. I'll let you know
My personal favourite is Rockplayer, it plays all the files I've tried. Have you tried using a video recoder on your pc to scale down the frame rates and resolution?
This greatly reduces
a) the lag
b) the space require to store them
c) the drain on the battery whilst playing them
Yes, I'm using a video converter on PC (my favorite is splash pro ex) to reduce resolution and bit rate (not frame rate); our cpu can't handle resolution too high (720x*) and high data stream. But let's be serious... the display is too small to watch a movie; maybe the only situation when I consider watching a movie is traveling by train or plane. On the other hand, is gut to know we can play videos

[Q] 1080p MKV / MP4 freezing

Hi,
i have problems with 1080p MKV and MP4 playback.
When i playback a movie with 1080p and Hardware Decoding, I get terrible blocking and freezing (strainge colours, green Pixel and so on).
I tested with MX-Player (H/W+), VLC Player, Plex and XBMC. The result is always the same.
When i use the same file in ts oder m2ts - Format, then everything is ok.
So i tested to create the mkv and mp4 File with different Tools: mkvmerge, ffmpeg, makemkv, mp4box and so on..
Always Errors and terrible playback.
Is there a trick or can the device handle HD only in *.ts without Errors???

I'm able to play 1080p mkv files and mp4 files without issue. I actually download a lot of 1080p movie trailer in mp4 format to my tablet. However, I normally use Archos Video player or BS player though as the hardware acceleration appears to be better on them than other video players I've tried.
I use mx player and never have an issue, have you tried the software codec for mx?
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
Try archos and the achos free codec pack.
MX player
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using xda premium
so, i tested more:
Archos has the best Performance. you only see sometimes litte stuttering. But the PGS-Subtitles are not shown -((
BS-Player has Picture -Errors
MX-Player in S/W and H/W Looks ok, but not enough Performance for full framerate Decoding.H/W+ Decoder has enogh Performance, but the same Errors in the Picture like BS-Player, Plex, XBMC abd so on.
I don't understand why... the Problem ist not all movies... and this are not the movies withe the highets Bitrate. convert to ts looks good.
I put a short sample online.. mail me, if you are interessed to verify and help... I can not post the link here.. (new user board-rule)
I just streamed a 1080p mkv from my WD Live network drive with no stuttering or sound issues. I use Archos player and the free codec pack.

hey, stehohrhase, has this resolved with different player? I am tempted to buy p605, but I don't want to buy one that has issue with video playback.

i guess is not the player... TS is just the container... this device can handle 1080p
no issues
I use MK player with no issues even in FULL HD movies!
Maybe your files (muvies) are stored in ExtStorage (microSD).
Have you check your microSD card speed?
Try Dice Player its one of the best players out there, but for DTS audio you need "libffmpeg.so" from the attachment below.
Other than that try a test sample with video stream only and see if it plays fine, if it does then mux in the other streams one at a time until the problem returns.
10 bits encoding maybe?

Unable to play 4K Videos on my Mobile!!!!

LG G4
Tried playing 4K video on my G4 and it could not handle it... only sound kept coming... *.mkv format is what I tried.
INstalled MX Player with Customer DTS codec support.. tried all..nothing helped!!!!
Please provide some help and I downloaded videos from Youtube 4K Resolution ones...
So it sounds like you downloaded a video but you don't have the codecs.
Is this happening with all videos?
I would imagine that you are able to play them just fine on youtube?
I hate to break it to you, but you won't get quicker/better responses based on how much larger you make your text.
Yes 4k does not play and but 2k(1440p) plays fine in ma youtube... But once downloaded cannot play 1440p videos using any player.. tested mx, dice, bs and stock player too
I have found the issue in playing the 4k and 2K videos I downloaded from Youtube.
I downloaded MKV format which was the culprit... 2k and 4k mp4 formats work fine... mkv works only till 1080p.. may be a codec for mkv should be released for ARM V8

I tried 4K video on VLC with enabled Full HW acceleration and without single lag
test video here: http://demo-uhd3d.com/fiche.php?cat=uhd&id=149'
every video with 60+MB/s bandwith (ofc depends on storage speed, on my Samsung 32GB EVO+ even 70MB/s plays without problems) is laggy 10 bit HEVC is not playing H264 works without problems
YT 4K videos works also on VLC...
same problem
Only 4k video with h264 of codec
Maybe it's too late to reply but the fact that LG G4 only supports 4K video in h264 (mp4) format. You should convert the video with your PC (i recommends Handbrake) select 2160p profile and do some edits or you can convert with any software. Make sure the files converted to mp4. The only one reason if you downloaded a 4k youtube video and it can't directly played on G4 is just because youtube codec for 4k isn't h264 as like 1080p or lower but webm.

Playing Hi-res (4K, 10bit, HEVC) video on HTC 10

Hello!
According to Snapdragon 820 specifications, this SoC can play 4K video with 10 bit HEVC encoding. Just for interest, i upload sample video (www.demo-uhd3d.com) and use MX and VLC players. But both of them plays videos very slow, looks like slideshow.
So not clear, why our device can not play such files? There are lack of needed codecs (that must be instaled by device manufacturer), or I need specific player?
Thank you.
Did you try different codecs in mx player app while playing?

Yes, of course. HW, HW+ - no one working. May there is error in fiel coding, but not celar what exactly causes this problem. Some users says that some 4K files can be played.

Easily.. I mean mostly 4K files can be played..
Sent from quite brutal hTc 10 ..
Downloaded the Transformers_extinction_Trailer_4K UHD, 10bit, from your site you provided and it played without any issues using mx player pro with the 1. 8.6 audio codec to play AC3.
VLC and Power DVD couldn't play it.

cannot play downloaded youtube 4k videos smoothly with mx player and default player !

hello all... i m facing a strange lag in my htc m9. currently running Viper one m9 4.3.0. but i have tested with stock rom also , that, i cannot play 4k videos smoothly which i'have downloaded from youtube. i moved that video to my device memory, then opened it with mx player. that video is only playable with mx's SW mode but veryyyyy slowly. both the HW/HW+ mode says "not supported" what can i do to play those 4k videos smoothly in my device? please..T.I.A.
The M9 have an 1080p display, so 4k videos, even 2k videos won't look better than 1080p videos...
You can download the videos at full hd resolution from youtube, you will save space too.
The problem is mxplayer. Because it is downscaling the video from 4k to 1080p on the fly via software it can only convert so much in so little time and that causes it to pause while it converts.
You will find that youtube servers do the bitrate at their end so even if the video says 4k, if you play it via the YouTube app you'll only get the max resolution that your device can handle, in this case 1080p as that is all your device can do.
