Asus Zenfone 2 cant Turn On or Charge Problem [HOW TO FIX] - ZenFone 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello XDA community!
Here is a video tutorial for those who have problems like, powering on their device and it seems like a DEAD device!
I had the same problem, i bought the Asus Zenfone 2 and when i first tried to open it, it was like the device was dead(not working at all). So I'm here to share my experience with it and how I fixed it!
Done panic, try some of these steps and hopefully you will have your device working like a charm!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XRYlhS9i56o
Actually many people say that these steps worked for them so, why not to give it a try before you send your device back to ASUS :good:
I hope I helped some of you out there guys!
:good: CHEERS

lol i have this problem yesterday , i though the problem was on charger port then i take it to service center and now its done :v

I had this problem with 2 brand-new zenfone 2.
My solution was to let them both charge for 8 to 12 hours!
There was no orange led, no battery symbol or vibration on plugging in the charger. But after long hours of letting them both connected to the charger, they both started working on reconnecting the charger!
So, give it a try. It's just a couple of hours of waiting [emoji12]

same problem here! also let him charge for 8hr's, after that working like a charm

Same problem today. Only 1 hour charging and all works good.

Same problem here, but not solved. Yesterday evening my ZE551ML started to overheat, and i shutted it down. Then I tried to power it on, without results. I left charging all night, and this morning it powered on for 30 seconds, but wifi wasn't working, neither physical buttons and vibration too.
Now I'm not able to power it on, but it is fully charged.
What can I do? Thanks!

I'm helping out a friend with an ASUS Zenfone 2. She was playing a GameBoy Advance Emulator (MyBoy) and was playing while charging the phone. The next day, the phone didn't turn on.
Basically here's what's happening (or not happening):
1.) No led indication of charging
2.) If left with a charger on for a few hours, battery gets hot
3.) Sometimes when I push the power button it vibrates once but that's it. Recently, no vibration at all.
Other than these, no other observations.
I've looked around the Zenfone 2 forums, especialy on the Troubleshooting thread, and there are vague & uncomplete solutions that never worked for me.
1.) Charged the phone using the ASUS adapter and USB cable overnight (tried with a Samsung one and a Sony one overnight - that's 3 nights total. Didn't work for me.
2.) I would like to try to open the phone myself but I'm not so sure and I don't know exactly how to remove the battery to reset the phone.
Has this been solved yet???

Charging issue with Tab Pro 8.4 and newest update!

I just developed a charging issue where I have it plugged in and it hasn't advanced in %. It's stuck at around 65%. Official charger/usb cord and tried different outlets.
This never happened on the first firmware build, but only after the second update the last month.
Anyone else experience this?
I've encountered it both in stock and cm11. Run the batterybdown to 10 % and fully charge. Should report properly then.

I'm running the 8.4 original firmware without issue since I bought it several months ago. This week it charges up to a point then stops. Restarting does not help. Different chargers, etc. Arggh!!
This worked for me: (Press and hold: Volume Up + Home + Power (in that order)). Keep holding an unit will reboot. It's not abrasive like a factory reset (like I was considering doing).
Now for the first time in a week, i'm over 50% and its still charging like it should.
Someone else did all the hard lifting to find the solution. I just found the tread over on android central. http://forums.androidcentral.com/sa...y-wont-charge-without-reboot.html#post3723135
Cheers.
I haven't upgraded, but I did encounter the same problem earlier this week. It was stuck at 91% even though I left it charging all night. After restarting and plugging it into my laptop for a while, it seemed to work fine again. Now and then it'll just do strange things like this. xD
I'm having same problem, stucks at about 57% 69%. can't find a solution yet. In my case it is happening after software upgrade. does anyone have a solution that helps ? restarting does not seam to be a solution.

Pretty much a known issue on all software builds (maybe a hardware issue?). There is a long thread about this issue in this section. The only consistent solution seems to be to open up the tablet, and disconnect/reconnect the battery. A bit extreme for my taste, so I've just left it alone. Sometimes mine will get stuck at various percentages (for a few charge cycles), sometimes it will charge up to full. Reboots sometimes help, but not always.
II found this and it helped some; including myself... Hope it works for you...

Went from a machine that could discharge completely in a few hours doing general surfing and messing around. (Not gaming or video).Taking all night to charge to 70% and constant reboots to get to 100%.
Took the back off and disconnected the battery as per advice on this thread.
At 97% it now gave me nearly 6 hours video streaming down to 17%. Only took around two hours then to fully charge.
I was a little worried about doing it but it is well worth it.
Tip I found two thinnish guitar picks worked really well to ease the back off.
I never had this problem or as bad as some users but I have notices a few things to keep an eye out for
When you plug your tab into the charger do this
Go to settings - Battery and make sure it says Charging (AC) , on a few very rare occasions I found that sometimes plugging it in it wouldn't switch over to charging (it would still say discharging even though it was pulling current from the charger) and required a reboot I suspect this could mess up battery stats pretty bad, another way to tell is when you plug it in, shut the screen off for a second or two, then press the home button or power button and make sure it says Charging xx% on the unlock screen.
another way to charge is just power it off (power button for 5 seconds, select power off on the popop menu) plug it in and you will see a big battery charging animation, you can regularly check updates by pressing the home key or power key...
Oh and toggle off WIFI (found out wifi can pull an additional 100mA when tablet is in standby), bluetooth(not necessary unless you were using it), and GPS before charging.

[Q] Need help, Zenwatch refuse to boot nor charge

Hi,
Last week, I updated my Zen watch via the normal way (Access watch application and check for update).
I did a "forget watch" on my phone before I proceed to reset which I believe is a common practice for android devices.
I was using it normally for 2 days but did not charge as weekend, I don't use and left if on without switching it off thus the device shut down when low battery.
Now the problem starts, I cannot power on the device and when I tried to charge the watch, the watch only vibrates only and does nothing.
Can anyone help me?
Thank you!
I Emailed Asus Support but because this watch is imported and there is no local support, I am being throw around and I am pretty lost.
How long have you tried to charge it for?
Hi Willber,
Sorry, right after I posted this it works again.
Apparently, the battery was seriously drained and honest like all the problems faced, I think this 5.1.1 is not well optimized at the moment and now I can understand why Moto 360 delayed the release.
The usual charger (direct with cable)I use does not seems to able to provide sufficient power to it and this goes the same for my USB cable + (I am using a multi ports 2.1Amp charging port).
I changed to thicker cable and it seems able to pick up the power. Not sure why this happened because before I upgrade, I had no problems using the mentioned charger and cable + charger before.
While this is weird, I am happy that the watch is back online for me.
Will monitor a few days and make sure I don't totally drain the battery by mistake again.
Thank You!

Not Charging - Phone is Dead

I have a Zenfone 2 551, 2GB/16GB. Bought it 45 days ago. I bought an Asus Fast Charger later on. The first time I wanted to use the new fast charger the phone turned off.
I change to a regular charger and the led turned on (I had 40% battery at the time). Left the phone charging (standard original Asus Charger) and the battery instead of charging is loosing charge. Even with the led turned on.
Eventually the battery died. I tried other chargers. 1 out 10, maybe a got the led back on, but the battery stayed on 0% and wasn't enough to even turn on the phone
I've read several people having this same issue.

In one of the post someone wrote this tip
Thanks for the reply. But after a long day of stressing, it worked by itself. I read from an article about another android with quick charging that the USB could have not been all the way in in the adapter which, in my opinion, it was but regardless I repeatedly unplug and plug(15 mins -30 mins interval)... did the same with the phone plug and unplug till I saw the battery level going up
It didn't worked for me!
I've already tried:
a. Changing chargers and cables
b. Pressing power for 20 seconds
c. Pressing volume up + power
d. Plugging and unplugging the phone every 15 minutes
I bought the phone while visiting the US (I don't live there).
Has anyone else had this kind of problem, and was able to fix it?
Thanks
Can you confirm if the ASUS adapters/USB cables work with other USB devices? Have you tried charging from a PC? If so, unfortunately this issue sounds like a hardware related issue and will require sending on for warranty service. Please feel free to contact me direct at [email protected] if you have any questions or concerns.

The guy uses a metal tip pin to release the battery connector? seems that is risky and may short something out. These asus phones have so many issues, that's for sure.

Zenfone Dead?

Earlier, I was attempting to transfer some files from my laptop via USB, but as soon as I plugged in the USB cord, my zenfone (ZE551 variant) just died, despite being at 70% charged. However, I can't seem to get it to turn on, nor does it charge. I don't get the blinking orange led light when the battery is drained. Any advice on what I could do
to try turn it on before I contact Asus?
P.S. My phone is not rooted & bootloader locked.

This is really worrying now, I've seen a few threads now of people describing similar circumstances were the phone dies,,,
Might sell my zenfone2 while it still working and I can get money for it
had the same happen to me, no charging and phone wouldn't turn on. you need to disconnect and reconnect the battery. all you need is a Phillips screwdriver. be careful since the plastic cover is glued with double sides tape

Is there a longer thread around here or even on the Asus forum on this subject? If so, I haven't been able to find it.
There's much commentary on it here, but I sure would like to know what the root cause is. Obviously, it must be rare or it would have been fixed already.

My sister bought a Zenfone 2 Laser for almost a month now, she was just using it regularly then suddenly the system won't boot but can still enter recovery mode, from there I manage to fix it via adb sideload.
Please try long pressing power button for at least one minute without charger connected. Then connect charger, check if power LED indicator is on and let charge. Then try powering up by long pressing and holding power button. Sometimes re-seating the battery can help resolve this type of issue however for this model the battery is non-removable and will void the warranty if warranty seal is broken. If you have tried other cables and/or chargers and unable to power on it may require warranty service. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me direct at [email protected]

Mine just did this too, same deal, fully charged, plugged into laptop and boom. Dead as a brick. Pretty pissed. Waste of $300. Will never ever purchase an asus phone again.
@Asus_USA, what issue are you responding to? The general thread or SenpaiCham's, which seems to be a different one than this thread is about (see the Reddit link for more commentary)?
Why is this an issue six months in?

Z5 Premium won't turn on

Z5 Premium not turning on
hello everyone,
PLEASE HELP ME!
My z5 premium was working fine.. battery was charged too, and suddenly it turned off, and it didn't turn on back again. I've tried all the different ways and solutions that should turn it back on:
hard reset didn't work
2 minutes hard reset didn't work
hard reset button didn't work
plugged it in using it's OEM charger and usb cable didn't work either and LED didn't lit up
plugged it in to the computer nothing happened, wasn't detected with no sign of life
I had to take off it's battery cover (using professional tools) unplugged the battery, connected the phone to the charger while the battery is unplugged, and nothing happened reconnected the battery back, and plugged the phone again to it's wall charger, and no sign of life.
i left it there all night long since the afternoon. and when i came back in the next morning to check if the phone is charging and the LED is lit up, but again NO SIGN OF LIFE!
(BTW, the phone is in mint condition and it was never been disassembled or repaired)
Please if anyone have an idea what this could be?
if anyone has encountered the same problem and went through the same of what I've been, and was able to repair it or find a solution PLEASE LET ME KNOW!
Now, I'm thinking of 2 things: either the battery is completely dead(damaged) or it's the mainboard which I don't hope to be.
PLEASE LET ME KNOW YOUR THOUGHTS ABOUT THIS!
Now, forget about any sort of software repair, as I explained above, the phone didn't succeed in that.
So, any help or suggestion would be so much appreciated.
Thank you all for taking time in reading and participating in this topic.
Have a good day.
Hi, I have the same issue and I am unable to solve it, I changed also battery to a new one like you did, the phone was turned on suddenly it starts to overheating and turns off and I'm unable to turn it on anymore

Not happy reading this thread. Why so many issues with Sony Android... Anyway;;
- I recently had the same issue - or an issue in the same ball park. Phone Just died and refused to charge, but would show a red LED and try to boot when plugged in.
- Sent it to Sony, Hoping it is only a dead battery
The OP sounds like a they have a USB port issue or a board issue, also OP phone will no longer waterproof after removal of cover.
Unclear as to whether you have tried the following;
- Turn on whist holding camera button instead of Volume up/down. it is worth a try
- Try to grab an official sony charging cable- basically impossible to buy nowadays, maybe a PS4 controller cable? try it
My stock unrooted Z5p died like this in April. Have the same issue as the OP and tried all the same solutions. My Z5p had only been used indoors for months with WiFi before sudden death. Replacing the charging port did nothing. Using the OEM cable and charger with a new battery gets a 2 sec red light when connected to power and starts booting up until the swirls (gets past Sony Xperia and powered by android screens). Then the screen goes dark and shows the big battery for a couple of seconds.
I didn't realize there was a sudden death problem with Sony phones until I started trying to fix this. What's even crazier is that I had (have) the Xperia Z, Z Ultra, and the Z2. The Z2 was used in the rain constantly and even survived an ejection from a handlebar mount at 15mph onto asphalt. (All these phones were rooted and using custom ROMs/kernels.) Seems like Sony has a serious QC issue they're not taking about.
