Software Update with a different Sim Card? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+

Hello everyone,
I bought an AT&T 64 GB S6 edge plus and got it unlocked while in Canada by contacting them. The problem is, I have not gotten a single update from them since I got the phone. Whenever I check for an update, it says that the software is up to date which is not true because when you go their website, they had 3 updates since september, one of them being for the Gear VR, and I got none of those. Is there a way to get my phone updated without going to US?
Thanks

Not sure if its setup like this in Canada, but go to the Samsung dept. in Bestbuy that's where I get my unlocked Samsung phones updated. Takes about 5-10 mins because they already have the software downloaded on their Samsung PC, and it's FREE!!!

Return unlocked Verizon Pixel XL to BB and wait for Google to get in stock or keep?

Bought a Pixel XL from Bestbuy. I unlocked the bootloader and disabled updates. Having second thoughts about keeping over the Google Store version. Since it's unlocked would you just keep it or flash stock, relock, and return and wait out google on my Note 3? I like flashing custom roms but don't want to have issues down the road with a bad flash and trying to fix a bootloop.
I do have a small scuff on the corner so I'm not sure if Bestbuy would even take it back.
Well, I bought mine from google store in hope for it to stay untouched from the corporate greedy hands of vzw, but unfortunately the first update I installed was vzw-exclusive update pushed to my google bought XL
On the other hand, fortunately, I already unlocked it before taking in the update, so for now I am safe. After doing a little research, it turns out that I am not the only one bought from google/fi and received vzw's 63X update.
So, pixel phones (whether bought from google/fi/bb/vzw) on vzw network is like your first used car(vzw exclusive update), you don't want it, but daddy's (vzw) gonna give it to you anyway! Therefore, personally I don't think it would be beneficial to return bb and buy from google since you gonna get the same updates anyway.

If you put in Vzw sim you will get a Vzw version of the update. It's nothing sinister apparently. Just fine tunes your device to work more efficiently with the VZW network. Mostly the radios. Also you may get several VZW applications that you are free to remove or use. So chillax and enjoy. If you put in AT&T sim you will get the GSM version of the updates instead.

Returning Pixel. Will a replacement have 7.1.1?

So I I think I want to exchange my pixel. I purchased from best buy.but according to the site they don't have any in stock at any of my local stores. The shipping info says new orders will be received December 15th. I'm guessing If they have to order me.a replacement it would come at the same time
Am I right to think I should be good and it should still only be on 7.1 and not have the latest update ?
If I lock my bootloader and return and can't unlock again I'd return it for good.
Most likely it won't be updated that fast. They don't open all the phones just to update the firmware. My suggestion is before you put in your sim card and connect to wifi, unlock the bootloader first in the replacement phone

That won't make a difference. The ones from best buy already come loaded with Verizon CID. Whether he boots or not won't matter. He will need the exploit regardless. It will most likely come with 7.1. I just ordered a new one a week ago that came with the October build on it.
no..i got a replacement sailfish..it came w L..

AT&T version Unlocked-No Updates

As the headline states, I bought a Fold on launch day here in the U.S. My only option was the AT&T version as best buy was allocated only 6 units for the entire state on launch date and they were all AT&T models. Well, I am a T-Mobile user so I got the phone unlocked by a third party. Cost me $55 and had to hook it up to my PC but the phone was unlocked in less than three minutes. Phone is awesome in every aspect and although I still have bloatware and the AT&T logo on startup, the phone is amazing.
Problem: I see articles and postings about updates to the phone. Security patches, firmware updates that happened in October and now November yet my phone get none of them. Did some research and read a lot of back and forth over whether it was Samsung or AT&T or T-Mobile as to who would provide updates. Well, T-mobile doesn't carry the phone, AT&T will not update an unlocked phone of theirs and Samsung smart switch also does not work with AT&T branded, unlocked phones.
So here I sit with August 2019 security software and old firmware. with no way to get these updates. It's been ages since I rooted (or Jailbroke) a phone but it seems like this might be my only option unless you guys can suggest a way for me to get these updates. I would prefer to find a simple easy way to get this done over rooting but I don't even know if there is such a thing.
Any help or insight appreciated, thanks in advance for your time and efforts.

Change the s/w from AT&T ("U") to unlocked ("U1"). There's a thread in this forum with the files you need to download and instructions elsewhere on XDA. I changed my AT&T-branded Fold from U to U1 the day I set it up and have received two updates directly from Samsung. I'm currently on SK1 with the November security update. Leaving the phone running AT&T s/w prevents you from running call and messaging continuity and Hiya for caller ID and spam protection which are both pretty cool.

Thanks very much for the insight. I gave it a try and obviously didn't do something right but at least I know the solution. Now I just have to put all the pieces together. Thanks very much!

Thanks neighbor I manually updated to the latest. Hopefully I will get the next updates normally.
I successfully flashed U1 ASHA......no updates as of yet. Says I'm up to date but security patch is still August. Fingers crossed I catch the next one.
Do guys know if I do the flash to U1 unlocked. Does VZW wifi calling/texting work?

Ok, I read every page of this very long thread and am more confused than when I looked at the initial page. It has been several years since I have used odin to flash a phone. Would someone be kind enough to put a link to the latest U1 firmware and Odin download so I can get off to the right start?
I have AT&T Fold unlocked on the original firmware as I never received any OTA updates. Can I go straight to the latest one or do I need to do it in steps?
Much appreciated!
Edit: Just realized this was not posted on the long thread I was referring to, but still valid questions. There was another thread that was 14 pages long which I have been posting on as well.
I am having trouble getting the flash to work. Any assistance would be appreciated.

No AT&T OTA Since May on S20 Ultra

I haven't received any OTA since I got the phone in May. My son's phone is stuck on July. I called AT&T and they said they sent an update to my phone, but it keeps saying it is up to date. AT&T pushed the update 2 days ago. I've tried Smart Switch on Windows and it says it is up to date. I've set the date forward 1, 2, 3 days and it still says up to date. It won't even check. It just comes back and says up to date. Any tips?

The issue is you cannot get AT&T firmware to flash. One of the AT&T features I need (only one actually) is Wi-Fi calling because I don't have great service inside the house. Outside the house isn't an issue.

Exactly it needs wifi. You can manually force it to look for updates in settings too when you have wifi.
AT&T also has special "update cell towers" can't recall what they call them. They're few but they are there.
All that said updates are overrated and can cripple your phone especially AT&T's junk.
You been warned.
I've run dinosaur Android's for years and never did a forced reload due to virus or trojan.
I'm still on Pie on my 10+ and it likey will never be updated as it runs well and looks great.
Q's scoped storage really sucks...

Well ATT suck un updates I have s20 ultra on ATT and I receive sep 1 update and I cheeked everyday for the updates and I gut it like 3 to 4 days ago. If you use smart switch it will always say is up to date the best thing y can say is just wait a bit more maybe in your area is a bit delayed in updates and also use the ATT sim card that was included in the box when you gut the phone that's my best advice since is hard to find the ATT Firmware's online
I used this post to flash with AT&T and I am now getting all the updates.

I have been out of the game for a while but I was hoping one of y'all could help

My son had a T-Mobile branded S20 5G and I moved our service to Verizon. I paid his phone off and got it unlocked. Everything was working fine up until a couple of weeks ago. He did an update (didnt pay attention to what kind of update) and now he cant make or recieved calls or text (keepin mind the phone was working fine before this update). Attempts to call result in a message from Verizon saying that they cant authenticate his phone.
I *****ed at Samsung for a bit since his phone isnt rooted and even though its over a year old if a software update bricked it, I felt like they should have some ownership of the issue. It was a waste of time so now I'm back on the phone waiting for VZW tech support.
I think the issue is that its a TMO branded phone on VZW's network and everyone is pointing the finger at everyone else. My question is 2 fold.
1) has anyone ever experienced this before, and if so what did you do to resolve it and
2) I will attempt to root it and flash a ROm on it before I entertain buuying another phone.....hes got enough other **** hes dealign with financially he doesnt need to add a new phone purchase to his plate.
Any help would be much appreciated because I'm pissed the eff off at this point.
Yes we tried different APN settings...he walked into a VWZ store and they were able to get his data working but not voice or text....seems like something is out of whack with his radios). We also did a full factory reset.....same issue persists
I am not an expert on ROMs but I will give you my two cents. When I was playing with my unlocked phone, I realized that mine updated some CSC binaries as soon as I inserted the SIM. I saw some message for it updating the CSC code from XAA to TMB when I inserted TMO SIM on stock firmware. So my suggestion would be to try downloading VZW stock firmware from samfw.com and installing that.
