Duplicate XDA Website(With Possible Malacious Intentions) - About xda-developers.com

There is this website I found that caches and steals the whole XDA website.
It goes by the handler: " forum.freelatestmovies.org "
If you try going to the website directly through the adress above, I wont work and will fail.
HOWEVER if you google search the website name, you can see all of the duplicate threads/pages of the XDA Forums.
Some download links lead to maliciously crafted ones. Lots of images/links are broken or missing, but some do work.

I stumbled upon this site yesterday but I recently found lots of pages that are now cloned. I almost inputted my account login details to this site.
Be very careful with this site and I advise the proper XDA Administration to take care of it.
Enjoy the Christmas Week!

its give my a idea
Well that is a good advice, but rigth now im having problems with attachments files, so cloning the web may be a good idea to get all attachment files hahahahaha!

Thanks for letting us know! :good:
@bitpushr

We were notified about this a few days ago. I have moved to block what I can on the backend, they had about 20 IPs working as a proxy. Usually Google will make quick work of these sites in not too long.

WHO messed around with the FTP contents . . . .

...should at least fix what (s)he has broken.
Don't take it wrong: the FTP needed structure. But it also needs content.
Triggered by some posts from members that indicate they could not find files on FTP is just noticed al lot has gone!
This creates quite an issue for the forum: al lot (if not all!!) posts with ftp links in them do not work anymore. Leaving people who need a certain file desperately. This is not the way it should be done.
To the one that changed the FTP: PLEASE restore it or at least fix all the links in the forums to FTP
BE A SPORT, FIX WHAT YOU HAVE BROKEN
(plz dont mention one should have used the file upload facility on the forum, because that one has not been functioning for large files for some time)
Hum that sure adds value...
Well the ftp site has been trashed a few times.
The thread on that subject is
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=100072#100072
and was Found on wiki
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BA_FTP_Site
Our Ftp site
Has a general upload area that has write for the upload user and thus also delete.
Has a restricted area (the rest of the site) that only has read for the xda user.
- The Idea is to move the files from the General Upload area to the safe restricted area.
- This is done by a few of us (Moderators and ftp admins).
A list of which can be found on wiki.
- If the file is not on the restricted site then its been deleted and who ever did it is not going to tell us.
- If its on the restricted site and a link is broken its due to the fact that some moderator has taken the time to move it to that safe place.
Reason why I moderator might not fix a broken link.
1) He does not own that device
2) He is not intrested in that device as he does not own one
3) He does not read all the threads of the device as he is not intrested in it as he does not own it. (think I will stop here).
The mods are users just like you the reader of this, they are not paid for it and do not work for xda-developers.com.
They do it for they are intrested in the subject mater.
They do it to add value to the site
And for that they are given.
A ftp passoword and thus they can move files
Modorators account rights : The can move a thread to the correct area, delete posts or threads and remove links to cracks.
All of this work they do for free and in thier own time.
If the modortator would not move files from the upload aread then they would get deleted and we would have broken links and also no files.
Now if I had a Wizard then I would
BE A SPORT
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=264736#264736
Same is also true for a few other devices.
sorry if I offended you. Not my intention!
I was just frustrated that the ftp got trashed again. Its just that i have uploaded stuff more than once and it all just seemed to stay in the upload area (where it can be deleted ofcourse). This is ofcourse due to the fact (i know now!) that there apears no admin for at least the Wizard files
I am more than happy to become an admin for the Wizard related stuff. just missed your earlier post on that. And i do qualify.
plz pm me if youre still looking
What a sport
Sorry if I sounded offended I was truly not (I was just pissed off Hehe)
Wellcome to the ftp admins and Thanks for your help.
Check your pm.
Hey MDAIIIUser. I would love to "Be a sport" and help fix this entire site. I would even be willing to dedicate my time to take care of things that didn't personally interested me! Or even organize files for 'gasp' a device that i don't own!
Now would you be interested in a full time ftp mod for a while that will go through and fix everything? I'm up for the job and i have the time. (not to mention i'm tossing around the idea of reserving this domain name when it expires this year, or maybe mirroring the site)
I honestly think i would be a valueable assest to your cause.
thanks.
Jonathan
P.s. I can be just as condescending as you.

xda-developers FTP

I noticed that the site, as well as having forums and a wiki, has its own FTP server that's open to users. Just in case people didn't know, it might be a good way to get useful, free software to users without using rapidshare and services like that.
If there's a historical reason why people don't use it, I wouldn't mind knowing that too.

you talk about it now act apon it give us the FTP IP address.
It's in the wiki. There's not much in the Excalibur directory right now. That's why I asked.
Edit: Did some homework on the FTP site. It seems someone totaled it back in '06 and it hasn't been the same since. The Kaiser guys use it more than anyone else, but the way it's set up, uploaders send files to an upload section and a moderator moves the approved files into the available-for-download section. From this perspective, I guess things like rapidshare and mediafire would be better options for people getting software out. It's just not always so obvious which characters have the damned cat on them.
Great stuff so far on there, you guys rock!

On the other hand you can pm myself, lukybandit or mikey1022 the rapidshare link and one of us will "take one for the team" and deal with the kitty cats for the purpose of putting it on the ftp.... or course only as long as the upload is necessary
I was just thinking it would save hunting through threads or asking "can you give me a link to that file?" or "that link's expired" or "rapidshare says my max has been reached for free users" etc. etc.
In this way, just like most of the pertinent information is"check the wiki," finding the right file in a hurry would be "check out the ftp site!"
But yeah, it's a little more work for all parties involved just to have everything in one, easy-to-find place.
EDIT: The link for the download section is ftp://xda:[email protected]/smartphones/Excalibur
The login/password given for the upload section (xdaupload:xda) doesn't seem to be working.
I was thinking along the lines of supporting the FTP site awhile back when I discovered the Wiki. Seems like it would be a more logical way to store Excaliber files. I had major problems trying to upload and finally gave up. Maybe your thread will get the FTP going.

[IMPORTANT] All XDA Mods, Read - Ad Hijack

I couldn't get a chance to see which ad it was as they are dynamic, but an ad for AVScan hijacked my browsing when on XDA.
To me, this is a big deal and if it happened on my website, I'd be charging after someone - an on a decent website, I would personally be looking for compensation from the advertising provider or the advertising client who hijacked my site.
Sorry for posting here, I want this to be heard and not sure where to post!
I had the same problem. I was browsing XDA like normal yesterday and I got redirected to some page. I wish I saved the URL. Chrome gave me the malicious site warning thankfully.
Thank you for reporting this, Im notifying the proper people.
We're looking into this.
We take this very very seriously. Unfortunately, it's also very very difficult to pinpoint the cause of it. We pretty much only use two or three different ad networks (the largest, by far, of which is AdSense). I've yelled at several people about this, and I'm hoping it's taken care of. If it keeps happening, try to send me a screenshot of the ad that you think is causing the issue (or just PM me the domain it's linking to).
We are extremely sorry for the inconvenience. We do everythign we can to avoid these issues of course!

[Q] [supernova rom] anyone register for this recently?

Sorry to post this here instead of on the road own thread but I'm too new to xda to post directly to it.
Anyway, I have was looking to download supernova rom, but I can't find where we're supposed to register to get the download link. The only register link I can find is the wordpress one, but that is clearly not the one needed as it bounces me out to another control panel that basically raspberries at my new account.
I don't understand why the dev wants the walled garden anyway.... Isn't the idea of a rom to have people use it???
Extremely frustrated Desire user, confused.brit
sent via a Web browser on my HTC desire stuck on miui cos that's what the previous owner liked

This what Droidzone says in his thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22812444&postcount=3951
Thanks, that reply wasn't there when I looked.
There was a server upgradation work on the site which led to a DNS discrepancy, hence the site was offline.
About why Supernova has a full fledged site, I'll clarify my position once again. I've spent a lot of time over the past two years on my Roms, and I've been convinced that a forum system isnt the most apt one for a development activity-it needs a full fledged site with Bug trackers, Git hosting, FAQ pages, Download link and Mirror Management, Comment trackers, and possibility of expansion. I've found that Wordpress suits the purpose very well. XDA too is considering this approach. So everything related to my Roms is on my dedicated site. There is also the significant advantage of easily updating my links or description, and clone them when they're similiar.
Why do I make registration mandatory?
1. I'd like to monitor the stats of unique users who use my Roms, and their repeat hits. Hence I get regular feedback. If I see the curve fall steeply, I can then move on to other work.
2. It keeps web crawlers who leech download links to other sites away.
Anything I publish is free. The mandatory registration is free and can be finished in 15 seconds.

chrome extension APK Downloader?

I saw this posted the other day and bookmarked the page with link. been busy with work the last 2 days and didn't have time to get on my pc until now. However, it seems that due to a bunch of stupid posts about pirating paid apps, the dev has pulled all links! I could be wrong but i've looked everywhere i could think and it always goes back to his updated page saying he has to stop this! I don't want this to steal from anyone, just like "most" of the people on this site! I think this would be extremely useful! If anyone who was able to download it could package and post it or even just email it to me(if you don't want everyone to have) I would be very thankful!!!!! Thx for ur time and any help u can give!
I also need this.. Hope someone had a copy of the extention. TIA

Even though it's not really Epic app related...
I found this link a few minutes ago when looking for the extension:
Code:
apps.evozi.com/apk-downloader/
I can't create a real url yet, don't have enough posts. But just copy/paste it.
