Frequently Answered Questions
FAQ
Q: How do I unlock the bootloader?
A: First you must enable developer options by tapping on the build number 7 times. Then go to: Developer Options > Enable OEM Unlocking > Toggle the switch to enable > accept the prompts.
Q: My phone isn't shown in the connection monitor in the bootloader!
A: Make sure you have installed the Google USB Drivers. You can do that via the File menu. It will download and install the drivers automatically.
Q: How can I upgrade to the latest firmware update on my rooted 6P without losing my data, root, Xposed or other mods?
A: You can do that by using the Flash Factory Image button with the option Keep Recovery checked. After the flashing process has finished. Boot into the recovery (which should still be TWRP) and flash SuperSU and any other mods you have installed. Note that Xposed modules' settings will need to be reconfigured after.
Q: I'm stuck in a bootloop after flashing a factory image with erase userdata checked!
A: That's fine! I don't know why erasing the userdata would lead into a bootloop, but all you need to do is boot into stock recovery. Hold the power button and press volume up once. Then let go and you should be able to see the recovery menu. After, just go through a factory reset/wipe.

Hello, I still have a snapshot of your message.
he corruption messages are there even if your phone is 100% stock. It happens when you unlock the bootloader. The MTP issue may be Marshmallow's now thing where you have to change it from Charge Only to File Transfers.
Not sure if this is what you wanted but I hope it helps in some way.

Relocking the bootloader should make the message go away. But please make sure EVERYTHING is 192% stock or you'll brick your phone.
Do you mean the option above file transfer is the one that works?

You can use your saved backup if its in the form of a TWRP backup I guess. If you don't have a custom recovery you should have seen what you saw. An android with an exclamation mark.

Ah OK. The 3rd option is the one that should work on all Windows OSes out of the box apart from XP I think.
I would assume you have used the latest drivers installed from Google, although that might not have anything to do with MTP.

I'm not sure what the deal is, when I first got this darn thing which was 2 days ago. First thing I done was plugged into my pc to install drivers and it didn't work out to good. And the next day the back of the device started comming unglued and the volume rockers are very loose. This is a refurbished from asurion. I will have my other nexus 6 this comming Monday. So more than likely I'm just gonna sell it because I really don't like all this aggregation. Probably go back to note 3

I will! I was gonna use Motorola but they wanted $175 + I was gonna have to ship them my device first the after they received my busted device it would be at least 4 days before they would ship my new one out, so all in all it would take about 3 1/2 weeks they said before I would get my new phone. With asurion I pay $145 ’they used to charge just $100 for the deductable' guess they wasn't getting enough money, oh well. Anyway I send them the cash and I had my new device the next day.

Woahhh New Update! Version 1.2!
Hello everyone! I've been hard at work to making this a much better experience!
Version 1.2 brings a whole new design with added functionality, which you can glance over on the first post. Here is a screenshot of the UI now!
You should be able to update through the inbuilt 'Check for updates'. I'd be glad if someone can test it out for me. And it's also available here on the XDA downloads tab!
Thanks!

DOUBLE THAT :highfive:
---------- Post added at 01:05 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:49 AM ----------
Hi! Just thought of giving you some suggestions on getting your GNex to Android's latest and greatest
As markjankovic mentioned, you can try the settings > about phone > update. If that doesnt get you where you want to go, you can try the following!
Go root your phone
I highly recommend this because you rGNex gets 10++ times cooler when you do! Tons of custom (and stable) ROMs and Kernels available here for you to try out! What's even better is that they are almost always running the latest flavour of Android! :highfive: My favourites are Cyanogenmod (now that 10.1.2 stable is out), ParanoidAndroid, and rasbeanjelly go give'em a try!
Tutorials on how to root can be found all over the internet! Start with these threads and go Google some more if you are thirsty for more
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1828061
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1392310
fastboot
If you are comfortable with it, you can go read up on tutorials to unlock your bootloader and flash Google's Factory 4.2.2 (or any of your desired version available there) via fastboot
Go Google this method if it interests you its rewarding once you've got a hang of it, I'll tell you that
This one is a little more advance but it ensures your phone is in mint, out of the box condition and freshness - software wise at least
Hope this helped! Cheers :silly:

[Q] Update 4.3 toroplus

I recently found out that my rooted stock sprint gnex running 4.2.1 needed to be unrooted in order to receive the recent update to 4.3 . I wish to unroot, receive the update and then reroot. My question is if I unroot and reroot will I lose any personal data, or is that "problem" only associated with unlocking the device? Thanks!
Why not just flash the 4.3 stock rooted ROM posted in the Sprint GNex thread

yea it would make more sense to do this.
google galaxy nexus 4.3 roms and look for the factory image title... then scroll down to the gnex that is yours (maguro, toro, or toroplus based on your carrier) and download and flash
---------- Post added at 09:47 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:43 PM ----------
you could also google galaxy root toolkit
a real easy tool to use to root/unroot/backup/install custom recovery
and as I look for the factory images, it doesnt appear that there is a factory image for toro+ atm... so i dont even know if unrooting will get you the update.

Lollipop on dev edition?

How can we get the official lp on the dev edition phone? Actually i just check for software update on the phone and it says one is available. Can I take it or will it lock my phone up?
It will lock it, a rom will be made probably in a day or so. Just hang tight.

If you have a dev phone, then taking an OTA won't ever be a justifiable risk. You should only ever manually install new firmware(e.g. via odin), and then only after a reputable source has verified that the firmware is safe.

I'm running my ROM (Rick's ROM) and just pulled SDM.apk and pushed it to system/app and the software updater worked to download the 1st update. I deleted aboot from the file and tried flashing it but it wouldn't flash in TWRP or the Stock recovery. I'll post a link after I get it uploaded if anyone wants to play around with it. Whatever you do make sure aboot isn't in the file if you decide to try and flash it.

Great! It'll be two step patches:
NJ5 to NK5
NK5 to OAF
So, you need to be on STOCK NJ5 (keeping your custom recovery).

It's kinda hard to wait seeing all of the people posting about their new Lollipop update. But I really think every N4DE owner needs to wait for the Odin tar upgrade. I wouldn't touch something from the retail upgrades. It's going to have to be specifically for my DE phone. I don't care if I'm the last person on Earth to get Lollipop.
One question. Will the Odin tar come from Samsung or will some developer compile it from source?

Sorry about that but here it is if you want to play around with it. @hsbadr and I are working on it but ran into a problem with the modem not flashing resulting in a update fail. Good progress has been maid but more work needs to be done. With that said have at it if you want.

Samsung Tab 3 10.1 GT-P5220 build KOT49H.P5220XXUBOA2 - what to use to root?

Hello,
Ive spent the day just googling away about rooting this pda.
Ive found a lot of stuff but im afraid ill brick it if i choose the wrong option.
I got the build: KOT49H.P5220XXUBOA2
I was thinkig about following this guide with odin and CF-AUTO-ROOT but the build number they refer to is : KOT49H.P5220XXUBNH2 (as you see it has "NH2" in the end and mine got "OA2"
.....
Can someone please give me a helping hand?
Thanks in advance!
The best/safest way to root is to flash TWRP and then install SuperSU.zip file with TWRP.
I believe, a build as old as this, kingroot or kingoroot will root it.

Doesn't TWRP require a SDCARD ?
I do not have a separate sdcard at the moment, need to buy one.
Or am i confusing it wih something else?

TWRP doesn't require an external card. You will most likely be flashing it with Odin, so you will only need the file on your cpu. Also, if you get ahold of TWRP 3.0 or newer, it will give you the option to root the device.

Yes, but I'll do some checking... there's probably an unofficial version for the device made by someone here on xda.

There definitely is a custom recovery of some type for it, it appears that they have lineage 14 for it. Check here https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3340938 and then check out the Samsung Tab 3 10.1 android development section for ROMs.

Do I have to flash a new ROM ?
Cant I just install TWRP and root the device with the newest SuperSU ?
My end goal is to install Kali Nethunter on the thing but that is in the future now I just need to root it to use some apps that require a rooted device......

You don't have to install a ROM. You can do that down the line if you get bored with the one you're on currently.
