Default file location for apps or apk on firestick? - Fire TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I would like to use rom collection browser with an emulator installed on my firestick using ABDfire but can't find where the emulator is stored on my fire stick in my file manager? Where do apps get stored using ABDfire? Is there a default location?

Erm I think most stuff gets stored in Android/data (most emulators data just sits in the main part of your storage anyway at Sd card0/ ) & to be honest I do not believe that you can use an emulator with a fire stick, 1. you have no usb, 2. That means no controller & 3. & you cant use an emulator with a amazon remote (well saying that I did test M.A.M.E with one & configured the remote with it turned on it's side & played Streetfighter 2 but that was on the AFTV2 main unit & not the stick version), if you want emulators get the AFTV2 it's on sale at the moment for £65!
Hope this helps If sof press that thanks button

I have the emulator working on the firestick and I'm using an 8bitdo Bluetooth controller that also works however , I would like to access the emulator using rom collection browser in kodi but was having trouble finding the file location. I've looked in the file manager and also es explorer but it doesn't show the apps in the folder you suggested?

dropbox.com/s/m9sgrqj35dcrvxd/Playstation%20Vue_2.4.0.apk?dl=0
Most recent AFTV APK just updated a few days ago would love to see someone get this working on a NP or Shied or any Android TV

Hi all,
Similar issue, different app. I can't find the data location for apps installed through the app store on the fire stick. Netflix, emby, etc don't show up in the normal location.
I'm special looking for the location that the Smart IPTV app saves it's playlist info. Any help appreciated!!

[Q] Ouya File Server

Can anyone point me to any kind of file server for the Ouya? CIFS would be ideal but I can handle NFS or FTP too.
I've done my research here and in other forums and am not seeing any clear answer. What I want to do is to be able to remotely copy and delete files to and from the USB key attached to my Ouya.
Why not use ssh for that ?

Okay. I see guides for rooting and installing Busybox. I'm not hugely familiar with Busybox. Does Busybox provide an SSH *server* so I can ssh into the Ouya? I *am* familiar with ssh file transfers on my other servers.
I've seen other requests for an SSH server on the Ouya but no clear answers.
Once you root ouya install something like this:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=web.oss.sshsftpDaemon
Set it up and leave it running. You will be able to use any ssh client (like putty) to log into ouya and exec any command you need including copying or moving files.

Okay, I thought about that. Early on with my first Android phone I installed a similar app so I could log into my phone from my workstation and play with it. But I'd need to somehow get the APK from Google Play and then sideload it. How do you extract an APK from the store?
Edit:
Actually, searching not too hard turns up things like:
https://code.google.com/p/droidsshd/
And other sshd APK files. But they all do need access to a shell.
Found a solution.
After reading an Ouya review today, the reviewer was all gaga about using AirDroid to manage your Ouya. I had played with this class of "web desktop" apps years ago with my first Android phone. You run the app and then connect to your Android device with your browser. The app gives you a desktop that lets you manipulate your device.
Unfortunately AirDroid is a paid app and costs $1.99 a month. The free version is limited to 100MB of transfers per month which just isn't enough if you're transferring game images for your Ouya emulators.
So instead I found 3CX DroidDesktop which does what I need to do. Here it is on Google Play:
DroidDesktop on Google Play
But of course we can't use Google Play on our Ouya so here is where you can download an APK:
DroidDesktop at android-appstore
Now I thought there used to be a sideloading menu on the Ouya. I guess the last update did away with it. But fortunately the guy who did Mupen64PlusAE (one of the emulators) released FilePwn:
FilePwn on OuyaForum
Which lets you surf the Ouya file system and install packages. Install it through the normal Ouya method. Looks like it's free (as in beer free.)
DroidDesktop isn't a perfect solution. You have to specifically run it when you want to perform file management and the way the Ouya is setup an app takes over the machine and I have no idea how to switch away and do the multitasking I know Android is capable of. But it works and does *not* require rooting. I was able to surf to my USB key and copy and delete files from a Windows workstation.
Edit:
Whoops. FilePwn was *not* released by PaulsCode.com but by littleguy77. Paul just gave him a thumbs-up. My bad.

It took me a bit to figure out how to get the APK to sideload FTPDroid. I ended up using APK Extractor:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.sylark.apkextractor&hl=en
on my Nexus 7 to get the file. But now after sideloading when I run FTPDroid, it drops right back to the Ouya menu. I'm having the same issue with ES File Explorer. Both are apps that are supposed to run on the Ouya just fine.
Does anyone have any ideas? Is this some issue running Google Play apps on the Ouya?

Have you tried samba filesharing from google app store? I use it on all of my devices but have not tried it out on ouya.

And work fine !

I use dropbox & copy to get files to the Ouya.
It's a little more roundabout, but i can download files at work, put them in the @ouya folder in copy, then download when i get home.
I use StockPlus Room that have CIFs support + Mount Manager (free and paid options) and conect to my Time Capsule 3T, and forget the memory limitations on OUYA.

Nice skeleton solution!!!
I've used [and am using] the servers ultimate pro
but I'll keep this one as a backup
ES File Explorer
I've tried nearly all the set-ups above but the one I find most reliable uses ES File Explorer. No need for root or anything else.
Sideload ES File Explorer
Open ES File Explorer
Go to Remote Manager, under tools
Go to Settings (for remote manager)
Turn off 'Close on exit'
Set root directory as your external USB drive connected to the OUYA
Exit settings, and turn on WLAN
I then use an Filezilla to transfer all my downloaded files from my Desktop directly to the correct folder locations on the USB drive connected to the OUYA. I get really solid speeds on the transfer between the two devices.
I can then leave the OUYA in XBMC mode, while being able to transfer any downloads very quickly to the USB drive whenever I want.
Note: I found this worked best when OUYA was connected via wi-fi. Ethernet was problematic

[Q] Custom Background for firetv question help please ??

Hi all,
Running kodi/Helix 14.0 sideloaded on my non-rooted fireTV.... With no other extras or addons apart from my network attached HD.
Using IkonoTV as my launcher.
all updates blocked via opendns.
I just wanted to know if it was possible to change the background wallpaper on the main screen...
I know I have to go to System/Settings and then to appearance then go to skin tab and then to settings....then the tab for "Background Options" then "enable custom Background".
Once I have done this I then go to "Background Path:" and this is where I get stuck..... It's been a real pig... because the only two options I have are "External Storage" and "Root Filesystem". It's impossible for me to be able to change either of these directorys to anything else. And believe me, I've tried.
I've tried adding my photos "under the main photo tab" on the main screen held on my external storage HD and I have no problem with that...
Is the reason I cannot change the background because my firetv is not rooted, (root is not possible, due to when it was produced).
I would really appreciate any advice or help on this, as I'm googled out, and I've given up looking at the amount of tube vids telling me how to install kodi...
Is it possible for me to use adbfire to add images to the firetv somehow?
Weird thing is, nearly all of the folders I have looked in within "external storage" and "root filesystem" are empty...
One good thing is that I managed to find a tube video showing how to update kodi on a firetv without loosing ones settings using adbfire, as I wanted to update to 14.2.
Thanks chaps for reading my help request... as I seem to be all out of luck at the moment. (wish it was as easy to change the wallpaper on my firetv as it is on my laptop).
Install ES file explorer on fire tv via adb. Link it to your dropbox or Google drive account. Copy photos to your cloud account using your PC. Access from fire TV using ES file explorer and download to folder of your choice.

Thanks for the info D33H...... cheers mate..
I have to admit, I did eventually manage to get it done by using adbfire, by changing the push folder to "sdcard" and pushing my photos that way.... not ideal as I would like them in a particular folder of my choice, but at least kodi can now see my images in "external storage"....
But I like the idea of using ES file explorer, so I might try it that way as well.
On a sidenote, is it possible to run kodi without ones internet on,..... I've tried but i only get a flashing orange light,.... would this be happening, because i have set a 4 digit code on my firetv.. (to stop anyone from making unnecessary purchases by mistake).
I only ask because if my internet goes down it would be nice to still be able to use kodi.

Copying files from pc to Amazon fire TV stick

Hi all
I want to copy my kodi addon and user data folders from my pc to Amazon fire stick.
What is the easiest the way to do this? I know there is a program called adb etc but I'm looking for a other alternative.
Has anyone used wondershare to do something like this?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Chris
ES File Explorer. If you have a shared folder on a PC, go to it through Cloud/LAN, long-press the first file or folder, then short press all of the others, go to the bottom of the screen and select Copy, then go to the folder you want to put them in and go to the bottom of the screen and select Paste.
Before you can get to the Kodi folders you will need to enable the See Hidden Folders option in ES, it's somewhere towards the bottom of the left bar.
I'm not sure what you mean? About shared folder etc? My 2 folders I want to copy I have saved in a file on my desktop

I'm sorry I'm quite new to all this, I do have es file Explorer on my pc though. Like I say I have the 2 folders on my desktop so is there a step by step guide on how to get these on my stick.
I know the kodi folder is hidden and I know how to unhide it but beyond that I'm a little stuck

1. Download ADB Fire from here -
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2786505
2. Download ES File Explorer
3. Open up the panel that said Network, then Remote manager on ES File Explorer
4. Turn it on & note down the ip address & port number
5. On ADB Fire add a new device & input the address & port from the last step
6. Press connect
7. Locate the file location you wish to replace
8. Drag the file on the left which is the files of your computer To the fight which is your device
9. Once completed close both application
Hope this helps If so press that thanks button
There is a few other ways..
Just use the the KODI back up program ..
Back up your setup to a shared directory on your home network computer..
Go into backup program on KODI on the firestick and set backup directory to your shared drive on the computer where the backup is.. I am assuming you have the firestick on the same WiFi as the computer is on.. As if you have shared the directory on the computer it should be broadcasting the computer out into your home network..
Then it's just a matter of restore all settings and bam...
Good way if you decide to setup other KODI setups within a home network..
We have it in all bedrooms on different Boxs.. So yes.. A quick way is a good way.. As I get to okay then update the other systems as needed..
Also..there is another good program which is a Chinese one.. That sets up a file explorer with pretty good capabilities..
It's called .. Wukung remote..
Find.it in the play store.. It will setup the server side to the firetv stick.. and then takes out so much mucking around out of setups for these things..
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wukongtv.wkremote.client.en&hl=en

How to transfer / copy / backup app or game settings between two AFTVs?

I've got a non-rooted AFTV 1 with some games installed. Now I want to upgrade to a (non-rooted) AFTV 2. How can I copy my game settings from my AFTV 1 to the AFTV 2? I've tried whispersync option, but it didn't work for me. I don' want to start every game again from scratch.

I think if you go into your file system with something like "File Explorer or Es File Manager on Your AFTV or using ADB or an FTP server on your computer" & goto sdcard0/android/data & find the file there for your game just find the right name or the auther of the game? & copy that into your new AFTV in the same location (sdcard0/android/data) after you have already installed The game on it first though, & just copy/replace the old file. See if this works.... It should do?
If this helped don't forget to press that thanks button ?
Yes, I've tried that, with ES Explorer as a FTP server (remote manager). But there are no files in /sdcard/android/data/com.ratrodstudio.snowparty2/ for that game. Also i can't find any game settings folder for the game "Xenowerk". Where could that be?

With adb try extracting the folders before sdcard0? I'd presume that the file your looking for maybe in system or sys then In the folder app? I'm at work now & not anywhere near a AFTV or a laptop so I can't help anymore than that at the moment

Google ADB Fire, add the ip address & then find your device, press connect, then look for the part where it says push & pull, pull from where ever you need then push it back after you done what ever you want to add, when finished disconnect.

I've think it's useless without root. i've got no access to /root/data/ folder where most app or game settings are stored. this is really pain in the ass for people using a Fire TV for gaming and upgrade their device, lose all game settings. Amazon should provide a cloud storage option to migrate devices.

My fire sticks which are 1st & 2nd Gen are not rooted & I can use ADB Fire with those, I've not been trying to mess with game data but have modded/added & changed a few things?
Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
When trying to access /root/data/ with ADBFire or TotalCommander, i get an "access denied" message. ES Explorer shows the Bilder AS empty, which isn't the truth. Backup apps i've tried also can't create a backup of the data. You can do a data backup if the app or game use /sdcard/Android/data/ as storage location.
I tried the backup from adb
I connect with adbfire, then run ADB
adb backup -noapk com.ubisoft.rayman.fiestarun
the message in adb tells me to confirm the backup on my device. on my smartphone i got a black screen where I can confirm, decline or can type a password. After confirmation a file backup.ab is created in my adb folder on my client. The smartphone is not rooted and there is no need to do it.
On myaftv1 I never get that black screen where I'm asked to confirm the backup, so it s´doesn't start.
Is there anything I can do, like install some apks?

It's probably a system app and by default the file manager you're using is not showing system apps. See if there's an option to enable it.
I use X-Plore file manager and it has an "app manager" that lists all installed apps. By default though system apps are turned off, so I have to bring up the context menu and click on "show system apps".
After which I can find any app installed and back up the APK by creating a copy of it.
Solid Explorer shows system apps but it isn't listed amongst them. Will give X-Plore a try.
cheers
UPDATE: Tried X-Plore, Same thing neither 9Now nor ABC iView appear yet both are displayed on the Recommended apps list and work when clicked on. Odd thing is they never work first time, only second time. It's as if both are just shortcuts for a temporary app that it downloads and installs but no sign of either on the TV.
Try installing Shareit
