Getting My Tablet Back to Stock Firmware [SM-T800] - Galaxy Tab S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello XDA,
I am looking to update my Tab S to Lollipop. Problem is, I rooted it almost a year ago and do not know the method in which I did it. I'm guessing without knowing any other information, my best best bet would be downloading 5.0.2 from Sammobile (currently doing so) and using Odin 3.09? Is this the easiest way?
Also, if I'm located in the USA, what region do I want to use for the download? I didn't see anything that applied to me, so I picked an unknown region. Is there something else I should be looking for?
Android Version
4.4.2
Kernel Version
3.4.39-2947015
[email protected] #1
Build Number
KOT49H. T800XXU1ANK1
SE for Android Status
Enforcing
SEPF_SM-T800_4.4.2_0040

The quickest way would be to use Samsung Kies. The download is quicker but it installs immediately so you don't get to keep the download.
EDIT: Also the US region is called Cellular South.

Is that what Smart Switch Mobile is? Do you happen to have a link for a short guide? And will I still need to download the stock firmware when using Kies?
And thanks for clearing up the region question.

http://www.samsung.com/in/support/usefulsoftware/KIES/#none
Use the link to download Kies, install, connect tablet to pc and open Kies. From there you'll know what to do. No guide necessary. No need to download the firmware either. Kies is automated once you select upgrade.
EDIT: There are two versions of Kies. Grab Kies3.

Thank you! You were right, Kies3 immediately recognized that I did not have the latest firmware. So now I'm waiting for the update to download and implement itself.

I am in the exact same situation as you.
Not able to take the OTA even if i undo root via supersu
Kies detected that there was an update. But BEEN HOURS with "Preparing software update components for Galaxy Tab S"
I closed it and I am trying with Smart Switch .. same .. been 1 hour now and nothing happens.
How could I flash the latest firmware? Thanks

You may want to check with other sources, but my initial thought before getting a response here was to download the current firmware build and use the Odin tool. I'm assuming it would work for you.

I have downloaded the stock ROM from some Russian web site which then directed me to some Google drive, a 1.6GB download, in my case SEE-T805XXU1BOD1-20150511102748.zip
I then used Odin to flash it - Select BL for "T805XXU1BOG2_bootloader.tar.md5" (stock bootloader) and AP for "T805XXU1BOD1_T805OXX1BOD1_T805XXU1BOD3_HOME.tar.md5" (stock ROM)
I believe that the above procedure works under almost all circumstances, root or no.
I then made plenty of backups with TWRP so that I do not have to use Odin anymore, I simply restore the stock ROM from backup (plus I get all my applications and system as I want it rather than having to re-do everything from scratch each time).
And just to say that all the OSes I have downloaded so far, they all had problems, so I end up restoring the stock ROM within hours of installing a new OS.

1. Download your stock rom from SamMobile,
2. Put your phone in download mode
3. Open ODIN and flash the stock firmware.
You will be unrooted, but all stock apps, including FlipBoard, will be present.
Side Note: I do believe you can download Flipboard from Google Play

When I go to download the new firmware, it shows 2 different ones. Ones from July and its PDA is I747UCALG1. The other ones is from may and its PDA is I747UCALEM. What do those mean?

The one from July is more recent, so I would download and flash it. (UCALG1)
If you want some advice, always download the most recent firmware from your carrier based on date.

[Solved] [Q] SGH-T999 Rooted bad, phone stuck on start screen

Hello xda,
I tried rooting my SGH-T999 and it took a while so I unplugged the USB and restarted the phone. Phone keeps saying it has encountered a problem with the current firmware, connect to KIES and select recovery. Kies does not connect to the device. I read on xda to reflash using ODIN. I have ODIN v1.85 from trying to root, is this the right version to use because I also found the ODIN3_v3.07? As far as USB driver, is there separate drivers for ODIN or are people referring to the Samsung Kies drivers (I just installed KIES). I read to do it on this screen and I also read to try to go into the recovery mode (holding vol down, home, power) and then reflashing; which should I do?
Also, I found this link on xda for the T-mobile firmware ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1949687 ). No idea which one to choose, why are there so many, I am currently downloading the latest one
"UVDLJA
PDA: T999UVDLJA
CSC: T999TMBDLJA
Version: 4.1.1 JB
Date: Nov. 14, 2012
Sammobile Link
Samsung-Updates Link"
If I want to use the pre rooted file do I need to fix my problem first and try flashing with stock firmware or can I try to fix the issue directly with the pre rooted firmware?
Re: [Q] SGH-T999 Rooted bad, phone stuck on start screen
Use the Odin from my signature.
You can probably just flash mrRobinson's stock rooted rom to fix it. And Kies is garbage. Uninstall it.
I would like to see the root guide you used as well.

Before I try to flash with mrRobinson's stock rooted rom which I just finished downloading, I will uninstall Kies and install the USB drivers first?
Thanks for your response Aerowinder.
I got USB drivers earlier today that was a newer version but I will be using the files from your sig since it works :good:
Another question I had was, does the phone need to be in download mode or can I do it in the screen where it says "encountered problem with current firmware. Connect to KIES and select recovery" screen when I flash with Odin? I know normally I would have to be in the download mode but I'm wondering if it is the same when I am getting this error.
Re: [Q] SGH-T999 Rooted bad, phone stuck on start screen
Phone must be in download mode to use Odin.
The drivers in my signature are not the newest, you are correct. They are the last version I found that work without any issues. The newer ones pretty much suck. Constant disconnects mainly.

Awesome thanks!
So I am watching the root video on your sig, so in my case I would choose the rom I want for the PDA instead of the cwm-touch-6.0.2.3-d2tmo right? Should I extract the rooted firmware or just load the zipped file onto ODIN PDA?
Re: [Q] SGH-T999 Rooted bad, phone stuck on start screen
Root66 does not contain a recovery so you still need to flash one of those but don't use my link. Get ROM Manager once you're up and running.
If you don't care about the flash counter you can flash the tar in my signature.
Sorry to interject here but you can get an Odin flashable recovery from here.
You can flash one of these and then flash Root66 right after and you'll have stock Rooted ROM with stock or custom recovery (your choice).
Not to be a buzzkill or anything but you are probably the 5th or 6th person in the past 2 weeks that have encountered the "encountered problem with current firmware. Connect to KIES and select recovery" error. Only a few of them have been able to pull out of it. The ones that have, have had to flash Root66 (or their device respective FW) multiple times.
I hope that you can get out of it and please post here if you do. Aerowinder knows what he is doing. Follow his lead.

Okay I don't care about the counter, I just want my phone to work and I'll be happy.
But now I'm getting a little confused about the cwm recovery.
So just to be clear, you are saying I need to flash a recovery (cwm-touch-6.0.2.3-d2tmo in my case since I don't care about the counter), BUT do I flash the recovery before or after I flash with Root66 firmware? That part I am confused about. And do I flash one right after another or do I need to restart my phone or ODIN first?
Thank you so much for helping me out. I was freaking out this morning and I am very grateful for your help and knowledge. I hope I am not being too much of a pain or hassle with these questions. Sorry that I am quite new to this

Woody, I went to the link you posted. What are the 4 files for?
Don't use those - they are older versions.
If you don't care about the counter, then flash the CWM in my signature using Odin (can provide TWRP tar link if that's your thing), then flash root66 using Odin. You can reboot in between... but no real reason to do so.
If you are still having issues after you flash these, drop into recovery (vol up + home) and reset factory defaults. If still having problems, only thing left to do is flash a full stock image, link also in my signature. The page you linked to does not contain the newest version because DocHolliday hasn't been around here much lately.

Top one is TWRP version 2.3.0.0
Second is 6.0.1.2 CWR touch version
Third is TWRP version 2.3.1.0
Fourth is Stock recovery.
Do not flash all of them. Are you a TWRP or CWR kind of person? Instead of re-typing it out, go here and I come in on post #20 on the 2nd page. Read that to the end and let us know if you understand it. Pretty easy to follow but I understand your Panic Mode, so take your time.

I will take a look at the link Woody.
I am really hoping this will work on the first try!
Okay so from reading your post Woody I can use EITHER the TWRP and CWR, but I want to use the one that is easiest to use. Which one do you guys think is easier to use?
Also, SU3.3 or SU1.04 which one should I use? Aerowinder, your sig shows both now but earlier I didn't notice the SU1.04. I just realized I only need the SU file IF the prerooted file doesn't work but just in case it doesn't I guess it is better to know.
Draw straws. I use CWM/Superuser. I use Superuser because CM comes with it. AOKP comes with SuperSU... both work fine. Just make sure you use the ones from my signature, as they are newer versions. You won't need su if you get a prerooted rom, only for stock.

So the Odin 3.07 didn't work either so I ended up using ODIN 1.85
Turned off auto reboot and left f reset on (no idea what f reset does lol)
Flashed CWM
Flashed root66 rom
Restarted phone and it was back to normal with all the data saved, but no SU (wasn't unlocked)
So reflashed CWM
Then restarted in clockwork recovery and ran super user and now the phone is rooted

That's the attitude, with Android you have to be a sponge and try to learn as much as you can. A single Google search will give you the answers you seek and making a backup is pretty much universal no matter what Rom, phone you have. Good luck

Yes. EMSPilot's rom is a US version. You can just flash it.
You will need to first root using cf-auto root, then install a custom recovery like TWRP to flash this rom. It will trip your knox counter and void your warranty.
Alternatively, if you don't want to void your warranty and want a stock US rom, got to sammobile.com and download the appropriate rom which you will flash with Odin.

thx dl12345. I tried to search EMSPilot's rom thread, but not sure if i am able to make sure that papergarden apps is inside that ROM?
Here is an overview of how to use odin which is what you need to flash official firmware.
http://forums.androidcentral.com/am...ide-samsung-how-flash-stock-rom-via-odin.html
You'll need to download the rom you wish to flash and the Odin program.
Most of these samsung devices all follow the same formula so that's a plus.
Personally I've flashed from US based roms to various countries without issues, except Chinas version, which wouldn't install.
If you need more info then please feel free to search it out and good luck.

I had a look and it doesn't seem to be there. But that isn't a problem because you can always pull it out of the stock firmware and since EMSPilot's ROM is a rooted one, you can install it to /system/priv-app fairly easily using something like Total Commander or any other root file manager or even TWRP file manager for that matter.
The APKs are called SamsungMagazine.apk and SamsungMagazineWidget.apk. I have made de-odexed and zipaligned versions of these APKs so I can let you have them if you need.
Alternatively, flash the stock (which won't nuke your warranty). I cannot find a USA version on sammobile, but I can confirm that the generic UK version has the Samsung magazine APKs on it

Ok, so a few clarifications: yes, EMSPilot's ROM does seem to have Papergarde. However, after I checked, I note that the Samsung appstore has a copy you can just download and install. You should try this method as it's the simplest solution.

Ok, then it is deliberately region filtered. I saw another comment on a different site that indicated a similar thing. In which case trying to install the APKs on your Singapore device probably would run into issues with the content not being available.
I recommend flashing the stock firmware. Get the UK version here: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/3/?download=32716. Unzip it. Download the cf-auto root tool for the SM-T700. here: http://download.chainfire.eu/468/CF-Root/CF-Auto-Root/CF-Auto-Root-klimtwifi-klimtwifixx-smt700.zip. You don't need to root if you install the stock firmware, however the cf-auto root package contains the latest Odin utility. If you don't root you will not trigger the knox flag and your warrant will remain intact.
Unzip the cf-auto root file and copy the unzipped tar.md5 firmware file from above into the same folder.
Open Odin
Reboot phone in Download Mode (press and hold Home + Power + Volume Down buttons)
Connect phone and wait until you get a blue sign in Odin showing the com port is connected
Click PDA button in Odin and choose the .tar.md5 firmware file you unzipped. It will verify the md5 signature.
Make sure re-partition is NOT ticked (which it should not be with the Odin from cf-autoroot). Don't touch anything else.
Click the start button
It will take a few minutes and you will then be on generic UK firmware with Papergarden installed. At this point, if you decide you want to root, then also flash the firmware image file that came with the cf-autoroot package in exactly the same way (click PDA, choose the file, click start). This will root your device but also trigger the Knox flag and void your warranty.
This is about as easy as it can get. I've given you the links to the correct firmware and the flash utility as well as explicit instructions on how to flash the firmware.

[KitKat OTA update but SG4 Rooted] trying to enable OTA with "TriangleAway" method

[KitKat OTA update but SG4 Rooted] trying to enable OTA with "TriangleAway" method
Hello everyone,
I'm posting today because I need some help like many others .
Here is my situation I bought a SG4 mini a year ago the GT-I9195 version (Europe France to be more accurate).
I rooted it because I needed to using the XDA method : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2364980
I did not change the ROM so I'm technically still on the official 4.2.2 rom : JDQ39.I9195XXUAMG8 (see attachment "1.png")
I did however install the "CWM-Based Recovery v6.0.3.7 " boot system to have advanced boot features.
The OTA Kit Kat is now available in my country, I was hoping to do it using the OTA update directly from the phone, unfortunatly I receive the error message "your device has been modified software updates are not available" (see attachment "2.png").
My goal is to update to android Kit-Kat without having to re-format completely my phone to factory settings, and just trick the phone to make it think it's not "modified".
After doing some research I found an application that does this "Triangle Away : " http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2/orig-development/2014-01-15-triangleaway-v3-26-t1494114
So after running it I discovered that the status of my phone was "Binary = Custom" and "System=Modified" (see attachment "3.png")
So I managed to reset the status of Binary and System to "Official" using triangle away (see attachment "4.png").
But when I try to do the OTA update I still get the "your device has been modified software updates are not available" message .
And when I go into phone status the "Device Status" phone says it's "Custom" even-though it says official in the triangle away app" (see attachment "5.png")
Can someone please help me figure this out ?
Thank you XDADEV and all the members for this great community, that has helped me so many times over the years !
Frem
TriangleAway is not supporting our device.
But anyway: I would suggest either updating with Kies or with Odin (if the Kitkat Firmware for your CSC is available at Sammobile.com).
Sent from my black pearl using Tapatalk
But this imply that I will need to format the system completely
No, you don't!
You only need to root it again afterwards (with Towelroot - in case it still works - or using other methods like the Rootkit).
Thank you for that info i'm going to try it this afternoon.
I'm downloading the lastest firmware right now (http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/3/?download=35387 ), is there any tutorial around for upgrading using Kies ?
The downloaded firmware has to be flashed with Odin. Upgrading firmware with Kies is very straightforward: install Kies, connect your phone via USB, Kies will check for updates, ...

I tried with Kies unfortunately, Kies doesn't find the new update which is strange, it tells me I already have the last firmware 4.2.2 which is from last year (see attachment).

Yes I actually have it installed on my phone as root, but I only used it once because I needed to restore some backup for angry birds.
Lol I forgot about it I guess I can use it to backup and restore everything I never use it like that before.
Thank you for the tip I'll look how to backup everything first and restore it after.
But I'll need to be root to restore after I guess ?
I don't have the "pro version"

Yes your phone has to be rootet to restore your backups, but it's really worth it to buy the pro version.
If you're updating to KitKat, you will loose everything with Odin.
I suggest that you backup everything with TB and after upgrading, do not restore everything! You will have errors because upgrading from JB to KK. So, you should install everything as it was from Google Play, then restore the data of the app to avoid problems.
Good Luck!
Press THANKS if I helped!

Thank you for the advice I'm actually thinking of upgrading tonight I was busy this week-end.
I hope Kit-Kat is really worth it....
My jellybean ROM is getting more and more unstable...

There's isn't much of a 'visible' upgrade from JB to KK, but there are 'behind the scenes' updates, which are very good.

I use the one attached. Been using it for more than a year.
Open it, press PDA, and insert the .tar.md5 file you downloaded. Be sure your phone is read and is in Download Mode and start. It will take 9:30mins to complete the process (sometimes more, sometimes less) and some more minutes to completely boot up.
Good Luck.

[Q] tab s (sm-t805) soft bricked (but has access on download mode)

Hello XDA!!
Im from Philippines. I have recently updated my galaxy tab s t805 manually from kitkat 4.4.2 to lollipop 5.0.2 (swiss firmware downloaded from here xda thru mega). I dont know what country firmware my tab s has in it originally. However, I read and came across that it is ok to flash any country firmware as long as it refers to a particular model. In my case for tab s t805 (swiss firmware).
I flashed the said swiss firmware with odin by following the instruction to the letter ( samsung driver and left odin as it is, put the file on AP). But it failed. I changed cable, port, and firmware (Chech version) but still failed. (Does Tab S has security reactivation mode. I don't know if I set it ON before flashing. I cannot check it anymore because it won't boot up.)
I can access download mode . If I charge the tablet the screen shows a tablet and a pc with text UPGRADE HAS AN ISSUE and a yellow triangle below it.
MY QUESTION IS:
HOW CAN I RESTORE MY TABLET BACK SO I CAN ENJOY IT? I REALLY NEED YOUR HELP AND EXPERTISE GUYS!!! IM PLANNING TO ROOT THIS, INSTALL TWRP AND TRY IRON ROM I HAVE COME ACROSS AT XDA.
Thank u in advance.

If you had reactivation lock on, it will refuse to flash, but I'm unsure if you had it on. Anyway, find another Kitkat firmware for your device. And pick the one from your country then flash in odin. If that fails then you may have reactivation lock on. Then I would suggest you download samsung kies 3 and pick the emergency restore or something. There are many videos on YouTube regarding restoring with kies. If that fails then.... I'm not sure from here. If someone has a better response, write your ideas down I'm off to bed now so I can't go into much detail
Edit: IN DOWNLOAD mode it should tell you if reactivation lock is off or on. If you don't see anything regarding it, you don't have the feature in which you should be good. Just flash another firmware if that's the case
Edit2 : Can you also post the log in odin to here.

Thank you. Should I flash back to kitkat firmare specified to or for my country? Or still try another firmware in lollipop from another country? The Philippines, my country, has no lollipop update yet.

In my tablet's download mode, it does not show whether its security reactivation lock is ON or OFF. So, I suppose it is not set ON.

Then you don't have it. I know for sure sprint and tmobile has it. If it shows no signs of reactivation lock in download mode, then most likely, you should be OK. Hopefully

Ok. Then I will report back to this post after I download the kitkat firmware and flash it back. Dowmloading here is so slow. Can you give me a way so I can download the kitkat firmware fast. Or should I try back flashing the lollipop again. Im afraid the lollipop update will still fail in odin.

Try this tool. Go to Samsung updates website and fill in the Firmware info http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=57842725 into the tool.

By d way, I am interested of your Iron Rom. Can I flash it directly with kitkat 4.4.2 if I restore my tab s? Does it have the same effect with the lollipop based? Or should I update first to lollipop and install the iron rom?
Sent from my X160 using Tapatalk
As ever people DONT read the whole thread BEFORE flashing!
Your issue has been mentioned a million times already and how to fix it. The update fails for almost everybody because the hidden.img and cache.img fail to flash because they are carrier related. All you needed to do was flash the version that was posted in the thread with them removed.
However seeing as you already flashed then to solve it simply boot into recovery and wipe the cache or install TWRP which will wipe it automatically. After that everything will boot normally and you will have lollipop on you device.

Sorry for being careless. Thank you. But I don't have access to recovery anymore. Can install twrp in my tablet' s status now? Then how come the lollipop firmware boot into scene considering that the lollipop update through odin failed?
Sent from my X160 using Tapatalk
Here are the logs in odin. Can I flash twrp with odin in my case knowing that the flashing failure is carrier related. Will the tablet now boot into lollipop even the flashing failed in odin. Sorry for the asking I have really no sufficient background in flashing with odin. The tab s t805 is my first samsung device.

Here are the log in odin when the lollipop update failed. Thank you.

Ok. Can I flash now your all in one cf root---meaning installing twrp at the same time rooting my device now and it will boot to lollipop? Thanxx in advance. God bless!

Your getting the hidden.img error, which has been answered. Simply now just flash the all in one root from ashy and factory reset in twrp then reboot. I believe it should boot fine as only hidden.img fails to flash.
If that doesn't work, try flashing this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=59967456 and do the twrp stuff again

I have not made a factory reset yet atfer the tab s booted.
1. Is it necessary to do a factory reset?
Another thing is when I swipe to unlock the screen it is does not respond right away. I normally swipe to unlock the screen three times all the time before the screen unlocks. This is the way it is even in the kitkat firmare.
2. Is this firmare or rom related screen unresponsiveness?
Right now Im still charging my tablet.
