No WiFi after firmware update - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all, I seem to be going around in circles on this.
Basically I returned my M8 to stock and it was all working fine however was on an old version of android.
The phone said there was an update which I installed. Ever since the wireless will not turn on.
I have read some posts on here that if I could upgrade it to the next firmware level (2.26.61.1) the wireless would start working.
However you can only update over wifi or the pc link. I have tried to get the pc link to work. The best I got was the connection working and the download started but stayed at 0% so it clearly wasn't working.
I tried to browse the web also but that didn't work either.
I have done three factory reboots not and it will not enable.
Is there another way of tackling this?

Post your fastboot getvar all result without serial & imei no.
We'll see what actually that you need.

Your problem is wrong software version that you restored that's why no wifi.
What you need is 4.19.61.2
Install TWRP 2.8.7.0
Restore 4.19.61.2 backup
Install 4.19.61.2 stock recovery
Check OTA
How-to and needed files you can get them here :

rom update issue

Hi All
i have some bizarre things going on with my new HTC one m8
I rooted and flashed a custom ROM, but the WiFi stopped working (i flashed it to Android_Revolution_HD-One_M8_21.0)
so... i tried to get it back to stock (major pain) but i ended up restoring a backup of a 4.3 stock ROM i found on the web - EE (ORANG001) 1.54.61.5 (Philz)
hurrah everything worked great until an OTA popped up, i installed the update and again the WiFi stopped working
any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong? oh I cant get s-off either, I tried rumrunner and sunshine
below is the phone info.
if you can suggest how I get back to stock, or a version of android that the WiFi will work after an update then id be very grateful

your phone is the first i have seen that Sunshine will not work ...what was the error ?
flash the 4.3 stock ROM EE (ORANG001) 1.54.61.5 (Philz) you have and flash the stock recovery that goes with it
do a factory reset from the stock recovery and try the OTA again
Flashing any 4.4.4 based rom requires the latest firmware be flashed first if you don't already have it.... Or WiFi won't work. ?
Need to update cid and flash 4.4.4 firmware in order to run ANY 4.4.4 rom. Only thing I can think of is a mismatched firmware is the only place I have seen this occur with certain users devices and also did you flash the kernel seperately? I believe if still s-on this has to be done manually

You probably realize it at this point; but my rule of thumb is always make a backup before flashing anything (or at a minimum, have a known good backup or known good ROM ready to flash). Its got nothing to do with how "easy" a process is. Things can go wrong even with the simplest mods, to the most knowledgeable users, and even if you do nothing wrong.
You don't need s-off to update your firmware.
Either run a Lollipop (or Marshmallow) RUU intended for your CID (relock bootloader in order to RUU). Keeping in mind that this will wipe the phone.
Alternately (such as if there is no RUU for your version), restore a stock ROM that corresponds to your current firmware, restore corresponding stock recovery. Then do OTA update, which will also update your firmware.
After updating the firmware by either of the 2 above methods, just flash TWRP back onto the phone (in case of the RUU method, you'll need to unlock the bootloader again, before you can flash TWRP) and flash your custom ROM of choice.
If you do fastboot getvar all, and post the results (delete IMEI and serial numbers) we can offer some more specific assistance.
thanks for taking your time to help,

We need RUU, which i couldnt find, you dont need to worry about Firmware, we just have to find RUU for Vodafone UK, even if it's 5.0.2, or 4.4.4, don't care, cause we can use OTA to update if the phone is 100% stock.
this one any good no?

It's 401 for European unlocked, we need vodafone uk161
if I unlock the bootloader, do I still need to have usb debugging enabled in the settings before I can install twrp and an nandriod backup?
i dont think so, u can check forums noob friendly guides

Where to get latest firmware.zip for htc one m8

I have an htc one m8 ATT phone I want to install the ViperOneM8 5.02 rom on which says I need to update the firmware to a marshmellow firmware I think.
Or the latest.
While I have found some documentation how to do this on the net, I am not sure where I obtain these files.
The firmware.zip I believe it is
Help on this would be appreciated
Right now I am using hboot 3.16 and twrp 2.7
I found this link
http://android-revolution-hd.blogspot.com/p/android-revolution-hd-mirror-site-var.html
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=32780
and grabbed the 4.16.1540.8.zip but want to make sure I am grabbing the correct and latest version. Because I don't want to brick my phone
Post your fastboot getvar all result without serial & imei no.
You may need a different firmware if it's AT&T & S-On and also don't use that outdated 2.7 TWRP.

For some devices, TWRP 2.7 is recommended due to how older boot loaders may not take it well.
I like TWRP. When its workable, its array of tools is superior to CWM. But after I tried 2.8.x, I decided CWM or TWRP at or below 2.7.0.2 is safer and less crash prone.
When I attempted to boot to recovery it would boot loop. Please be mindful of boot signing. If you so slightly make your OEM software notice things a fuse will make your phone implode.

Good point. For some odd reason CM pairs ROMs and Recoveries. If you check the Dev Auto update option would that be unnecessary.
It's been an itching question I actually had...
Sent from my HTC M8 GPE
? Mass Transit Honchkrow ?
I originally had twrp 2.8 on and tried to install the latest. But it was freezing because I think I need a newer version of hboot. which I have 3.16 on it.
I then downgraded to 2.7 to get it working. I installed ViperOnem8 Rom not reading the website successfully. but have issues with wifi, and 2 minute boot times.
"The 5.0.x ROM is based on HTC’s latest M8 Sense 7 Android 6.0.x base and requires you to update your firmware to at least the 6.0.x (Marshmallow) version! If you don’t you will run into some issues such as Wi-Fi not working or No Boot, etc.
We cannot install the firmware for you during ROM installation so you will need to take the steps to update the firmware on your own."
So I need to update my firmware. I have an ATT S-ON phone. But I have no clue where to get the firmware from, and make sure it is the right one and recent.
I need to update my firmware in order for this rom and a newer version of twrp to work correctly
ok, so
I upgraded to 3.11.1700.5 firmware I found. and that was successful.
Then I upgraded my twrp to twrp-3.0.2-0-m8 and that was successful
Now I am trying to install either Revolution Rom, or ViperOnem8 and both have the same problem. After install they keep booting into twrp and won't load.
I tried Cynamod and that installed and booted fine.
I believe both Revolution and Viper use the Aroma installer. Anyone know what is going on with these and a fix to stop it from booting into twrp?
Need advice

Wrong firmware. You installed an old version of GPE firmware.
You can't install Sense ROM like Revolution and Viper on GPE firmware.
I asked you to post fastboot getvar all to help you but it seems that you made it harder now because you installed a wrong firmware. If it is S-Off, then it is easy to fix.

First - remove all serial & imei no. from your above post.
As I said, it is not easy to fix this with S-On device. What you can try is to install the latest AT&T 6.20.502.5 firmware first then run 6.20.502.5 RUU
Read this for the firmware and how-to : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=66886759&postcount=23
You can get the RUU here : http://www.htc.com/us/support/htc-one-m8-att/news/

so your saying, install the ruu, update the firmware, then re install viper?
Can't I just update the firmware like I did before? It was S-On before I updated the firmware
The ruu won't install. it says needs more then 30% battery, yet it is fully charged

No .. I don't say that ... read again ...
Flash firmware.zip first then RUU ...
or install ROM first, don't reboot the system, but reboot to bootloader, relock bootloader then flash firmware.zip
As you already flashed a wrong firmware, as I said this may work and may not work but the only way that you can try to fix the wrong firmware installed.

Because you have wrong firmware installed.
but with what firmware.zip? I never got the right firmware.zip to begin with so I don't have any firmware files to update with

That show you don't read all the posts that I posted .. the firmware.zip is posted in the post that earlier posted
You have to wait for someone else I guess who can write a post that you can understand .. maybe my English is not good enough ... good luck

ok .. now that I understand what you are saying. because you had the RUU .exe and also were explaining how to update the firmware at the same time while the firmware was burried a couple of levels of posts, I didn't understand what you were saying.
so it looks like the firmware updated successfully

I unlocked the firmware through the htc website with the Unlock_code.bin
because fastbook oem unlock didn't work.
had to reinstall twrp and that worked after reinstall. although lots of mounting file system errors. with /Data I don't know if that's normal.
seems to be fixed after formatting
Now I will try installing a rom

Now you got it.
And yes, after changing from GPE to Sense GSM (AT&T) firmware, you need to reinstall TWRP (the latest 3.0.2-0) and you MUST format data partition, in TWRP - select WIPE, Format Data - yes ... because GPE & Sense data partition is of different size.
Please where can i get compatible firmware for my htc one m8s with S.O 1.12.1405.6 . I have been on this over 3 weeks now but all no avail.

M8 stuck whilst loading recovery mode..

So i accidentally wiped the phone including the internal storage and the OS instead of factory resetting (wasn't paying attention) and tried to re install the android marshmallow OS onto the phone which didn't work..
i managed to flash the twrp by following another forum where someone had the same problem, using the adb process to flash the bootloader etc but now i can't access the recovery at all, it just says entering recovery and remains idle until i get bored of waiting and power off.
Can anyone help me?
i can provide whatever information is necessary for you to help, just need my phone revitalised as i desperately need it for my new job that i should hopefully be starting at the end of the week.
thanks in advance!

@mcg0v
you post your issue in the wrong forum
your device is HTC One m7
this forum is for HTC One m8
go to this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one/general/lollipop-ruu-zip-small-collection-t3053944
this is for your device ask there some one will guide you
I have quite the same problem (and i have One M8). Can't enter TWRP recovery, bootloop - just shows an endless loading, i can start the phone without that by pushing pwr button/VOL+/VOL- at the same time (fastboot mode - ok). I want to get the stock back, but it's impossible without entering TWRP. Can someone help me please? It seems that i do not understand this thing anymore.

Fastboot erase cache, then flash TWRP again in fastboot. Try TWRP 2.8.1.0, which is an older version (more compatible with your old firmware). Then see if you can boot into recovery.
Or flash signed firmware, to update firmware (yours is ancient) then flash TWRP 2.8.7 and restore a newer stock backup (corresponding to the firmware flashed).

Thanks a lot. I've tried the first solution and at least TWRP is now working. I've tried the same thing, but it seems, that it was a wrong version of TWRP
Many apologies, turns out i misread the model and its actually the M7 i have. But im glad that this post is helping others with my original problem and thanks to other members who contributed to helping!
