Repurposing my M8 - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

First off, love my M8. It's the first device that has last me almost 2 years (I typically last about three months). But I finally updated to a G4 (really good deal). Anyway I am using my M8 as a media renderer for my home theatre. Running play music and BubbleUPNP. My query is whether or not it might be possible to make the IR work as an always on reciever for media controls. Basically I want to be able to skip tracks with a universal remote. We know it can receive for the learning of codes. Just an idea.....

[Q] Remote Control Music player (next song=x number of clicks)

Hi,
I'm totally new to Android and Desire peaked my interest. I've used WM and HTC as long as I can remember, but I'm fed up with WM...
However, there is an issue I hope to get some light over:
Is there anyway I can use a non-htc headset (I want in-ear) and use the microphone button and get to remotely control the music player on the Desire?
I have connected mine to the one in a store, 1 Click = start / stop music. 2 clicks voice call or similar. There seems to be no "NEXT SONG" feature.
On my HTC Touch HD I've used a tweak program that takes control over the signal from the headset and instead of doing a voice call - it sends info to music player (HTC proprietary). Worked like a charm, even when locked.
So, please, anyone knowing of a way to get around this? Major issue as I don't want to take phone out of pocket everytime I want to skip a tune...
Thanks

[Q] Three finger swipe to a non HTC media renderer?

Evening all, a random question that I haven't been able to find an answer to with a spot of googling and forum searching.
Got my One X this morning, impressed so far. In the course of playing around with it I started wondering about the three finger swipe used to "throw" playback to an HTC dongle. Like many people these days I run an HTPC in the lounge, currently on XBMC and showing on the local network as a media renderer. I'm presuming that a standard and unrooted ROM won't allow you to fling media to a non HTC renderer but would it be possible to hijack this "button press" on a custom ROM and send the playback to an HTPC or net tv?
It's an idle thought at the moment. Whilst I am comfortable modding, tweaking and flashing (as most people who've owned a first gen AMOLED Desire would be ) I'm not a dev and currently don't have the knowledge to state that it would be possible - hence asking wiser heads.
TL;DR - Could we use a three finger swipe to fling playback to any media renderer on a local network?

car remote control...not really sure what terms to search with

Yesterday I picked up a N7 with the intentions to run it as a CarPC like many others. I started playing with it last night, and immediately thought it would be neat to be able to use my phone as a remote for the tablet, just like it the remote for my car stereo works, so I can be outside of the car and still control the radio (yeah, it's an infrared remote, but it has a pretty decent range).
I started looking for something like this, but all I was finding was either VNC solutions, or using the phone like a video game controller. The VNC works...kinda, but it still seems a bit kludgy, at least with the VMLite Server/RealVNC client combo that I've been using. I'm sure I'm not the first one to think about this, but I wasn't finding it, and I suspect I just wasn't searching with the right words.
Realistically, all I'd really need is control of a couple media apps, like YouTube (I'll occasionally use it as an on-demand audio streaming type deal), Pandora/Slacker, and a media player, so I don't even really need a full screen mirroring solution, but I would like to have it show the name of the current track, or be able to select local music to play.

In my case I'm using Tasker + PushBullet to control my Nexus from my phone. On the phone I have a widget with a couple of buttons on it and when a button is pressed PushBullet sends a message to the Nexus with a single command which Tasker uses to perform an action. It was a little cumbersome at first, but now I have added many actions and I'm able to do it in no time.
Try Beyond XBMC. Plenty of remotes for it
Or you can also use ps3 remote with sixc axis app
Sent from my LG-D803 using XDA Free mobile app

Perfect AirPlay Audio Set Up

I switched from the Apple TV2 that I loved so much but started to crash a lot with Kodi.
Loving the FireTV, but was going insane trying to get my airplay setup working. I use airfoil from my mac to stream spotify to 3 airplay zones. With all the FireTV apps I downloaded, there was some latency issues that would be off during every connect and reconnect. Adjusting the settings didn't matter as it would be off again the next connect.
Tried Kodi's Airplay support, and not all that bad, though no volume (didn't know when I bought it that FireTV can't adjust internal audio), and no album artwork on the screen.
Thought about it for a few days and remembered that Airfoil has a speakers app for Android phones to turn it into an Airfoil receiver. I side loaded the app and Viola, all zones play simultaneously and album art on the screen. Tried the volume up and down on my mac (master volume) and low and behold it adjusts the volume on the FireTV. So happy that I have all the functionality of my AppleTV in a much more dynamic and faster device. Thought I would post this in case it helps someone else out as I have seen a few people ask about this in other forums, but haven't come across this solution.

This is why I love XDA, splendid.
Hi there,
Is this solution still working on your side? I tried the same last night and side loaded Airfoil speakers app. This is the first time I sideloaded anything. It is perfectly in sync with my other devices as long as I use my system audio from my PC. But when I try to use Spotify as source the app on the AFTS crashes. Do I need to have other apps services installed on my fire tv stick for this to work? What versions are you using?
I use apple music on my Macbook and it works fine. I use the latest version apk from the android play store.

Odd bluetooth behavior since updatin to android 9

I've been experience a few issues with the new update. One of them, which is more a nuisance than anything, is my bluetooth connection to my car. It's a 2015 Mustang with MyFord Touch. The phone is a galaxy S8+. About 1/3 of the time when I start the car, the phone shows up named a bunch of random characters, instead of Galaxy S8+. Not a huge deal. My music player starts automatically (even if I close it, and kill the process). The thing that's weird is that the audio is kind of hollow sounding when it starts up UNTIL I turn on the phones display, then it kicks into a fuller sound. It's never done this before. Not only that, but it decides when it wants to display track information from Samsung music player only a small portion of the time.
If I'm playing music through Amazon Music, it updates the track information, no problem. If I switch to Samsung's music player, it just displays the last track I played on Amazon music, and never changes. If I start the car with the music player going, it won't update track information until it gets to the next song, and even that is spotty.
Aside from these issues, and the issues I'm having with the default browser, I think it's a pretty good update. But this music thing is really bugging me. For the record, I've tried rebooting the phone. I've tried changing through the AVRCP versions in the developer options, I've toggled Dolby Atmos on and off, changed the sample rate, channels, etc. Nothing seems to be affecting this problem.
On a side note, how do I close the music player so it doesn't automatically start playing when connected to bluetooth?
Thanks in advance. If this doesn't belong here, let me know.

Did you ever try to update your car's firmware or going to your dealer and ask for it? I think it's because Android 9 is "too new" for your car
I updated to the latest firmware about 6 months ago. No new updates since then. It would be kinda bogus if android 9 made a 4 year old car obsolete, but i suppose it's possible.

It could be possible that you have to expect for a new car firmware or ask to your device forum if anyone else have your same problem with android auto
Good call. I'll pop the question over to my mustang forum. Thanks.
