Has anybody managed to buy a replacement power brick? - Shield Android TV Accessories

I can't find the power brick available on its own anywhere. I bought my Shield from the US and have been using a UK power adapter but now that adapter has broken and I would like to just buy a UK brick, or even just the interchangeable front plate.

You won't be able to, Nvidia have already said they don't sell replacement or spare power adapters for the Shield TV (see this thread), a quite remarkably stupid and ignorant policy in my opinion. They will, however, replace a faulty power adapter, and I've read at least one example of an individual not having to return the faulty one afterwards. Give it a go and get in touch with them.
EDIT -- On a side note, I bought my Shield from Amazon UK and it came with every type of adapter plate needed, including UK, Euro and US. I'm surprised your one wasn't similar.

That is really stupid, I want to use my shield sometimes during trips and my power supply is hidden in desktop, so taking it is pain in the ass. Maybe someone knows what kind of plug is used by nvidia? It would be enough to make new power supply, but I need name of the connector use and if it is possible to buy it.

edit: I no longer have my power brick for sale, I sold it last year.

If you ask nVidia customer support for a replacement they will give it to you for free.
You will be aksed for name/address/serial/place-and-date-of-purchase/model-number & a photo of the original box serial label.
They will accept 'I lost the reciept' and a completely BS place (Best Buy retail, WalMart, etc) and date of purchase, provided you have the rest of what they want.

I know this is an old thread, but I realized today that I was missing my supply and after hours of searching for one found this thread. I went to their site and opened a chat window and after providing exactly what you said they are sending me a new one for nothing. My reason was that I simply misplaced while housekeeping and could not find it anywhere! The lady I chatted with stated that I would probably have it within 4-5 days tops..... I hope that's true. I must have 50 5 and 12 volt supplies here, but as you well know there is nowhere that you can find that screwball power plug they use!
Thanks for the tip though....completely true!

Yep, my girlfriend was complaining about the high-pitched whine of our ShieldTV PSU, I got in touch with nVidia and they were very amenable and replaced it free of charge in less than 5 days. I didn't have to send back the old one. The new one is just as noisy unfortunately, but full marks for their customer service.

100% original from Nvidia themselves arrived yesterday.

Nvidia will send you one provided you send them a photo of your shield's serial. The claim will take a few days for approval, then once approved they'll fed ex it to ya. You can start the claim by speaking to an agent via chat.

I can confirm this. I have recently bought a unit without a power supply (I guess the previous owner lost it or burned it) and started the procedure with support over chat at Nvidia's site. Submitted all requested data via email (photo of serial included) and now I'm still waiting for approval (let's hope so). I'll report back as soon as I have some more information on the outcome.

Just received an NVIDIA RMA Shipment Information by email, so it's on its way.
Thank you for the information provided regarding this subject.

If you bought it second hand, how did you get the serial number? I just bought one off ebay without a power supply and no box. I wasn't aware the serial number is not on the device itself. They still want the original purchase receipt. Am I SOL?

Purchase receipt is not an issue, and they only asked for an invoice when I opened up a chat yesterday. I got an invoice from Amazon and uploaded that for them. Not sure if they actually would check the serial number. They might. Otherwise you could try a picture from another forum member.
I don't think you are SOL. They only do a cursory check, so you should be able to make this work one way or another.
EDIT: They shipped the replacement through FedEx the very next business day (4/2/18). It'll arrive on the 5th.

Kindle Fire Factory Cable

I'm a little surprised nobody has mentioned the factory cable in the accessories section. For anybody doing anything more than using the Kindle Fire in the stock configuration, I think the factory cable is a must-have accessory. It makes so many tasks so much simpler to perform. Getting out of bootloops, flashing a ROM for the first time, or unbricking... they all get reduced to at most 2 or 3 steps... all without any need to troubleshoot. If everybody had a factory cable (and knew how to use it) before they started tinkering with their device, the general section wouldn't be packed full of help requests.
For those who are unfamiliar with the factory cable, it's a special USB cable that will put the Kindle Fire directly into fastboot mode when it starts up. This is important because the hardest part of fixing most problems on the Kindle Fire is first getting the device into fastboot mode. Even in the worst bricking incidents... if you have any working bootloader, use the factory cable to get into fastboot, flash a new bootloader/recovery/ROM, reboot and the thing is fixed. The less familiar you are with how all of this stuff works, the more useful the factory cable will be in your toolbox.
You can make your own from a generic USB cable if you have a soldering iron and some time. I personally could have gone the DIY route, but I decided to purchase one from a fellow XDA member. He makes them himself and really takes pride in the quality of his products.
Product Information
It's saved me once and been a great timesaver in many other instances.

He said he ran out of parts to produce more and was waiting on supplies. He also said in a different thread that he was in the middle of a move, so I guess he's trying to get everything in order before starting up again. No reason you couldn't send him a PM anyway and get in line.. I'm sure it will be anytime now.

By default, outgoing PMs are not saved to the sent box. You either have to check the box down at the bottom for every message you send, or there's a setting you can change somewhere in your profile.

I'm not trying to be a cheerleader for SkOrPn's products, but for one thing, the eBay listing quotes 20-25 days before delivery. Even with SkOrPn's production delays, I'm guessing you'd get his before you get that delivery from Hong Kong.
However, the more important point here is that numerous XDA members have vouched for his product quality and customer service. If for some reason that cable from China doesn't work out, you'd be sitting on your hands waiting for it to get shipped back (likely at your expense) before they'd send you a replacement, or fronting another $9 in the hopes that the next one works. I had a similar experience with another gadget I ordered from China and not having it work. Other users in the KF forums have noted that SkOrPn has gone out of his way to make sure you are happy with your purchase.
Of course, how you spend your money is entirely up to you, but if I was in the market for one and I was given the choice, I think I would choose to spend the extra $6 for the peace of mind and insurance against potential frustration... to each his own.

Received my cable yesterday (ordered it when I made that post on the 11th of April). Works perfectly well.
Thank you for starting this post. I've been seeing "factory cable" everywhere on this forum and didn't have a clue what they were talking about. I just figured it meant I had to buy a cable - not that what the cable itself does is special!
Glad I used the search feature, finally, to find this out.

Yup, I just ordered one, 9.99$, 1.50$ shipping to Canada. It may take a while but it's cheap. Cheap enough to take the risk. The alternative is 47$ for the 3ft cable. The ebay one is only 2.5 ft, but that's better then the 1.5ft one.
Can someone look at this and tell me if the cable included with this deal is a "factory cable"?

I highly recommend buying the cable from SkOrPn. I bricked my KF and was too impatient to wait for the cable from China off of ebay, so when I ran across these forums I immediately ordered one from him. Ordered on Monday and had it by Thursday. It doesnt look homemade and worked great. Thanks SkOrpN!
I also bricked my Kindle during rooting. Using TWRP I accidentally wiped the system after I installed stock firmware so there was only stock bootloader. I had a cable that I purchased form DealExtreme it turned out that the plug can be easily opened so one can solder the 4-th pin to +5V.
If someone is willing to wait few weeks for the delivery this is the link for a cheap cable that can be easly modded to be a factory cable.
I can't post a link but do to deal extreme and search for sku 48924

Your very much welcome.... The ONLY real difference between mine and the ones from China is I actually test mine (three times during build) and the chinese slave labor do not bother testing because they know there is only a 10% chance of shipping a bad one. Why spend money on testing equipment and more slaves?
USB booting is easier than going and buying a factory cable IMO. I did it yesterday and it was much better than buying a cable and waiting for it to come in the mail.

Well, you're certainly entitled to that opinion, but from what I've seen on this forum, it's not one that's likely to be shared by most users. For most people, having to open up the case, risk damage to the device, and violate the terms of warranty is going to be beyond their comfort level. Besides, my suggestion is to have one around in case something goes bad, not order one after the fact. Just as people use a case to protect it before accidents occur, having a factory cable shouldn't be all that different. If you had one around, you would never consider USB boot to get into fastboot mode except as a last resort.

[Q] Replace Kindle Fire

So I have apparently ruined my KF. Details fall under this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34584686#post34584686 if you care to look/help.
But what I am interested in is if I can replace my KF for free with the 1 year warranty.
I know this would be cheating, but can I loosen the micro usb port and get a new or refurb model of the 1st gen KF?
My uncle purchased it through Amazon as a christmas present last year for me. I have the case still, with the original charging cable and the little manual in the sleeve at the top of the box. I don't see any actual paperwork that shows proof of purchase, serial number, or anything like that.
I don't think this falls outside the lines of allowability, but if it does, I am sorry moderators.
Has anyone done this or know if it works?
And I know that this is a bad practice, but I have next to no money, and since about June, I have been using my KF for everything, and I need it replaced, so I am trying to go about this through cheating. Please don't put posts about how this is why there are locked bootloaders and all that. I know...

Samsung credit DISAPPOINTING!

So, as everyone who was waiting for the Active Wear 2 to become available for pre-order so they could use their Note 10 credit has already found out.............that credit will not work on the new watch. A call to Samsung resulted in their usual shell game explanation that the watch was not available when the promo code was generated, so sorry you're just out of luck. Oh well, guess I'll just stick with my Moto 360's for as long as they hold out.

I guess I'm lost. I look go to the SHOP app through the phone, found the AW2 (added the free wireless charger), and proceeded to Pre-Order.
Once on the Pre-Order page I pulled out my S-Pen and select "Have a promo or referral code?" A popup appears and I can enter my code there.
Now I'm not going to pre-order that watch but that should work. You might possibly have to ditch the free wireless charger as Samsung does not allow multiple discounts at once.

Still nothing, there is no promo code for rewards. They have a separate page for redeeming rewards where they show a limited number of items that you can "buy" for your points if you like those. No possibility to redeem in similar way as 'credit bonus' money. My bonus went into watch($150 + $200 out of my pocket) and I bought for $50 the S-cover.(reservation bonus) I tried to get that USB/headphone adapter for the points. That's OK, still have a few months to decide what to do with my $16 in points.
wait.. what samsung reward are we referring here?
I picked the items I wanted and then went to check out and then used the redeem option and it applied it to my order.
I got the 45W charger, galaxy buds, and the flip cover. I even used my Samsung points I saved up where the whole order I paid $2.13 for all of it.

I think it's a one time use code as well which sucks. If you dont use it all in one shot you lose whatever balance is left. I did it the 2nd way I suggested when I got the credit. I added the dongle and a 10,000mah battery pack to my cart in the Samsung Shop app and went back to my email. I then opened the link from the $150 credit email and got the kit that included the dual charger and another 10,000 mah battery pack. The dongle and other battery pack were in the cart still so I went to check out and it added the code for me since I used the email link I'm guessing. It's a bit confusing and if you contact Samsung support( a waste of time btw) they tell you the dongle isnt a part of the promotion. I wanted a blue S Pen for my Black Note 10 but they didnt have any.

Back with samsung

Hey folks. I just recently switched from oneplus to samsung. Haven't used a samsung device since the galaxy s5 with the bootloader unlock exploit.
Used LG for a while, then tried out the oneplus 8pro which is now at the repair center. I picked up what was advertised as an open box galaxy s20 + 5g (986u1) device.
After I powered it on, and set it up, I went to activate developer options and found that they were already on. Does that sound right that dev options would already be turned on if it was a new unused device?
Thanks.

Appreciate that. I found it interesting, and bit concerning that a brand new device would have developer settings activated. I purchased from an ebay seller. Based on their high approval scores, I felt pretty safe. I'll probably question them about it. Thankfully, everything on the phone seems to be working well. Peace.

You could reflash it to make sure there's no possibility of a rootkit. Probably just a goofball tech...

Thanks.

From what you've shared it sounds like you're in the clear. "Open Box" offerings always give me pause since sellers rarely post why the item was unsealed. At times sellers declare they only opened the item for testing but unless the offer is at a considerable discount below a comparable new, sealed unit and listed by a reputable seller with a fair return policy I'd avoid it.
I recently purchased a Dell XPS laptop on ebay from a dealer specializing in refurbished units. The listing reflected the item as "new". Before confirming the order I reached out and asked is the laptop factually new, has it ever been used? The seller replied "It's new to us"? WTF does that mean? lol!

Wow!

Do I need to UnRoot my FTV 1 to trade it in ? Finally time for a full on upgrade...

So I think I should get a FTV Stick 4K Max. Mostly for the latest Bluetooth options available on them. I would like to trade in both my working Rooted Bootloader unlocked FireTV 1 devices for the 20% discount before the next 4K Max sale. But I am not sure if I should try the trade in process by sending in my TWRP rooted device as is (boots fine & used them as my current daily devices) or if anybody has yet to successfully unroot a TWRP flash FireTV 1 device ? Any guidance would be appreciated.
Also, how long do they give you to use the 20% discount ? Can you do two trades around the same time to get the discount on two new devices. Any info about how your trades went are appreciated.

Since the trade-in accepts also broken devices without a remote and other stuff, I guess it's too much of a hassle to do the unroot first...
Did the trade-in some time ago, also a bueller box, three bucks and 20% off for 'new' 4k devices (back then this was the cube and 4k-max). The whole process took ages, best is if you start the trade-in about 1,5 to 2 weeks infront of the sale...

No need to unroot before trading it in. Just make sure you wipe your data and you'll be good to go.
I don't know if you can have 2 active trade-ins at the same time, but I wouldn't risk it. I wouldn't do the second trade in until after you make the first purchase using the first trade in.
Some people get instant trade in credit, meaning you can use the discount immediately and mail the device after. There's no way to know if you'll get that until you fill out the trade in request.
Lastly, I'm expecting a new Cube to be released around October, if that changes your plans.

Good to know. Right now it shows they are still offering the same $3 + 20% off discount on a accepted working device. I plan to just send the device & remote. Do they require the power cord too ?? Amazon chat said two trade-in's should be fine around the same time. But not sure I trust them. I did copy over the chat incase I decide to do two close to the same time.
Maybe if the New Cube upped the storage to 32GB or above it might make a difference. I doubt most of the other specs will really get an increase. The RAM will probably still be @ 2MB. I actually own two FireTV 4K Sticks which I think are still on rootable FW. But they don't seem to be any hints of those ever getting the FireOS 7 update. Which is what I need to make my Bluetooth usage much simpler.
Does Amazon has Labor Day sales or ? Trying to do the trade in 3 weeks before the next possible sale.
Thanks for the quick reply...

Good to know. Thanks for the info. Do you remember if they asked for the power cord too or just the remote & box ??
It is still going for the same rate. $3 + 20% discount. Was told one can do more then one at time by Amazon chat but not sure I trust it. They where not sure how long they give you to use the % off credit. Wonder if there are labor day sales by Amazon or not.

There should be two questions about the condition and the parts at the trade-in page right after you've selected the fireTV model... I would select working condition = yes and accessories = no.

In my country it doesn't make any difference, all possible answers get the same discount, so I guess you can ship only the box in (like I did) and it will be fine.
I bet that the discount thing will not work (to buy two new fireTV devices), if you trade-in two old devices at the same time... maybe it's better to use two accounts.

I think the cube isn't worth the price.

Afaik the discount only works for 4 weeks or so, after the trade-in confirmation.
In my case the whole trade-in thing with shipping and confirmation took almost 2 weeks.
I guess 14 days infront a sale will be fine, if not you can annoy the support chat, they can give a discount too.
