settings.apk file for rooted aftv2 - Fire TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I must say I prefer having no keyboard (null keyboard) as opposed to the pop-up keyboard. is there a working settings.apk file working for a rooted 2ndgenfiretv? is there an xml file I can edit? I know I should wait for twrp but I cant stand that dam pop-up since I have a k400r keyboard.

Here are all related files (I think). These files are from stock 2.3.4 rom which comes with VipMobile phones.
Swype seem to works fine, but Samsung keyboard doesn't. Can anyone help porting this keyboard to work with 2.3.5 ?
I tried copying files, but seems that don't work (Samsung Keyboard disappears)

Stock sms app + strip unicode?

I was just wondering if there is a modified stock sms app that can be used on the stock rom like the one that comes with cm10 for example, that has a few extra features, like the strip unicode (or extra characters) feature?
Thanks guys

Same question here. I've read that there was a way to do it on Sony xperia by editing a value in a config file. Maybe it's also possible on our beloved nexus

Yeah, that would be fantastic if anybody has any tips on how to do it
Here's the apk from the latest CM nightly.
You can also extract it yourself by downloading a nightly and going to /system/app/Mms.apk
I made a backup of the old MMS with titanium and installed the new one and everything seems to be working fine.

You don't install it, you literally just drop the mms.apk it into /system/app/ folder from a file browser that has root access
Just rename the existing mms.apk file to something like mms.apk.bak to make a backup. Reboot and it should work

Also change the permissions and if you have an mms.odex file, rename that file as well.
What does strip unicode do exactly? I've always seen the option but I've never known what it does.

In certain languages you have extra characters that don't exist in English (specifically, in the Balkan languages you have č, ć, ž, š, đ).
If you type one of these characters in an sms, since they are not standard characters, they use more space in the message (some kind of invisible code for each of the characters I guess to be able to show them probably) so that you don't have 160 characters available but maybe only 50 or 60.
Strip Unicode removes these special characters if you type it in the sms app (for example I use Swype so I write with the special characters) and converts them to standard characters (š to s, đ to dj, č to c, č to c and ž to z).

In my case, I do have an odex file. So, I just rename the mms.apk and mms.odex file and drop this apk the appropriate folder and I am good to go?

Thanks for your answer , but I don't know what is the keyboard file and how to install, it is so sad...
Find a system dump, extract the keyboard.apk and push to /system/app with rw-r--r-- permissions.

textinput-tng.apk, if I am not mistaken, is the file you should be looking for.

stock kk 4.4.2 Dialer with google dialer icon

paste this apk in /system and set permissions rw-r-r with root explorer or similar then cut and paste in priv-app/ replacing-it or flash in recovery
Thanks for the apk! One request, can you give us your launcher, please?
Works good. Always loved that icon.
Works?
I downloaded the flashable zip, and it seemed to install correctly. The original phone app has been replaced, and the icon has changed. So, I assume it has installed.
Does the business search work however? It may be my phone or location, but typing in pizza hut or the local bank comes up with nothing...
Thanks anyway, because at least I get the nice blue flat icon

No it's only the icon from Google dialer the rest is moto g stock dialer
Thanks mate! Saved me the trouble of decompiling and recompiling. :highfive:
Simply by using Nova Launcher you can have that icon aswell and I suspect other launchers might do the job too.
Nice! Can you change the icon for the Contact (People) to be more rounded like others apps on hotseat?
<DELETED>
4.4.4?
Any chance of a version for 4.4.4? Presume this one is incompatible, reluctant to try it as I know the dialers are slightly different in the two builds. Thanks in advance!

Hi im new to this stuff. I get the first part but could u explain 'cut and paste in priv-app/ replacing-it or flash in recovery'. And do i have to unzip both of them before placing?
If you directly replace that apk in system/priv- app/ with default permissions will get you s system force close pop-up, so first paste in /system, change permissions and move in system/priv-app replacing the existing one
