VPN Software for Android

Hello, I apologize if this thread has been created, but I cannot find anything searching "vpn" in this forum since its only 3 chars long.
I would like to connect my G2 to my work's intranet via VPN. I can successfully do so via the built in options under Wireless & Networks option. However I have slight inconveniences with that option.
#1 DNS does not work. I cannot resolve any internal IPs once connected to the VPN which makes the VPN connection useless unless I memorize all the IPs. I manually set the DNS Search Domains option in the VPS settings, but I am still connected to some other DNS server according to IPDroid app.
#2 No password remembering. I dislike having to open up the keyboard to type the password.
Is there a market app that will satisfy my above 2 requirements while doing everything the stock option will allow?
Not out there yet...

VPN Connection Troubles

I have the following phone & setup:
Verizon Stock DINC - Android 2.2 - No Root
For the life of me I can't get my VPN Service to work on my phone. I use vpn.ipredator.se as my VPN provider. I can set everything up & connect to the VPN server. But when I try to browse regular internet pages it takes forever & doesn't work. I've tried adding a few different DNS servers, but nothing.
Do I need root permissions or a certain program to actually get VPN to work? Is there an alternative VPN service that you have successfully used on an unrooted DINC?
android vpn 2.2
Please note that these instructions are for the "HTC Desire" other Smartphone models may vary slightly.
From the Home screen, press the menu button
Select the options in the record again
Select Wireless and Networking
Select the VPN configuration
Select Add VPN
Select Add to PPTP VPN
Click on the name of VPN and describe it as "VPN" and click OK.
Click "Set the VPN server" enter the server name or IP address of the VPN server, for example, vpn.server.com
Make sure the "Enable encryption" is checked.
Then press the Back button to return to the display settings "VPN"
Find you’re VPN, you just created in the list, then press and hold, a new menu appears
The new menu will be an option "Connect to the network to" use this.
If you have not set up a VPN before you will be asked to create a passphrase of storing credentials. If you have a memory set credentials before just enter your password and then click OK.
Now a new screen will display the Connect "to <network name here> "Enter username and password for your VPN connection, then click" Connect”
You are now back in "VPN Settings" screen, you will notice that under his name will be displayed VPN "connection" after a few seconds this should change to "Connected"
I can enter all my details & even connect to my VPN. When I connect it doesn't let me browse sites. It's connected, but not working.
On another note I was researching VPN's. Seems that some work with Mobile Phones & others don't. Tonight I'm going to try HideMyAss and see if it allows me to browse the web on my phone.
Verizon Stock DINC - Android 2.2
Eken M001 Tablet - Android 2.0
Seems I fixed it by using HideMyAss as my vpn provider. Nice! Especially since the new ISP sleuthing rules have been approved.

[Q] Error on Fire tv running certain apps

Hello everyone....I am running pre-rooted version 51.1.40.0_user_514006420 on the Fire tv. While running certain apps like Rdio, Hotlist Internet TV & allrecipes, I get the following error:
"A secure connection is recommended to use this app. we were unable to establish a secure connection and recommend that you try again later. "
No matter how many times I try running the app again, I keep getting same error message.
Any ideas on what could be causing this issue and what would be solution?
PS; Fire tv is connected to the US VPN with PIA.
I don´t know these apps but probably they request https:// connections instead of http:// and maybe your VPN doesn't support https (HTTP Secure) or it needs to be enabled at first.
Also, it could be that the apps do not allow a VPN connection. Lot of sites and apps are no longer allowing users to use VPN connections to visit their site or use their apps. One the site detects you are using a VPN thy will stop you from entering.
To check if your VPN supports https:// if you have a browser just o to google.com, then look in the address bar and if the address starts with https:// you will know if thats the problem. Google addresses will always start with https:// unless your VPN does not support it or if you have https:// turned off somehow.

How do I confirm external IP address on Kodi/2nd Gen Fire TV?

Hi there,
I have the AFTV Gen 2 running latest OS.
I have setup an OpenVPN VPN "Router-on-a-stick" on a "spare" Raspberry Pi I had lying around.
This is successfully using my PIA VPN login credentials to provide a alternative external IP..
I have pointed the FireTv gateway config away from my default router gateway, to my new RPi VPN 'router'.
Both the FireOS and Kodi still continue to work, but there does not seem to be a way to check that the Kodi load is using the correct/new (VPN) external IP address.
Note: I have checked this with my PC and the RPi definitely provides a switched IP.
So how can I check what the external IP address of the FireTV/Kodi setup is?
Many thanks in advance.
Do you have ES File Explorer installed? You can use the web function (in the Favourite tab) to access Google and search for 'What's my IP address' there. Alternatively, I use a simple 'Whats My IP' app to launch and confirm IP address. There are many available to download on Aptoide. When this shows that the correct IP address is working, Kodi always seems to use that web pathway/route.

Click to collapse
That's great - thanks. Have used google via ES File explorer and its confirmed the IP is as I hoped.
Excuse my ignorance but how do it get Aptoide - its a android app repository , yes?
Good stuff, glad it worked! Yeah, Aptoide is an Android app repository that works on non-rooted Fire TV (unlike Google Play Store). I'm not sure how others view it but I find it pretty good. The odd app download does come with annoying pop-up adds and, in that case, I undelete app (clean up with CCleaner) and then reinstall from another provider in Aptoide. Here is a link to the What's My IP app I use: http://m.sebastianvelmont.store.apt...git.WhatIsMyIp/7/3090847/What's+my+IP+Address
Make sure you close the app and clear its cache each time, otherwise it sticks to the first IP address it found. There might be better ones that refresh automatically?
To install, I have Aptoide loaded on my Fire TV first (via loading Aptoide apk file from ES Explorer) and then search for app in search bar. Saying that it might be better to find the apk from elsewhere but I like checking Aptoide occasionally on Fire TV to see what apps it recommends to update on my system etc.

Possible to auto-connect to hotspots?

Hi everyone,
I am currently away on business and will be for a few more weeks. Unfortunately I do not have proper mobile in my apartment but can use a Telekom hotspot for free.
The downside being that I have to enter my username and password every single time. Is there a way to automatically connect and log in or store the info in the fire tv?
On my notebook I simply stored the user/pass in firefox. But the firetv always opens it's own hotspot login page. Any ideas would be really appreciated
