Boot Up Time Question - MTCB Android Head Units Q&A

Tried searching, but not finding what I'm looking for.
I'm looking at a Pumpkin or Joying unit, but open to suggestions.
Do these units need to boot up every time I turn on the key?
If so, how long is the bootup?
Are there any mods, like a battery backup that will allow instant on?
What does MTCB stand for?
I currently have Dashlinq 4 which has instant power on, but it is slow and the hardware is failing, so I'm looking for an upgrade.
Appreciate your responses!

Cold boot time is about 30 seconds. Head unit can be set with up to a two hour standby time. If car is restarted in that time frame, head unit will be instant on

Its in the settings, extra settings default is like 30 seconds you can go up to 2 hr

Ive seen between 35-45 seconds w/ the joying and pumpkin. My current joying is 43 seconds, I've timed about 6 joying/pumpkin units.
Dave

one of the companies claimed they cut the boot time down to like 15 seconds or something, maybe in-dash? but that super long thread is less than promising

An octocore maybe.

[Q] desire just let me down big time - gps?

was trying to walk to the shops and record the walk (my tracks) and listen to some music on the way. was about a 15 min walk all in al. during this time i lost 14% battery life.
gps wouldn't lock on, which means it's constantly searching., i was waiting for a lock whiich means the screens all the whole time. the sun comes out which means i turn the screen brightness on max.
this sucks. i've had probs with the desires gps in the past but nowhere this bad.
now, is there a site that will review the gps aspect of smartphones? i mean, i presume a lot of us have android phones for the free satnav, google maps etc? without a great gps system in the phone then all of those things are useless. this is why i will never get a samsung phone.
i think next time, the gps of the phone will be the deciding factor. i'm using this far more than i thought i ever would.
I also had problems with gps.
Try to pull out battery, left phone without it for about 5 minutes. Next go out and get lock via using maps (and don't move, stay in place after turning on gps). It may take some time (some people reported that it took about 20min, I was waiting about 5). Now gps works like charm.

What ROM and radio are you using? I have noticed that any radio older than the latest one with HD ROMs tend to give bad GPS performance. In the past I've let My Tracks run for over 3 hours and it tracked my movements fine, in those 3 hours I was in a building for about 30 minutes and it lost its battery fastest in those 30 minutes presumably trying to find a fix. Honestly Desire is the best GPS unit I've ever had, it is better than one of the older dedicated navigation unit I had.
I agree re GPS. I drove for 2hours using my GPS without a car charger and I lost 80% of my battery in that time. I realise now that any trip using navigation has to be plugged to car charger or very selective use of GPS.

So your phone can navigate you on a full charge more than your car can drive on a full tank and you complain about the phone??? WTF! People really have strange / unrealistic expectations...

You should stop driving like a mental. it is realistic for a tank of gas to last more than two hours.

Were you using Google Locations + Screen on? If so I'm not surprised.
Any GPS navigation I came across was always using the CPU a lot hence the fast battery drain.
If GPS does not want to lock it needs a cold restart- using GPS Tools. Alternatively restarting the phone will do the same. I found that the GPS tends not to lock in urban areas but restarting the phone always helped- for the day.

What do you drive? a space shuttle?!
@op : the battery drain is not only normal, its actually good..my sister's ip3gs can't even get her through 1 hour of naigation..my revious hd2 gave me low battery warning around an hour and 20 minutes (but that had the huge screen to blame for that)..you can very cheaply get a car charger and even get free screen protectors as gift from amazon or ebay..
'normal' is as far as HTC / android phones are concern.. it seems that in car charger is a must.
in contrast, the nokia E52 i have, lasted at least 5 to 6 hours navigation at the very least, with screen on always..
Using your phone as a gps in the car will drain the battery but not because of the gps but because you have a 3.7 inch screen on all the time, and if during the day, at full brightness. I think a couple of hours in those conditions for any phone with a large quality screen is more than reasonable!!
I use "cardio trainer" to track my runs when i go out, i tracks me all the way without a hickup and i am listening to musing all the time as well and in 1h it will only go down 10% so gps doesn't drain battery it's the screen.
Sometimes when i go out i also have problems getting a fix but it's just a question of closing "cardio trainer" turning gps off then on again, wait 5 seconds and then turn "cardio trainer" back on; works every time!!!!! Desire has a really good gps!!
PS: i'm on stock unbranded froyo

u comparing oranges to uhmm..water mellon powered nuclear reactors lol...nokia e52 has a lousy 2.4 inch display..so right off the bat desire has +50% + larger screen surface...plus navigating by watching a screen THAT small is truly dangerous as well..
I've had different experiences with the GPS in my Desire. It was able to lock my position when travelling in a train going 180km/h, on a rainy day (no visible sky at all) in Google Maps (that dot was moving FAST! ).
But sometimes it fails completely to lock my position, and this has happened on both days with completely clear sky and cloudy days. But it usually works. Restarting the device helps.

I had similar GPS issues with my Desire, couldn't get a fix at all / waited around 30 mins on couple of occasions. Then I tried this gps assist app, works similar to the one I had on my touch HD / winmo.
Now I get a fix with iGo in a 2-3 seconds
The app name is GPS status and toolbox

Dead moto360

Hi there
I purchased a moto360 in the USA whilst on holiday. It has been working perfectly fine for the last month. Two days ago the battery died and it will now not turn on.
The charging indicator light comes on when it is on the dock however that is all. There seems to be no way to get it booted (holding for 25sec + etc)
Any idea what I can do here?
Have you left it on the dock for 10-15 mins and seen what happens?
yes- i have left it overnight
tried everything
Press the button for 1 minute.

Same thing here
I have the same situation for 12 days.
I leave charging on the original charger and on the qi charger of galaxy s4 for 15 min, 30 min, 1 hour, 2 hour, 3 hours, 24 hours and nothing.
Also, I had pressed and hold the power button for 3s, 30s, 45, 1 min, 2 min and 3 minutes and still nothing.
I´ve my watch since last Friday and it seemed to be dead EVERY DAY at least once but i got i back booting. On Monday i started a chat with Motorola. They said, I should hold the button for about a minute, but nothing happend. Then they said, I have to write Amazon (I bought the watch from Amazon). Amazon offered me, to replace my watch, but i have to wait at least 1-2 months again. So i said no and managed to boot it up by myself after 3 hours of waiting. However, by now i am very disappointed from the watch. BTW: Mine is also dead again at the moment.
Try to put it on the dock and press the button at the same time. Worked twice for me.
Edit: Booted up after 2 h
Yeah, the same thing happened to mine. I've tried holding the power button for up to 5 minutes, and still nothing. I'm calling Motorola today to see what the issue is.
I've tried it all too - still have a pretty paper weight
I'm trying to go through Moto Support which is proving very difficult
If anyone has a solution etc please post - my issue is i bought when OS on holidays - no support here in OZ
I just got done talking to Motorola. It seems this is a fairly common occurrence as one of the first things I was asked was if my moto 360 turned on. They made me hold the power button for like 2 minutes, and when that didn't work, they were happy to replace it for free. Hopefully their support is as easy for other people. :good:

Motorola Support has a chat service. It's never taken me more than 3 or 4 minutes to connect to them that way.
I bought in NY 15 days ago during vacations, and now i've returned to Brazil.
I've tryed everything i read and nothing happened .
Basically, i'm ****ed.

I mean you could send it to someone in the US and get them to replace it for you if you know anybody you can trust not to steal it. Other than that, I'm not sure.

Any quad-core headunit without a startup delay?

I had an AutoPumpkin RK3188 in my last car that I recently sold. I loved the HU, but I could not stand the 30-second startup time. An aftermarket radio should be like the stock one, instant-on.
The last time I *****ed on here about it, I was told "well, that's a normal amount of time for an Android device to boot." I call BS that the head unit should have to 'boot' at all, except when power is first applied. I can put my phone, with a tiny battery, on standby and get 7+ days of standby time, and still get instant-on as soon as I press the power button. With a car battery to draw on, the Android units should be able to go into low power for months without draining the battery. It's just a matter of turning off all the accessories like amplifiers and radios when the unit stands-by (say, by internally powering them from the ignition line instead of the always-hot line, or via a relay triggered by the ign).
So, has any manufacturer gotten to the point where the Android standby mode is properly implemented, and turning on the key brings the unit out of standby immediately? I've been looking through some threads and it looks like it's more of the same, even here nearly a year later.
Lol. My initial reaction is what you were told last time.

Joying: screen issue after only 6 months

I've had the joying quad core RK3188 unit for about 6 months now. The screen is crapping out on me all of a sudden.
It started by a little screen tearing for about 15 seconds when the unit powered up. Now, the display is mirrored for about one minute when I power it up, and then it tears for about 30 seconds. After that, the screen is normal.
The mirrored screen and screen tearing is getting progressively longer. I have no idea what could cause this. Bad graphics card? Bad LCD screen?
Has anyone ever seen anything like this?
I've tried to contact joying but he isn't responding. Is he still answering questions?

Do you still have warranty? It could be a series of issues, but most likely the Gpu. Although It might be expensive to ship the device back to manufacturer, I doubt you could find replacement parts localy. So you should restore the stock rom and contact the seller for waranty.
Probably just the screen's ribbon cable contacts. Open it up and fiddle with the wires.
Hi
I have same screen mirrored issue. It started this morning and just worked fine some minutes since then.
Did you find any solution for this?
The warranty is over, i wrote Joying to request them a solution, let´s wait if they have one. If not i´ll open it and try to fix anyway.
Maybe cables are bad or i don´t know.
Unit is just 1 year and 3 months old.
Regards.

Question Wireless Android Auto DESTROYS the battery, anyone else seen this?

I don't understand why it's so hard on the battery.
It is bad. I guess because it's projecting your phone's screen while still using the phone? Definitely make sure it's set to optimized in battery. I had it set to unrestricted on my 4xl because it would take forever to start, and it was always running. I had to charge my phone a second time during the day. Didn't realize that was the problem until I got my 6 pro. I'm still getting a full day on one charge on my 6 pro though.
I look forward to one day having a vehicle with a factory head unit that supports wireless Android Auto. For short trips, makes sense. For longer trips, I'd probably want to plug it in, anyway.
