It is a screen burn ,i have tried to solve problem with Screen Burn-in Tool app from Play Store
but no success, this problem have also few my friends with lg g4,i newer buy any lg phone again, lg is better to produce tv sets and wasmachines because as phone manufactures sucks.

Same issue here too, it isn't necessarily burn in, more image retention I guess which tends to happen to some LCD's, tried all sorts of things to fix it, if anyone knows how to fix this that would be awesome
Guess we'll have to either get the device replaced or replace the LCD

If it's retention the LCD won't have to be replaced. Just wait a little, and it's gone.

And it inst always there, it knows to disaper.
And one more thing, it constantly changin, for example now i see 12:30, and for 2 minutes i will see 12:32, not one picture burned in.
Sorry for my English, i hop you will understand what i trying to say.

Its pretty bad retention if thats the case, not permanent...only really see it on grayish backgrounds....Ive left the phone off for days...switched it back on and within a matter of minutes my status bar is burned in lol

Same problem here pink burn that appears only on gray with a few minutes of use.
I was wondering if its just my device or not.
And now that i know that is the case i guess switching the phone display will not solve it.

I am getting this issue as well. Pinkish tint (when there is a light grey background) and image retention on the top of the screen and I can see those little icons. Did you get the problem after motherboard replacement due to bootloop issue? I am regretting my decision in purchasing LG G4.. :crying:

It is the display, friend of mine replaced his and he no longer had this issue.
I think he ordered a $70 USD replacement off Amazon and did it himself since LG requested for him to send the phone to Taiwan.

To be honest it does not really bother me,the only thing is that i can not put a gray wallpaper :/.
And when you mention this i think it actually started only after i got my motherboard replaced because of the bootloop but i might just did not notice until than..
And no regreting is needed alot of people that i know with s6 are not so happy about it..and the only other option was m9...so.....if you like me and had no choice the g4 was the smartest choice lol and i am quite happy with it...

Well i was talking about that, if you would give your phone to lg they will replace with the same display..so i dont see the point...
And the replacement displays you cant tell how are they as in brightness battery drain and color accuracy...
I guess if it will get worse than i will probably replace it..for now its fine enough lol

Meh...it's really not a huge problem lol, it grew on me after some time and it doesn't bother me anymore
Hasn't gotten worse over the past 6-ish months or so, so I guess it'll stay this way
I'm from Jamaica so sending it to Taiwan is going to be a bit of a problem
But as for the replacement part, I definitely get what you're saying, I asked my friend about his for the purpose of this thread and he told me that the battery life is the same, brightness/quality is similar to the original display, worse case scenario if you need to change the screen I'd say go for it.

I have found a some kind temporary workaround ( i don't know is that correct language expression in english so sorry for that )
Mainly here is what I did : I have flash latest SUPERXE kernel for stock rom android 6.0 from here , after flash from Play Store I have installed app Kernel Adiutor ,from the drop-down menu selected Screen section and aply this settings :
RED=230
GREEN=235
BLUE=235
Minimum RGB Value=35
Saturation Intensity= 30
Screen Hue=0
Screen Value= 125
Screen Contrast=127
After this no more red colored retention on gray background, not even in TWRP recovery.
This solution is only for rooted devices with unlocked bootloader,I hope this will help You
After kernel installation i have run few times antutu benchmark,so maybe this is also have influence on screen refresh.

This worked for me, too Thanks for sharing.
Anyway I will try warranty soon.

Dear guys, 12/2015 I have same issue that burning, my local warranty service ok change a new LCD, it is very OK after replacement, no burn any more. But after 6 months the same issue come back, it is hardware issue. LG always have issue about hardware in flagship more than other competitor.

Not a G4 owner but I have used a G4 before as well as a V10 and a G5, currently own the V10. This issue is present on all three devices and isn't a question of if it will happen, it's a matter of when it will happen. I noticed this issue with my display a few months ago and the entire affected area has a weird yellowish hue to it which is most noticeable on a lighter grey hue and as of now have grown used to it to a degree: still annoys me a bit. Also had a friend whom I recommended the G4 to and he had this issue with retention since he got it though he barely notices it since his phone is almost always set at 0% brightness
Anyways, at this point the main cause for this as I've said in a couple of threads is the display technology itself. I'm guessing this is one of the side effects Quantum Display has for offering near-amoled quality with vivid colors and blacks in comparison to regular LCD panels. Basically, even replacing the display is a temporary issue and still a lottery as you may get one with no issues until a year later or one that already has retention out of the box.
At this point, I might even tolerate amoled displays or non-Quantum Display lcd panels but it's too bad LG makes great phones. Oh well, just another thing to keep in mind when getting a phone from LG

I started getting this burn in and i am 95% sure that it didn't happen before. My G4 was in bootloop so i sent it back and i think that they replaced motherboard. After about 2 months of usage i started noticing this and as i said i am 95% sure that it didn't happen before motherboard was replaced, only if i didn't realise that but i am sure there was not this problem. :/ :/ :/ Is it actually possible that it is coz of motherboard replacement and that it can't be fixed even if i replace screen?!?! ((

It's not a motherboard issue but a display issue. With the G4, V10, and G5, there will be displays that will have retention out of the box or in a matter of a few months and then those who don't get it until 2 years into use or in fact, never at all. Only solution is replacing the display but that's a bit of a lottery in it of itself as you don't know if it won't have its own issues and I'd imagine constantly buying new LCD digitizers to grow costly that you might as well just buy a new phone altogether.

Bluelight Filter
Try " Bluelight Filter " app from Google store , I had the same problem until I used the app .

I played this "game" a few weeks ago. I also live outside the US, so I had to send it back for repair, due to a speaker problem (the speaker was 'crackling') and no firm in europe could fix it.. They were the worst weeks of my summer,it took almost 2 months to get my phone back, but I dont have any issues with the phone since then. Hope youll have more luck, 2 months were really too much.

I'm seeing something similar but It's not always there, only shows up occasionally when the screen goes off and I wake it, started happening using liteROM
It's not a "stuck pixel". AMOLEDs can have dead pixels at worst (and it's MUCH rarer than in LCDs and usually it's only one color that doesn't respond). There's some deeper issue. Take a screenshot and see if it shows up there -- that'll tell us if it's in software or hardware.

[Q] Screen Colour Calibration H815

Hi all, i bought an LG G4 last week that im incidentally having to send back to my network provider as for some reason theyre sending me out a new one due to a conplication with my contract plan.
Anyway, the new device arrived today so i was transferring stuff across from the old G4 and ive noticed a huge difference in the colour calibration on the screen. Here's a picture of how different the screens look:
https://goo.gl/photos/wNuCWmeNq24dsbtn7
The phone on top is my old phone and the one below is new
Does anyone know why they look so different and if there's any way to change it?
which one is the new one?
Mmm.. The oldest one has a brighter stripe near the top bezel?

Same issue with me... Ended up having 2 phones in my possession due to a bad sdcard slot. One phone had a yellowish tint. Ended up being the one with the good sdcard so I swapped logic boards and kept the better screen.

This is the QHD demo file in the stock video player, right? Press the 3dot menu and change brightness under settings, the stock video app has a locked brightness slider that has another setting than the system brightness. That was the problem on my G4.
Yeah it is, I noticed a slight variation in screen temp in other apps too but it was most noticeable in this.
Thankfully the quality of the new screen is still great and when the phones aren't compared side by side, it doesn't prove to be much of an issue.
Thanks for your help everyone

New HTC 10 Owner looking for issues

Hello HTC fans,
I am gonna receive my HTC 10 tomorrow and I would like to immediately look for HW failures/defects, etc. to see if I have a faulty device.
My Question is., what should I check?
- dead pixels
- Speaker issues (I dont know what to check exactly)
- Microphone issues ( how to test?
- What else?
Can you please help me out?
Thanks in advance
Take it out of the box, put it on the charger. Make sure it charges to 100 percent, then use it.

That was quite obvious, I just thought there are "bad-batches" but if theres nothing like that (like it was with the m7 series) I am not worried
Get it out of the box, look if your display has a red tint, if it has a red tint install Dev Check and look which display is build in (Sharp or Tianma). If it is a Sharp display and hast red tint return it, if it's a Tianma display the red tint seems to go away after some days/weeks of usage.

Exactly no reason to worry about maybe having a bad unit before you even get it. Yes there will be a bad phone here and there. Be more excited you are getting a new phone!
The first thing to do is run the diagnostics. To do this, run the Help app. On the Help screen menu tap 'Troubleshooting' or 'Diagnostics tools' to use a troubleshooting wizard to check the basic hardware functions (alternatively, dial *#*#3424#*#*).
I found red tint on my phone at the bottom of my screen which didn't disappear after 3 weeks. In the end i got rid my phone as that tint was doing my head in.

Yes had that option but I chose not to replace it as I prefer bigger screen. I thought I could live with smaller screen but clearly not. If it was 5.5 then I would have stuck with it definitely.

Personally, I'd rather just return it and get a new one if it's within the first 30 days. Seems like more of a hassle to get repaired or possibly sent a refurb in exchange.

Screen ghosting LG G4

Hey guys,
Yesterday I noticed some screen ghosting on my LG g4 on the top right where the battery icon, signal status etc are. I turned it off for 6 hours and noticed it got slightly better then i used an app which stimulates all the pixels on the screen for about 8 hours by flashing different colours. After this all ghosting went away but after i used my phone for about 2 minutes it made a new ghost. Please help me fix this permanently. I am currently using the same app with the intention of keeping it on for a full day.

Honestly LG has given me the worst android experience to date. Had the damn phone for 3 months an it was the taiwanese g4 which has no way to unlock its bootloader. The worst part is that the screen ghosting came up on the same day i decided to sell it and buy a oneplus 3 instead. Now i wont be able to sell it for a good price and that means i can't afford the oneplus. Never buying from LG again.

I understand exactly what you mean.
i have it also and it's ANNOYING as hell!!! I returned mine 2 weeks ago not only because of this but also because i cannot see nor connect to a 5 GHz Wi-Fi network.
Just 2 months prior top this the phone killed itself (not even 1 year old) and had to get a new PCB. LG if you are reading this, i want my money back.
Note to the people, please don't buy LG crap!
LG G4 bootloop
The bootloop - problem on all the LG phones from the main series is caused due to a less safety check in fabric and causes cause the processor releases from the mainboard during heat, mechanical load etc and the connections were broken! To fix, the processor have to pushed back on the mainboard with heat - I think a hair dryer is a good way to do that
If there are any other problems with the CPU itself - I don't know but sometimes the processor itself can be partially damaged
I've even a G4 which has stoped working on June.04.'17 and I'll try to apply this step in a professional environment. (you've to fully open it, put a hair dryer on the processor, heat the processor and push it down on the mainboard) The best video on yt to do that: search for "LG G4 BOOTLOOP FIX REPAIR VIDEO"
>>By holding the vol+ -key and plug in the USB-cable it bootet once... ..and works... ..but then heats up! - That might work for quick saving data on the PC!<<
I hope that could help!

Screen retention fix supposedly on the way

I chatted with a oneplus agent. Long story shot I asked if the retention issue was software or hardware. According to this agent she spoke with the technical team and they're working on a software fix so according to OnePlus it is indeed a software issue. Figured I'd throw this out there for anyone plagued with the same issue. I didn't ask about the black bar cause I only see it below 15 percent brightness and I never have the screen that low.
OP agents don't know what they're talking about. Different agents say different things, and of course they're going to deny that it's a hardware fault because then they'd lose money.

To further explain a lot of people have been suffering with the image retention/ghosting issue as well as the black bar in the status bar. I asked a OnePlus agent if this issue was hardware or software and supposedly according to OnePlus it's software and should be fixed in the next ota. I'm hoping this is true but like the guy above you said they could be just saying that to stop people from sending their phones back for replacement/refund or repair. If this issue isn't fixed in the next ota I'm sending it in for rma to either be replaced or fixed. Either or doesn't matter to me as long as I get a fully functional display without defects.

Mine is no where near that bad. Mine is only the status bar that has image retention but I never really notice it unless I switch to a gray background and look for it and even then I can go to a white background turn up the brightness and then back to the gray with normal brightness and the retention is already gone. Even if they don't fix it with software I'll probably just keep it cause I seem to have a relatively issue free display other than the retention with the status bar icons.
So just adding an update to this post. 10.5.10 did not fix the screen retention on my OnePlus 8 pro. I ended up starting a repair rma and shipped it out with the UPS label they sent me. Hopefully they replace the screen with a non faulty one.
don't get your hopes up mine had a build date of May 28th for the new RMA 8 pro even with the new update it still has image retention

Wow that's ridiculous. I think it's time they actually address the problem of faulty displays rather than trying to mask it.
I believe its definitely screen retention issue and not burn in. I am not sure if its HW or SW issue but i made an experiment. In which i checked what icons i can see in status bar and then i changed them and i could no longer see the ones that were previously there and only the new ones. This makes me believe its a SW issue rather then HW issue.

Yes, that's perfectly calls temporary screen burn in.
It on amoles since ages.
No fix for it.
You use black theme, you don't get screen retention issue.
If you use white theme, you get it.
White color with high brightness caused this.
And it's temporary.
It's goes out if you keep screen off for specific time or change theme to black.
For me, most of issue happens on in call screen where we put call on hold etc.
There I can clearly see shades of navigation bar buttons and nav bar layout.
Also, there are few black lines / color distortion happening on lower half screen in call screen.
But it's happen only on that occasion, so I am fine with this.
Also, there is too much black crush issue when brightness at 40 % only. Not on lower, not on upper.
So, i am fine with this.
Customer clear said that it's hardware issue and I need replace screen.
But I m not going to do that because I fear I will get more bad screen than this.
I don't have any tint issue at all.
.
.
.
And, it's hardware issue, no software can fix it.
Our android already includes screen burn in protection ( slightly change position of icons pixel by pixel on status bar and nav bar)
So, it will remain same.
We all are got 3rd grade amoled panels from Samsung.
And oneplus can't do anything about it. ( they can't afford it)
For proper fix, they need to recall all devices and change panels from different vendor which is too costly and time consuming.
Also, soon there will be 8T pro. So everyone going to forget this device and it's issue.
I previously had 7T and it was having green tint issue on lowest brightness, 8 pro cause retention issue.
So, this is my last device of oneplus.
You can't get good hardware, good software and low price.
Take it or leave it.

If this issue isn't fixed in the next ota I'm sending it in for rma to either be replaced or fixed. Either or doesn't matter to me as long as I get a fully functional display without defects.

I know what you mean it's similar to burn in, id say the only way this should be considered a software issue is if the screens integral settings are pushed too high, if they're within the boundary of what's acceptable then it'll be hardware.
Personally I haven't had this issue which suggests to me that not all screens are or have been created equal, which to some degree is to be expected, even Apple has issues with their screens, as do Samsung and Sony.
Something you could try would be to alter the RGB output of your display and live with it for a while and see if it helps, essentially lower values.
If the problem is voltage/ amperage to the screen then without some tinkering you'd have to wait for a fix, I would assume they're aware of it.
Time will tell I guess.
