OTA Updates - Xperia Z5 Premium Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I bought an unlocked Z5 Premium (6883) from a Japanese vendor and live in the US using T-mobile. Would I still get any OTA updates such as Marshmallow?
Sorry if this has already been answered or if it is a dumb question, I googled it but haven't found an answer..

I bought it on eBay from someone claiming they live in the U.S. but it came from Japan. So as long as they rollout the update to Japan I should get it too?

[Q] OTA update questions

I have a factory unlocked HOX that I bought from NewEgg. The phone's default language was Taiwan English and all the packaging also matches with that, so I guess it's an Asian market device. Now, as you can probably see, I'm in Canada, on Virgin Mobile. I'm also new to Android, coming from iOS. Something I had always heard about as a negative about the Android platform was that people had to not only wait for Google to release their OS updates (eg 4.0.4), and for their device manufacturer to create their OTA update (Android 4.0.4 plus Sense 4.x I guess), but also for the carrier to roll out the updates.
So my questions are simply, "what role does the carrier have in OTA updates?", "how does this process work when you have a factory unlocked device?", and "does the fact that my carrier does not carry/officially support the HOX change anything?"
I've already received OTA updates since I got the phone, so I know they work, I'm just interested in how the whole update system works in Android, and how my OTA update availability schedule will look.
Thanks

your phone is the international unlocked version. in fact its the taiwan version which in some and most cases, gets the update before the europen and asian N HK ones. If there is an update, you would be the first to receive it.

Where to buy an offical unlocked G4 in the US?

I can't find it on LG official page. Is there an official unlocked version of the G4 available in the US? Not through carriers to receive updates directly from LG not from carriers. Preferably, with brown leather back cover. Thanks in advance!
Not sure how "official" this is but B&H Photo will have it soon http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produ...815_32gb_brown_lea_g4_h815_32gb_unlocked.html
Short answer. No. Lg told me to try Amazon when I emailed them about this a couple weeks a go. And that there was no official unlocked us version. I was told to get the 815.

Where to buy Google Pixel XL in New York

Hi,
Going to New York next week, and was wondering if anyone knows where to buy an _unlocked_ Google Pixel XL in New York?
Looks like Best Buy only sells the Pixel with subscription. Since I don't live in the US that is not an option.
Thanks
/Jo Christian

Hi,
Yes I'm aware of the differences in the radio band. But I have done some research and it does not seem to be an big issue here in Norway.

You can purchase from Best Buy without a contract. Be aware that the bootloader is unlockable if it's on 7.1.1.
And if you can find one in stock.
I'm in the same situation
Hi Jo Christian,
I'm in the same situation, I'll be for one week in NYC and I'd like to buy a Google Pixel XL 128GB, but I'm worried to don't find this device on the city when I arrive. Do you reached a solution?
Thanks

You will not find the Google version in any stores. The Verizon version will be at the Verizon stores and Best Buy. They will most probably be bootloader locked.

How Do I Update to Emui 10 in USA?

I live in USA. I'm thinking about buying back the mate 20X. If I get the L-29 version, will I be able to update to Emui 10 on it in USA? If I'm not able to, what are the steps to take to update it to 10?
The update will be pushed to the phone. Even if you live in the USA.
yeps, just a matter of time until emui 10 is available in all global regions.

I called Huawei customer service a few days ago to inquire about the update. I was told that the United States is NOT getting EMUI 10...... EVER! I hope it's not true.

the way I made it was to get an SIM of China's Carrier on ebay or borrow one from your friend. Swap the SIM and check the update, the system will do OTA in a few minutes. Do turn off the data and use Wi-Fi. I guess the trick is Huawei's OS assumes your phone are now in China or other regions, so they will push the update to your phone directly. I successfully made it on three models, P30Pro, Mate 20x, and Mate 20x 5G.

Did you get the update directly from huawei OTA without any tweaks suggested on XDA?
It doesn't matter your location as much as what region build number you have. None of these are meant for USA market. Mine is C185 and I finally received Android 10 last night.

C185 = UAE. I am located in USA and bought this off of eBay. My understanding is UAE version was going to be one of the last to get the update.

Question December security EMEA - A4

I live in the Middle East and received OTA 016.A1.
I was wondering what is the difference in A4 for EMEA, does it activate VoLTE/5G for unsupported countries or just a code name?
Thanks

Hmm I'm UK here and I manually flashed the A1 version. So I should have flashed the EMEA one??
All seems well with no issues, but if this is the case perhaps I should flash this European one

I flashed A1 at first myself and it seemed to be fine but when I noticed that A4 was for UK, IRL,FR, DE etc I went and flashed A4 to be safe. No issues as of yet.
On my pixel 6 pro 256gb from the German Google store via ota it automatically downloaded the A1 firmware ... I don't notice any kind of problem though ....
Same here.no probs with A1
I just flashing OTA A4 manually to i be in safe when i out the signal not drop
