Multitasking/RAM - Nextbit Robin

You're busy and don't have time to wait, which is why you need to stop reading this thread and get back to organizing your Pogs. Rate this thread to express how the Nextbit Robin performs when multitasking. A higher rating indicates that the Nextbit Robin keeps many apps in memory so that they don't need to reload, and that when moving between apps, transitions are smooth and performance is excellent.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!

Pretty good multitasking speed actually. That extra GB of RAM really sets it apart from 2GB phones like the 5/5x

I'm honestly not sure as I got a Robin just today (it's a great deal!), but from what I see, it used to be fairly active, but is slowly dieing. There's more and more "unofficial" ports, threads seem to be quieting down a bit, slower developments...
But then again, like I said, I'm new here, and this is just what I noticed in my brief time here.
Oh and yeah this is the wrong thread.

No, there's only one model, and the camera can record in 4K.
It defaults to recording in 1080p though.

Well, if you buy the Nextbit Robin, it comes with a USB Type-C cable, all you need is a power brick to plug into the wall. I'm just using the one I got from my old phone. Honestly I don't know how wall charging would work in the EU since I've never traveled outside the US.
Edit: As long as the charger you buy is a Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 or greater charger it will Quick Charge. Just be sure it's a certified one since there are dozens of knock offs.
Also, this will most likely not be a problem, but make sure you don't get one that uses a different Quick Charge technology like OnePlus's Dash charger.

I mean just look at the android/original android development sections they're full of recent ROMs. Development hasn't ever been this fast for the device. So to answer your question, yes it is active.

Actually, that one's perfect. Aukey is a reputable brand and their Chargers are amazing. The one you chose will definitely Quick Charge the Nextbit Robin at the maximum speed.
Also, don't forget, Quick Charge 2.0 is backwards compatible with the original QC and regular Chargers so you can charge any phone with that charger.

I've just buy my Nextebit Robin but I've read that Next support stop in February 2018 , is the warranty voided passed this date (because in EU there is a rule that obliges the seller to guarantee what he sells for 1 year)

Technically, yes, but considering in the EU you have laws that specifically grant a longer Warrenty to the buyer, I don't think it applies in that case.
There really should be something like this in the US.

[Q] Fire TV vs Mini android box/stick/dongle with RK3188/RK3288

I've searched online and haven't had much luck finding a comparison of a rooted fire TV box and the many available android HDMI sticks/dongles/boxes that are based on the RK3188/RK3288 SOC platform.
I plan on cutting the cord from my cable company next month and want the best performance and app compatibility, I've found great deals on both options, but would like some feedback about the pros and cons of each.
If anyone has any helpful insight it would be gratefully appreciated!
The stick devices have unusable wifi and Bluetooth. I used a usb to Ethernet dongle and the device is cheaply made and overheats.sits in a drawer now. Not sure of box devices. Happy with ftv for 4 months now

Yeah I know the earler versions of the sticks had wifi issues but from what I have read the latest versions have resolved all of those issues.
Apparently I can't post links yet, but if you google CS928 RK3288 you will see which box I am considering.
Agreed. Mk3s and mk4 with mk4 based on rk3188. Riko magic remote purchased too. Remote came broken and Alibaba had 3 day return policy and I went away for weekend. and rikomagic people did not answer. 3 products purchased and complete disgust with that name brand. Buyer beware
Well you know what they say... you get what you pay for. This is cheap Chinese crap made with cheap Chinese garbage processors.

Okay thanks for the info. Riko Magic is not the brand I am considering RK3188/RK3288 are made by RockChip and are just the SOC (system on a chip) component of the overall device. The box I am considering had nothing at all to do with Riko Magic.
What I am really interested in is the performance difference in the Fire TV's Qualcomm Quad Core Krait 300 CPU and the Quad-Core Cortex-A17 CPU found in the RK3288 SOC and how they perform in the Android OS environment.

I just found one for $110 (http://dealsprime.com/mini-pc/cs928-android-4-4-tv-box.html). I'm not quite sure how that's twice as much... But the statement not only applies to actual price but the fact that you are either buying a quality product from an American company or some crap slapped together by some fly by night chinese company.

Yeah I can get a Fire TV for about $55 with a coupon. I'm not really concerned about the country of origin as opposed to the performance of the components. Thanks for your opinion, but I am looking for someone who might have first hand knowledge/experience with these two exact products.

I have the CS918S set top with the built in Camera and it is a solid performer. I also have a couple UG007B that work perfect and they are half the price of the FTV.
Even with good performance they still can't compete with the hardware in the FTV.
But with the A31 and RK3188 is you can easily find or make a ROM or make your own. I have done a couple of the sticks for friends with modified boot images and deodexed rooted systems.
I bought a minix X8-H at the same time that I bought a FireTV, one box for me and one for my folks. Overall it's a very nice unit and has been rock solid, which is better then my past experiences with the chinese boxes. It's not as buttery smooth as the FTV but it's more then adequate. Having 3 USB ports and an airmouse out of the box is nice as well.
The only big gap I found between the two is that the Netflix performance on FTV is far better. Even with many tweaks I could never get HD working on the Minix. That was enough for me to go with FireTV in the end.

I tried the Keedox® M8 Amlogic S802 Quad Core Cortex A9r4 2.0GHz. On paper it looks like it should compare well and was $85 at the same time the fire TV was on sale for the same. The M8 just wasn't as smooth so I went with the fireTV and returned the M8.
Qualcomm Krait300 (snapdragon600)/Areno320 processors beat Rockchip3188/Mali400 hands down.
In 3D performance up to 3 times faster, in general use little over half as fast as the FireTV.
All the top phones and tablets are based on nextgen snapdragon 800 or sgx in different variations.
It clearly seems to be the top SoC along with SGX(or apple)/PowerVR.
It also gives most performance per watt, RockChip isent really designed the same way that's why you don't see them in phones/tablets they use more power and run hotter.
.
Btw. I tested this with a few benmarking tools such as linpack, 3dmark, etc
Another strong appeal is feel, And it's first android box i've been able to call: a firm stable android-streaming platform. Ofcause it also has a very steady background with big key players and developers.

dont have a rk3288, but i have a rk3188 (and a rk3088).. vs firetv there is no competition, firetv wins in all aspects. hopefully they made huge improvements on rk3288 but i doubt it will be worth the usual chinese problems (bad antenas, bad roms, faulty hardware, no support, misleading hardware (selling you a rk3188 but actually getting a rk3188T which is a crappier made soc) etc...)
plus the firetv is actually cheaper (guess they want to buy the market XD )

My N1 from Expansys has Build number A5FM401. Neither the tablet nor the retail box nor the packaging was shrink wrapped. Is there a reliable way to determine whether it had the TW version with Google Play straight from the factory or whether the software was altered after it left the factory?

Well, I can say that I'm quite happy with the Taiwanese N1 I bought from Expansys USA. It arrived brand-new in factory packaging and after the usual set up (plus some extra time required to get around the initial language barrier) works great...best $210 I've ever spent on an Android device.

Here's what I can tell you, from personal experience.:
• A5FM401 is the factory-installed build for Nokia's Taiwan release of the N1. Shortly after first login, the device will download several OTAs, culminating in Android 5.0.2 (A5FM51C).
• With my N1, the shrinkwrap had been carefully cut likely to open the box for inspection as noted in Expansys' catalog (e.g.: to check for damage and/or a US-type power plug).
• The tablet itself still wore the factory's wrapping. I carefully examined the polythene under bright lights (think C.S.I.: Android !), but saw absolutely no signs of tampering.
• From talking to several people who own the Chinese (PRC) model, nobody in their right mind would go to the trouble of re-flashing one to make it look like the Taiwanese part.
BTW: when I asked Expansys to verify Google's apps, s'body in the warehouse kindly sent a pic of a freshly unboxed/booted Nokia N1. Maybe that's the one you got?
Hope this helps a bit.

I'd like to hear your results, for sake of curiosity. Meanwhile, mine stopped at Android v5.0.2 -- I'm told this is the current final release for Nokia's Taiwanese N1.
To date, only their Chinese (PRC) part has been upgraded to 5.1.1, but since that OTA rolled out just a few weeks ago, I guess there's still hope for the rest of us.

I am happy with the Expansys unit as well, I was debating between the N1 and the new Asus zenpad 8.0 s which has the same processor and slightly better specs but costs more.. The N1 is much better looking and has stock Android which is a big plus.
I hope they will keep on updating it, eventually to Marshmallow, since after all it's stock Android...

It's very helpful - thank you. The info about the build number suggests that the software is original. Someone here said their tablet was rooted, but I suspect they were mistaken. I missed the part in Expansys' catalog stating that they open the boxes for inspection, that makes it much less suspicious.
The tablet is impressive for the price. Build quality, thinness, performance, wireless specs, battery life. I guess that's why I'm questioning - because it looks like it falls into the "too good to be true" category.
Would love to buy a docking station that takes full advantage of the Nokia N1, whatever it offers from the Type C port out of the box or can be hacked. This press release for a dock reference design specifically mentions the N1 tablet, but I suspect because it was one of the earliest devices and not because the dock is optimized for the N1.

Happy to hear that! If you have a minute, please do me a favor and click that official XDA 'thanks' button (below), would you? Just getting started here and I could use the cred points.

Yeah, I'd say he's simply wrong. And I'm a careful guy -- first thing I did after I got my new N1 running was to install AIDA64 (a free HW-analysis app; look for it in the Play Store). It confirmed that the device was not rooted.

Expansys append something like that ('Note that the box will be opened...') for a large number of listings. I guess we can assume they get their stock from a wide variety of sources and under varying circumstances.

LOL I know, right? This thing is just astonishing value for money -- a super device at an unbeatable price. Except for the disappointing camera and (so far) lack of Android v5.1.1, I'm 110% happy with my purchase.

Yep, that would be a neat accessory, for sure. Well, you never know; it's pretty clear Nokia see their future with Android devices, so maybe we can look forward to an upgraded 'N2' tablet, using the same shell.

I am happy with the Expansys unit as well, I was debating between the N1 and the new Asus zenpad 8.0 s which has the same processor and slightly better specs but costs more.. The N1 is much better looking and has stock Android which is a big plus.

Couldn't agree more.
The N1 is delightful in it's simplicity, with vanilla Android and elegant design. Nokia took the iPad Mini's basic look and improved it; rounding those famously 'chamfered edges' gives much better feel in the hand.

Oh, for sure! Planning to do exactly that, soon as it arrives.
Meanwhile, I bought a leather 'sleeve' protector, originally designed for the iPad Mini 2/3...a gorgeous piece of leathercraft, that looks and feels 3 times more costly than it was. I'll post pics and info on that, as well.

Microsoft Lumia (Continuum) Dock Works with HTC 10

Lisa from mobiletechreview did a smackdown between the HTC 10 and Samsung S7. In the video review she mentioned she was able to use the Microsoft Lumia (Continuum) Dock to power peripherals, connect HDMI to mirror the screen, and charge the device. This is pretty awesome and surprised many aren't talking about it. The HTC 10 may be the closest android fans get to a true desktop replacement experience (with the dock). If only android allowed running full Chrome, HTC 10 with the dock could be a chromebook/desktop replacement.
http://www.mobiletechreview.com/phones/HTC-10.htm
I will have to test when I get my 10! I have the 950xl currently and have the dock for it. It would be awesome if I could still use it! Is there any software needed installed on the 10 to run it?
This will get a lot more exciting with Android N and multitasking/free moving windows.
Any chance we'll e able to do something with RemixOS in order to get a continuum thing going?

But give me a mobile desktop and not just a screen mirror, please!
its great to see that the microsoft display dock works with the 10. but is there not a cheaper (and wired) solution than this? id really only be looking to use the HDMI screen mirroring as well as charging the device simultaneously. i havent been able to find anything though.
if this really is the only solution then the $100 will be well spent, but id still prefer something a bit cheaper.

Do you mean something like this:
http://www.amazon.com/HT-UC001-Shut...id=1462110641&sr=8-2&keywords=usb-c+hdmi+dock
I've picked up a generic USB-C to HDMI adaptor which I plan to test as soon as my 10 arrives. IF that works, I may take the plunge on a hub.

Yes but for another $20 I'd rather just grab the Microsoft dock.

I am looking fwd to someone testing the HooToo dock. That looks really very interesting if it works with HTC 10!! Someone mentioned in the reviews that it did not work with Nexus 5X.

MS dock can only do 1080p. The HooToo dock can do 4K, and HTC 10 has the ability to do 4K. I would love to see my 4K videos recorded in HTC 10 straight on my 4K TV instead of doing it over wifi through cast.
That alone is 20$ worth for me. So, I would pay 120$ if HooToo works with HTC 10...

The Nexus does not support video out, which is why it doesn't work. I guess a few things had to give to hit their price...
My guess is something as simple as this would work:

That can work but won't simultaneously charge the phone
Guys, any update on the dock? I see I'm not the only person on the planet who already started to think how to utilise fully that usb-c port. Since the review the OP posted suggests that the docking station work, that would mean others should too (most of them at least). Also there are already reports that usb-c to hdmi simple adapters work so I guess that's settled. The only thing I need and would love to is usb-c to hdmi WITH charging, but from what I can tell there is nothing like that on the web. Only usb-c to hdmi without charging. However, those hubs look pretty interesting and that's why I'm coming here as some of you mentioned they were planning to order a hub and check it out. If any of you got it already can you tell me if the charging of the phone works with the hub?
If so, I'm looking into this:
http://www.unitek-products.com/en/product_detail.php?id=430
I already have couple things from Unitek, still working till this day and I know they are solid company.
If anybody's interested I wrote a question to the guys from mobiletech and here is Lisas response:
Hi Lucas,
The Lumia dock did indeed charge the phone. USB-C charging has very exacting specifications, and I can’t say whether Unitek’s would .
best,
Lisa

So she confirmed that the Lumia dock did indeed charge the phone which is great, because it looks most likely that most of those hubs should act very alike. I will probably orded the Unitek hub over the weekend.
Im also very interested in mirroring HTC 10 through theese kind of hubs. The possibility to use it as a "computer" with simultaneous charging, monitor, keyboard and mouse is all I'm looking for. From what I heard it's quite demanding, let's just hope HTC 10 got what it takes to deliver flawless experience!
Just ordered the Unitek hub. Should be at my place sometime during the middle of this week. I'll let you know how it turned out.
Anyone considered one of these? supposedly a drop in replacement on the lumia so using that as a benchmark for compatibility.

Who's ordered one?

And where from? I ordered mine from Bang Good:
http://www.banggood.com/UMI-Z-5_5-I...Deca-Core-2_6Ghz-4G-Smartphone-p-1114313.html
Normally I wouldn't grab a new release anything, but the vanilla Android tipped me over from grabbing one of Xiaomi's beauties to this. Can't wait to give Nougat a whirl.
I am thinking about ordering one but how is UMI's support are the updates good and do they keep promises with their ROM release dates?
I know have an Elephone P9000 but their ROMs and support suck. My Phone won't boot anymore because a bad ROM was installed after updating. Dont want that experience again.
I ordered from Chinavasion.
It was a bit over 240 USD with express delivery and their customer service informed me that it should be dispatched until the end of the week.
However, given it was ordered on discount, they might fulfill first the orders without discount as it's more likely for them to cancel.

OK, thanks for the try, but one only core seems to work, there. 'pm' me and I'll tell you how to change the options. The result should be around 2000k; possibly a bit more than that... Anyway, THANK YOU !!

is there any online store for buying battery?

Hi friends,
I'm using Robin for one and a half years. Last week I faced a huge problem. The problem is If I removed my phone from the charger it gets switched off but if I put it in power save mode it can stable to 50%. Is there anyone facing these kinds of a problem or if anyone knows how to fix this please say me. I feel that the reason for the problem is the battery. If so where can I get an original battery or replacement battery!!!!! please, friends, help me.

Unless you're in India, no there isn't (long story short they won't ship outside India). Your best hope might be this, but it's not for the faint of heart: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ne...tery-replacement-guide-nextbit-robin-t3872034

I can make no judgement as to whether or not they're a good source, I'm in the US and they won't ship outside India.

The only place I know of to buy a new battery is the site that won't ship outside India. There are used batteries pulled from non-working or allegedly never used phones on eBay, but those are at least a little risky.
The other link I shared is a post from someone who figured out a way to get a similar battery from an Oppo phone to work with the Robin. But it is an involved process not everyone (including myself) is comfortable doing.
The bottom line is that I don't know of anywhere in the US to buy a new and never used Nextbit Robin replacement battery.

You'd better buy a new phone.
Similar issue here, if power hungry apps are started (like camera or new GMaps) and battery is 50% or lower, it just dies. I'm in Singapore and had no luck finding replacement battery. Pixel 3 coming tomorrow as replacement, farewell Robin, I liked you.
Robin will be downgraded to some sort of smart home touch panel device to listen to music and control lights. Maybe even Google Assistant? We will see.
