Root Nvidia Shield Android TV on Android Marshmallow - Shield Android TV General

I am not currently available i am in bootcamp for the navy.
Note: Ok for anybody browsing this thread right now the 500gb version shield tv seems to be having issues mounting partition now. The 16gb should work correctly though
this is thread on how to root the Nvidia shield android TV on android marshmallow. I do not own the software used here. I also want to state the ota will work with twrp installed but the ota will replace twrp with stock and delete root. this process should still work but if it does not try flashing to stock android lollipop which erases all userdata and then re-upgrade and try again. you will also need a usb mouse for this but it might also work with a keyboard which I did not test.
download twrp and supersu from this pages.
supersu
http://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/supersu/2014-09-02-supersu-v2-05-t2868133
twrp
http://forum.xda-developers.com/shield-tv/general/recovery-twrp-2-8-6-0-shield-tv-variants-t3140926
1. transfer the supersu zip file to the internal storage in any way you want just make sure it is in the internal storage.
2. make sure adb and fastboot work properly on your computer. it does not matter which operating system.
3. reboot nvidia shield android tv to bootloader screen either by making sure usb debugging is enabled and running adb reboot bootloader or using the hardware method I copied from the nvidia site.
HW method:
- Disconnect power cable
- Insert USB OTG cable and make sure to connect other end to a host PC
- Connect power cable to SHIELD
- Quickly start pressing power button for ~3 seconds
- Do not hold the button and connect power supply afterwards
- HDMI TV should be always connected to SHIELD
4. once in the bootloader screen make sure your mouse is hooked up the nvidia shield android tv and on the computer make sure you have a command prompt or terminal open and in the same directory as where your twrp file is located.
5. if on windows run fastboot boot twrp.img, if on ubuntu run sudo fastboot boot twrp.img
note: make sure to replace twrp.img with the name of the downloaded file.
6. if everything is done successfully up to this point you should be in a normal twrp environment.
7. you can flash the supersu zip file like normal and it should take about a minute to finish. if everything was succesfully you should have root access now.
note: if twrp asked you to install supersu do not and also if it displays a screen asking about leaving system read-only tell it to leave read-only
sorry about the disorganization I suck at writing. If someone wants to help me organize this post that would be awesome.
Note: it appears that people with the 500gb version are having issues mounting the partitions to install the supersu.zip
if you have issues try backing your data up and flashing to stock android lollipop and installing the ota without rooting. It is very important that twrp does not mount system read write. If this does not work i will update this post as we figure this out.
P.s. i have the 16gb model shield tv

On either of my Shields, twrp cant mount the partitions to install zip. How were you able to install it?

Same here...can't mount

Try flashing the android lollipop and installing the ota without rooting at any point. Also make sure that twrp does not mount system read write

Belive me or not last 24hours i was stuck on 2.1 and 2.0 downgrading (i don't recommend downgrade ). Downgrading to 2.1 or 2.0 make console freezing on welcom screen where need WiFi password setup and Google password details, to get finally till developer debug option . You can't return back on Ota coz twrp can't see your patriots....amd bla bla
I can continue and continue, when you updating Vulcan ota you updating bootloader and new bootloader not works back on 2.1. So don't do downgrade, I'm kind of lucky to didn't brick, but yesterday I kind of reanimated back on vulkan. + there is no yet mm6 os image where you can easily rollback through fastboot.

I did ended up having to do downgrade to 2.1 ota and installing the ota to marsgamllow before twrp would install the zip but i thought that was because i accidently told twrp to root my rom when it asked. But i can say it is possible to downgrade as long as you use the full official stock from nvidia's website. It is a pain to do though. It should not be required to root though.

Hm can you pm me your recovery.log and you try going to stock android 5.1 or nvidia shield android tv version 2.1 fully stock and then update without rooting. You should no issues downgrading because nvidia has a update for the bootloader to downgrade to 2.1 then try to update

True well try flashing back to stock using the full stock zip from nvidia. It includes the bootloader in the stuff to flash. You just download the zip and run the .bat file as administor after you have put the shield into bootloader mode. Also was twrp able to mount partitions when youbjad lollipop installed because the partition scheme did npt change across versions.

alright will try explain somehow ....
two day ago i downloaded Vulcan developer zip (productionBL-droid-signed-foster_e_hdd-full_ota-41937_664.8257.20160212074447) and installed through twrp ......
1 job done - console boots in v6.0 without root and custom recovery, so i decided i need root....
2 adb sideload supersu.zip (native recovery was been broken)
3. trying twrp - couldn't cant mount cant see (same as now)
4. decided downgraded back to 2.1 through fastboot (nv-recovery-image-shield-atv-pro-upgrade2_1) image from nvidia site
5 after long process console reboot and stuck on NVIDA green logo - taking out power cord and back - problem sorted console boots and first screen shows up where you need choose which controller or remote you need pair....
6. ............and here comes interesting part ...............remote and controller didn't give a life sings at all (only background klicking sound) - just first screen freeze up --- i decided need do again reinstall 2.1 and started process....
7. after long waiting (around two hours) (actually i didn't wait --- left house and return after 5-6h) ---- controller/remote start work....
8. bypass selecting remote screen ................and again interesting part..........choosing wifi network with phenomenal "long delay" with several restarting and finally i approach google account screen and same story there WITH LONG DELAY WITH SEVERAL RESTART i finally boot 2.1
x. and strangest here after this all drama console works without delays or kind of glitch/lags starts and restarts ----- then i saw 11gb instead of 500gb and i did factory reset from settings menu ----and whattt......same "long song agin"--- pairing, WiFi, google account many restarts and here we go 500gb is back
9 (and i decided i need Vulcan back faastboot boot recovery.zip and install vulcan.zip (note: twrp under 2.1 worked fine no hassle without problem) but still didn't worked native recovery (showed me "broken or no command....android man horizontal position with red triangle" something like that)
10 now i have installed Vulcan back and working OK but twrp not
p.s. ill better wait till nvida will publish v3.0 whole os on website and will try fresh reinstall of whole os a. i kind of don't wanna stuck again hours. b. i already did this. c. and i still thinking this is bootloader which is not down gradable (like it is for some phones/devices) coz when i was under 2.1 i could easily do this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/shield-tv/help/hardware-bootloader-access-easy-t3317627
but before Vulcan installing noway u could do that under 2.1

Ok for anybody browsing this thread right now the 500gb version shield tv seems to be having issues mounting partition now. The 16gb should work correctly though

That is correct, The 500gb model doesn't like twrp after marshmellow ota. It can't see partitions anymore. If you try downgrading also, you get those freezes in the welcome setup that visitor29 mentioned. So ota on pro models right now = no root.

We (500gb unit users) need wait official release of marshmallow os img from nvidia and some goodies from developer steel01, but meanwhile who don't wanna loose root and Twrp I recommend better stay on 2.1

[RECOVERY][ROM]Huawei U8500

Hey,
I recently bought this phone Huawei U8500, and I had a long search on the net where can I get a working recovery, finally I found a modified clockworkmod recovery.
It seems that this phone is highly unpopular.
I just wanted to share my finding.
Here you can download this modified version: Download
Steps to install recovery:
1. Download the clockworkmod
2. Unrar it somewhere on your computer
3. Turn off your phone
4. Press & Hold volume down key + call end (red) key and then press power key.
5. Launch the .bat file on your computer + connect your phone via USB
6. When it's finished, take out the battery and wait 5 seconds before putting it back in
7. Then you can access the recovery by holding volume up key + call(green) key
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
One thing I can recommend If your phones android build version doesn't end with "712", I suggest you to update it to the beta release, you'll have more functional dual-touch.
Here is the beta froyo update: Download
To install it:
1. Unrar it to your computer, and find a folder named "dload" with the biggest size.
2. Copy that "dload" filder to root of your SD card
3. turn off phone
4. Hold volume up key + end call (red) key and the press power key. Wait for it to load, it will say something like "Updating system" Wait for it to finish, if it says fail, just try again
5. After it says "Update complete" or "Update successful" just restart your phone and you'll have the new beta firmware.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In the Russian site I found some unofficial ROM's too.
I haven't tried them yes but if someone is willing here you can download them:
Firmware 2.2 29.01.2011 by Pavlo78
u8500_mao_rls7b2
u8500_mao_rls7++by_march_2
u8500_mao_rls8_by_march
u8500_mao_rls8_by_march
To install one of these ROM's do the following:
1. Copy the ZIP file on root of your SD card, the ZIP file, not RAR.
2. Boot up your phone in recovery mode (by holding volume up key + call(green) key)
3. With your optical trackpad select "Install zip from sd card"
4. From the list choose your ZIP file
5. And then just wait till the installation is complete and then just restart the phone!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I highly recommend you to back up the original firmware before installing new ROM's
You can do that in recovery mode, just click on nandroid and follow the on screen instructions it will backup your current firmware + your currently installed apps.
I'm not responsible for bricking your phone, if something doesn't go well. By doing the things I wrote, you may void your phones warranty.
Don't forget to thank me
Kind regards
xcoder_123
Bro, may i have to wipe all data via recovery like slash, cache and dalvik cache before i install froyo beta?
This is really helpful...a lot of Bangladeshis will be needing this. Telenor just launched this phone here.
I am using Huawei U8500 (Local branded as GrameenPhone Crystal). I have backed up my current ROM using ROM Manager. Can anyone confirm that the back-up ROM contains all the information including the Customized Branding???

I did download the beta firmware.
And updated the phone's firmware a few minutes ago.

This should be enough for all your stock rom needs.

BTW: If you install the clockwordmod, you will lose the GP stock bootup screen (not the boot animation). So if you are going to claim warranty make sure you flash the GP firmware before you go to the GP centre.
Someone was asking how this phone is...the only issue I have is knowing that I'll never have flash on this thanks to the arm6 processor.

There is a thread in the port section of the Cyanogenmod forum. It started with a lame question but later a lot was discussed about gingerbread 2.3.4. There is a Chinese developer (Slax) who has been working on the rom. However, this rom does have a few issues.
I don't know Chinese and google translate is incomprehensible. You should be able to find all the links needed in the cyanogenmod forum.
here is the link.
http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/21467-huawei-u8500/
for froyo try trial and error with all the official roms. if you don't like one change it. eventually you will find one that meets your need.

Dear bro,
This link doesn't work. Pls, help me with a active link.
Thanks in advance.
Hello XCoder, and all!
I try this steps, but i stopped after 4th step...
I get a boot logo, and the XP can't recognize droid, unknown device.
than the .bat file just wait for connection.
i try lot of drivers (original U8500, Original Android, and the SDK's driver too) and still "unknown Andoid device"
If i get out battery, take back, and standard Power On, the XP recognize the "Android Composite ADB" device, and bind the SD card, and CDROM image, and works perfectly.
but i can't upgrade in Standard Mode
can anyone have an idea, how i can access the Droid under Recovery Mode?
and all links of huaweidevice.com are unavailable
have new link?

I have same problem here

[Q] Kindle Fire wifi won't turn on at all

hey everyone,
I normally don't post on here because I find the info without needing to, but I can't find this even with google fu, any help appreciated
Problem: Wifi won't turn on
ROMs tried: Orignal Kindle ROM, CM 9 (hashcode make), CM 9 (Energy mod ICS)
Other notes: My methods worked on my other KFs, but not this one.... however its an older version. I was sure to make everything factory default, wipes the two caches, and out of frustration from TeamWin deleted everything on the flash and system (except TeamWin Obviously). I have the Android SDK setup to interface with the device, so if you need me to hit it from there let me know. Everything else works, but a wifi only tablet without wifi is useless in my book.
Thanks once again for any help I will go back to google fu'n and head to wall bashing
Well can you mount your sdcard in twrp? If so transfer this to your sdcard http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1439916 wipe everything except your external storage and flash it. Maybe this will help isolate whether this is a hardware issue.
hmm

Thanks for the quick reply, will give this one a shot and hopefully it works
Edit/update:
I can mount the device in TWRP, however it will not mount when I boot the ROM. Also adb is apparently not running on the device? Did these commands:
adb kill-server
adb device
and device not listed.

Thanks for the quick reply, will give this one a shot and hopefully it works
Edit/update:
I can mount the device in TWRP, however it will not mount when I boot the ROM. Also adb is apparently not running on the device? Did these commands:
adb kill-server
adb device
and device not listed.

update: got a terminal emulator on the device while I waited for the download (I already had the apk). One thing peculiar is it cant find wlan0... which I can on my other one. Also usb is still a no go unless from TeamWin. Still waiting on the ROM.

ROM flashed to device, kept having Google android process fail and restart causing major pains... so I couldnt even check the wifi. Using the Kindle Fire Utility I reflashed Gapps and rebooted, it locked up, so I wiped the caches and whatnots and put the ROM in Factory reset mode from TWRP. It looks like for sure the wifi NIC is fried... going to have to just send it back and have them send me another one... one final thing is I am downloading the latest factory ROM for this device and flashing it with it to see if that works, and if not then the people I am sending back to wont know the wiser lol. Thanks for giving ideas nonetheless yall!

Did the factory ROM flash correct the issue or still a no-go for WiFi?
Hey guyz.. i solve the issue!..
if your system version is lower the the the latest version:
just download the update img in amazon kindle. using PC. then copy to kinlde directory..and after updating the wifi works..
if latest version:
downgrade the kindle using KFHD_SRT_v1.2.3.zip and a fastboot cable.
then apply the above process.

Help. My Letv X800 us version. have malware. it's install the app automatic without my permission.
It's auto download the app in the background and install the application automatic.
and run it , how to solve this problem.
I'm really in pain.
US/international Le1 pro that is sold worldwide on many web-shops comes with very unpleasant malware package. Several malware/trojans are included in rom. Many users suffered automatic installation of unwanted software, and there will be many more in next days.
Root, flash TWRP and install any RECENT custom ROM. Cuoco 14S for stock experience or latest CM12.1 for good experience. Good luck, you can find all infos in the threads!
I had the same problem and my phone bricked trying to install TWRP. Hope to have a chance this weekend to attempt to unbrick the phone this weekend. Let me know if you find a way to install TWRP, because none of the instructions here worked. For the record, this isn't my first rodeo...I've rooted every smart phone I've ever owned.

I had the same issue. I couldn't get my phone to boot into any of the ROMS (CM, CUOCO92) with TWRP as my recovery. After a few attempts and a few soft bricks later, I stumbled across this sequence.
1- Flash TWRP 3.0.2. At this point, my phone could only boot into recovery.
2- From TWRP, wipe phone, root, flash custom rom, then reboot into TWRP (recovery).
3- Use Fastboot to flash Stockrecovery.img. Reboot. Your phone will be able to start the CM/CUOCO ROM.
YES..... I can confirm too. this phone is installing stupid apps by itself! I just found today morning that i had a new lock screen! wtf????? I'd flash the phone right away! get your self a new TWRP and a different rom.
You can download US rom by Cuoco92 for the US version + TWRP (version 5.5.014S) here:

will it work or this FW not competible with our X800?

Root + twrp + bootloader unlock + twrp flashable stock rom - marhsmallow

If you are on Lollipop, this guide is NOT for you!
Almost none of this is my work, I just collect it and put it together in one place and I'm writing a small how-to get things done.
PLEASE ONLY PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!!!!!!!
ONLY FOR ZX551ML
Bootloader unlock:
Currently the only way I was able to get ROOT on the phone was by installing it from TWRP which required an unlocked bootloader, so the first step is to get the bootloader unlocked, to do this please follow this steps:
1) Enable USB debugging - If you do not know what is that and how to do it, you should probably STOP right here.
2) Download and extract: Unlock 6_ZX551ML.ZIP
3) From the extracted folder run unlock.bat (This will restart your phone into fastboot mode, downgrade the bootloader and unlock it)
4) When step 3 is completed, you need to run restore.bat
If everything went on correctly your boot screen should be inverted (white background, black Asus text). This was the most risky part. I only have my phone and it worked, but if something goes wrong here you might end up bricking your phone, so please take extreme care, always read the messages on the screen!!!!!
Custom Recovery:
1) Now to get a custom recovery, please download TWRP-3.0.2-M1-Z00A.img.
2) Put your phone into bootloader mode, if your phone is currently in use, just use the following commands:
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
Alternatively you can power off the phone, remove the USB cable. Power it back on while holding the volume up button.
3) once your phone if in bootloader mode please use the following command:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery TWRP-3.0.2-M1-Z00A.img
4) Use the vol up & down to select "RECOVERY"
5) Use the power button (short press) to reboot to TWRP
ROOTING
1) Download BETA-SuperSU-v2.74-2-20160519174328-patch-by-shakalaca-for-zenfone2-6.0_(1).zip
2) In recovery select Advanced -> Sideload
3) From your computer use the following commands:
Code:
adb sideload "BETA-SuperSU-v2.74-2-20160519174328-patch-by-shakalaca-for-zenfone2-6.0_(1).zip"
4) Once it's completed installing, restart the phone to system
FLASHABLE STOCK ROM
If you have TWRP installed and you want to flash the latest stock ROM, you will need to, make sure you un-root your phone from the supersu app, reboot to recovery and sideload the zip. You can also copy the zip to your phone and install it from twrp. When installing the stock rom, your bootloader will be locked again, so you will need to unlock it (if you wish), also you will need to root again, because the root is lost. However the modified stock rom will NOT remove the custom recovery giving you freedom to flash whatever you like in the future...
XPOSED
Xposed on our device won't work if we have SuperSu installed. If you want to use Xposed modules you will need to use PHH's SuperUser instead. All files required for Xposed/Magisk/Phh's SuperUser are available in the Xposed folder.
Available modified stock rom versions:
UL-Z00A-WW-4.21.40.141-user-TWRP.zip - Updated: 2016-Oct-07
UL-Z00A-WW-4.21.40.197-user-TWRP.zip - Updated: 2016-Dec-16
Files can be downloaded from: here
Again, please proceed on your own risk.
Special tanks and credits to all the guys who made this possible, namely:
@sorg @social-design-concepts @shakalaca - For bootloader unlock
@jrior001 for the TWRP
@shakalaca - For the modified SuperSU package.

While essentially true the user can always use a different boot animation by flashing one via twrp. There might even be one somewhere of the unmodified asus screen.
Can anyone confirm the flashable Rom mentioned in Post #1 is MM 6.0.1? I ask because my phone upgraded itself right after I booted it up and I wondered if it was on a newer version than the downloadable one. Pretty sure the update was only security updates given it was only around 80mb.
The actuall boot screen is only a couple of seconds long while the boot animation shown

Well as usual the linux users drew the short straw. The shell script is for mac users. I decided to see about running the lines manually but never even reached the "danger zone". As soon as I did an "adb reboot bootloader" I followed up with "sudo fastboot devices" (some linux distro's need sudo..some don't)....and nothing shows up although I can clearly see the device is hooked up and in fastboot mode as well as the fact the adb reboot bootloader worked. I swap out one of my other devices and check things...they show up fine in fastboot....ok...so what's missing from this picture?
*update* solved by updating the ubuntu adb and fastboot binaries from here: https://github.com/simmac/minimal_adb_fastboot/tree/master/linux
*update2* bootloader unlocked, supersu flashed and verified. Much appreciated.
I ran the bootloader unlock and it appeared to work. Now it keeps booting back into the bootloader. I can't seem to get it to boot normal. Suggestions?
Nevermind, I didn't realize that I needed to run restore.bat while still in the bootloader. It is booting now! I was able to follow your guide and it is now rooted.
Regarding the marshmallow zip you include. I have a couple questions.
- For the modified stock version that will keep the recovery do I just need to flash it from recovery?
- Do I need to unroot before flashing this modified stock marshmallow?
Thanks!

Regarding the zip, yes flash from recovery and you don't need to unroot before, but you will need to root after flashing.
However I do suggest you make a backup before flashing jsut in case....

I'm assuming the file is just for folks who are on lollipop who want to upgrade? Didn't see any need to flash it since already on 6.0.1 and have it rooted...unless I'm missing something again.
I read this after I went to 6.0.1 from Asus's manual download and update process. I can't get ADB to connect in the OS (developer mode never displays, even though it tells me I'm a developer after doing kernel ver. button process). I tried to get adb devices -l in fastboot and recovery, and it wont discover it. I've tried multiple windows drivers (including the one that worked when I flashed the firmware the first time) to no avail. Any ideas?

If windows doesn't see the phone when in recovery there is something wrong, this can be:
1) Wrong driver
2) Damaged USB cable
3) Damaged USB port.
When you are in recovery you should see the phone with adbm if you are in fastboot you should see the phone with:
Code:
fastboot devices
If nothing works you have the nuclear option.
Manually download the original firmware from Asus website: https://www.asus.com/support/Download/39/1/0/26/BXbNqJplzZiLmk6G/32/
copy the zip to an Sd card.
1) Now Turn Off your phone and boot into recovery mode by pressing Power+Volume UP.
2) Now in recovery mode choose to apply update from sdcard.
3) Now select the zip file.
4) Now wait until the process complete and then Reboot the phone.
5) Done!

More or less true, but somehow I was on a 6.0.1 version which is now gone from the firmware list of Zenfone, meaning I have updated from 6.0.1 to 6.0.1
Again now I see there is a new firmware released yesterday if I have the time I will patch that system image as well so it can be upgraded with TWRP.

Actually most if them can be. Here is a print screen of the ones I have disabled on my phone hover I have a zenpad z380c which I use as my car dashboard and on that one o have disabled almost of all of the apps, except zenhome, audio manager and the file manager.
Yes I was surprised to find out that there is almost no zoom community.

I'm actually enjoying mobile managers auto startup managing...it's done a good job of keeping 10000 things from running at startup that don't need to although "Startup Manager" would do a similar job for free. I'm liking the zenui launcher and calling screen so don't want to break anything related to that...the phone's been performing exceptionally well for days on end with no required reboots. Been very impressed. Previously been fighting with a T-mobile V10 and an Alcatel Idol 3...the v10 had spontaneous reboots...the idol had a stock rom with a bunch of lag in it....tiny to nothing development on both of those.
What about Zentalk, ZenChoice, PhotoCollage, MyAsus Service center, Clean Master, Audiowizard and Bug Reporter?

I use tasker for that, but yes I agree as a whole is not bad, this is my 4rd Asus product (Zenfone 4, Zenfone 2, Zoom and Zenpad) and overall I'm quite impressed with how they perform, just the support from Asus isn't really the top of the cream... they released MM when other were releasing N... so yeah a bit of sour taste, otherwise happy. Well from the lack of posts it appears you and I ARE the zenfone zoom community. Any idea where the system updates get stored after downloading? I thought in /cache based on regular zenfone posts but was unable to see it. I've got one available but it has to be modified for twrp compatibility as well as unrooting temporarily.

[GUIDE] Official updates on a M2 tablet with root/changed recovery

Official updates for our M2 tablet,
although having installed another
recovery and root access, already.
- Disclaimer
Well, whatever you do with this guide is all up to you and in your own responsibility. You
should have basic knowledge about ADB and flashing, which is explained in many other
threads here on our beloved XDA.
- Issue
When you used this guide (https://goo.gl/r04XjJ) or any other one to give your M2 tablet
another recovery and therefore root rights, you have now the problem, that EMUI will show
you new updates, but you are not able to install them, because of the missing stock recovery,
of course.
- Solution
So, you have to flash back the original stock recovery, getting the official update and then you
can flash back your TWRP recovery.
- Guide
1. You should start your EMUI update programme/app and start the download of your update.
When it is finished, it will ask you to reboot into recovery and install automatically. As you have
no stock recovery I strongly advise not to do so. Usually nothing happens, but there is one case
reported, where it somehow ****ed up the guy's tablet. I am not sure, if that story is true, but
well, I have warned you.
2. Just turn your tablet off after you have finished downloading the update (it will wait now in
the directory "HwOUC" on your tablet and it is called "update.zip" - just let it sleep there).
3. Start the tablet in the fastboot recovery mode, meaning plugging in the USB cable (connected
to the computer) and hold the buttons "power" and "volume down", immediately, until a white
screen appears, which is the fastboot recovery screen. It should tell you, it has the bootloader
unlocked, which is normal, because you did that earlier on with any of the other guides (see above).
4. Copy the downloaded stock recovery of your choice to your ADB directory. In my case this is
"c:\ADB", but this depends on your way of installation.
5. Now open up a command line in Windows (with Windows key + R) and type "cmd") and go to
your ADB directory, using commands like "cd .." and "cd adb".
6. When having arrived in the ADB directory, you have to enter these commands one after the other:
fastboot flash recovery stock-recovery.img
fastboot reboot
If you renamed the recovery file, then you have to consider that in the command, of course.
7. The device will reboot directly into the recovery, because it "sees" the update in the update
directory et voila ... you are getting your awaited update. Sometimes it will boot not into the EMUI
recovery directly, but then you hast have to start the tablet normally, open up the EMUI app and
download the update again and do the OTA update properly with the reboot it tells you to do,
when it is finished.
8. Okay, now you have received your update, but if you want to have back your TWRP, you just
have to turn off your tablet and boot into the fastboot recovery again (see 3.).
9. You have to copy your TWRP recovery to your ADB directory (in my case "twrp.img" in "c:\ADB").
10. Now open up a command line in Windows (with Windows key + R and type "cmd") and go to
your ADB directory, using commands like "cd .." and "cd adb".
11. When having arrived in the ADB directory, you have to enter these commands one after the other:
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
fastboot reboot
12. The tablet will reboot and you are back to a working lovely updated M2 tablet.
- Root:
If you want to have root rights, I strongly recommend flashing Magisk within TWRP, because it is
just a nice and more modern approach to having root. It works very fine on my M2 10 tablet. The
link for the files and guide is here:

It is very easy. You just flash Magisk 12 in TWRP and then install the Magisk Manager app from the
Play store.

Have fun with your updated tablet. ... and I am happy, if I could help you - any coffee appreciated.

Additionally, I can offer you the updates B007 and B010 (most current one) for the
M2 10 LTE (M2-A01L), because I managed to save them/back them up. These are the
European versions of B007 and B010 with all language files, I believe.
So, who is having a M2-A01L and is still sitting on B006 or B007, might try a manual
update, which is as easy as pie. It is just one simple step.
Also, an update from B009 to B010 might be possible.
Of course, I cannot give any guarantee for Huawei's update files, which you will
understand, I guess.
what android version ?? M2-801L, thanks

M2-A01L, not M2-801L. For all 8 models you find your ROMs here:

I'd greatly appreciate it, if you could share. Got the problem that my A-01L got corrupted. The only official ROM I've been able to find has been B005 what is somewhat old. As it seems to be a pre-release version the tablet doesn't find any updates. Thus I'd like to try to upgrade to B007, or even B010 manually when I'm back home. Currently I'm on a weekend trip as friends of mine are going to marry tomorrow. Thus I'd be able to download them on Sunday evening if you'd provide them.

I have Magisk running on several devices, including the M2-A01L, but I must admit,
I never got the Safetynet passed, even with Magisk hide enabled.
I just use it as systemless root and with systemless Xposed, which is great.

After enabling magisk hide, you have to reboot your device. Got the 801L working with that and safetynet passes.
Noob Question on recovery files
Hi, and thanks for a incredible well detailed guide for updating. Came here because I haven't found any good recovery files for the wifi model. I've been trying (unsuccessfully may I add...) to install TWRP and magisk. So, my question is: can the recovery files for the LTE model be used on the wifi model? (M2-A01w). Thanks for your help!

Sorry, I have been on vacation.
To be honest, I am not sure, if the recovery for M2-A01L works on M2-A01w, too, but you can just try it.
I think, there should not be that big a problem, because the recovery has nothing to do with Wi-Fi or LTE, at all. It is just important, that partition tables and drives are accessible the same way and well, I really think, there is not much difference in between the M2 10 models.
From M2 8 to 10 there is a difference, of course. That is why I uploaded both recoveries (for 802L and A01L).
Just use that guide (https://forum.xda-developers.com/mediapad-m2/how-to/guide-unlock-bootlader-twrp-root-huawei-t3322340) without the SuperSU flashing and my recoveries in this guide.
Hi guys,
I need help, I have a M2 10 LTE previously modded with TWRP for root and I've just followed this guide to update from 007 to 010 version.
So I've flashed the stock-recovery, rebooted the tablet, requested the firmware update (I don't know if I got any error during the process) and the tablet has rebooted. Now it's stuck on HUAWEI logo..
I use this tablet for work so I really need to recover it asap.
Please help.

Could upload the B010 fullstock ROM/firmware. Thus you could reset the device to the latest stock ROM using the /dload method and gain a factory rested Huawei, as if out of the box. Just quote me if you'd want me to upload and I'll share the link asap. Took that way myself as soon as I found the full stock ROM.
