Wifi issues - Pixel C Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I did a google search and could not find much on this subject. Basically on Google Maps it keeps me within 200 feet of my position I can never get a full lock. And if I use any other non Google GPS or navigation software it says my GPS is not turned on when clearly it is. Is anyone else having an issue like this. I bought this tablet to control my work van with a set of relays I've installed and to use as my primary GPS.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you
Edit: my title meant to say GPS issues

No GPS on the pixel c. Should have checked that before you bought it.

Well it has GPS settings and I have mine set to high accuracy mode. It even has stand alone GPS settings

That's probably just a universal setting in Android. But it has been confirmed on several sites that there is no actual GPS hardware in the Pixel C. So it really only uses WiFi to determine your location.

Wow. That really sucks. Looked at couple sites for specs. All the ones I checked besides one list gps as a sensor. Wtf. Well. That's OK. But fact is if remix OS isn't available for this tablet soon im gonna get rid of it. This thing has a beautiful display but alot of issues. With remix OS on it I think I could use it more for productivity for my business. Then grab a Nexus 10 to control my truck.

I wouldn't count on Remix OS being on it
As it stands the Tablet is still a complete mess to develop on and that Chrome OS bootloader makes it worse from what i'm hearing.
On top of that the tablet just isn't popular enough which this forum should show you...Development for this tablet won't really take off until the price goes down or Google sorts it out which probably won't happen.
EDIT: Oh looks like they do plan to release on the Pixel C. that's great news! but I bet they hit walls with it.

I'm hoping so. Don't know if you have used remix but I believe it would be great in this device.

I'd be intrigued to try RemixOS, I recently purchased a full bluetooth keyboard with a trackpad and it works great!

Go to remixs site if you just want to try it. They have it for download and the download comes with a program to write a flash drive to boot. Just go into your BIOS and turn fastboot off and change boot order to look for USB first.
Will work on Windows or Mac.

I meant on my pixel c lol

Free GPS Software

Hi All
I don't know if someone already posted this but i thought i post it anyway. I searched for a easy 2 use GPS Application with good maps and free.
I found this.

I installed it and it worked really good for me. It found all the directions i was searching for and it worked also really good on the street. The "GUI" is easy 2 understand and simple to use.

Hi
I tried alot of stuff and i have to say honestly that this is the best thing if you dont wanna pay for it.
I tried , tom tom, Navigon and others. But im not willing to pay 300 Swiss franks in my case for something i can get free.
Have fun with it
I tried it out today, seemed to work, finds locations well in the database..
But It got me lost on my first try
Will try it again though, looks promising for a free solutions.

I used it as my primary navigation on my N95 8GB and currently use it on my Diamond2. Works great. They are working on a version so you can download maps offline. Because now it downloads the route through your connection. Using the arrow mode its very / unnoticeable data amount, but using maps might add up a little.

Can the route, once setup (ie start and destination input and a route plotted), be altered??
I'd like to set waypoints, and then adjust the route around known traffic spots, or along roads I particularly want to go one, then have the instructions fed to me by voice.
Google maps on the web allows this - but not the google-mobile version, and I know it's possible on the "paid for" navigation softwares.
malsing maps
tell me if someone got malsing map for this software. where i can download malsing maps?
Tried it again this afternoon , goin from slough to Egham, and worked really well, you need to change the view to the map with arrows option to get a good idea of where you are going, arrows alone done really work too well,
But as a free option, this is pretty good ;-)

It works good with my HTC6800, but when i use it for my HD, after exit the program, the system always error.... then i need to restart it, but if i use the HOME key to exit, then press the right corner to exit, its good...
I have downloaded this software and it looks to be working, yet to use on the open road,
Which WM6 version did you go for?

[Q] Sygic Aura for Android

I’m using Sygic Aura.
Have a few question. I guess they are pretty general:
Can I change voices in some way?
When I try and navigate to a contact, I have to update its position in the program. Is there a way to get it to understand the contact address right away?
When I’m using Sygic Aura and is logged in to their live service I see pictures of certain locations (they appear as icon sized pictures). Can I preview the in a larger format in some way?
Anyone here have a clue?
I'm having problems with mine. The software installs correctly, but cannot get a GPS fix, which keeps flicking on and off so that the map display constantly jumps between active coloured map and greyed out maps when the GPS signal disconnects. I'm using LeeDroid ROM. I have used the same trial on my Desire HD with no problems (also LeeDroid ROM).
Anyone have any ideas what might be the problem? No point buying the software if I can't get it to work...

That's interesting - it suggests the software is a bit flaky. I left it running whilst I went for a drive, and it did the same for about 40 minutes, and never got a full fix. Worked perfectly on the Desire though. Very strange. I won't be buying the full version at the moment that's for sure!
i got aura fully working on my DHD with fast gps fix
i have read some tips and tricks
install aura apk
reboot
download map
start aura and setup to your needs and likes
reboot
before using it to navigate, let it atleast fix once (stationary) completly
than you should have a fix almost directly(i have, even in my appartment)

BTW in my original post I should have said the trial works on my Desire, and not on the DHD. However, I have tried the above suggestion, and got the whole thing working. It's interesting that you can download the entire world in maps if you want, for a 7 day trial period. need to drive fast then!
I'm not happy with Sygic Aura at all.
First I really liked it and bought it but there are now 'bugs' introduced which renders this door to door gps software as useless.
Since ver2.1x you do not get arrival time (owww small bug according to the support team)
Last couple of weeks I noticed that in some big streets there is no way to insert a house number, euhm excuse me on a road that is about 10km long in the middle of Brussels, not so funny if you have professional contacts and you have to drive in that jungle staring at house numbers.
I just tried another couple of my other addresses and no house number, just unbelievable.
Tried my colleagues Navigon and tried iGO on my WinMo pda and house numbers everywhere, so software bug.
The support says that they are working on it and that it would just take weeks to solve the 'small bugs'.
At this moment I am so angry that I am going to claim my money back via paypal.
I can't even get it to run.
It was all ok for a while and then I flashed a new rom and it started force closing on me after I reinstalled it.
Can't really be bothered with it since the routing was gimp anyway.
I think Sygic have some work to do...
Latest version of Aura is still way to buggy for everyday use.
It has, in my opinion, the best looking UI of most (maybe all) SatNav apps for Android, but it has some serious flaws when it come to giving directions.
I have previously written a post on my views here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=874988
Dazultra and I have also done a SatNav comparison:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=902264
Please have a look
I tried Aura on my DHD for some time. Did every tric I could find to get a stable GPS based position, but my location keeps jumping around or is lagging behind for sometimes 30 second.
Driving in the city this is unacceptable. I'm missing turns because Aura thinks I'm still 50-100 meters back.
I installed GPS Status and used it to force a cold boot for my GPS. Put it outside on my gardentable for 1 hour (10 min would have been more than sufficient, but I forgot all about it )
No improvement with jumpy and lagging position in Aura.
So now I removed Aura again and thats too bad. Sygic Aura is at this moment the nicest looking and most complete (incl. rather cheap traffic info) nav. system.
On the other hand, I would realy like IGOmyWay or IGO PRIMO on my DHD with full resolution. I threw out my WM (Touch HD) phone some weeks ago on which I had PRIMO including working TMC. That was fantastic, and fully configurable (sys.txt).
Let's see what the next months brings us.....
Sygic Aura on Desire HD
Hi everyone
I've just started using Aura on my Desire HD - impressed with the UI etc, but have a couple of niggles which people may be able to help with...
I've got the paid version 2.1, build R-20021, running on stock Desire HD, android 2.2
Changing voice - I've browsed the files using Astro and I have a female voice (amongst others)... how do i change the settings to use this voice file?
On my version, I can only turn on/off voice navigation, though i can change the different alert/warning sounds.
Re: speed camera/speed limit database... does anyone know how often this is updated? I'm based in UK and a local mainroad is indicating the incorrect speed limit (it changed from 60 -> 50 about 4years ago)...
Thanks in advance
Does someone recongnize the lagging behaviour of Aura as I describes 2 posts ago?

Me too. I drive with constant speed and the cursor freezes or de-accelerate then accelerates... then de-accelerate again... etc.. With navigon and Igo everything is fine! I have DHD with leddroid but It was the same with stock 1.72
I have exactly the same GPS-lagging problem with this program. Really odd though, as you would expect that the program gets the GPS info from android, just like any other navigation program (i.e. google maps).

Turn by turn navigation on wp7.

Part of my upgrade from orange was free orange maps. Obviously had no need for it with android by decided to check it out.
What surprised me is that its actually a workable sat nav, fully voice guided and it orientates itself via the compass too, same as google navigation (only slower as the accuracy of google navigation is better)
My main point is that why can only orange do this on wp7 and no one else?
Some other carriers do it. They say its officially coming with Mango.

I did read that this morning and im sure with nokias help will be very good. I was just wondering why orange and some other carriers have got apps that do it, yet theres no third party apps that do it properly.
Look for Drive on in the marketplace... i think it may support europe. It's still beta but does turn by turn and voice.
You really need on board storage for pan EU use

Drive on is horrible. There is no landscape, no compass orientation, the voice is so low, you need to hold it to your head to hear it, the voice is unintelligible, the voice gives the next turn too early, the Speedo does not work, no 3d, there is no search by name (you can'tsearch for a business name, you must enter an address.
honestly, bing maps is better than drive on.
/rant
sorry about that. On the plus side, it's free. It is in beta, so maybe these problems will be sorted out.

So far has the cleanest UI for any of the nav Apps. A - B is still my favorite but Morton (the developer) pulled it from the marketplace in lue of copyright stuff...
A - B had 3D view.... I dont know why but for some reason I am hung up on that. Before my Samsung Focus I had the Touch Pro 2 and was running tomtom and then also would use android on it from time to time. I LOVE Google Navigator. That's sort of what A-B reminded me of with the 3d view using the sat/aerial view
I've spoken with the developers of Drive on, Silver Nav and Turn by Turn Nav and they all say 3d view WILL be implemented just not for at least 3 to 4 months. Pretty much right along with Mango. I dont know anything about coding but if an app that has one guy alone working on it could impliment it how could a team of developers working on these other apps not. Unless, again its some copyright stuff which I wouldnt be suprised of.
Just my 2 cents. Right now turn by turn is the best available on the market.

I tried "Turn by Turn" by GPS Tuner and found it fantastic.
The UI is clean and polished.
Voice is loud (English only)
The app is really reliable and fast.
You shall not hesitate.
Turn By Turn = WIN!
Just downloaded the trial 'Turn By Turn' and it works in Australia... The UI is the most polished of all the navs I've seen for WP7 and is WP7 worthy...
After a minute of playing around I committed and bought it...
Turn by Tirn
Turn by Turn is great. Voice is nice and loud and I find it to be accurate. I have also tried Silver Navigator and find it to be OK. I have now loaded the trial version of GPS Voice Navigation and will be trying it today.
I'll be interested to know how GPS Voice Nav works for you. I tried it yesterday, and it had some real problems (I described them in the other thread).

OK tried GPS Voice Navigation and had some issues. Alerts are given in feet rather than tenths of a mile. I can't sit there and try to determine how far 2360 feet is. It also tells me to "turn" about 50 feet before the turn. These are two behaviors that are different than a dedicated GPS and NOT an improvement.
Ok,
After one week of use I can say I find Turn-by-Turn Navigation' really great. It works well.
The only bug I notice is the following: when there is a rundabout, it says "At rundabout..." and nothing more, no direction, it does not tell which exit is the right one (?!) Am I the sole one?
I can't find Turn-By-Turn anywhere in the Marketplace. Any help?
Just went onto marketplace then... Turn By Turn is now at the top of the 'Navigation' section so you shouldn't even have to search...

I'm guessing Xiaomi.eu must do something different with gapps then as Android pay also works with EU ROMs when it's based on Chinese miui which normally doesn't support that.

I have done joined your bug reporting. I hope more people voice their concerns on this topic.
Just to add some info to this... I am on MIUI 9 Global rom 9.6.8.0. I can get Android Auto to work by toggling the USB debugging in Developer settings. It doesn't seem to matter if its on or off, I just have to toggle it and android auto fires right up and connects to the car.
Very weird indeed, there is still some work needed to be done with these roms and Android Auto it seems.
Potential AA solution for Mi Max 3
Hi all - I've just signed up to post this reply, which I hope is helpful to someone at least.
Similar to a number of you, I have struggled to get AA working on the Max 3 (I received my Max 3 last week and it is updated to MIUI 10 Global Stable).
I profess to having no coding/coder/engineering background, but I have solved - with consistency - the lack of compatibility on my Skoda Superb (VAG unit). Where other phones are fine, this wasn't playing nicely.
Essentially, the car would see the phone, but when pressing one of the options on the touch-screen in the car (you choose Android Auto or Mirror Link), it would say that there is an error and to check the device was Mirror Link compatible.
After rebooting/fiddling, I managed to get it to link up once or twice from maybe a dozen tries. What I hadn't done is recorded my process of getting it to work.
Turns out it is pretty simple.
Clearing all apps from the system RAM via the menu button (three lines in MIUI 10, or, swipe up and hold for gestures) makes my Max 3 connect first time to the car without fail. I have read something about apps in the background conflicting with the messages/instructions sent and received, but hey - my layman's solution seems to be doing the trick.
If it works for you, excellent. If not, I apologise and hope a permanent solution comes along! MIUI is a strange beast with some options - some superb (individual data access via 4G and WiFI for example), some really backward (no merging of external SD to internal is criminal!).

I am glad this thread is getting some attention, hopefully Xiaomi sees it....
I just went out and tried your method and unfortunately it didn't work for me, but I certainly appreciate you adding your workaround to this thread.
The workaround for me is to plug in the USB cable to the phone and then toggle the USB debugging and it connects as soon as I either turn on or off USB debugging. So as usual with these Chinese phones something is running in the background that is looking for Android Auto connections and the task managers on these phones are killing it. (toggling USB debugging must start whatever service is needed and it instantly connects) At least that's my theory anyways
Xiaomi.... Android does not need task killers! Please stop trying to "Optimize Memory", Free ram is totally wasted ram! The ram should be full of cached stuff for optimal performance, LOL

Ah sorry to hear this.
Mine won't stay in USB debug mode anyway, but shame it hasn't sorted for you.
If it's an issue with other applications though, it would be good to figure out which one upsets it being detected right away.

Question Maps "Home" - Going nuts - SOLVED

So, I had the Pixel Watch working just fantastic on the Pixel 6. Now I've upgraded to the Pixel 7 Pro. I read somewhere that I had to reset the watch for it to work, and yes, that was necessary, so I did it.
Now I'm in the process of completely setting up the watch again and I'm almost done.
The one thing that is still insoluble for me is the "Maps" app. When it was set up in the Pixel 6, my home address was showing on the watch screen, on the top where it says "Home" - now, with the Pixel 7 Pro, it does not. I have set everything else exactly the same way as before - but this one setting eludes me. I can't find a way to do this in the phone app, or in the watch - somehow, I think is was kinda automatic with the Pixel 6, but I don't really remember (old guy here - 73, but I think my memory is pretty good...I could be wrong).
Everything is updated to hell and back and somehow I'm missing something.
Can anyone help?
BTW, I'm loving the 7 Pro.
Thanks for any help.
Well, I kinda figured it out - I had to use the Maps app on the phone and that updated itself, and then updated the watch. The whole Pixel 7 Pro setup was a tiny bit weird. For example, I could see the watch was connected to Bluetooth, but setting up some parts of the watch would keep saying "can't connect".
A very odd experience.
All is OK now.
Oh, you got it working??? It is a known issue that for some users (me!) the watch will not update or populate home/work (I'm retired so work is HOME ). I have the 6 Pro. I just got it in the Spring so not yet ready to jump aboard another upgrade. I might try to update Maps on the phone but I expect it will not work.
Interesting. I had the Pixel 6 (non pro) when I first got the watch and it worked right the very first time.
This time I used a brand new Pixel 7 Pro, fresh out of the box, and reset the watch. I realized that I had not yet used Google Maps on the phone, so I did and the watch updated at that time.
Like you, I'm retired and needed "home".
Pixel 7 Pro + Pixel watch: Not working for me.
Everything is updated, work + home is defined on the phone, watch refuses to accept any of it.

Updated, rolled back, rebooted. NOTHING has worked.
I wish I could help you guys, but all I did is set "Home" on Google Maps on my phone.
Maybe deleting the Maps from the watch and starting again? I know fred2546 rebooted and all, but honestly all I did is define "Home" in the phone. Probably doesn't mean much but I have the Pixel 7 Pro.
Pixel 6 Pro.
Now I had defined home but I don''t work so did not define my home a second time. But I will also admit that I do not allow Google to track me in my everyday pursuits and movements. I do not have location history enabled or whatever that setting might be.
I sort of agree about not wanting to be tracked, but some time ago I decided I didn't really care. I'm old (73), retired, and live with my cat - they can send me ads, notifications, and whatnot until the end of time - I will never buy anything that's emailed, or a phone call, to me as an offer, and I block a whole lot of calls - I love playing with them.
But, fred2546, did you get it to work?

It did not work. Yesterday I was on my way out to a bike ride and on the watch did a search. First, it opened with Home/Work which remain undefined. But I put a local sushi joint in the search. It came up with the name and then suggested I see the PHONE. Since I needed to meet the bike riding friend I did not follow up.
Obviously, Google knows quite a bit anyway. I use Google Fi as my carrier and I did use Google Maps while touring around Iceland in Sept.
And I've got a few years on you but no cat!
Get a cat from a shelter and you will be handsomely rewarded by its lunatic personality. I love my Mr. PoopiHead, he's very affectionate and a complete loon.
I am not a cat person. I do on occasion feed friends' cats - more than enough for me!
