Write permissions after marshmallow root - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I have m8 sense version that I update to marshmallow Im s-on.
After the update I flash trwp 3.0.0 and boot of gpe and the supersu 2.67
every thing look OK ( I have checked with root checker and I'm rooted) but when Im trying to use app that need write permissions like Adaway that need to write the hosts file
its says that I dont have write permission
And after any reboot the file goes back to default
Any idea ?
Thanks!

Hi all
I figure it out
Just take a look in this thread :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/general/root-root-marshmallow-gpe-supersu-t3242210
You need to flash this zip file :
m8-mmgpe-wp_mod.zip
from the thread above and this will fix the write permissions problem

I agree that the link in Post#2 could have used some additional explanation.
But I thought it was a bit strange that it seems like you spent time looking for another thread, when one with the solution was already provided?

Were you trying to say you flashed a GPE based ROM? Because that is not what "boot" means (boot.img just refers to the kernel, hboot is just the bootloader).
Based on your wording, I can see how the user in Post #2 thought you were on a Sense ROM (and supplied the wp mod for Sense). If you are trying to say you found/posted the right wp mod for GPE, than that makes more sense (no pun intended).

Sir,
This method works on HTC Desire 816 dual sim?

d802 STOCK 80220C Open EUR rootable with custom recovery

For Starters....
I'd just like to stay that this is none of my own work, I've just piggy backed off everyone else's work because I wanted the latest stock rooted with recovery. And i am by no means a developer. But I've seen this been requested a few places so I thought I would share.
This installed perfectly on my sim free 16gb D802 here in the UK, so I cannot see any reason why it wont install on any 16gb D802.
First off, Recovery.
I used Philz touch(6.19.7), I haven't had a single problem with the latest version of this recovery for either stock or aosp roms. And if you wish to use this rom please use his latest recovery for a smooth install as i can not help you otherwise. This rom has NOT been tested on twrp so please do not use it for this rom.
Installation
There has been one report of someone loosing their recovery, if you test this zip, use an app from the play store to boot into recovery to avoid doing a full wipe if recovery isn't their.
If you haven't installed a stock kk rom before with custom recovery, you'll need to download the kitkat baseband from Cloudyfa, if your not sure do it anyway, it wont hurt - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2680948
If you wish to be rooted the easiest way is to make root when prompted as you exit recovery and then install SuperSu from the play store. Alternatively you can download the latest SuperSu and flash it in recovery.
Second download THE ROM - https://mega.co.nz/#!lt9AhYzD!kOjq9_C8Ag-vP1D8UKnbAl3dwx8zmK__BETgGuQdSnE
Mirror - Thanks Wimmme - https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B_CmKeXB6dmrU0ZUbXBKY2Vmanc/edit
Back up personal data
Nandroid Backup
Do A Full Wipe!!
Flash KitKat Baseband if needed.
Flash Rom
Flash SuperSu *Optional, can be flashed or installed after.
Reboot!
If you feel it is a bit sluggish comparing with the custom stock roms, you can always reduce the animation speed in developer settings.
Problems with 4G/LTE?
Get a file explorer with root. Go to root of phone -> system -> build.prop and change ro.telephony.default_network from 9 to 11 and save. Annoyingly will be lost after reboot. If it still doesn't work after this change, try also along with this edit:

Big Thanks and credits to:
LenAsh - For his Flashable zip of 80220C of with this is based on.
Cloudyfa - For his work with the boot mod and KK Baseband. And the clear about his custom boot.
Savoca - For work with boot mod.
Chainfire - For SuperSu
If there is any problems with me doing this please notify me and ill remove it immediately, Thanks.

I can't say for sure as i can not test but, i can tell you that people with 32gb phones have had success with the same flashable zip without the mods for custom recovery if you check their threads. So my guess is yes, it would work, but there is no guarantee, if you try just make sure you have a 32gb rom you've used before and know if working on the phone to flash back to or of course do a nandroid backup.
If anyone has tried this, please post and let me know its running. So I can leave the thread up with confidence. Thanks.

I'm really sorry about that! But to my understanding it shouldn't even be possible since only the system, modem and cust partitions are in the zip so your recovery shouldn't be touched.
Are you sure you didn't flash anything else before hand? what's steps did you take? followed my instructions?
To anyone who wants to test if they have recovery, then I recommend using an app from the play store in order to reach your recovery, that way i think you'll avoid wiping your phone if you truly have no recovery anymore after flashing the zip.
Update
So your post has really made me panic as obviously I only have good intentions and feel terrible about your loss of personal data. But I've double even triple checked everything, not much can go wrong, I just tested the zip with TWRP. And I'm still getting a good install with recovery. You do have the D802 yes? as clearly the zip only contains the patched D802 boot only.
I've literally only just started developing for a few months now after a recent uni project inspired me. Building myself a custom rom adding the features I miss but such problems like this scare me of ever sharing them. Too much responsibility.
Again really sorry, would love to know what has gone wrong. I'll leave the link up for now unless a similar problem occurs in which it will be removed.
Maybe he accidentaly flashed lenash's zipfile instead of yours. Then he would lose custom recovery.

Yeah, I guess your right, I thought I was pretty safe sharing this as like I said it isn't my own work just patched together what the experienced developers have released. But I have work in progress I think people will enjoy. Just didn't realise how responsible i would feel untill i read that message and had a full blown panic haha.
has someone seen any change/improvement vs 20b?
Since kitkat my g2 stutter when playing youtube HD video over wifi when bluetooth is enabled. as soon as I turn it off, it plays smoothly.
I would really like to know if this release fix it before upgrading.

There is too many way to flash custom recovery. For that you can use my signature (there is a link for CWM).
And if you need to know about custom recovery then read these Tutorial - 1, Tutorial - 2, Tutorial - 3 or use search option on XDA.

[Q] Verizon M9 Xposed?

I know there's a number of threads on the main M9 forum for Xposed;
There are a number of users in this thread: Xposed for 5.0.2/5.1 arm64 who are on M9s who say they have xposed working, but none explicitly say they're a VZW M9; and the Verizon users have all said it got messed up when they tried.
I attempted flashing it onto my M9, and came up to a bootloop/HTC logo screen and Android broke, essentially giving me a soft brick.
My question is: has anybody here gotten a Verizon M9 to work with xposed yet? If so, how?
Code:
In my experience, Xposed is broken on a Verizon variant M9,
I am not advocating you flash it to your device as it could brick it like it did mine.
If you do decide to, backups backups backups
Backups are your friend.

... Hah. You linked a different thread, I totally misread and got my tabs mixed up.. My apologies!
What I said stands though.. I scoured the thread which /you/ linked, and found nothing about VZW M9s working, but other carriers yes.
The thread I linked is for 5.1, not 5.0.2; I feel dumb now, lol.
Anyway, be sure to backup before you do, good luck! If you can, please report back how it goes.
I have been using xposed on my vzw soff m9 just fine.
I have found it need to wipe cache after flashing it before booting up.
Only used on deodexed roms though, so can't comment on flashing over stock rooted

Hi guys. Recently updated lollipop, and now I have rooted, boot loader unlocked but s-on m8 with official lollipop. After installing Rom it automatically. Reboots to hboot. Sunshine is the only way. Don't ask this again. The questions gets asked several times a week, and is easy to find the answer to by searching.
You also don't need s-off to flash a ROM.
You also never need to flash boot.img separately to install a ROM on this phone. This only applies to older devices, so erase that notion from your brain, as its incorrect.
thanks for answer, but why so aggresive

As for which ROM to use... I like to stay stock but with root, no knox and deodexed. If you favor AOSP, there's many to choose from in the development sections.
Thank you ... worked perfectly on OH3 ! Took your suggestion on staying with root/no knock/deodexed. Know of any fix for the extra spaces bug with text suggestion ?

Downloaded keyboard fix multiple times from different mirrors. When trying to flash zip from extsd it says invalid signature !

Hmm, that's strange. I just downloaded it and flash it and didn't encounter any errors. You can toggle signature check off in Philz Touch Recovery from the Install Zip menu.
Thanks disabling signature check worked. And a huge thank you for posting a fix for that extremely annoying bug - it works perfectly !

I followed all the instructions from original thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-2-sprint/general/how-to-root-nk2-fix-boot-loop-ne2-to-t3049036
and even updated with success superU to latest, but Super U stopped working.

Not sure what happened in your case. If you're on OH3 and would like root as well as the ROM being deknoxed and deodexed, feel free to try my mine at the thread below.
