3rd Party Gamepad Controller for use on both Gen 1 & Gen 2 (4k) ? - Fire TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have both Gen 1 & Gen 2 AFTVs (in different rooms). I'd like to get gamepad controllers that work on both so we can move from one room to the other as needed.
I have seen a lot of talk but no real clear info on them.
The ones that seem to get the most attention are:
Sony Playstation Dualshock 4
or
Logitech Wireless Gamepad F710
or
MAD CATZ...
MCB3226600C2/04/1 MOBILE Gamepad C.T.R.L.R
MCB3226200C2/04/1 MICRO Gamepad C.T.R.L.R
or
XBOX 360 wireless controller & USB receiver
Any recommendation between these options??
thx for the help!

The Playstation 4 controller "dualshock 4" works great for me and out of the box.

does everyone think the PS 4 Dualshock controller is the way to go?

The ps4 controller works great for me also.
If you already have one, try it out.
You can read my thread here for some pointers.
On page 2 one user even linked a fix for users having trouble. Although it seems the 4k boxes are working out of the box.

[XOOM 2] Xoom 2 ME - Joypad support?

Since Honeycomb provides support for various game controllers, I thought I'd give my Xbox 360 controllers a try. Neither the wired or wireless (via MS USB/wireless adapter) devices are recognised by my Xoom 2 ME.
I am using a USB OTG cable that works perfectly with a flash drive and a mouse.
Logcat shows no entries at all when the Xbox controllers are plugged in, which perhaps suggests that the stock firmware doesn't support them.
Has anyone else been able to get USB joypads or other game controllers to work with the Xoom 2 natively? I'm avoiding IME hacks and suchlike as I would like something that will work with the new controller APIs.
I know there's only about three people in the world (other than me) who actually bought the Xoom 2 ME, but surely one of you has a joypad you can test out?
I spotted a cheap-ish controller (£17) when out shopping and decided to give it a try.
I got the Power-A Air-Flo PS3 controller, which actually has an overall layout similar to an Xbox 360 controller (which is what I'm used to).
This was recognised by the X2ME straight away and I was able to have a quick game of Cordy with it. As a bonus, and since it's a standard HID controller, it works on my Ubuntu laptop as well.
So perhaps the X2ME is a bit fussier about its controllers than some other tablets, or perhaps there's additional tweaking needed to get the Xbox controllers working.
My ultimate aim is to be able to plug this tablet into a TV in a hotel room via HDMI and use it as a portable games console. Currently I'm having trouble with the Micro-HDMI to HDMI connection and I'm not sure if it's a problem with the cable, the socket on the X2ME, or some software issue. So far I have been able to get a picture to appear on the TV only intermittently and haven't yet had both the game controller and the HDMI output working at the same time.
Edit: Have just managed to get the HDMI out running for long enough to test with the controller and it worked really well. Once I have figured out the reason for the intermittent HDMI output, it'll be time to find games available for the X2ME that support an external controller
I realise I'm pretty much just talking to myself on this thread, so here's a picture to liven things up ;-)

i just tried two usb controllers
logitect rumblePad 2(normal pc game controller) that's works perfectly and a logitect chillstream (windows recognize it as an xbox360 controller) that's is not working (although powerup and tablet recognized it )
Thanks for the info. It is starting to look like there may be an issue recognising Xbox-type controllers, though it's based on a rather small sample at this stage

Very cool. Thanks for the info! I may try and get my Classic Controller + WiiMote to do the same thing via Bluetooth, which I've done before on my old G2.

Accesories for Note as a Gaming Device

Is the SixAxis app compatible with the Note? The SixAxis Compatibility Checker force closes on mine. I don't actually have a SixAxis controller, but I'm planning to buy one if it works.
Also, which controller to buy? Will a Wireless PS2 Controller work? or just the PS3 Controller? How about an XBox Wireless Controller?
Another thing: how do you keep your notes "standing" in landscape? I saw several docks, but all of them are on portrait mode.
Thanks in advance guys~!
+1 for all question.
Sixaxis works great with my ps3 controller.
XBox360 Controller dont use bluetooth so they would not work.
Xbox Controller might work once ICS is out, using the OTG adapter.

Best Gamepad solution for the Nexus 7?

Hello,
I am so impressed by how well the Nexus 7 handles gaming specially N64 emulation that I want to use a game controller and it sems there are a few options.
Firstly, I am familiar with using a PS3 controller via the OTG cable unrooted and also with Sixaxis once rooted and the option to map the buttons for touch screen only games which looks brilliant.
My big hands prefer xbox controllers so I wondered what options there are for xbox controllers in a similar environment? I'd rather not use it wired but if that was the only drawback opposed to PS3 and Sixaxis then I'd live with it..
But what gamepad solutions are there for playing Android games and Retro emulators?
Thanks
The sixaxis is your best bet. I was in the exact same situation, wanted an Xbox controller but didn't want it wired. Problem with that is Microsoft uses 2.4ghz which the nexus 7 doesn't have built in. The sixaxis is Bluetooth so it connects fine and I've never had a problem with it on any device I've used it on as a gamepad.

It is unfortunate that the device needs to be rooted for sixaxis to work, right?
I have large hands as well, but I only have wireless Xbox controllers and when I tried using the wireless PC kit on a tablet (Cube U30GT with Android 4.1), it got recognized in the home screen, but no game was able to use it. I didn't want to purchase a cable Xbox controller just for use with Android. So I got a PS3 controller which works well as you described. I have no problem playing games with it (Dead Trigger, Shadow Gun, GTA, Max Payne, SNES Emulators so far). Playing older games with the PS3 controller is better than with an Xbox controller in my opinion, because the Xbox controller has a rubbish D-Pad, which SNES games use a lot. Remapping touch controls to the PS3 with Sixaxis Controller app is fairly good and easy, once you get the hang of it.
If you don't care about the cable and have one laying around, an Xbox 360 controller should work, at least I've seen a lot of people use one with their android devices.
There are a lot of custom controllers for android devices, most of which use bluetooth. But they are either more expansive than Xbox/PS3 or not very well built in my opinion.

[Q] Best 3rd party controller out-of-box

I have some games on my Fire TV I'd like to play, but need a game controller. I don't currently have any compatible controllers, so I thought I might as well buy the official one. However, it looks like both it and the Nyko pad are on back-order for around a month. Rather than wait, I'd like to get a decent third party controller, preferrably wireless. Can anyone say definitively which controller (other than the official one or Nyko) is the most functional out-of-box. FYI, my Fire TV is unrooted with current firmware, so anything requiring root is out.
Here are some of my current choices:
Microsoft Xbox 360 controller for Windows (included USB receiver)
Logitech F710, wireless USB receiver
Logitech F310, wired USB
The Xbox receiver supposedly supports up to 4 controllers. Would the Fire TV and any apps currently out support them? I'm partial to Logitech gear, but I read somewhere that on the Fire TV the F710 uses "xinput mode", emulating an Xbox controller. Does this mean it would work just as well as the Xbox or a close second? While I prefer wireless, I listed the F310 for the obvious benefit of not having to recharge or replace batteries. I don't play enough to where a cord would really bother me. If there are major caveats with the wireless ones, I might just get the F310.
Amazon controller would be best in my opinion for full compatibility. I have an ouya controller which works very well and waiting on the nyko play pad pro cause I picked it up cheap on amazon so I couldn't pass it up. If I prefer the nyko, I'll end up getting rid of the ouya one most likely or keep it to use with the other aftv.

Thanks for the input. I had assumed Amazon had best availability on the Fire Controller, but I found it on Best Buy's eBay Store. Supposedly will deliver by Jan 6-13. We'll see.

[Q] which plug and Play game controller?

Hi,
I'm wanting a good game controller for use with game emulation. I have connected my PS3 controller by Bluetooth but it cant be used at the same time as the firetv remote.
Can anyone recommend me a good one? I don't mind wired controller, just want a plug and play solution
Thanks
Hard Candy controllers are great and they are plug and play. Plus they take regular batteries so you don't have to worry about charging yur controller. I personally hate the idea of a rechargable controller.
I'm using the Logitech f710 controller which comes with a usb Wi-Fi dongle, seems to work fine on the games I've tested so far.
