Awesome mod, but I would be a bit worried about those exposed holes to the elements.

Thanks, I put a filter over the opening inside it so it will prevent dust and such getting inside.

So are you going to send me your laser?

Cool! There are two small holes on the back, for microphones, hardly visible. Cold be enough to make such holes for loudspeaker.

Is it difficult to take the back cover off?

yea, not too hard but its held on with adhesive so you need to pry it off its a bit tough. You would need a new back to replace since the old adhesive wont hold again.

Really want to try this! Could you share with us maybe where to get the back covers/tools to do this?

Back covers are sold on ebay, or if you google it other places as well. You would just need to heat the back up a bit with a heat gun or blow dryer and use a thin tool preferably plastic (so you dont damage the frame of the phone) to pry one edge up and start pulling off the back.

I had one of the black full screen ones and I loved it. It made the phone look bad ass, the only problem was it screwed with some of the accelerometer based games I was playing because it effectively blacked out the screen when viewing from an off angle so I had to remove it.

I keep reading how the buttons don't work with the big ones that's why I want one that covers screen only. I ordered 2 one long one and now that short one above. The long one will come first but I will just cut it to screen size.

I've bought 3 or 4 long ones 2 from ebay and 2 from daydeal.
Both from ebay did not allow the buttons to be used.
The first one from daydeal my current one works great but started peeling up in the corners so I ordered an new one from daydeal they changed up who they got it from and now the buttons don't work with it.
So now im back to the peeling one and shopping around for a new protector!

im looking for a metal back cover as well. preferably a white one
There are only cases, but no back covers that are metal. It would only damage your phone if you get the battery cover off of it with metal.

I am hoping they release the ZAGG leather skins like they have for other phones. Once that is applied, nothing else is needed!
http://www.zagg.com/leatherskins/index.php
have you really had a SGS3 yet to say that you dont like it??? Geez.... have some patience and you might find that its much better than it looks. Besides getting a metal or alloy piece will be much more scratch prone and that is not something you would like to have!
Alright calm yer beans I was just curious, like im sure many others are.

sure, im curius as well, to see why half the reviewers of the S3 say the rear cover is brilliant and nothing like the photos show, and the other half insist that its 'plasticky'
then i can decide about covers. However i have already preordered some a couple of cases to go with the phone anyway as im sure it will be a while before they will ever make proper rear covers to replace.

A metal case would really screw up your reception, and stop a lot of things like GPS and NFC from working. Take a look at the old transformers

Review: tpu case with flip lid.

Just purchased this from china along with a few other cases, this is probably the first tpu case with a flip lid similar to those leather one's, this case has a slightly grainly rubbery finished.
Not bad, looks tough/protective. Although I dislike rubbery covers, since I use my phone in my pocket. It makes them harder to get out and pick up link.

I agree, not a easy task, too much heat will damage the screen.
All the professional dis-assembly videos on YouTube don't even try to remove the screen...what does that tell you.
Well most of the time its not necessacery because most of the time the digitizer is replaced also when the screen is broken its all one piece. But its difficult but not impossible like I said. The trick is to apply heat I one area and insert a razor blade between the screen and glass. Work your way around applying heat.

That sounds really good. I don't mind my surround being blue, but I do want the screen/soft keys black. I'd have to find a way to make the home button black too. Perhaps paint a white button black with black lexan body paint and swap at the same time.
