Connect Pixel C to Mac? - Pixel C Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This may seem stupid but I just got my pixel c and I can't figure out how to connect it to my mac. It didn't come with a cable to connect it to USB. All it came with was a wall adapter to Pixel C charging cable. I need to connect to the computer to root it. Help?

Sorry to say it but you're going to have to buy a USB-C to USB a cable.
But be careful there are heaps of dangerous cheap cables on Amazon so make sure you buy from this safe cable list from the nexus 6p reddit https://m.reddit.com/r/Nexus6P/comments/3robzo/google_spreadsheet_for_usbc_cables_with_benson/

is there a usb otg cable that'll power the phone and allow usb connections?

i like to use my nexus 5/7 to connect to my computer at home through VNC but it draws up quite a bit of power. Is it possible to have a OTG cable that'll connect to the MicroUSB port of the phone and then two cables come out, one that has female MicroUSB port to charge the phone, and a second cable that's a female USB port so I can connect a USB mouse to?
Thanks

I have not tried this myself but read on other devices that OTG Y cables will do what your asking.

Be warned that sometimes the specific device will not support concurrent charging. The cable link above specifically mentions the Nexus 7. Read the reviews.

I have that cable, it does charge the phone but stick doesn't get mounted. I haven't tried to make it work or anything because I don't use it.

Does the 5X come with cable that works with USB 3.0 and 2.0?

Does the nexus 5x come with a cable (I think it's called type c to type a) that works with USB 3.0 and 2.0? Is it really necessary to be able to connect the 5x to a computer especially if I'm going to put a custom ROM on it?
No. Only the 6P comes with the Type C to Type A cable. The 5X comes with a Type C to Type C cable only.
You have to buy a compatible cable or adapter.

Nope. Just ships with a single USB 2.0 Type C to Type C cable and A/C wall charger. If you want to plug it into a computer to unlock the bootloader (or connect to pre-existing Type A chargers), you need to purchase a separate Type C to Type A cable.
Edit: ninja'd lol
The 5x only comes with a USB c to USB c cable for the charger. I bought a USB c to USB a cable with my 5x from google. I think you could use an adaptor (c to a) and use the cable that comes with it.
Darn! Didn't know this. I have my precious 5x in front of me ready to root and I must now order another cable and wait two more days. Gee golly whooosh darn!

Can I send files from the Nexus 5x to a pc via a USB OTG cable?

Hello,
I want to buy a usb-c cable for my Nexus 5x. But I also need a USB-c otg cable. So I would like to know:
Do I need both? A usb cable without otg in order to connect it with a pc and also a usb otg cable to connect it with other devices or is a usb otg cable everything I need? Is it possible to send images from my Nexus 5x to my pc via a usb otg cable?
Either way you'll need two different cables to do both since the USB OTG will go to a USB A female connector and you'll need a male connector to plug into your computer. I'm not sure if it would properly give up host to your PC when you tried to connect to it anyway.
Also in the future you might get more help in the Q/A sections for these types of things.

You aren't blind. Only usb-c.
what a joke. no i have to wait for amazon to ship me an according cable..
Fortunately for me the Nintendo Switch uses USB-C, so with the console and the extra accessories/controllers I purchased I have several USB-A > USB-C cables.
Lucky for me my car charger was a USB A to USB C

You sure your computer doesn't have a USBC plug on it? Even this laptop I'm sitting at has one, and its a sh***y HP.
Point is, of course, they DID ship you a USB data cable, and USB-C has been around for years now, so why would they also pack an A-to-C?
It certainly is no "joke". I think you will find that even laptops are moving away from USB-A. Pretty soon, there won't be any left.
Yes I thought that as well, pc's are still not fully transferred to USB C, moral of google is you pay more and get less lol, got one with my 6p, luckily my pc has USB c but for the folk who don't then this is a dumb move from google for not including one.
I'm trying to get android auto working between my google xl2 and my 2018 sportage. I purchased a usb a (car has larger usb port) which goes to usb c for pixel. It seems it's supposed to be easy to set up however it seems to me like the cable isn't working. Are their any special requirements for cable?
My HP 15 laptop is only about a year old and it does not have a USB-C port. I made the mistake of shooting about a ten minute video on my Pixel. Transferring wirelessly is not a viable option. I uploaded it to YouTube with it set on private and it took 24 hours. I then tried uploading to Google Drive which "only" took about 8 hours. Sending it from my Pixel to my laptop via Bluetooth failed entirely with nothing even starting. I haven't seen any USB-A to C cables anywhere. I agree with Ady1976, dumb move by Google to not include an A to C cable, or at least an adapter.
Even the OG pixel XL didn't have an a to c cable. When I got my og pixel xl, it sucked at first, but i got cables and adapters from Amazon. Now I don't remember the last time I used an a to c cable with my pixel 2 XL My car charger is type c, my hp laptop I got last year has type c.

Accessories usb a to type c adapter recommendations

Hi all,
As per title, can anyone recommend a good quality usb a to type c adapter so that I can do data transfer between laptop and 9 pro? , as there's no tyoe c port on the laptop. Thanks
i've had good luck with Choetech from Amazon
Yeah I picked up some cheap ones on Amazon that do the trick just fine. I don't remember, but does OnePlus provide a USB to usb-c dongle in the box like Google does for their pixel phones?
The one from the 8 pro is what I use and thankfully working since a couple others I tried didn't work.
Use OnePlus cable Usb A to Usb C.
I have usb type C on my laptop, but is for charging...
