Marshmallow root - Droid Turbo 2 General

So my turbo just updated to marshmallow, and I'm curious as to whether that opened the door to root and possibly bootloader unlock. BTW the Moto x force thread needs to be moved from this one. They're 2 different phones. I mean they're the same, but anything on Verizon is always going to be different. We all know this. Chime in guys!

Too soon to tell if it opened up any possible exploits, best thing is to keep an eye on this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/droid-turbo-2/general/root-discussionthink-tank-t3239979
The X-Force question came up before, mods said it's basically the same phone so it's not getting it's own section.

If anything, it patched a bunch of exploits and made it that much harder to root the phone. Unless Motorola does the same thing as they did with the one Moto X on Verizon, I doubt the bootloader will ever be unlocked.

I feel like this could happen one of 4 ways.
1. Good ol diggin round code.
2.Motorola employee helps us.
3.someone me (I've tried) but both Motorola reps and Verizon reps are unhelpful but someone might do better. Maybe get it " escalated"
4. Just hope....
Also I just really think it's possible to get past the people who know nothing about it and find someone willing to help.. Then again maybe just simply wishful thinking.

^^^This. Whoever has had success cracking BLs on Verizon Moto devices in the past might help, or at the very least point you in the right direction. You also might be able to get some of the CM devs that have worked on VZW Moto devices in the past.

I know Verizon has been notorious about locking their phones down for a while now, but can it really be completely locked? There has to be something there that can be cracked right? Nothing is impossible right?

Hey, guys, I haven't checked in for awhile, but would someone be willing to work on it for a bounty? I mean if we could pool together somewhere between $500-$1k wouldn't it be worth it for someone who has a ton of knowledge in this comeover and help?
I'd be willing to donate to that cause even though my sig says otherwise...

Same here I second that, seems the hard part would be setting this up, I mean this is a great phone if devs would come on board

Rooted and installed twrp KINZIE today. Followed a italian tutorial for the Moto X Force. Android 6.0

I would pay too if somebody hopped on the developer train for the X-Force !

No he has the moto x force it's confusing they shouldn't be posting in this thread they can root this is about obtaining a root exploit. To be honest I don't care that he rooted his phone it's not such a triumph the damn phone is unlocked.

There is a bounty thread started in Q&A
http://forum.xda-developers.com/droid-turbo-2/help/root-droid-turbo-2-bounty-t3339484

I want to change the ugly, unintuitive material design soft buttons.
I know that verizon locks down their phones.
I want to root so that I can get back the old Holo soft buttons (ics, jelly bean, kitkat) and maybe holo blue.
I know from experience that root can make a device much more laggy.
This is my main and only phone that I can use, so I don't want to take many chances.

Who told you root makes a phone lag that is 100% false. Anyway there is no root method at this time.

I have a droid razr that I rooted in jelly bean. Since that, it's more laggy and unresponsive. Probably because of the root processes running in the background

There is no such thing as "root process". Root is just about rights to access particular part of the system, run specific commands or applications.

Why should I root my phone?

Is there a reason for me to root? Everyone is talking greek to me I am a complete noob when it comes to this. I have tethered my phone with no problems, I'm not really interested in overclocking. So is there any reason at all I would want to go through the headache of trying to figure all this stuff out and root my phone?
One of the major reasons I root is so I can use custom roms, edited versions of the stock os, that are modified to include different features and improve the speed of the device, others love rooting for the ability to customize anything you want to.

None
While all those are valid, none of those exist; and even the current Root is not NAND write enabled.
After seeing all the problems in rooting combined with threads regarding phones REALLY acting up after, I would say ... don't root unless and until you see a custom ROM you like.
Personally, anything Rooting would get me, FroYo will get me too; and while a faster custom FroYo would get my attention; Verizon WILL release Froyo in 2010 at some point. I'll be waiting.

Just don't hold your breath! On the WinMo side, at least, they're a few quarters behind the OS update schedule, mainly thanks to HTC's Sense(less)UI. Since we have a layer of HTC stuff on top of Android, you can expect to wait just as long for 2.2.

I'd bet we'll have a FroYo port waaay before VZ pushes it out over the air. I think (!) HTC's Software Quality Assurance is more thorough (and slower than) Google's Quality Assurance, or at least Google would rather push an update out with fewer features whereas HTC will wait for all features to work. AFAIK, VZ has very little to add or subtract to the mix -- how long does it take to recompile against a new framework and kernel?

I miss messing with stuff... i came from a G1 were i was running a different rom every 3 days it seemed like.. i was constantly messing with things with it just for ****s and giggles
I do feel really locked down with the incredible in knowing that i cant really mess with anything, the only thing ive been able to change is the boot screen and put the nexus animation on that instead of the stupid verizon symbol.
Too be honest though nothings even wrong with my phone whatsoever... the OS is perfectly fine and does everything i want it too, i cant really complain about anything with the software on it now... its just that want to customize thats driving my desire to root.. moreso then any actual need as everything works fine

+1. There is not much that comes to mind with regard to things I'd like to improve with the DI. For example, the phone has more app storage than I could ever use, so there is no need for A2SD. And the processing speed is satisfying, so gaining OC'd kernel isn't a big priority. However, I simply miss being able to **** around with and compare various ROM's and mods, even if they are unneccessary on this device.
I have no real reason to root just yet, well then again I'm totally new to android, so I'm not exactly sure what rooting entails. All I want is stock 2.2 froyo, the day that is ported over to our phone is the day I will be rooted.
Can't wait..

Hi all
Just got an Inc 2. why else would I be posting here ,,,, anyhow I gotta have root mainly just to remove bloat, really undecided on which way though, HTC unlock or a full S off through the downgrade revolutionary method, I'm not realy a flashaholic, I would like to be able to use set CPU or the likes, for battery savings and maybe a little overclocking, phone seems pretty responsive if you ask me just coming from an Eris but I haven't loaded any apps on it yet either, heck I haven't even activated it yet (guess it's a little hard to let Ginger go ) I'd post a screen shot of her but she's a little shy.
So what's everyone thoughts on this if you had just recieved a brand new Incredible 2, with 2.3.4 Gingerbread, 5.10.605.9, 2.6.35.9 kernel; and now the news of Official ICS update soon to be released which way would you go to root HTC or S off?
Can you overclock/undervolt stock kernel?
Is it possible to flash a different kernel?
Any and all input on this will be greatly appriciated, Thanks In Advance

You're gonna wanna downgrade and s-off. It's easier to flash ROMs, also you can flash radios that way. It's a slightly longer process to do so, but its worth not spending extra time when flashing ROMs. Mainly because you have to flash the kernel in fastboot if you use HTC unlock.

Thanks for your quick response, thats just it I'm not realy a flashaholic and if I see a rom that I would like to flash, a little extra work wouldn't bother me stability speed and no issues have presedence for me, not worried about look at what I got, just overall balanced goodness

It doesn't. It downgrades the hboot version. Now, if you s-off, you can flash any radio you wish. The recommended one is either the latest .1111 or .0722.

Yes I have the latest.1111 with 2.3.4 Gingerbread, 5.10.605.9, kernel 2.6.35.9, it downgrades more than just the hboot doesn't it? I thought it downgraded the whole OS.
It will put you back to 2.2 or 2.3 I think but it does not affect radio. You van then flaws one of the rooms based off the latest stock update ( what you have) if that's what you want. Also, you can't oc stock kernel, use dresdills 21. Also if u use the HTC method you are guaranteed void warranty cause they know what you done. If you use other method you can revert to completely stock if you need too and they will never know if you need to because of hardware issues. Charging ports have been known to go bad so I would keep that in mind...

Yes I've heard about that kernel, I'm pretty sure that once you root they know it cause all there tracking, or most of there tracking software goes offline for them, and they know that the only reason, for the most part, that the phone dissapeared is root. I thought htc unlock still gave you a warranty although more limitted. And yes I learned from the Eris when the phone is on the charger be extra extra carefull with it, even if it meens don't touch it.
Root doesn't take out anything, and I'm not sure what tracking your referring to anyways. The only way anything would be took out is if you do it, or the rom you install does. If they know you done it, and you think it may be more limited, that's just a way of saying now we have a reason to deny you anytime we feel like it. But if your set on that, do it, not gonna argue its your phone could care less, you wanted opinions you got it, either way good luck...

I never said that root in and of itself took out anything, it's the stuff we take out once we root. Your not sure what tracking I'm referring to, Look up Carrier IQ .
I charged this phone turned it on bypassed activation shut off the networks just to play around with it and it was still reporting network traffic, How, Why?
This phone has the ability to get past the switch thats thrown when you shut off your data connections. I did just activate the phone, I had forgot to turn data back on before doing so, but it didn't matter; after phone booted up and was settling in I saw the 3g icon pop up in the status bar, thats what reminded me, [I thought I shut that off] and sure enough it was still off, yet it still sent data, but where to? I'm not set on anything yet, yes I'm trying to get many opinions and I thank you for your input this phones been out for a while now and many things have changed since it was first released, like ICS, and htc unlock of the hboot. Much of the activity about rooting this phone is a year or more old and with the deals and such that are being thrown around now to move the remaning stock off shelves there will be ( I'm sure ) many newcomers to the phone and this forum so an updated collection of thoughts on this I figured would be welcome especially if there was some input from the veterans of this phone. And again thank you

[Q] chain fire auto root

Okay i know the answer is somewhere out there already but i looked and could not find.. has anyone tried chainfires auto root for verizon note 4.. there is a link to the verizon model and i have not seen any report on this. Please answer my stupid question lol. I know it has been talked about but simply cannot find anything on this..
IIRC it requires an unlocked bootloader. Thus, no dice.
They're is as yet no root, it'll show up in this forum when it happens. No reason to ask about xyz root method, none work.

Yeah thats what i figured.. i know the boot is on lockdown but i didnt know why they would have a root method if it was still locked down... okay thank you.. i pray to the phone gods for a solution.. i used to have the g2 and that boot was locked down and i think it still is.. they had some loky patch file that walked around the boot.. is this not an option for the note.. i dont know much about this level of information lol. Im just a simple geek that has crack flashed phones into bricks and then saved them from pure persistence!
Wait had anyone actually tried it. LOL 15K bounty but it's been out there for weeks hahahaha.
That's because the is a DEV ed. Of the phone that has an unlocked bootloader that's why it's available if that wasn't the case I am pretty sure chain would have claimed the thousands of dollars just waiting there for him and if he didn't want it he would donate it.

Yeah, I stumbled upon bogus sites like those back when I was trying to see if anybody ever rooted an Asus Fonepad 8. You know if someone rooted a relatively obscure device like that, there would also be a thread about it here.
For all of those that "stumble" upon this "root" method......don't post a question on if it works, just try it and see if it works......simply put, the Top Devs that have achieved root and unlocking bootloaders on various devices have not come up with a stable method as of yet, one of them does this type of work for a living, why would you think some third party site is able to crank out a root method on a device that just became available to the public and claims to have root for devices that do not exist yet??????????
Clearly, it will fail and will ask you to pay a fee for professional technical remote support. Then it will tell you they can not help and there is no refund.
Remember this, Root is NOT for everyone.

Root exploit was found by devs but it is dangerous. They are currently looking for other methods. Fortunately since those devs *can* root, they can dive deeper into the paritions and system to look for it. Easier to find a key inside a house then standing outside the gate.
Fortunately the LG phones are pretty solid and I personally need to change nothing. Outside of Xposed for Statusbar tweaks and themes, it is fine.
Full root..... Whatever. I want unlocked boot.
No, this is a scam/garbage...don't do it, won't work.

I agree. First LG phone for me. Previous devices were Samsung dating back to S2 all the way through S5. Felt that the removable battery and SD were too important to me to go with S6. Thus far, I'm much more impressed with the LG UI than Touchwiz. It's good without root. Could be great with it. Only two things I would use root for on this device. All of the ads are driving me nuts (short drive) and I really want to regain unlimited tethering. Fortunately, have T-Mobile so at least have 5 gb of tethering.
Have ur Pay Pal rdy LG4 owner's gonna be first to pay for su access when it does release supposedly.
What's the angle of this website? Do they hijack your phone and make you pay?

Root in the Future

As many of you know the Nokia 8.1 is probably not going to get a method for a unlocked bootloader since H.M.D global shut down the exploit/way to aquire it.
I was wondering if there would be any reason that my beloved 8.1 couldn't be rooted by apps like Kingroot when they get the ability to root android PIE.
I didn't realize upon buying the phone that Nokia was so against rooting and im kinda bummed out that as of yet the phone isn't rootable yet. Might even trade it for a Pocophone and take the lack of NFC for granted
Do have mine unlocked and rooted. But the root is a messy task which will most likely take away OTA updates because any tampering is an end to the incremental OTA. Then flashing stock is a tough task too, because the awesome people at FIH Mobile forgot to disable fuse when bl is unlocked. Also, the process is kinda complicated and still under testing Given the complication, I'm sure it won't be freely available because it starts off by using paid tools to trigger debug mode.
I really didn't know that there's almost no way to root this phone when I bought it 2 months ago, but luckily the only reason I've rooted my previous phone (Mi A1) was because of Gcam which is supported out of the box on this one. So it's fine for me, but I do see that no rooting method could be an issue for some people.

I have already replaced the phone because of lack of root / development for this phone. Hated the stock ROM because lots of things didnt work with it (samsung gear watch, some wireless APs, car navigation, etc etc) and without the development this would never be solved.
Also I have expected better camera for the price of the phone.
WIll never buy any HMD device ever again.

XDA is all about root and ROMs
Every one clever would find out first BEFORE buy Nokia phones about the impossibility of rooting those.
I'm sure when root is possible in future ( some geek will find a way, its a phone and not a high end secure government secret thing lol ) more pple will come see this thread.
Mark my words :good:
You're right. At the end of the update cycle I like to install LOS or likewise. Not for the sake for Adaway only.

Agree.
Just like what we're doing at home. We're using Samsung Note 3 (Cyanogenmod rom) as online phone for local line. Before that, the phone with default OS was too lagging and cannot even install the online phone app I need.

Motorola/Lenovo seems to be the last castle of root/development.
I was an early adopter of G7 (I bought it on initial release). As soon as BL unlock support added, BAM! rooted!
How easy it was and I am not developer
