Lockscreen Curiousity - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have recently installed Marshmallow to my G3 and have noticed that on the lockscreen when using the PIN lock, there is an ugly grey box around the numbers. Is this the same for other people?
The other thing is I have noticed the "NONE" and "SWIPE" for the lockscreen are greyed out. I have cleared the Credentials within Security > Certificate Management screen and my phone is not encrypted at all. Has anyone got any ideas of how to resolve this?

Disable Pin Lock and the other options should then be available.

Hmm, I tried that and fail to see what I have missed.
Close to doing a factory reset now which is not ideal.

Can not remove pattern unlock

I just got a Note 2 for AT&T, I rooted, flashed Team Asylums slim and fast ROM, and everything was been awesome until... I decided to set up a pattern unlock, and did. But I lost my lock screen shortcuts so I decided to remove the pattern. When I go into setting and enter my patter again I only have the option to enter a new pattern, a pin or a password -- the none, slider and face option are grayed out **see picture below** Any ideas?
Is your device encrypted?
No I do not have it encrypted and it is not an administrator issue, I think it is related (aside from my stupidity) to a VPN app (open VPN for android) that I started setting up but deleted before I finished. I'm guessing it left a security certificate in the system that is preventing me from going without a secure lock screen. I think it is time to swallow my pride/factory wipe and stop goofing around with settings I don't understand.

[Q] Swipe unlock screen comes on even when turned off

Hello,
My Galaxy Note 2 has been doing something strange the last few days.
The swipe to unlock screen comes on in addition to any other locking screen lock mode (pattern, pin). Even if I disable "With swipe lock" under settings/Lock Screen.
The swipe screen also ignores any settings under "Lock screen options" and always comes up with the default shortcuts and camera. Which means anyone can get to my email, browser or camera without unlocking the phone.
This seems like a bug. Anyone else encountered this?

similar issue
i had similar problem... the lockscreen image used to flash often.... on my stock rom...
anyways.... its not happening now on JoelDroid N2 V3
It turned out to be some stupid Homebase app that installed itself along with another app. I'm not sure which app was the offender since I uninstalled a bunch at and haven't reinstalled them all yet to figure out which one it was.

[Q] Now that I've updated to KitKat 4.4.2 - how to get camera widget on lock screen

I updated my AT&T Note II to KitKat 4.4.2 last night, via AT&T OTA update.
According to the new features list, I should now be able to access the camera app from the lock screen, right?
But now joy.
All my Googling thus far indicates that I should first enable lock screen widgets by going to "Settings -> Security", and turn on a check-box for "Enable Widgets". I have no such option, or check-box, on the "Settings -> Security" page. And I no such similar options on the "Settings -> Lock screen" page either.
I've also seen instructions (albeit for other Samsung devices) that seem to indicate that I should first disable (or turn off) the lock screen altogether. In other words, set the lock screen to "None". And then re-enable it. It seems that I can not set the lock screen option to "None", after the KitKat upgrade. In other words, it seems that after the KitKat update, I am now forced to choose either Pin or Password lock screen. I have only two options available on the "Settings -> Lock screen -> Screen lock" page now - Pin, or Password. All other options are gray'd out, saying "Turned off by administrator, encryption policy or credential storage".
Anybody else seeing this after the KitKat upgrade?
Anybody have any hints on how to get the camera, or any other, lock screen widgets to show up on the lock screen?
EDIT: Solution found. See post #11 below

Thanks for the suggestion 06Silverado... but no joy.
There is no such option on the Settings -> Lock screen -> Lock screen widgets page.
Here is what I see (see attached screen-shots)
1 - The Settings [My device] page
Followed by tapping on Lock screen
2 - The Settings [My device] -> Lock screen page

Very interesting... your Settings -> Lock screen page looks very different from mine.
In answer to your question... Yes, I took the ota 4.4.2 update last night.
Here is a screen-shot of my Settings -> About device page
And... if I go to the bottom of the Settings -> About device -> Status page, it says "Official"
I wonder what could be causing the difference????

It also looks like you have a Lock screen = Swipe.
That's not even an option on my device (it's gray'd out, and says Turned off by administrator, encryption policy or credential storage).
As shown in the attached screen-shot
I wonder if a security policy of some sort got installed on my device. It's a personal phone (as in not managed by my employer's MDM solution), so I'm not sure how any such policy would have gotten installed. I certainly didn't knowingly do so.

I think I figured out how to re-enable all the screen lock types.
Following the suggestion in this stackexchange thread... I cleared credential storage by going to Settings -> Security -> Clear credentials
Now I'm able to set a screen lock = Swipe
As in, all those screen lock types that were gray'd out are no longer gray'd out.
And I'm finally able to add the Camera widget to the lock screen
Holy crap... what an ordeal that was.
I wonder how the heck my credential storage got dorked.
Oh well... moving on.
Thanks for all your help/suggestions 06Silverado
Having another set of screen-shots to compare/contrast, helped alot.

Camera widget doesn't show
Hi all,
I am having the similar problem here where my camera shortcut on lockscreen doesn't show up
However I am able to choose other lockscreen option such as pattern, pin, password, etc...
I have read the solution given from pdfruth in post #11, but the "clear credential" option is disabled
I just update my note 2 into kitkat 4.4.2 and manage to root successfully
my problem is "shortcut" option is missing so that I cannot have the camera shortcut or other shortcut on my lockscreen
Please assist...

LG G4 shortcut menu on unlock screen not displaying?

Hey Guys,
Got my H815T variant today. Extremely happy with it thus far!
Just had a question for other owners.
I was trying to setup lock screen shortcuts, however whenever I selected it and configured it, they never showed up on the lock screen. I am using the 'swipe' security method.
Anyone else have any difficulties with this?
Cheers,
Kevin
Whirlpoolian?
There should be shortcuts on there by default. Were there any when you first used the device? If you've picked them from the lock screen settings then they should appear.
Might be a pain but hard reset might be the only thing i can think of that may work.

Mine didn't show up until I did a full power off/on after changing them around. Was thoroughly confused as to how to use them for a bit lol....
If you have any kind of lock screen security enabled, you won't be able to use lock screen shortcuts. The Shortcuts menu item under the Lock Screen menu won't show up if your lock screen security is set to anything other than 'None' or 'Swipe.'

Lock Screen - None

Hi, I previously had my lock screen set to none, and I loved it.
But since doing a Factory Reset, I no longer have the option to set my lock screen to None.
The only options are Swipe, Pattern, PIN, Password, Intelligent Scan, Face & Iris.
Does anyone have any idea how I can entirely disable the lock screen?
Thanks
In Settings -> Lock Screen the right hand side are the following options:
Swipe
Pattern
PIN
Password
None
then biometrics options. You do not have the None option in the list? However, I see I have a software update to install. I will install and see what happens to the options but looks like it is only the Dec 1 2018 security patch.
---------- Post added at 08:49 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:30 PM ----------
Looks like they may have added a menu. Now I have to go to Settings -> Lock Screen -> Lock Screen Type
but I see the same menu items
Swipe
Pattern
PIN
Pattern
Password
None
I don't have the 'none' option
I had already installed the software update, but continued to have a 'none' lock screen, until I did a Factory Reset

install Goodlock from Samsung App Store, then you can set the lock screen to set to none! if Goodlock is not on the Samsung app store, as it's not available in all regions just download the GoodLock APK!

Right, but your "Swipe" setting shows No security. Perhaps they moved the setting into there? What do you see when you click on Swipe?
Edit to add: Can you hit the About Tablet on the bottom left and what is there?

When I select 'Swipe' it just takes me back to the previous screen --> Clock Style, Roaming Clock, FaceWidgets, Contact Information, Notifications & App shortcuts.
About Tablet just has my Model number, Serial number, IMEI, Status, Legal info, Software info & Battery info.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I already have Good Lock 2018 (& LockStar). It too has no option for 'none' Lock Screen. When I select Unlock Type, I just get Swipe, Swipe up, Swipe down, Swipe left & Swipe Right.
Thanks for your help guys but I'm pretty sure Samsung have disabled this in the latest software update, I think I'll just roll-back to the previous version, since I really hate the Lock Screen!
I was just really hoping someone might know which system app to disable to get rid of the Lock Screen.
.
Hi! After digging around a bit I have found reports that point to 3 possible reasons for your plight:
1. Admin apps
2. Credentials
3. Encryption
For the first 2, got to "Settings" -> "Biometrics and security" -> "Other security settings". There you will find "Device admin apps" and "Clear credentials".
The first will basically list apps/software that enforce certain security settings (eg Outook), the second will allow you to remove all certificates, where some of those might also enforce cetain security settings.
The third option is "Encrypt SD Card", found under "Biometrics and security". Some users reportet that it would also enforce lockscree security.
While these may be worth a try, I honestly I couldn't imagine why one of these reasons might trigger after a factory reset. Rather the reset should have removed any of those. This being said, I am on ARK4, have reset for rooting etc and still have the "None" option.
Perhaps enabling the developer settings ("Settings"-> "About tablet" -> "Software information" -> tap "Build number" 9 times or so) would help?

Hi Sokraates,
Thanks so much for looking into this for me.
The only Device admin app that I had enabled was Nova Launcher (for double tap to turn screen off). Never the less, I tried disabling it and rebooting, but I still didn't have 'none' lock screen.
I also tried Clear credentials then rebooting, unfortunately, no sucess with that either.
And I don't have an SD card, so no change there.
I did already have Developer options enabled, with the only settings changed being Window animation scale, Transition animation scale & Animator duration scale, each set to .5x - so I tried disabling Developer options and rebooting, though, alas, still no joy.
My ROM version is ARJ2 which, curiously, is not listed on sammobile[dot]com, though there is an ARJ3 there. I just manually checked for new OTA update and found that I have ARK4 available to download...I just installed it but still don't have 'none' lock screen
I did another Factory Reset with the hope that somehow Samsung Smart Switch had disabled the 'none' lock screen option, when I used it to restore Apps and Settings after the previous reset, but still no luck
I've now concluded that Samsung really must have disabled 'none' lock screen in these updates, at least in Australia. So I'm going to try to roll back to previous versions of the ROM with ODIN...
I wasn't able to install ARGH, with error message "SW REV FAIL : [abl]Fused 2 > Binary 1"
But I could install ARJ3....but still no 'none' lock acreen, arrgh!!!
So now I'm thinking of trying the ARJ3 ROM for other [English speaking] regions, but I'm hesitant as I'm not sure if that will cause any problems???
Kind regards
.
It's the stupid Security Policy Updates
Update...
I ended up trying several different regions with no luck
I just happened to get a new phone today 'Samsung Galaxy Note9' and one of the first things I did was to set lock screen to none...
But as soon as I connected to the internet, a Security Policy Update was downloaded and applied
My lock screen is still set to none, but the 'none' option has been removed from the list of lock screen types.
So if I were to change to swipe, I wouldn't be able to change back to none.
I've since discovered I can stop Security Policies from updating, but I can't find a way to clear ones already applied
And clearly, neither factory reset, nor clean flash, wipes the security policy updates.
Does wiping Dalvik Cache clear Security Policy Updates??
