Can't flash RUU after deleting system - One (M9) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I installed TWRP (an older version, as my AT&T M9 is on 5.1 and doesn't support TWRP 3) and I accidentally wiped my system without a backup. Now there's no operating system, and every time I try to flash an RUU TWRP just instantly reboots without flashing anything. AOSP roms don't work as the firmware is out of date. Any idea what I should try next?

Some questions:
- Would you outline the steps you take (boot to download mode?, attempt RUU install?)
- What RUU are you attempting to flash (are you using this one)?
- What version of TWRP are you using?
-- Can you still boot into TWRP?
My initial suggestion is that you flash CM 12.1, which is compatible with the Lollipop firmware of the M9. But ideally you could flash an RUU, update to the latest firmware and then go from there.

Thanks go to the builder of the ROM , adlx.xda, who took the source of CM 12.1 and built it again after the project moved on to CM 13. We're pretty lucky to have dedicated developers here at XDA!

HTC M8 cannot update to android 6.0. Please Help

Hello,
I have a HTC M8 rooted (Super SU) with TWRP Recovery and Android ver. 5.0.1, Software ver. 4.19.111.4, Baseband ver. 1.25.2145000021.06G_20.68.4196t.01_F.
Last couple of days, I received a notification to update for android 6.0, but after I downloaded the update and press to "install now", the phone always restarted to TWRP recovery and do not install the update. Any Idea Why ?!!!.
Could any one help me to install the update?
Thanks

Replace the recovery to stock recovery and relock the bootloader. If you installed the modified firmware, reflash the stock firmware, you will be good

Do i lose all my application data doing so.
No, I am using the stock firmware, so I suppose no need to reflash it.

Here you should find the stock recoveries: http://www.andromods.com/download-files/htc-one-m8-stock-recovery-verizon-sprint-att-tmobile.html
download the right recovery.img file and follow these instruction on how to flash - http://androiding.how/how-to-install-twrp-recovery-via-fastboot/ - in this just change the twrp recovery.img to the one you downloaded and run the code in command prompt.
It is recommended to do I clean install to avoid any further reported errors. Once you relock the bootloader you will lose all the data (like hard reset).

Thanks again for the info.
Unfortunately, I could not find the right stock recovery in the link you provided, so I use another one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/tutorial-how-to-stock-stock-twrp-t3086860.
However, I have to ask, if I am on stock firmware; only rooted through SuperSU and with TWRP recovery,
do I need to reinstall (reflash) or restore to sotck firmware as in steps # 7 to 9 in the post (link) I added, or
can I directly flash the stock recovery and then relock the bootloder and start downloading the update 6.0
Thank.

First thing .. you cannot do OTA with a rooted stock ROM, you need a non-rooted ROM.
Secondly .. there is no need to relock bootloader - read the note in my thread.
Just read again post #1 and follow all the 14 steps, you should be fine.
Anything, you can ask in my thread as I'm not following your thread.

Cant get ROM to boot.

I tried upgrading to 7.1, and have tried 3 different ROM's. I even tried going back to 6. Every single ROM told me error code 7 when I tried to flash it. I went about fixing that. So then I was able to flash the ROM and GApps. But then when it goes to boot into the OS all it does is hang on the white Asus screen, reboot, and go back to the white Asus screen. It does that 3 times then goes into recovery. I even tried fixing it with ZE551ML_Modder V3.3. I am running TWRP-3.0.2-0-Z00A.img. This is a Z00A as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

The bootloader is the recovery right? (At least thats what I always thought). If so then I am running the newest TWRP for it.
http://theflamingskull.com/zenfone2.html
Upgrade your bootloader following the instructions on the .zip package.
This will upgrade your bootloader and flash a compatible TWRP recovery.

I did all that. Now I am stuck with CM Recovery. I tried using the tool to get TWRP back but its not working. I have to figure out how to push TWRP using ADB.
In modder, return to stock option , flash stock recovery and boot img.
Unlock bootloader in modder, just incase.
Flash twrp, root in modder ..reboot to twrp...install 7.1 and pico gapps
I finally had to go to Ubuntu, run ADB as SU and ADB Sideload an older version of Cyanogenmod. Not a single factory image would work. And not a single one of those Android 7 ROM's would work. They are all broken. I would like to see real proof of one working. That little escapade cost me a lot of time. So until someone comes out with a real CM14 version for the Z00A do not attempt to boot one.

You may have really misunderstood the processes and yes they are allover the place.
i am running CM14.1 lots of people are !
What you probobaly have is LP based CM 13 on WW-4.20 blah blah.165
Then there was a CM13 with MM blobs based on WW-4.21 blah blah .135 MM
I think where you have gone wrong is not unlocking bootloader in 5 LP and upgrading bootloader and unlocking.
if you are on .165 - you could flash stock recovery for .165 -- upgrade to .184 -- unlock bootloader and upgrade to MM then unlock bootloader in MM with modder
Then use the modder to install 7.1 14.1 CM
But judging by the probs you have haD already - just leave it alone :good:

Hi quinciebee, thanks fo ryour reply.
I was on ANdroid 6.0.1 MOB30JN910VVRU2 BPA1 and firmware BPA1
Then I wanted to try out Hsbadr's new 7.1.1 Nougat Rom and it required new CPJ2 firmware so I odin'd it in.
I TWRP backed up my ANdroid 6.0.1 MOB30JN910VVRU2 BPA1 build I have been running for months.
Then flashed his newest "EmotionOS" But could not get 4G LTE to work so I restored my 6.0 backup since I cant function on 3G only and no one in these forums was able to help me.
Hope that wasn't too confusing
Oh by the way, I am doing this on a Developer Edition Note 4 on Verizon
When I flashed CPJ2 firmware I used a partial build as explained here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/no...t/howto-bootloader-unlock-upgrade-to-t3398144
He quotes:
Quote:
"If you're already on unlocked Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow bootloader, you can extract and flash the DevEd partial fimware via Odin to upgrade:
N910VVRU2CPJ2_PartialFirmware_DevEd.tar.md5.7z
This will upgrade the base firmware (NON-HLOS, modem, rpm, sbl1, sdi, and tz) to N910VVRU2CPJ2."

I flashed to 09/19 build the phone would not boot. I kept getting a rapid glow behind the Blue android mascot.
I then tried to odin the BOG5 firmware and I got errors . rebooted the phone and it wouldnt boot.
Now just bootloops to the samsung screen,
It's borked.
I think I lost Dev Edition and the best I can do is start from scratch?
Not sure where to go now.

Is the BOG5 firmware stock? If so, you shouldn't have flashed it. If you still have TWRP and root, take these steps to clean flash to CM13.
1. Boot to TWRP, wipe all but your External Storage (SD Card)
2. Flash CM13 09/19 zip
3. Flash the boot image from CM13 07/24
(Click on install image, select the boot.img file, you will then see two choices: boot and recovery, select boot only, then swipe to flash.)
4. Flash gapps and SuperSU zip
5. Reboot
The rapid blinking was happening because you need the boot image from 07/24 in order for the rom to load properly. I'd post the boot image for you, but it exceeds the file size limit. To get the boot image, download the CM13 07/24 build, unzip the file, and extract the boot.img file to your SD card, along with everything else that you want to flash. Let me know if you need me to provide more details on any of the steps.
I can't even get into twrp.
All I can do is get into "Download mode"
I have started a new thread looking for help here:

What do you see when you try to boot into recovery?
Hi quinciebee,
I posted this before I borked my phone, before you started helping me.
How I got here was I was trying to upgrade the firmware so I could them flash The ne 7.1.1 "EmotionOS"
I was following the instruction here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/no...t/howto-bootloader-unlock-upgrade-to-t3398144
Specifically where is says:
"If you're already on unlocked Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow bootloader, you can extract and flash the DevEd partial fimware via Odin to upgrade:
N910VVRU2CPJ2_PartialFirmware_DevEd.tar.md5.7z
This will upgrade the base firmware (NON-HLOS, modem, rpm, sbl1, sdi, and tz) to N910VVRU2CPJ2."
It flashed fine and then I installed the EmotionOS and all went well but I could NOT get 4G LTE to work, only 3G.
So I abandoned it and reflashed a backup of the CM 13 I was running since May 25.
I was good on cm13 but I got errors when I was in settings and tried to go into "Security"
Im all god now and I will be trying to get back to 6.0 and then 7.1.1 after my house guests leave.
The phone is running fine in 5.1.1.
THanks again!

Trying to upgrade from unofficial CM13 on CPF3 to EmotionOS

Hi everyone, I have spent the past few hours searching for a similar problem but I can't quite figure it out and some help would be greatly appreciated!
As the title stated, I am on 6.0.1 and the unofficial CM13 with my baseband version being N910VVRU2CPF3. What I want to do is upgrade to hsbadr's 7.1.1 EmotionOS. In the Emotion thread it says that ROM Firmware Required: N910VVRS2CPL1. I am wondering what I do to get to that firmware.
Following this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/no...t/howto-bootloader-unlock-upgrade-to-t3398144

I think that applies to me but it's only a partial firmware and that confuses me. Also, I don't know when to flash Emotion as well as the GApps (I'm assuming I'll have TWRP installed)

It does say Mode: Developer but I'm like 99% I had to convert it to that in the rooting process. I followed the guide on these forums to upgrade from stock 5.1.1 to CM13.

You need to have upgraded from 5.1.1 to 6.0.1 and rooted that as well. Since you're on CM13, I'm assuming that you did that, so then all you need to do is flash the CPL1 partial firmware provided by hsbadr in the above post, full wipe, then clean flash EmotionOS. The firmware is partial because it only changes the base firmware, as long as you're on rooted 6.0.1 Marshmallow to begin with, you should be fine.

Global OTA 9.5.4.0 + TWRP = fail

My phone has unlocked bootloader, TWRP, and is rooted with magisk. Got the OTA for (global) 9.5.4.0 last night - it downloads/de-crypts ok, reboots into TWRP, and then fails to flash. I also tried to flash manually via TWRP by locating the downloaded file, still fails. During the night, it rebooted itself (to try again I suppose), and my alarm didn't go off.
So here I am, late in work, wasting more "work time" to ask you for a possible solution
Go back to original miui recovery then you can update your miui successfully. After update, reflash twrp and magisk.

Sounds easy, but I don't know how to do that. Could you point me in the right direction?
you can't flash an OTA with TWRP
Flash recovery img with fastboot
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
then boot your phone
settings->about phone->system update->update
it will get in origin miui recovery and update system automatically
after update finished, reflash twrp and magisk
Thank you very much @jimandy60
With all the respect though, I would prefer downloading the file from a popular location. Is there any way to find this hosted somewhere else, maybe by Xiaomi?

Hello!
I got the same problem but instead to come here and ask for help I tried to solve myself. I downloaded the lastest TWRP version and the device was not going into recovering mode. Then I installed again the previous one without results. I downloaded the TWRP app from Play Store and trying to solve I made wipe data, cache and I am not sure but I think also choose wipe system. Now my phone is stuck on the fastboot screen. Does not start. Using ADB I installed back the stck recovery but the problem remains. Somebody can help me please?
reflash the full rom?
download&unzip full rom package, get in fastboot mode and run flash_all.bat
