[Discussion] The HTC 10 Discussion thread - HTC 10 Guides, News, & Discussion

The HTC One M10 is one of the most exciting devices in 2016 , the company officialy confirmed that their flagship will be annouced in 12th April. It is also rumoured that the device will be powered by the S820 and 4GB of RAM. We hope the M10 will come with an unlocked bootloader to enjoy android developpement , but who knows , after we saw what samsung did with their S7/S7 edge , we are not sure if HTC will follow the same policy of locking their devices.

So what do you think ? Is this HTC's last chance ?

Last leaks available.

Anyone have any speculation on whether they will bring back the IR blaster? Judging by the pics of the top of the phone it doesn't seem likely, but a lot of my decision hinges on that.

I am guessing not. To be honest for me I thought it was cool but after using it once or twice I never used it again. I know some like you believe it is a must have but I think that is probably a small % of users.

Yes, i think it is their last chance. And that may be a problem: i'm a litte unsure if i'll buy a device from a company such "critical" as HTC. What about warranty, replacements etc. if they go into bankruptcy which they will if the HTC 10 fails to sell as they expect...
This may be a tough decission if the device will be a "must buy" in terms of hardware and price ...

I really do. They absolutely have to get this right, lest they disappear or get absorbed by somebody else. This goes so far beyond a good device, though.
They have to please the developer community, the "pretty shiny" community, and everybody in-between to sustain their niche in this market It will be a tall order, so I'm here really hoping that the HTC 10 is as awesome as they are making it out to be

It's a real shame since I can't imagine it being too costly. Seems odd LG is the only brand left doing so.

seems like there is a plastic piece on the top edge of the phone. Don't understand what it is if its not for an IR blaster....So I guess there's still one.

no its not like this imo. On the HTC 10 you can see that all the edges are metal except 90% of the top edge which is plastic, there is reason for that otherwise it would be full metal. On another image you can see the inside of the cover and a small hole beside the hole for the audio jack, and you can see the plastic through it... Like if something is going there and might either receive or send signal through the plastic lens.

Part of me has thought this, but I just doubt that the ir blaster would be behind a sheet of plastic.

Wide/Macro Lens for the Evo

Some of you might already know about this, but I just read an article that talks about a set of macro/wide lens that's compatible with the Evo. From the picutrestaken with it, it looks pretty terrific.
Sample shots here: http://www.goodandevo.net/2010/06/review-magnetic-macro-lens-for-htc-evo-4g.html
Can be purchased here: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.14953

Please do. I'd like to see what kind of photos can be taken with that wide angle lens, even if I have to hold it up while taking the shot.
i'm interested to see how your dealings with dealextreme go. i've never even heard of them
They are good but shipping usually takes 3 weeks. I have a jewelers eyepiece that does the same thing as these macro lenses. The one I have is only 1.5x you can buy then at 10x and more. You can buy them for a penny on ebay:

Dang, that sucks to hear. I was hoping it would be a strong enough magnet to stay at least somewhat firmly attached. I guess you can't expect too much for something that wasn't specifically designed for the Evo.
In any case, it's cool though!
Pictures look fantastic. If anyone gets this let me know how it goes I am so close to pulling the trigger its only ten bucks....
yeah, i went ahead and bought it last night too. i figured 10 bucks...no big whoop. i've thrown away that much just in old produce last week, lol

Quite simply is there a reason not to love their weird selection of products. I've bought so much stuff from them that I have NEVER been able to find anywhere else. I think this company is great.
Looks like fun!
I placed my order, not to worried if they dont stick on there perfectly, they are fairly cheap, do the eyeglass pieces stick to the Evo as well or were those pics taken while holding it in place?
Did anyone find the red macro lens that was in the pictures from engadget?
so, has anyone received one that they've ordered yet? mine says it is 'in packaging'....lord only knows how long that is going to take...
Timothy. I have been a client of them for more than 2 years. No one will receive theirs until 2 weeks or more.

I went and got a walmart money card to get these things but paypal isnt liking it so i guess ill just have to wait til my new check card comes in the mail to order. Hoping i get as good of shots that engadget showed.

expect to wait a bit, that's why shipping is free and it's so cheap. probably 1.5-2 weeks, as that's what happened when i bought a cheap fling monkey scream toy from them last year. that being said, at this price it's still pretty sweet.
on a side note, can anyone recommend any of the ones from that first amazon link? i'd prefer to have it shipped quicker and pay for higher quality if it's reasonable. thanks in advance!

All I did was put the camera right over top of the jewelers lens. The macro shots are more of a novelty for a camera phone. I've always known about this and maybe tried it out 3 times tops on cell phones. Like I said you can buy the jewelers lenses for a penny on ebay, and they are much higher quality and you can pick the magnification.
Theres a product called jelly lens that does the same thing as this except it uses like silly putty or something around the ring to stick instead of using a magnetic ring

OnePlus One Protective Case - (Issue)

Be careful when ordering OnePlus One Protective case. Not sure if anyone else has had this issue but the 4 corners on mine have all cracked. It seems that the case was too small for the phone. This is the stock one with the logo on the back

The company itself OnePlus makes the case. So they would have a phone to try it on.
This is probably why their cases are OOS as they're fixing them for quality assurance. I think I read that on the Reddit AMA post from a OPO employee.

Wow, never would have imagined that their own cases are so poorly made. Makes you worry a bit about the phone itself (haven't received mine yet).

The build quality for the OPO is quite nice. Only concern is for those who have yellow tints on screen
Here it is,
Speaking of accessories, you've stated that you'll make money through accessories (and that $50 back is one clear example). Yet you seem to be having problems keeping accessories in stock. I would have purchased a screen protector with my phone if one was available at the time. What issues have you run into keeping accessories in stock?

The answer was,
Accessories not meeting our quality standards, lead times for design and manufacturing. We were modifying the design of the One right up to the last minute, which didn't make things easier. Never Settle, right?

Same with me. Picked up a Pelosi case which I like much better. Has the same gritty style to it but a little rougher than the back of the opo.
Sent from my OnePlus One
The case I got did not even fit, pops off the bottom when I click on the top or the sides if one side is fully seated then the other side pops out. Either my phone is misshapen or the cases are utter crap
I have mine for 6 Days now, It seems a way to tight any without any dropping 3 of 4 edges are allready cracked.

Wallet Case?

Hello,
I'm looking for a rather specific type of case, I want a case for the OPO, that has the flip part covering the screen, and inside that to have 1 (or more) credit card slots, and if possible a money hole. The catch is I do not want a magnetic latch, I want it to be like magnetic with the screen.
Thanks

I like these wallet cases, 'cus it means when you leave your phone on the bus/train/bar, you lose all your cards and as an added bonus, you lose all your money too.
How great is that?
although it's not magnetic, this is a great case:

Haha, well that's not a problem for me, I have so many credit cards (10+) and the one that I would be carrying would be to an account that has no more than $100 in it at all times, and is in a seprate bank to all the other ones, so no a problem there.
And I also am not stupid enough to leave my phone on a bus, never left anything on a bus or anything like that...

Dang i've noticed that it helps a lot but it's still a bit bad. Mine doesn't seem to be quite as bad as yours.
This can be easily solved (for me at least) by rubbing the lens with a soft cloth in a circular motion rather than linearly.

It may look clean but shine the lens at different angles and you'll see oil streaks. For sure that's what it is based on the glare. The same exact thing happens with glasses.

Glass is always like that and every camera or item with glass whether glasses, shower doors, windows will always do that. For example my glasses and DSLR do that if you touch them. It's normal but strange that many HTC owners are raising awareness on that like LCD and polarization.

Unless it's exactly the same glass as the m9 which had the exact same issue then i'm not convinced.
My Nexus didn't have this, my S5, infact pretty much none of the below phones did except for the 3 new HTC devices.
If it's glass, then how does that happen? The vast majority of these were glass, the 10 just seems to be hazy, especially in low light, bring the device outside and it's crystal clear, feels like dejavu of the m9 to me.
Might sound like i'm bashing HTC here, i'm not, i'm a bit disappointed, i've always put a lot of faith in HTC and they always seem to drop the ball on something. Suppose that's HTC's way of being unique.

Bumper case advice to keep phone's screen attached

http://imgur.com/a/fe2JV
My phone has a screen problem which you can see in the image. The screen is not attached to body. When I push that side of screen with my hand it goes normal, so I think it is a adhesive problem. I need screen to stay steady because back button is hard to press in this condition.
So is there any bumper case which can hold screen attached to body so I can use it without any problem?
If nothing else, this case should hold your phone together. Other cases may work too, though it is difficult to tell if the small lip they have over the screen would be enough.

have you tried superglue lol
@MehStrongBadMeh
Thanks! I will look intothat case.
@parrotgeek1
I dont really want to open phone. Is there any way to use superglue without removing the screen?
Put the glue on the end of a toothpick then run it along the inside edges of the screen and phone @sevindi

Dang brother, that looks bad. Very sorry to see this. Can I ask is this the result of dropping the device or this happened on its own? It doesn't look like it has any damage to it, have you tried contacting hTC?
As for cases, I prefer the thinner ones.
The Spigen Thin Fit has treated me very well on my hTC M9, and then now on my hTC 10. They do a good job I think with providing a nice thin product that actually does prevent small dings and what not (my 10 is still brand new looking and has been in this case with no screen protector since release day, but everyone's use is different). Color choice I wish they had black but the gunmetal looks great.
If I may recommend this:

That's pretty bad.. Why haven't you RMA'd your device or at the very least contacted HTC?
As far as I can see from that picture, no clear signs of a drop either so...it should be a clear case of manufacturing defect.
Try tech 21, it has a lip around the phone. Good case too
I have seen a video about "disassembling?" on youtube. They just warmed the display up with some device, in order to reattach it. Maybe you want to have a look at such video to get an idea.
+1 for RMA before it gets wrecked fully.
Especially since i think it has some very nice degree of water resistance and dust resistance, when put together properly. You should let a professional take care of, to get the best result.

That'll be a heat gun mate, it'll also ruin most the glue sticking it down.. Probably not a good idea to do this yourself, if someone else has changed the screen out then RMA might not be allowed. If it's just gone this way by itself then Yea RMA for sure.

True words from this angle
I would not hesitate to send it in. I would rather send it to HTC instantly. Probably i would not even ask a forum about such

Thought you called me an angel for a moment there
Definitely send it in mate, if this has happened on it's own it's obviously a terrible defect, more than likely the battery has swollen, or the glue has come away or the phone has bent, or a combination of either.
Either way, not your fault and not a good sign, bearing in mind that this lump is a £600 phone! Not cheap and certainly not something i'd go dabbling with unless it was a last resort.
I stripped down a One X to do a replacement screen swap, ended up snapping a flex, and i'm a careful guy
So if you ask me send it back.

Oh sorry, this is lack of english skill. I thought in my mother language while translating. I was already told to better stop this. Anyhow, intentionally i wanted to agree on your point of view.
Yeah, better do not void the warranty by manually trying to repair it.
