Outdoor visibility (max brightness) - OnePlus X Real Life Review

Rate this thread to express how well you can see the OnePlus X's display outdoors. In case you've been playing Minecraft for 18 months straight, you might not known how to get outside anymore. Well, find the door and walk through it. A higher rating indicates that it has very high maximum brightness and thus fantastic outdoor visibility in direct sunlight.

Take for order on older forums!

It's decent , i even compared it to samsung S6 , same output .

mine is not great iff their is direct sunlight even on full brightness. Not sure iff it is the cm13 rom or iff it was the same on oxygen.

Excellent visibility on purity ROM.

It's honestly quite poor when I'm in direct sunlight. But that's been my experience with any AMOLED display.

actually very weak in direct sunlight....

I consider it to perform very well on highest brightness in direct sunlight.
Can see and read everything effortlessly.

on full brightness everything is perfect
amoled is quite bright so outdoor usage isnt the problem
real ques is how long is our batt going to last in total outdoor use(full brightness)

Great in the sun!!!

Our phone actually has a high brightness mode that can be enable with kernel adiutor or a widget(that was created for the nexus 6) that makes the screen even brighter. It can only be triggered by these apps, auto brightness or manual brightness won't reach this "high brightness mode"

I use my display on auto brightness so I'm pretty sure it automatically turns the brightness all the way up when I'm outside.. the brightness was has never been a problem for me outside. In my opinion, display is the most beautiful part of our phone. I just love it! ?

Screen brightness is great even in Auto mode, visibility is great
Definitely, anyone with this phone, would you be willing to share your comments about the visibility of the phone under harsh tattoine like sunlight?
The Honor 8’s 5.2-inch FHD display with a 96% high color gamut (NTSC), color enhancement, and dynamic pixel-level contrast adjustment provides a better viewer experience, with vivid and crisp images making the screen easier to see during the day. The Eye-Care Mode makes looking at your phone at night more comfortable and safe by filtering part of the blue light to reduce eye strain. (NS)
Honor 8 display is just amazing, better than my old Samsung J5 and on par with many flagships.
Keep in mind that LTPS screens have advantage to other LCDs , due to the manufacturing process.
That means lower consumption and better sunlight visibility. I had phones with LTPS panels and they were all awesome!
Honestly I expected a little bit more. Don't get me wrong I can see the content however I feel that the brightness could be a bit more and the numbers (450-490 nit) says so. But overall it is better than most of its competition's
So much better than what i was used to, i could almost never see anything on my old phone (Acer Liquid E700) in the sunlight. Now i can read the screen just fine no matter what weather it is. Only thing that bothers me a little bit is that the auto brightness is a little to aggressive in dark environments, the screen gets to dark to my liking.
visible in bright sunlight and it isnt a problem to use phone
No issues, excellent outdoor visibility
Outdoor visibility is good only when full brightness is turn on.. but still had some phones evan then it was not visible..
Despite not being the brightest on the spec sheet, it beats the S6 in the sun. (which was 600 nit or somewhere along those lines)
Simply, it is very good.
It could be better, I compared it with O+3 which has better visibility on sun.
The specs and the real world performance put the readability in sunlight squarely in the "average" category. It will work in a pinch, but it's not the best available. It's also not the worst, so just keep your expectations reserved for average and you wont be disappointed.

Many phones are worse..
At least that was my experiance ..
I had many phones..
My last nexus 6 motorola was so bad that 100% brightness did not help to see in the sun at all
And the Honor 8 is the lets say second best phone in the sun I had
Better I only had the Samusung A5 2016..
So I would say.. yes there are better phones.. but Honor 8 is good enough to see in the sun..
BUT, to see you MUST have 100% brightness and that one discharges battery realy realy fast

I do not use auto brightness
Couse I have noticed when I set
Lets say 50% auto brightness its a bit dimmed
Couse if I set manually 50% it is bit brighter
Did not tried it outside and with 100% auto or manual
Couse I have it always manual
Will test a bit more then give you final opinion for my case
Will test it too though
I used it while high noon and no problems with visibility.
not the best or AMOLeD quality but still does very well. better than many out there. in normal condition brightness is sufficient, you may feel little uncomfortable in direct sunlight but we use it very less in such situations..so performs well and no complaint

No other phone is better, 1000 nits definitely shows.
Agreed! Very bright outside!
Is the only way to achieve maximum brightness with the auto setting?
Simply beautiful no matter where you are.
best screen I have ever seen at noon sun blazing
Still can use my phone when under the big hot sun~
I always disable the auto brightness on any device I owned before, note 7 is the first device that I keep that on. It works flawlessly!!!
5second to dim down, 3 second to raise the brightness... Better than any device I owned before

It is the first smartphone that has no problem with the screen brightness even in the super sun.
Outside, just set Autio Brightness on max and the magic will happen into the sunlight.
I have Exynos version.

Phone gets shockingly bright outdoors. Plenty bright enough for visibility in full sun even with sunglasses on. Not a problem using this on a beach.
Device give a lot of brightness when u are outdoor and u configure it in auto mode... i agree enough to read something on screen...
If you do not want your Mi Mix to be a sandy hottie phone better not expose it directly to sun longer than 10 minutes , and for sure not at the beach hehe , Xiaomi doesn´t love sand.
The visibility outdoors is great without screenprotector.
With screenprotector it is ok but not great
Good, not great.
Very visible
Problem is it can get hot pretty quickly especially if you got the black model

it's pretty dim, to be honest, i wish we had screen brightness like some of the older motorola phones did when android motorola was still for the cool kids instead of the soccer moms.
Best device ive used in direct sunlight. I work outdoors in the Texas heat and I have no problems seeing the screen.
10/10 for the display, its gorgeous.
Agreed, the brightness when in direct sunlight has much improved over the S9+. It's very usable on a bright sunny day
The display blows the note 9 outdoor usability - Florida sun.

I have S10+ and can't see anything while in my car or outside. The comments above saying it's so great make me think eventhough we have the same phones, that they are talking about a different phone. I think it's awful and now regretting my decision to get this phone because this drives me completely insane. Rating 2.
No problems her in crazy sunlight. Phone does get warm because of the max brightness and direct sunlight but still very clear to read.
Its excellent

It works really well under sunlight and yeah the phone does heat up a bit but it's ok I can see and read well my screen
On max brightness it's bright. Inside it blinds the crap out of me. Outside I can see it pretty well.
Put it on adaptive brightness. I guess there's a limit to how bright we can manually set it versus how bright it gets automatically.. I played around with these settings myself and it does get brighter when you turn on adaptive brightness. Try it! I'm sure you'll like it better! Because I was thinking three same thing you said, house the hell are these people thinking it's great in the sunlight?! Way better with adaptive enabled!

You are CORRECT. This has been from the very start. Only adaptive brightness will give you the max potential of the brightness of s10+'s screen.
For s10+, high brightness mode is entered when sensor reads 40,000lux, and its exited when sensor reads below 8000lux (it used to be 5000lux but it must have been changed at some point). When sun hits the screen, screen is very visible and good. When you are outside but sun isnt on the screen, you can turn your phone towards sun to activate HBM, but it may exit once you turn it back to yourself.(quite annoying as manual max is very limiting at 300nits).
There is a HDR bug, only works on android 10, you can trick the phone to stay at HDR brightness(brightness is still adjustable all the way from 1.6nits to 700), so you can manually adjust it to max brightness(700nits) whenever you want. This is the reason im staying at android 10 lol. Had to downgrade from android 11. If bootloader version turns to 10(currently 9) you wont be able to downgrade(maybe with root you can, i dont know) so its good to consider doing it
Ive always auto brightness turned on,
after installing the UI3.1 , under a bright light, it doesn't go so bright...but under sun light, or in dqy light, its just brighter and its get sooo much better...,
It's like sensors understand where u r

I was on 3.1 for 2 3 months and it enters at 40.000lux just like 3.0, i doubt they increased the thereshold cuz its already too high.

Yeah that puts a lot of wear on the display fast.
Avoid using in direct sunlight or at least limit it to seconds.

İm actually staying on android 10 to use a hdr bug that lets me use max brightness whenever i want. Its not a suicide mission like everyone imagines

I have experienced a little disappointment with the Oneplus 8 outside in full sun. I find the maximum brightness lacking. I thought it would not be like that, but I have to put manual brightness to the maximum to see something more or less well. I am unhappy with this, I don't know if it will be fixed in future updates. hope so.
It looks great on the outside. Yes! You have to deactivate battery saving and automatic brightness!
weird brightness oneplus 8
I have a problem with screen brightness while using outdoor, sometime, while im using oneplus 8 outside, after unlock the screen, the screen auto turns dark ( like while you are calling someone ), and I have to tap to the display or via powerbutton. What is that weird issue
Im using oneplus 8 android 11, enabled adaptive brightness and ambient display
