AT&T Galaxy Note 4 N910A 5.1.1 Root for CM? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note 4

Hey,
Still a bit of a noob to the whole rooting process and navigating XDA forums, so I'm having trouble finding the information *I think* I should be looking for. Basically, my phone's just begun crashing periodically, multiple times a day: anything from Camera, Process System, Touchwiz Home Launcher, or Samsung Apps have "stopped working" / "not responding" before. Of course, my phone's warranty has expired, but my contract isn't up so an AT&T Store wont re-image it for me :crying:
Even I can tell, at this point, that it's either my OS that's failing, or it's my hardware. I figured the easiest way to test this would be to put some stable CyanogenMod on it.
The information I'm looking for is: "is this possible?"
AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note 4
SM N910A UCU2DOI2
Currently @ 5.1.1
Thanks for reading,
~Vita.

No it is NOT possible to use any form of custom firmware or to root this device. It has a locked bootloader that has yet to be cracked open and the future of that happening os very bleak to non existant.
As for reimaging the device go to the note 4 at&t general section on the forum and read up on using odin and the 5.1.1 image posted there it will wipe the phone and format yhe system and data partitions and reinstall it like a new phone just like at&t would do or the manufacturer if you sent it to them.
Good luck

Thanks for the response.
Sorry for the dumb question, but isn't Odin able to flash any firmware onto a device? The "locked bootloader" means that only the stock OS may be reinstalled? Why is this...
Also, it seems unlock progress is being made on the N910V. Maybe hope?
Thanks for mentioning Odin, I'll try re-imaging the phone.

Well the problem is the kernel the bootloader prevents the devs from using an unsecure kernel (one not created and signed by at&t) on the phone if one is used the phone stops boot and says it is an unsecure non at&t kernel and to take thenphone to at&t store.
Odin can only write the firmware versiom that is currently on this phone in this case it is 5.1.1 if you flash any other note 4 versoin such as 4.2.2 it will brick.
Sm-910a flash example
Update ver Official at&t 5.1.1 / currently on phone 5.0.1 or 5.1.1 = good
Update ver (downgrade)oficcial at&t 4.2.2 / currently on phone 5.0.1 or 5.1.1 = brick not good or odin fail
Update from another carrier such as tmobile or verizon for 910t 910v 910g = fail (do not attempt)
Until oir boot loader is unlocked there is nothing we can do to mod or use custom firmware on this phone any attempt leads to a brick requiring using odin to re-flash the latest firmware (5.1.1 at this time) in order to make the phone functional again.

So from what I understand, I could use Odin to flash the 4 files which correspond to the specific AT&T 5.1.1 SM-901A version of my phone (which is exactly what I have) to re-image the device and make it functional again. The problem is, I cannot find these devices on sammobile D:
Could someone direct me to these files? Or are they not out because AT&T sucks? Or, what.

I am sure that you are referring to a sim unlock. A sim unlock and unlocked bootloader are two completely different entities. To flash a custom rom you will need to have your bootloader unlocked, which is something that a few of us are currently working on. Until then, no custom roms can be flashed on the att variant Note 4s. Take care

the boot loader says Qualcom secure boot : disabled ?
in the boot loader screen ?

Sorry, was off the forum for the weekend. Spexwood was correct, that is sim unlock. Qualcom is for the sim IE network. Take care.

Root is possible btw
Root is possible if youre willing to dedicate 10-30 hours of repititive root fails

How?

Requesting 5.1.1 N910AUCU2DOI2 Odin AP file

Hi all,
I have tried all methods, factory reset, change to ATT sim(non-active sim), non of them work. I dont have an active ATT sim
I think the only way for me to upgrade to 5.1.1 is through Odin.
I'm waiting too
I've got the 5.1.1 update on my phone. And would be happy to provide odin files for it if someone can tell me how to pull it.

I have the same problem. My att note 4 is on Cricket wireless, and I haven't noticed any OTA when checking for updates. I've read on another post that att pulled the update and sent it back to fix the install issue some are having (among other issues). I really would like to try a manual Odin firmware update and see if it goes through... Please, if anyone could provide the files, that would be great. Just an FYI, I have a friend on Cricket. When Cricket was still using the old carrier (was it Verizon?), Cricket released its own updates. Usually a month or so after the main carrier.
That was when Cricket had its own phone models though. My friend had an S4 and it was a Cricket model number.

Yeah it failed for me to. I honestly don't know at this point. I'm not a dev. I know some things lol. I think there might be something wrong with the current firmware that is causing it to fail. This is the first I've seen this ever happen. I was trying to find the Odin files for 5.0.1 but I don't see them anywhere yet. That way we can odin flash current firmware again then try update. If that fails, we'll need to wait for the Odin files for 5.1.1.
Odin files for 5.1.1 will hopefully soon be up!

From what I 've seen the least bad brand is Samsung , because the other brands bring poor processors (MTK ) or are bad devices to develop OS cooked.
I tried this method and it works fine for me.

Install stock SM-N910W8 on SM-910V

Hi, just bought an unlocked Note 4 from USA, it's the Verizon version.
I looked on your forum to find an answer, but I can't.
I'm from Canada, and I'd like to install a stock rom of the canadian version (n910w8), to have less Verizon/Amazon bloatware, and the french language available.
Considering that the N910W8 phone is pretty identical(from what I can see..), same CPU, would I brick my phone from installing this very rom "N910W8VLU1BOE2_N910W8OYA1BOE2_N910W8VLU1BOE2_HOME.tar.md5"?
And if so, why? And what are my alternatives?
see rooting and now you can unlock bootloader too first head to this post
then after that whatever your stock rom you can uninstall the blotware
here are another post for the blot which is safe to remove
and you can use that thing
I am using Indian sim and it is working great
'and you can use that thing'
That thing? The .md5 i mentionned?
When you boot the phone it says 'custom' and has a lock/unlock symbol?
You purchased it unlocked?

I purchased it unlocked, but it has a Verizon logo whenever I boot it. So, would I be able to install the n910w8 without any trouble? Or is there a way to "install it" and during the process if it is not compatible it will tell it to me?

He's trying to make sure that "unlocked" means that your bootloader is unlocked. It's a critical point, especially if your "unlocked" is referring to being open to all carriers.
If your bootloader is unlocked, you'll see an open padlock on the first boot screen. If the bootloader isn't unlocked, you won't be able to flash any ROMs until you unlock it.

The ROM, maybe. Will it work? Not without some serious help.
Since the Verizon variant of this phone isn't getting much developer love... it was locked until recently and true Developer Editions were rare and in smartphone terms, it's old... people are looking at the Snapdragon development.
The biggest headache will be getting the phone and data to work. The W8 is a GSM phone while Verizon uses CDMA.

Ok, I guess I could say I'm a superhero, my name, SuperStupid -_-
I finally got the padlock logo, rooted my phone, installed TWRP, tried to flash n910w8 rom, it didnt work, so I told myself, why not wipe everything, so I did.
Now I have a phone without OS, but! I kept the padlock and TWRP...
A new successful achievment for SuperStupid...
I'm currently downloading (with my superFast 1mb/s connection) the full firmware of N910V, which I didnt think prior to wipe everything, to keep a copy...
And I hope that I'll only have to put the file on my SD card, and then flash it...
I'll stay with my Verizon bloatware, as soon as I get it back, I won't try again soon to do this ****!!!

You'll have to root again, ya know...
I have a Verizon Note 4 arriving today for use in Canada. The seller indicated that it is unlocked which I'm sure refers to the carrier and not the bootloader.
I've owned the Notes 1,2 and 3 and my most stable and satisfying experience was with the 3, not because it was the latest and greatest but because it was the only one I did not root and play around with. I'm getting older and I'm starting to value stability over features. I actually like stock touchwizz and enjoy the built in productivity of the spen. Carrier bloatware really is a minor inconvenience for me.
I've enjoyed the Note line but the Note 4 will be my last as the SD card and removable battery are very important to me. As long as this Verizon Note 4 gives me LTE coverage in the Greater Toronto area (which my research indicates it will) I'll keep it stock. A bonus would be if it shows up with Android 5.1.1 or is upgradeable via OTA or Kies. I don't really see any North American varient receiving Marshmallow and certainly not this Verizon one.
Can you flash N910W8 firmware/rom onto a N910V?

Same here with a N910V wanting to know if N910W8 can flash ok to it. (but already unlocked mine with custom N910V roms on it) Been running LineageOS roms OK for a while but just too many bugs for something dependable.
Runs nice until you really need it not freezing on you lol.
Did try a custom W8 rom that was only flashable after installing TWRPCAN 3.0.2 in place of TWRP 3.2.3 and it did startup but phone ran really hot and broken WiFi so ended up going back.

Just made a jump from note 2 to note 4 - Need suggestions

Hello community,
I got a Note 4 N910V and the jump was something incredible. I am in love with the thing.
My note 2 was rooted and had the Resurrection Remix rom. I felt free to customize it since I didn't have to worry about the bootloader or anything but it was really sluggish.
My note 4 came with 5.0.1(stock rom) and skiming through the forums I'm seeing things like 'safely upgrade to MM'. Makes me thing the OTA update ain't working right for everyone.
I'm not getting any OTA updates, could be because I'm not in the US and my phone is unlocked for a local telco.
I have a couple of questions
- Is the MM update fine? Battery, performance, root? how would I update if I'm not getting any OTA updates?
- I know about kingroot but is it recommended as the root option for my OS version. I found this but It's been a long time since I rooted a phone.
- Any popular ROM/Mods? RR was a big thing in the note 2 community (also a couple of custom kernels).
Pics of what I got down below.
Thank you for your time.
I'm using this phone on Bell Mobility in Canada and was unable to get the OTA. I have no intention of rooting this phone yet.
I was able to get the stock 6.0.1 OTA file from here:

Hey man thank you for your answer!
Did you have any problems with the unlocked properties (telco wise, no bootloader) when flashing these things?
I also checked my download mode and doesn't say anything about developer. Seems fine showing up Odin mode so I'm going to assume this is a retail version.

The only way to get an ota is to be on Verizon. Other wise you'll need to download the update and flash with Odin or flash with stock recovery.
The reason for the "safe update to mm" threads are for people who rooted and unlocked the boot loader. You'll need to follow one of those threads if you want root. Nothing wrong with just updating to mm other than you'll have to downgrade to 5.1.1 if you later decide you want root and unlocked boot loader
These phones become really unstable if you just try to root and you lose root once you restart the phone.

Interesting and I did not know that. How would the OP know if it was safe to upgrade? Check that his current (or prior version, not sure where he is in the process) was SPR and then proceed to use a TAR that was the same?

Not necessary either.
I did tried to download different tar files of the same Sprint firmware version which are SPR, XAS,... and guess what? They are exactly the same, even every bit.
That means, OP could flash any csc tar file, as long as its for s6 sprint (g920p***** tar file). The phone stays unlocked still.
The only thing that locked my s6 back was when i used Samsung phone info app to change the CSC. The phone rebooted and locked. I had to unlocked it again and it costed me some bucks...

I need 4.1.1 firmware for Koodo i-317M

Hello guys,
For some reason, my phone shows that my SIM is locked ( I was on RR 6.0). I need to flash the 4.1.1 firmware for Koodo to unlock the SIM.
Can anyone send me a link for this firmware?
Thank you!
You don't need Koodo to unlock the sim. Just flash the stock LJ2 firmware with Odin and use the dialler menu to permanently network unlock the phone.

Maybe this will work: http://rapidgator.net/file/0207e341...yos.com/samsung-galaxy-note-2-stock-firmware/
I know it's been a long time, but did this procedure actually WORK? AFAIK, Koodo Note 2s never came with less than KitKat, and we all know that Samsung has blocked downgrading though its bootloader starting then.
The reason I ask is I'm looking for a spare phone for mine as a backup and can't seem to find one on which I can load my Jellybean 4.1.2 CM based phone image.
Well this an interesting post, I have a similar problem, I have 2 exact Note 2 phones one with custom firmware (4.1.1) one without, I would like to copy/clone the stock firmware to my other (as I somehow managed to delete the stock firmware on it)
Now I have made a backup with TWRP and copied it to the other phone but TWRP refuses to install it, it tries to install and gets most of the way but at the very end I get the 255 error "install failed"
Why can't I copy/ install this backup?
Do I need to to use some other recovery software or make a backup some other way.
Thanks

The note 2 sgh-i317m was used by Telus, Rogers, and Bell.
This downgrade method works. I've used it to network unlock four note 2 models.
The stock 4.1.1 firmware from sammobile.com did not contain a bootloader file which allowed me to flash it using Odin on a phone running a stock 4.4.2 rom.

Man, if this really works it's going to solve all my problems. Are you saying you can flash the 4.1.x ROM on top of the the 4.4.2 bootloader (presumably one could deselect the bootloader from the 4.1.x ROM if it was included - sorry I'm quite rusty at this, haven't used Odin in years), so that the phone may be running ICS or JB despite having a 4.4.2 encrypted (locked) bootloader?
The idea is being able to load Clockworkmod recovery and from it, the rooted 4.1.2 backup on my external sd card...
Sorry if it's been asked before and if I may be confused - Thing is, I haven't done this type of tweaking in 5 years
I could flash a stock 4.1.1 ROM from sammobile.com on top of a stock 4.4.2 ROM because the stock 4.1.1 ROM didn't contain a bootloader. I did this to use the menu method to network unlock the sgh-i317m; however, the phone cannot stay on a stock 4.1.1 ROM with a 4.4.2 bootloader because the phone cannot connect to a cellular network with this 4.1.1 ROM/4.4.2 bootloader combination. After I unlocked the phone, I either re-flashed a stock 4.4.2 ROM or a new custom ROM.
The bootloader on the Canadian Note 2 was never locked the way it was with some USA carriers.

Are you saying the Koodo/Rogers.... 4.4.2 Note 2 bootloader is NOT locked on our phones, ergo, that I could downgrade to 4.1.1 including its bootloader successfully?! If so I'm set, I could purchase a used one on kijiji and simply reload my old Bell based ROM backup on it I simply look for a way to load my 5 year old Rooted ROM onto a newer version of the phone. I have on it apps that won't run on 4.4.2 that I sorely miss on my tablet (which runs 4.4.4)
The bootloader is not locked which allows for the installation of TWRP and cwm but it cannot be downgraded.

In other words it does allow for installing the 4.1.1 ROM for unlocking the phone, but it can't can't actually be used with the 4.1.1 ROM... What if I simply reinstalled the 4.4.2 modem, wouldn't that work?
I now I'm asking quite a lot - but in my case if I haven't been able to find a used phone that hadn't been at some point 'upgraded' and consequently became shackled (I've been looking for over a year now) in which case I might as well mourn it and move on to a new phone and start the fight for freedom all over again Honestly, I've grown tired of having to fight for the basic right of ownership against the relentless push for slavery that is the general trend in technology, to force people away from freedom of using the software they prefer and force them into a system where they must follow the dictates of corporate giants so perfectly exemplified by the cell phone, computer and browser based service industry.
Like Frederick Douglass famously said "Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never had and never will"... In other words if you want freedom and true control, you MUST FIGHT the providers and the manufacturers whose prime interest is to keep you enslaved
Installing the 4.4.2 modem will install but the stock 4.1.1 dialer doesn't work with a 4.4.2 modem and 4.4.2 bootloader from what I recall. It's been a long time since I had a note 2.
