Newbie here, I think I soft bricked my phone - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey, I don't really understand what I did but I'll try to explain. So I downloaded kingroot rooted my phone, but I wanted to switch from kingroot to supersu I followed a guide, but what I didn't realise was that the guide had a warning saying that the version of supersu.me they linked to wasn't working with phones with latest Android version (I have 5.0). So I used supersu.me it said it worked, opened supersu it told me it needed to update the binaries I said okay, and chose normal mode. Then it said failed need to reboot it rebooted my phone.
Now at first it got stuck in a bootloop I entered recovery mode and factory reset it. Now it turns but nothing on touchscreen only Wi-Fi no signal and time on top and home button below
I have an lg h735

1. Reboot to recovery - Power button+Home button+volume up then factory reset if this don't work:
2. Download a 4.4.2 rom from Sammobile and flash through Odin and then repeat the procedures to install Dr Keaton Rom.
Hope you can solve the problem.

You did a lot of steps that shouldn't have been done in the first place so instead of trying more things that wouldn't work just flash the official stock NE1 firmware from https://mega.co.nz/#!2QRmCbyb!YkWs927BfvYxqL-vJiQHXkshqG3UtqHm4XIDbgLsEK0 ,extract the zip file you'll get a tar file ,put your phone into download mode , (uninstall kies) only run odin, connect the phone to computer, make sure the ID:COM turns blue then check mark AP/PDA tab on odin and select the downloaded firmware.Dont touch anything else hit start and let odin do it's magic once your dad's phone successfully boots and you get network etc etc.then ask me i'll tell how to root the stock firmware and run custom ROM.Good luck.

Edit: After factory reset if it still boots in your old ROM, reflash the stock rom i gave you and then tell me what happens.

Yes you dont need bootloader nor wifi fix anymore since flashing official stock 4.4.2 you are on the newest boootloader. Now you need to root your phone. So you need philz touch 6.41.tar file and supersu v 1.97.
Philz tar file
SuperSu v1.97
Refer to this post of mine in another thread How to root
The above posts show how to flash recovery in odin and do exactly what it says in the image UNCHECK AUTO REBOOT IN ODIN once its done flashing and says pass phone wont be turned off so remove the phone from laptop and pull the battery out and follow my instructions there.
Once you boot your phone again after flashing superSU it will ask you if you want to disable KNOX select yes (knox will be triggered to 0x1 that means warranty will be void)
Also thank the person when you visit his thread since he made the thread and i just helped him a bit.his id is smeet.somaiya

Thanks. Thanked the person. And Your Post.
Just installed cwm and super su. thanks again.
Btw the link to download odin seems to be spamware, insted of downloading odin, i got a program 104kb giving lots of options, and at the end still did not install odin. Just for info. (i already had odin later version, and used that before, but wanted to check if a newer one is available, so header over there).
Going to install dr ketans custom rom. fingers crossed.
Thanks for all the help, will update, how it goes.
It never asked me to disable knox...
Would it be problematic if knox is not disabled ? as i wanted to use knox.
...
Finished flashing dr ketans rom, and it booted just fine, albiet slow compared to the stock rom.
Thankyou Pratik for all the help with detail and correctness.
Bless You.

Ya i think all the custom ROM for our note 2 are heavily modded the latest ones that's why sometimes just to feel the smoothness i flash back stock ROM and when i get bored of them i flash one of the custom roms.Glad to know you were able to successfully flash the rom of your choice.Enjoy.
Help
Hello everybody, I have a problem with my galaxy note 2 N7100.
The problem is the following:
One day I was using my phone normally, and all of a sudden the screen turned off and the phone never turned on again, (if you press the power button the screen turns a little gray, but you must be in a dark place to perceive it)
I can't access download or any other mode, or at least I can't detect if the phone has accessed it, because the screen just turns a little gray and does nothing else.
I have the drivers and have the official ROM for my region, ODIN installed, ADB, and other flashing tools and recovery files. But it has been long time since the last time I flashed something or did anything to the device and would appreciate a little help.
Can anyone here help me to solve this issue or knows what is happening with my phone?
Thank you for any kind of help you can give me
Update: I "think" I got into download mode blindly, just press the home+power+down vol buttons, then pressed up vol and connected the phone to the usb, surprisingly the computer made the usb sound that indicated me that the connection was recognized, Odin showed the ID:COM blue, so I proceeded to load the original rom and flash it, it took around 3.5 minutes and finally it showed succesful. But when I pressed the power button to turn on the phone, the screen still grey and doesn't start. I'm starting to think its a screen problem. I already purchased a new screen so I'm going to tell a frend to install it for me.
I'll be in touch

Stuck in boot screen

I unlocked my bootloader, installed custom recovery and rooted my phone so that I can install custom ROMS.
However, when I install a custom rom phone does not boot. It will get stuck on the HTC logo screen. I tried Android Revolution, InsertCoin and SkyDragon roms with same result.
I also tried to flash boot.img via fastboot with no joy.
I have S-ON (I tried to turn S-off but that attempt failed as well)
Can somebody please help me before I bust this phone up?

I know this definitely happens with Android Revolution, but if you leave it alone for long enough, it will boot. I am running SkyDragon now, and it seems to work just fine. Even though I am S-Off'd, it should still work for you since you have an unlocked bootloader. Can you post a screenshot of your phone in bootloader mode?
It might be because of your firmware. Do you happen to be on Verizon?

You are right. I just found out that I was not waiting long enough for it to boot. However, everytime I restart the phone it takes almost 10 minutes for phone to boot but I shut it down and start, it would start.
Now, I dont cannot get root on SkyDragon. SuperSU says "The SU binary needs to be updated. Continue?" I would hit continue and hit "normal". I get "Installation Failed! Please reboot and try again" error message....Ugh this has been very frustrating...

I had the same problem.. what fixed it for me was getting on my stock ROM and doing HTC's OTA update to 4.4.3. This updates your firmware and make it compatible with newer firmware ROMs (such as Android Revolution) To do the OTa if you don't know how I recommend restoring a stock nandroid , flash the stock recovery and you should be ggod to go.

so what should I do ?
The 'SE' part of SEandroid stands for 'security enhancements' and is like SELinux developed by the NSA. You might have also noticed this message in red letters when booting into a custom recovery. Basically, the phones knows that the kernel or recovery is not legitimate software made by the manufacturer and does not have the same security layers intact
Im sorry for such the late reply but before tried rooting your phone did you factory reset ??

Is that a key thing to do`? I too cant get twrp or cf-root to work (boot loops). Have not done a factory reset. Should I do it in stock recovery and then go to download and flash with odin`?
Solved it!

Hey guys. Today I tried rooting for the first time using this guide
In the third step of the article "3.Flashing TWRP and Rooting via TWRP" I pressed cancel when it asks for an encryption password(I hadn't put one yet). I also flashed the english TWRP( Recovery file) and not the one provided in the article . Now the phone just wont boot. Whenever I try to boot it, it gives me the error message:
"Your device has been unlocked and cannot be trusted.
ID: N/A"
And TWRP comes up everytime .
When i try booting from factory it shows:
"Your device has been unlocked and cannot be trusted.
ID: bad key"
and TWRP comes up.
The phone is still recognized in adb.I still haven't flashed SuperSU if that helps.
Should i Flash stock recovery and try again ?
Please send help, guys.

I have similar problem like yours. The solution to boot your drvice. If your in twrp go to advance - reboot - bootloader. And in bootloader menu click start. And your phone now is booted
This is a alternative solution. But it wont damage your device. Trust me

I don't think I messed with the OS . I just unlocked the bootloader and flashed TWRP without flashing SuperSU.(done it for the first time for my Moto Z play). Used Wipe to clear davlik, cache and that's it.haven't done anything in the recovery since then.
The only thing i remember messing up was to not input the encryption key when it prompt me for it by clicking cancel.
I've read in some forums that it doesn't boot if it doesn't have SuperSU flashed, but I'm not sure if it's safe since i don't exactly know what might or might now permanently brick my phone.
Also some forums had something to do with patching the kernels (don't know if that's what you call it) but i don't know if it's a safe thing to do since it might also permanently brick my phone.

You used the Chinese TWRP originally? Now you have alberto97 TWRP? Is this correct?
I would flash a custom ROM, why I'm saying that is it's far safer flashing a zip ROM than trying to flash the stock firmware.
Again I will remind people the flashing bootloaders on moto devices will inevitably cause hard bricks if you downgrade and the accept an ota.
---------- Post added at 06:47 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:39 PM ----------
The only solution and this applies only if you want to remain on the stock ROM.
Download the retail firmware and only manually flash the boot.img, the 10 sparsechunks and the OEM.img.
Do not use rsdlite!!
This should boot your phone.

I would flash a custom ROM, why I'm saying that is it's far safer flashing a zip ROM than trying to flash the stock firmware.

Which Custom ROM do you think is the safest possible alternative?

Again I will remind people the flashing bootloaders on moto devices will inevitably cause hard bricks if you downgrade and the accept an ota.

Can you explain this a bit better ? I would like to understand what i'm getting into !

The only solution and this applies only if you want to remain on the stock ROM.
Download the retail firmware and only manually flash the boot.img, the 10 sparsechunks and the OEM.img.
Do not use rsdlite!!
This should boot your phone.

Could you,if possible, link to me to the respective article ? Do I need to Get the firmware for Nougat or does it depend on security patch as well?

I would install the aosp ROM as it is bare bones android.
As for bootloaders, when you receive an ota it flashes a new bootloader.
What some folks have done is because they feel like a new ota isn't working to their liking, they have downgraded their firmare, either by flashing the firmware package that can be downloaded. They flash the entire package including bootloader, what this does is set up a perfect hard brick scenerio for moto devices.
They accept an ota or for reasons that are beyond uderstanding, sideload the package and bam as soon as they restart there device it bricks their device due to the mismatched bootloaders.
You are unlocked and the easiest way to prevent hard bricks is to for go flashing firmware.
I'm running validus 7.1.2 on the original bootloader that was installed on MM.

I'm attempting to build a stock flashable TWRP stock 7.1.1 ROM.
You may also flash any flashable TWRP stock 7 rom, either bye me or dedracks

Is it fine if i go ahead with this and see if it works ?
I will try to flash a custom ROM if it doesn't.

That's fine and it's my ROM lol.
You may want to format your data but first try to flash the ROM and see if it boots.
That Chinese TWRP is a nasty thing

How will flashing a new logo help me get out of boot loop ? AFAIK it only replaces the warning.

Bro are you sure you followed my instruction? In twrp menu click on reboot>bootloader
Then it will boot the device in bootloader mode. And in the bootloader menu click on "start" using the power button. Then it will boot your phone. Everytime you reboot your phone do the same step. If you want to get rid of that thing you need to flash official rom via rsd lite

Rsdlite sucks, never flash any firmware with resdlite unless you know which lines need to be removed from the text file that tells rsdlite what to flash.
manually flashing firmware is IMO much safer and all you need to flash is the boot.img all the spareschunks and oem.img
