Xperia M5 - Boot Animation problem - post your results - Sony Xperia M5

Hi all,
When I restart or switch on my phone I do not get any animation.
Every time, after the Sony and Android logos, I get a "pop up" saying starting applications and a little spinning waiting wheel.
Normally Xperia phones have a nice animation at the start.
On first switch on or on an update you get a similar message, but that counts the apps and says something like initialising apps or something.
If I go to accessibility and switch on quick boot, that removes the pop windows but still no animation (too quick maybe).
A first step is to find out if this is normal on an M5.
Can you please post what you get on a reboot?
It should only take 2 mins - THANKS!

Hi,
I believe this is an issue due to the shutdown case, since the update of X.1.46 and up.
By the time it shuts down, the time resets, the android will optimise for the apps then starts up.

@otsukaranz thanks for replying.
Does that mean you also see a similar screen each boot?
As I said, I do NOT get the "apps optimising" just starting - either way no animation.

ok, i get it.. i think if you had rooted your phone and get messed with bootanimation files, this must make sense. However, if not, how about try to backup your settings and files thru Sony PC Companion and run Repair or Flash new FTF file using Flashtool.

You probably messed your system somehow. Since I got my unit I used the 30.0.B.1.23, 30.1.B.1.33 and now 30.1.B.1.55 firmwares and in all of them the boot animation shows and plays fine, the only weird think I noticed was in initial 30.0.B.1.23 firmware where sometimes the boot animation would start playing then suddenly cut directly to the lock screen before the actual animation finished but this seems fixed in current firmwares...
About the optimizing apps, it only shows here when I update to a newer firmware or when I install Xposed or manually clear the Dalvik Cache (nothing unusual either)...

yep, even without root I had enough "control" to mess my phone
Now all fixed, thanks guys!

[Q] defrost freezes in reboot, but starts normal

Hi,
I'm a real neewbie so please be gentle.
I've rooted my phone and put defrost 5.4 on it.
Works good and i'm figuring out how things work.
I found out now that when i reboot the phone it gets stuck in starting up.
The colors exploding from the left and the right side to become a "X", but then after a while the x is not made any longer and after half an hour it is still trying to make an X.
Take out the battery, put it back and start the phone and it starts normal.
When i install something from the "defrost setup" its downloaded and when i press install the phone restarts, it is unpacking the file, reboots and then gets stuck again.
Have to take out the battery to start the phone again.
What can be the couse of this??
Just found out that also a "normal start" ends up in a endless bootscreen.
The only way to start the phone is take the battery out, put it back and press "start".
Do a full wipe and try another ROM is my first suggestion.
So idid a wipe, after that a recovery (had to start all over again) but the endless bootscreen still remains.
???
1) Find a new ROM and put it on the root of your SDCARD
2) Boot into Recovery by pressing BACK and the POWER button
3) Perform a full wipe (data/factory reset) and cache
4) Flash the new ROM
5) Boot the phone
If you still have problems post logcat.
i've cleaned and whiped (i think) almost everything.
Installed a fresh defrost 5.6.
Installed the defrost apps addon, the phone reboots and a screen apears with a android an a box with an arrow out.
Text is passing by, the phone reboots and starts up.
So far so good, but when i restart or reboot the phone its hangs in this endless lashing coulorfull screen.
I've tried to make a "logcat".
Hopefully it tells you more than it tells me.
i am having the same problem.
first off all: you can press power + volume down + optical joystick to restart phone.
no need to remove battery
my last logcat (with Error filter): www wog-fds.de/log_bootloop.txt
i started to have this problem when i redid the unrevoked process (dont really remember why, thou).
thx for help
edit: not sure but the first logcat looks like somethings missing
heres anotherone without filter www wog-fds.de/log_bootloop2.txt
thx
OK, maybe this is getting somewhere.
I also did a re-revoke, but i do know why.
the first attempt to root my phone ended up in a small disaster.
At the end of the proces i found out that i have a SLCD screen and not an AMOLED, so my phone was as good as dead.
Thanks to someone on a Dutch forum i was able to get my phone back to life.
After that i rooted my phone with the latest version of unrevoked, and this time i was succesfull.
But now i am encountering this problem and it is no fun.
I have at the moment nothing running on the phone because after a re-re-reinstallation i can start all over again with al the apps and so on.
It hangs at the final stages of the boot it looks like.
I had a similar problem when I was messing around with my old framework.
So why you're getting it, I have no idea.
First thing is first Bud
Download DeFrost 5.7 And use the latest version (Illuminate some issues to start with)
What your saying is the Boot Animation (The Multi Colour X animation "Nexus Boot Animation"
You get a boot loop on there....
How long have you left it trying to boot? the first boot after a Reflash does take alot longer than normal as it has to write to a number of files first.
(This only occurs on a New ROM or a Reflash of the frameworks)
So first off Lets Get that latest ROM on the SD Card:
Use w/e method you need to to get it on there
Turn the Phone Off "Where going to load recovery"
Press the Down Volume Key and press the power button Once.
You will see a white screen with Android images at the bottom:
Press the Volume down once (Recovery) when this is highlighted press the power button
Where now in a black screen Press Volume Up and Power
(We should now have a Blue Menu (Am taking it by the issues you talk about your using Clockwork Recover.......)
Go down to Apply sdcard:update.zip
And press the power button. So where now Clock Work Recovery
(If you dont have Clockwork i.e. Fake Flash Update.zip maybe someone can post it for me, Limited for time in work, But search for Fake FLash Clockwork if you dont have it.
Then go down to Wipe Date/Factory Reset
Select the only line that is Populated.
Go back to main menu and go to install Zip from SDCard and press the OJ
Select Choose Zip from SDCard.
Find you ROM and press the OJ
Wait some time and press the back button a few times, and select the reset option?
DO NOT INSTALL NO MODS OR THEMES, THIS CAN ONLY BE DONE AFTER A FULL BOOT OF A CLEAN ROM.
Leave it some time, as the first boot is always the longest.
Fingers crossed you should be OK.
What your talking about is a problem with the ROM (as the bootanimation is called by the ROM)

That'd be my guess too. If you try to apply a mod before you've let the ROM unpack itself it does exactly as you describe.
What your saying is the Boot Animation (The Multi Colour X animation "Nexus Boot Animation"

I've installed the defrost.
After it came in full working conditions i've added the defrost add-on.
Phone shuts down, starts again in the screen with the one doid and a box with an arrow out.
Some writing apears and the phone starts again.
The colours apears and making a cross and this goes faster and faster and then a screen where i have to enter my sim-unlockcode and the phone is up and running.
So far so good.
When i now switch the phone off or give it a reboot ( in the screen after a long press on the powerbutton) the phone starts in the white screen with HTC logo, then the colours apear making a cross, but after time this goes slower and slower until the cross is not ever made again.
The colours appear trying to make a cross and diappear and comming back again, and this goes on for ( i left it once for 1/2 an hour)
I will give it a go with the 5.7
thanks for the help.
Really, i heave my phone for one month now and it is my first android thing.
Never worked with linux etc etc.
What does "press the OJ" means ??
oj = optical joystick
@dave7802
thanks for the answer but i have the bootloop also when i do a manual restart without flashing anything.
i use defrost 5.7
i did a restart after flashing
bye
strange thing to happen. it must be in the ROM because it wasn't happening on the stock ROM.
so try another ROM some like cyanogen or opendesire. is it happening also?
Wel, i've come to the point that i think "WTF", it works and the only thing is the start/reboot.
I'm not going to re-re-re-re sign in to my google account, and not want to re-re-re-re-enter my mail account again.
Thanks to "olaxe" i know how to start the phone wthout taking out the battery.
anyway, everybodie, thanks for reading etc.
OK so you guys are still having the same issue.
Can we provide as much info as possible,
As i use DeFrost 5.7 and i just done a normal reboot and its working fine,
if its a problem with the ROM everyone would have the issue,
All i can think is a MOD you have installed is conflicting,
So some info you can provide:
What MODS are you running / installing, like Super Circle Battery, or Custom HAVS and SVS?
What version where they developed for?
i.e. are you installing MODS that where developed for an older version of defrost? as the frameworks change on each version and so do the HAVS and SVS
If your not flashing anything how about installing it?
It could be an app you used worked for an older version, and since the update its no longer working?
olaxe

You say you have not flashed anything? and then you said you restarted after flashing? i dont follow?
What settings are you using and apps do you have installed?
What are you doing in clockwork recovery, are you wiping then installing JUST DEFROST then letting your system start up?
or
Are you flashing a couple of things like defrost and super circle battery?
Dave,
A nephew, who ownes a desire and is "into android" from the moment of the first googlephone, was going to root my desire.
The great misstake (we found out after we've dit it) was that he used a version of unrevoke witch was mend for use with amoled and i own a slcd.
So my phone would'nt show anything anymore. Only the bootscreen when pressed vol down and power.
I've followed several advises of diehards, have put "this.zip" on the sdcard, "that.zip" and even "ifthisdon'twork.zip" shoot me.
All i got in the bootscreen was "no image" "no image or wrong image" and "version is older".
After a week a guy on a dutch forum told me to download some files to my computer, take the sdcard out of the phone, connect the phone to the computer and then type the following:
3. Typ in je commandprompt:
code:
1
2
3
fastboot erase cache
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip rom210.zip
After that the phone came back to live and i was happy as a child.
After that i did the unrevoked thing with the latest version and the phone was rooted.
Put the sdcard back, formatted it whitin the phone and after that i placed the defrost 5.4 on the root of the sdcard.
Did the full wipe, dalvikwipe and flashed the defost 5.4
After a while i had the defrost up and running.
In the defrost setup i found the defrost addon.
downloaded it (all IN the phone) and after that pressed "install".
The phone shuts down a screen appears with the one droid and a box, the phone restarts and is up and running.
Then i found in the defrost setup a file "no adds"
Installed that to and then the troubles start.
Hangs in the bootscreen.
I can only start the phone when the power is completely turned of ( battery out) or with vol down, power and trackball pressed at the same time.

[Q] Kaiser wont permenantly install froyo 2.2

Hey there , to start off , Im pretty new to putting android and stuff on here haha. Well I finally got it to boot up android using Haret.exe , but then today I decided I wanted it fully on my system without windows...well heres the problem
I flashed the kaiser by holding the camera button and hiting the reset button...which worked fine. Well after I did that , I hit the reset button , and the AT&T symbol came up , then after a few seconds the Penguin Boot screen comes up and starts doing the weird script thing , then I hit the Dpad to install. When It come to the screen , I make sure that Both NAND things are bubbled off , then I go at it and hit install , and clear all data etc , then it goes to formatting. And after everything is complete I go to quit , then it does some more black screen script stuff and then it started booting the green weird logo ( not the android , the one for Froyo 2.2 ) and then after a few minuites it finally boots up. I then wait 10-15mins for it to finish everything once installed , and then I turn it off by battery pull ( and normal shutoff , ive tried both). then when I turned it back on , It STILL goes to the at&t logo , and repeats EVERYTHING above..please help ,I have tried everything here , and nothing seems to work.....ahhh im so confused haha.
Regards , Dread
What is the problem? Does it boot into android after that? It sounds like you are just describing what happens when android boots normally.
If it's the AT&T logo you don't like, search on this forum for splash screens, there are lots of replacements to choose from.
It boots into android after that , but when I turn it off , I have to go through the whole install screen agian and then it has all the same settings , its just very annoying
Are you pressing the D-pad and installing every time you boot? You only need to install it once....
The second time you turn it on, just don't press anything while it's booting, and it will go straight into android, with all your settings saved.
so why does it go to the weird boot text penguin screen? shouldnt android start up as soon as the phone boots? or is it supposed to be penguin screen , then android load screen?
it's not weird, all phone (and linux system) boot in this way.
Oh alright , Is there any way to make it into a bootlogo?

Not at the moment, but right now the text screen is there to show that the phone is actively booting into Android. Once it gets to a certain point, the Android boot logo will start, and the text screen goes away.
I know it looks messy, but look at it this way. You're able to see just what the phone is doing during boot, and see that the phone is still booting and not freezing up and crashing.
He can make a splash screen, just not one to cover the kernel bootloader. I have one that got left over on ths phone after a modded wm6.5 rom. I keep it because it shows CPU, memory and ROM/radio verson in the 2nd splash.
Sent from my Not So Super Froyo using XDA App
I can put a boot image while the kernel initializes but the text will still overlap it due to framebuffer issues.
another way is set the output to a virtual terminal so is not visible.

Problem Hard Resetting phone

I have a sprint note 4 running kitkat.
rooted some tweaks installed. anyway phone has bee getting unstable lately and blutetooth for calling is dead. streaming music works but anytime I try to use bluetooth for calls it immediately disconnect phone bluetooth when I make or recieve a call and then reconnect when I end the call (WTF right??)
anyway finally broke down and figured factor data wipe time. reinstall clean.
so I backup all my stuff take screenies of anything I think I will need to remember etc.. move all data from internal to external storage etc..
I go into settings and click reset device.
it reboots says warranty bit recovery set and then nothing. black screen. intermittantly I can see the open chested android graphic with "install system update" flash on the screen for a split second. this repeats forever.
after 10 minutes of this I pull the battery try to start same thing.
I tried holding vol up home power for a manual hard reset
exact same thing. I seem to be able to boot into download mode but not recovery mode.
suggestions?
EDIT :
I see in another thread you updated to 5.1.1.
yeah that is what I ended up doing except I said screw it and just went to lollipop. working on setting it up now (it booted fine)
trying to install the stripped rooted rom but I keep getting an error in recovery. footer wrong signature failure.
Ah... No twrp. ?
Yep. ID10T error did not follow instructions. All is working now.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S stuck in bootloop after flashing official ROM and factory reset.

After recovering from a previous bootloop issue with my Tab S, I'm in the same situation after flashing the official Samsung stock ROM for KitKat 4.4.2 via Odin.
When the ROM was first flashed, the tablet began working as per normal with the exception of it taking 10+ minutes to fully reboot and the device somehow restarting itself and loading the display within a second. However, after a few days, I kept receiving pop-up windows on the tablet stating that different applications (most of them I didn't have opened or running in the background at the time) weren't responding. A couple of days after that, more of said pop-up windows kept appearing on the screen, sometimes freezing the whole device until a push notification appeared in the background or the device force-rebooted itself.
I flashed the ROM again once or twice and cleared the cache partition to see if that made any difference, which it unfortunately didn't. I also removed the microSD card and SIM card, force-rebooting the device without them, and then with them when that test failed.
Now, for roughly about a week, the tablet has been stuck in a bootloop (the splash screen animation) where I have left it to drain the battery, leave it for about a day or so, and recharged it to 100%. So far there hasn't been any success.
Today I finally factory reset it to see if that may help, and the only thing that has changed is that the sound of the device rebooting is now playing when it does transition to the loading screen, which I had turned off previously when the tablet was still working.
Is there anything else that I may have missed that could help it work again? It's not rooted (and I would very much prefer to keep it that way) and has not had a custom ROM installed or flashed onto it. It can still enter Download Mode and Recovery Mode, but other than that and being about to use the Power-Volume Down technique, there's not much else I can do with it so far.

Factory reset, install stock firmware, wait ten minutes and you should be good.
But why kitkat? MM is available and working well.

It worked! Thank you so very much!
And I'm not a huge fan of updating my Android devices due to past experiences, but if this happens again, I might just update it to Marshmallow.

@ashyx
i love you man...this worked for me too...thank you...now i need to reinstall TWRP again and see what's cooking......
I had this problem recently too, with the added complexity that the "Factory Reset" option in recovery wasn't working -- it would say something like "MDM does not allow factory reset" and then just reboot.
Fixed it by directly flashing TWRP with heimdall, then booting into the new TWRP recovery, performing a factory reset, and then rebooting the OS. This time it got pass the bootloop.
i flashed new twrp for T700 it's bootloop cannot enter the twrp menu keep bootlooping ...what's the solution for this?please help
Help ME!
What are "stock firmware" and "MM"? and where to get it?
I've replaced the power button thinking it was a hardware issue but now I'm not sure. I've also installed a few different stock roms but still have the same problem. Does anyone have any insight as to what could be going wrong and what I can try to get it fixed? Thanks for any help you can give. The device is a Samsung SM T-800

Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 SM-T520 Stuck in Kind of a Bootloop of Sorts

So I feel like this is different from a typical bootloop (certainly different from ones I've had in the past). Any ideas short of factory reset would be very much appreciated. I just need it to load once more to do a Titanium Backup (and I guess I should install TWRP and do a nandroid backup)!
I've been using my Tab Pro for years now, rooted, works perfectly, and I always leave it on. I thought yesterday, perhaps this is a bad idea, I should turn it off every once in a while. But I wanted to play a game before I did. I click the game icon and then everything froze and it restarted itself.
It gets stuck at the SAMSUNG logo page. Sounds like a typical bootloop. After 20 minutes of waiting, nothing changes, so I hold down the power button and it restarts and actually loads to my home screen! Great! I swipe the screen lock, click on my game -- it restarts, rinse, repeat. Each time it restarts itself it stops at the SAMSUNG page, forcing a second manual reboot that fully loads, but doesn't go 10 seconds before restarting. I try to load different things each time and finally give up.
So I look some stuff up online. There's a suggestion to go into recovery (I could've sworn I had custom, but apparently not?) and "Wipe Cache/Partition." I look up that this is safe and do it (Sidenote: Power+Home+Vol Up only works around every 5th try or so. It glitches out every other time, there's a quick flash and a horizontal line and it restarts again). Now I restart and it worked! It loads and no reboot!
But now, a third of my apps/games have the android guy as an icon and even more of the real icons are all grayed out. I figure one more restart and it would come back. Now I'm back into my weird bootloop. I try wiping cache/partition again and again and it no longer works as a solution...
TL;DR - Tablet keeps restarting to SAMSUNG logo, requires 2nd manual restart. Home screen loads, but then restarts 10 seconds later. Clearing cache/partition made things worse. HALP!
EDIT: My current build is KOT49H.T520XXUANAE. I can't even find the stock ROM for this! Does it exist?
EDIT 2: After letting it charge for an hour (it was already 93%) I went back to it and it had loaded! But the home screen was blank save for the Google search and the Apps icon (which found no apps....). I was able to get into settings and attempted to click Application Manager and then it froze again.
Update: Still in need of help if anyone has any. A wonderful person on the forums linked me to my stock ROM, I pushed that through ODIN, it worked and did the "Android is Updating App XX of 200" thing.
It loaded and didn't crash! Most of the icons came back, but were still grayed out (I have a second partition via Link2SD which, when not rooted, doesn't load!)
So I went to Settings to see if USB debugging was enabled... and it froze. Kind of. It let me bring up the task bar and close settings, but not reload anything. Eventually I was forced to restart because I couldn't do anything. I tried booting into safe mode and still nothing.
Now when it loads, I get repeated "Unfortunately, Samsung keyboard has stopped working." and then the touch screen stops functioning and it restarts. I'm having a great day.

Few of this probs I did have too.
I would recommend to start from scratch and wipe also your data and sd-card (with TWRP). Install either stock or Custom, but put out your sdcard before re-booting.
Just play around and after that (with no probs hopefully) insert it again.

I appreciate the response, but as I said, I'm looking for anything shy of factory reset. If I lose all of my apps and data and configuration, I might as well throw out the tablet and buy a new one.
Still trying to figure out the pattern. I got another attempt of it not restarting for 10 full minutes. The keyboard failing is annoying because it doesn't stop, but I can live with it if it means being able to backup my tablet with Titanium Backup. I only got 6 apps backed up before it froze, but I'll get through all of them eventually (I hope). It's just going to be incredibly frustrating.
