So after a while, how does your N5X perform and would you still buy it? - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
So its time for me to get a new phone again from work, next month.
And as I'm not given an unlimited budget, I'm thinking of getting the Nexus 5X (then I dont need to pay any extre money).
Last time I got the Nexus 5, which still performs great, but its dated and is ofcourse out-performed by my private Galaxy S6.
Two years ago, I actually swapped my personal HTC M7 with the Nexus 5, cause it performed better.
I have the luxury of just using another phone for work, and keep that one for private use, its no problem.
Would you guys think the Nexus 5X might make me do the same again? Swap my S6 for the 5X?
I'm an IT person, so fps drops really grind my gears, in pretty much anything.
How does the 5X hold up on gaming these days? I cant imagine the UI/browsing/scrolling to cause FPS drops, cause that is still flawless on the normal Nexus 5 today.
Anyone else made the switch? Anyone else has this experience?
Thanks guys!

No, it's a medium range phone. Except the lack of biometric sensor, I prefer Motorola Phones.
I'm not totally happy with this phone.

Since the march update the phone is perfectly fine for most tasks. Gaming performance is fine too. But im not to picky. I went from a s6 to 5x. I switched because i killed my s6.... I prefer the 5x.
Skickat från min Nexus 5X via Tapatalk

It warms up a little in Asphalt 8 but no noticeable Lags.

I have the S7 and the N5X and using the Nexus as my daily driver.
Camera is still better on N5X and the experience always best even though the screen is a lot better on S7 and battery life also is better on S7 (tested several configurations with the N5X and can't make it the whole day with a little bit of music, 2 hours of video playing, and a little bit of browsing and whatsapp during the day).
Great phone that you can own for 280€ in Europe now... so best deal ever.

Going for the new HTC 10 the speaker in this phone is horrible.

try the surround sound mod in Nexus 5x themes and apps section . its a lot better now.

For me, the story starts and ends with Android updates, especially security updates. I'd thinkt that as an IT guy that would be high on your list of priorities as well. With the N5X, you'll get them as long as the hardware is still capable of running the latest Android version. Your S6 is nice now, but with the S7 out, how long do you think Samsung will continue to update the S6? I bought a Galaxy S3 on release around July 2012, less than 2 years later Samsung decided they were done and the phone still sits at Android version 4.4.2, with tons of security holes unpatched, even though here on XDA there are Android 6 ROMs for it. I mean, the S3 is *still*, 4 years after release, the most popular smartphone model in the world when you look at how many are still in use, and nearly all of them are vulnerable to security flaws that were fixed months or even years ago. Meanwhile the Nexus 5 was released a year earlier and is happily running the very latest Android version.

Literally the only issue I have with this phone is the speaker. I'll try the surround sound mod for that.
This phone is plenty fast. I switched from a 6P because it was too big. Going from the 810 to the 808 I haven't noticed a drop in performance, but I don't do anything performance heavy.

camera, fingerprint, stock android, quick updates, and dev community are flawless
after the march update, performance is perfect as well, both for normal use and gaming.
the only significant downside IMO, is that the battery is smaller than ideal for my daily use.
Also, and this is a lesser issue, the loudspeaker is sub-par.

I agree with everyone on the speaker, only other thing i wish was a better build quality, i have to use certain cases to get rid of the creaking plastic sound. For 200 dollars i plan on using this phone until the next Nexus.

The speaker is the only downside for me but I'm going to try some sound enhancements to see of it improves..
Despite of the small battery, battery life is still very good.. Performance is good and nexuses are so freaking smooth!

for me the speaker is bad, but since i dont listen music on speakerphone much, its not bothering me.. the only downside for me is charging the phone. not the speed of charging, but the fear of the phone might catch up in fire. few users had experience this. my 5x performs really good, coming from htc m7, would buy it if LG fix this charging burning issue.

Well ****. Lol didn't see that post. Did it say if he was gaming or doing something to stress the CPU? My phone is nice and cool when I charge it but I also don't touch it until its done. Only because fast chargers make the phone get super hot if you use it and charge. Easier to just wait

haven't looked back, absolutely LOVE this phone. everything about it is perfect for me, i use the spen almost every single time i use the phone and multi view is awesome (can't beat texting while watching netflix)
if you have to pay full price, then maybe check around just to be safe and make sure that this will be the phone for you, but i doubt you'll regret your decision if you do take the dive.
Its funny I visit all different device treads and I never hear anyone switching from note2 to n4,, its always n4 to n2 lol...this phone is top shelf.. had mine from november 2 ,,, nice ride

The battery on this phone is a beast. I watch movies and browsing net at the same time (with %60 screen brightness). I do this for a good 4-5 hrs. Play Myth Defense for an hour or so.
Guess what? Battery drops %20-30 only. This is pretty amazing.
Compare to my Note 1 this device is much more perfected. You wont regret it.
I sold a brand new Galaxy S3 and used the money to upgrade to the Note 2. Best decision I've made and the absolute best smartphone I've owned. You won't be disappointed.
I have the international unlocked S3, international unlocked One X, Galaxy Nexus, AT&T Optimus G, and a few others... got the Note 2 as my second line and it smokes them all. I have paid full retail for a couple of devices. The Note 2 is one that's worth it!!
Sent from my LG-E970 using Xparent ICS Tapatalk 2
I've owned a few devices -- an iPhone 3G (several years ago), an HTC Raider (defective, replaced with an HTC EVO 3D), a Samsung Galaxy S II LTE (Skyrocket), a Galaxy S III, and now the Galaxy Note II.
The Note II is by far, without a doubt in my mind, the best device I've ever owned. The user experience and battery life on the HTC's were dreadful (and I'll never buy another HTC product again). The S II LTE was a great phone that I managed to go almost two months without restarting, and the S III was a great device as well.
However, with that being said I tend to use my phone quite a bit (increasingly more than I even use my computer now I find) -- whether it be streaming audio when I'm walking or commuting somewhere, browsing the Internet, managing e-mail and calendar appointments, texting & making phone calls, the list goes on. I was hard pressed to get a days worth out of a single charge before I'd have to run somewhere and plug my phone in, but with the Note II, I can easily manage a day and a half or even two days and not have to really worry.
I've also played with the original Galaxy Note, which offered a decent experience but found that the S Pen was uncomfortable to hold and that outside of S Memo and a few apps on the Play Store there wasn't that much to differentiate it from the Galaxy S II. While many may think that the Galaxy Note II is just a blown up S III, it's not -- there's a lot more functionality baked into the software to take advantage of the S Pen (stuff like Air View, Quick Command, etc.) And you can hold the pen with a lot more comfort and use it accurately.
I've never been happier or more satisfied with a device than I have been with my Note II. Buy one, you won't regret it.
Get the phone

Battery life on this phone is insane. Normally get anywhere from 6-8 hours of screen on time. One time I got 10 hours of screen on time
Got it yesterday.
Sitting at 71% with 1hr, 50mins screen time. My other phone would be around 10% battery left after that screen time.
Amazing.

G Pro or Wait?

Finally got my termination letter from Sprint and will be switching to ATT sometime this month. I want to get a "Phablet" I know the new G2 coming out has a smaller screen and the Note 3 is going to have a bigger screen (Don't want to pay $300 for it either). I've only got until the end of the month, I don't really keep up with the new things coming out, is there anything really worth waiting for?
It really depends on what you are looking for. HTC will have there Phablet out soon, but honestly I would still take the ogp over any phone that's coming out for the next 8 months or so, lol. I've had tons of phones and as far as the g pro goes, it's the best features of every phone I've came across so far

I'm not thinking there is another phone out there (Note series of phones included), that can pull off this kind of battery longevity. I didn't tweak ANYTHING. Only thing it has is the PAC ROM flashed.

OGP can't get anything better at that price, if money not an issue the go for Note 3.
It depends if you want customize your phone... I have had every phone under the sun and just keep coming back to the ogpro.. Its a good solid phone.. Keep in mind all new phones are going to be locked that means no ROMs until they can unlock it... And its been how long now and the s4 bootloader is still locked... It's funny I just discussed this same thing with my gf yesterday in regards to keeping this phone or not. I too have had a lot of android phones from the HTC eris, original Droid, to the incredible, and GS3. ..and this phone is by far superior to all. Battery is the best I've ever experienced. G2 victories over G Pro:
- Cutting-edge graphics chip
- Ridiculous battery life
- OIS
- Interesting button setup
G Pro victories over G2:
- Bigger screen (+0.3" diagonal PLUS real estate gained by physical face buttons)
- microSD
- Awesome off-contract price, 50% lower contract price
- Removable battery
It's kind of an interesting contest. I really hate that you can't just have it all, but that's life. According to this list the G Pro is the clear winner for me, which is why a G Pro is making its way to me now from an eBay seller (I just had to save that extra $80 ).
If you care a lot about high-end gaming, the G2 is the definite way to go, no question. The battery life on the G2 is insane too, like mind-blowingly insane. If you're looking for a new kind of battery life experience people really haven't seen with a smartphone before (unless it was with a giant aftermarket battery), get the G2.
Otherwise, to me, the G Pro kind of takes the crown. I love huge screens (not Xperia Z Ultra huge, mind you lol) and on paper 5.2" sounds close enough, but those soft face buttons really steal a lot of real estate so it's not just 0.3" difference. The buttons pretty much only go away on video playback. I don't care about the graphics performance I lose by not going with the G2 since I'm only coming from a Galaxy Note N7000, but I really wish I could have the G2 battery life.
Cant really go wrong with this phone especially if you buy it out right I think it's the most bang for your buck. It's big it's fast it's very nicely designed we finally have some nice options for roms available plus it has removable battery and storage if you're into that sort of thing. Even on a stock rom the phone is solid rooted or not. I wish there were more accessories available like cases but I get by. I'm actually running my phone naked now and so far I haven't dropped it yet lol.

Anyone jumping to Nexus 5?

Hello!
So now that Nexus 5 is officially available...anyone jumping ship
I am thinking but the bigger battery(also replaceable) and bigger screen are making me think twice.
Things going for Nexus 5 are the "updates" ....so thinking and waiting for reviews...
I don't care much for the faster hardware as i usually don't play games much and 16 GB would be enough for me as my usage never exceeds 5 GB.
p.s. just thinking loud and sharing my thoughts ...please don't go ballistic on me

I doubt that I will. There's just not a compelling enough reason, and I bought my LG OG Pro with all it's features and 32GB internal memory, etc. for far less than the N5 16GB model!
No, it's nice, but not worth it.
Nope.. Let's see when Nexus 6 is released.. For now OG Pro is perfect for me.
Dat 5.5" screen + 32gb internal + external SD slot is what's keeping me from the Nexus 5.. Same as with the Nexus 4 and LGOG. My internal is half full and about half of my 64gb card is half full so I definitely need the storage space lol.

I have the F420L, and it makes me sad that there are very few developers working on the OGP and fewer still want anything to do with the F420 variants. The Nexus 5 has great software support from google and the dev community, but its hardware isn't that much better than the OGP to justify purchasing it right away.
Not really. Had my white (unbranded) OGP for only a month and loving it (looks and speed). The N5 just looks too plain for my taste and in white it doesn't look any better; Zebra complex.

Obviously just can't tolerate LG's late updates.
I really do miss the various roms I had on my S4. In addition, some kernels allow you to have 2 roms installed!
Mainly I miss development, and I sorta like how it looks (N5).
I am planning on buying one, then I will sell whatever I don't like

Well, I took G Pro for his big screen, perfect for watching tvshows and movies... so my answer is : no
Micro-SD slot is mandatory for me, or at least, 64gb internal memory !
I finally received my LG Optimus G Pro today, so all my previous comments have been based on speculation. I finally have had the chance to really use the device.
While I did enjoy the stock UI more than I anticipated, I ended up with CyanogenMod installed, which is what I had planned to do with the device. Coming from AMOLED devices in the past, I am extremely impressed with the LG's screen. I much prefer it, so for me, IPS is my new default standard. The color is far more balanced and reading on it (which I do quite a lot of) isn't as taxing on the eyes.
The sum of its parts makes the LG OG Pro the unsung gem in the smartphone world, IMO. I'm extremely pleased that I sold my S4 and even with the extras, such as the AT&T case that activates the phone when flipped open and sleeps the screen when closed (works fine on CM, btw) a dual USB car charger and some screen protectors, I still have $150 left over from the sale of my S4, and I doubled my internal storage capacity in the process.
If this device had a fully unlockable bootloader, I don't think I'd ever sell it. The S4 has cheap plastic trim, but it looks to me like the OG Pro has real metal. The camera shutter and flash works faster on the OG Pro than the S4.
All in all, there's not much compelling me to look at the N5. It costs more and gives me less of what I wanted.
Actually in my opinion there is no reason to jump to Nexus 5 until Dev support continues for this phone....saying that anyone has any estimates/predictions as how long will Cyanogen support will continue foe this nice phone? :highfive:

I don't see any reason why it would stop being supported. With Loki, we can continue to work around the bootloader, so I don't see any problem with future development, but there may be a major change in something that screws that up. If/when the bootloader is patched to prevent the Loki exploit from working, and if the bootloader is tied to major functions on the device, as it is in Samdung's S4, then we could have a problem.

Just got a Galaxy Nexus.....

Just curious if the attached image is about what I should be expecting in terms of battery life. The screen seems to draw a lot more than I'm used to (then again this is my first experience with AMOLED screens).
Also, for those who have rooted and installed cm or a similar custom ROM, would I see a significant difference if I went beyond the stock firmware?<br />

Yeah, I'm showing you in dev section.
Do you have the factory battery? Most people run the 2100mAh. For me a whole day with light usage I can get 14-16 hours (screen time <2 hours).
Check Neph's settings in his thread and troll around the DirtyV thread. Lots of kernel teeaks/undervolting, etc.

I'm running ToroEOS final build for TORO on an unlimited 4g contract vzw line. I use more bandwidth than screentime and average less than 2 hours screen time a day. 9-12 hours is the most I can get out of the stock battery (which is 30+ months old). This device is old, it is based on a VIA chipset that uses licensed Qualcomm 4G technolgy, I don't complain about real world statistics because I understand what this device is.
Not pissed about my bluntness? Good, it was not intended to be rude, please continue reading.
I use about 0.5GB - 2GB a day, I do not use WiFi, period. I would assume that I am getting excellent battery life, especially considering my abnormally moderate to high data usage (which is in spite of verizon removing unlimited + subsidized upgrade) and how it relates to the age of the device and the new-ness of LTE technology.
I've never bothered to look at the battery or screen stats, but I can say with 100% certainty after owning this device for close to 3 years that you will not be able to use a stock or any other battery AND BE A HEAVY DATA USER and get battery life > 1 day. I did not go to college for this nor do I work in the industry (semi-conductor/micro-coprocessor industry), but my real world experience has proven that this old device with an old 4g radio is one of the most inefficient devices made. Also, it gets hot enough to fry an egg and I have used 7 of these i515's, the radio sucks - a hot radio equals a fast draining battery, period.
Sadly, with all that being said, VERIZON has not yet allowed or released a legit unlocked-bootler + stock android device since the GNEX.
Good luck brother, may I recommend tethering to a tablet from sprint? They are cheap (free tab3 7.0" w/ contract) and the 5$ - 25MB monthly data plan for tablets is only $12 after tax and sprints assraping surcharges. ....
If you had this device when it was first launched, or even in its first year of existence, then you may remember 50Mb/s downloads and 80Mb/s uploads. We were early adopters and our memories have been jaded by marketing and disillusioned by our past experience. No device compares to ours as far as physical ownership goes (unlocked, rooted, etc.), yet almost all devices are spec'd better than ours. It is a sad and lonely lost cause.
/just another GNEX user clutching to the past.
@afextwin
For some reason I REALLY enjoyed reading that post. Wonderful wording. Are you a writer or something? Lol I also remember those crazy speeds.I got mine a few months after launch. That was around the time vzw had a couple LTE blackouts followed by full service blackouts. After the iPhone lte launch the network has never been the same.
I now have no carrier on my Gnex and use strictly WiFi with airplane mode on. Which has resulted in the only "good" battery life on this device. That is certainly a testament to the horrid drain the radio on this device can cause.
And to the OP. There are plenty of "stable" ROMs to choose from. Even many labeled as nightly's are plenty good and stable enough to run as a daily driver OS on the Gnex due to its great support from developers who have hashed out many issues long ago

Yup it's the factory battery. Actually doing pretty good today battery wise. Phone and I probably needed to get to know each other better. I'm still tempted to root and flash a custom ROM. I'll try to wait for stable cm11.

I've had the phone since day one... In fact I've had another motherboard installed and I get nothing as good as you show. I suspect that's an extended battery?
And yes I always have problems posting from tapatalk

Who is still using their Note 7?

Who is still using their Note 7 even though samsung told us to stop using and power down our phones? Im still using my Note 7 while waiting for my replacement but I'm a little concern now since I saw those news headline about Note 7 incidents one after another.
Are you still using your Note 7?
Yes, still using it!.
I'm using mine, I dont have any problems with it, it never gets up to past 38C fast charging 3.0 + intense gaming, performance is amazing no lag or shutter even in pornhub with multi window. I cant complain about anything with this unit, I'm afraid they would actually send me a device that doesn't run as well as this one. I love this damn thing!

The ultimate test !
I am using mine, i haven't had any issue with it. I take extra caution when charging. I don't fast charge, charge when i am awake and keep an eye on it. It doesn't even get warm when charging. The phone seems to be a winner. I will replace it when i can....but still i was told not until Oct 1! Like the other user, I can only wish to receive a replacement that is of the same user quality as the one i have now!

AND, it's waterproof for when you accidentally forget to move the phone out of the blast radius when surfing Pornhub!
Still using mine, waiting for replacement, best smartphone I've ever had.
I do but I've taken some precautions....

Still using it with no issues.
Samsung UAE told me yesterday in a live chat, that it is safe to use it if I don't experience any issues...
Interesting, isn't it?
It is still the best phone I ever had...

Every day.
I will wait patiently for the replacements.
My free 256GB memory arrives tomorrow.
I do not plan on jumping ship, IMHO Sammy has acquitted themselves quite nicely. T mobile as well.
The media and fans of other manufacturers have let themselves go.

Still happily using mine, runs like a top.
What is pornhub:highfive:
i am still using mine until t-mobile gets in the v20. then i will switch mine out. i only charge it during the day and luckily it doesn't really get hot during usage.
I don't believe i can best the comment the guy that did the porn hub test which by the way is impressive and reassures me I have a great phone. Currently I'm charging it and temp is about 31.6 C. On one hand I want to replace it, on the other hand I'm afraid the replacements will be tuned different. I game heavily on this with a case on and it doesn't get any warmer than any of my other Android powered phones I've had. Im impressed with this phone. I'm curious on where everyone's phones are running temp wise and how yer using the phone. Thanks guys.
love mine! planning to keep using it unless I can replace another exynos variant.
Still using mine though in the last few days its started showing some worrying trends with the battery just going from 40% 50% or 60% to 0% apart from that its running beautifully as others have said i hope the replacement runs as smooth.
I am now charging in a baking tray however just to be on the safe side and fast charge is off... i think first thing i will do is turn fast charge off on my replacement when i receive it as well. I cant see how it can be good for the battery in the long term.

What kind of issues did they warn you for? Cause in my mind I'm reading this like 'Well if it's not exploding then you can use it!' :')
People still using it might want to read/do this for extra peace of mind:
