Nexus 5X Slow Performance - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

While I have experiencing this A LOT of times:
http://f.cl.ly/items/2S2j1B3l0h2l1B2N2k2z/Untitled.mp4
I also did a recent discovery today: The Moto X Play its faster when it comes to take pictures, also a lot faster than the N5X with HDR enable in both phones.
Im really, both amazed and disappointed by this. I switched from a Moto X Play to the N5X to find only lags and slow performance.
Anyone else have experienced something like this? Is this a general problem or my device could be defective?

You actually switched from a moto x? are you nuts?

There where a lot of complaints about the Moto X Play, i even participated in tests for find a way to speed it's performance.
And yes, while the Nexus 5X it's faster, the Moto X Play it's more stable.

How often do you need to take HDR pictures and do you really need to press the shutter every second? If you know how to selectively expose a scene properly then HDR is not needed at all. While NX5 takes excellent pictures, I only use it when extremely needed. A dedicated camera especially ones with WIFI connectivity for direct upload to social networking sites is far better than any camera phone out there.

You're experiencing lags and freezes. Serious ones too! Mine for a little slow after the April MHC19Q update. So I wiped it and it was much better after a factory reset. I also go to developer mode and turn down all three animations to to 0 and enable force GPU rendering.

Well, the problem is that it slow and freeze with only 3 or 5 HDR pictures, is not that many. And the Moto X Play, even the Nexus 4 can handle more than that. The video I uploaded was even before I take any picture, I just opened the camera app.
I blame the encryption since it doesn’t make any sense that those smartphones can handle that process faster.
About “A dedicated camera especially ones with WIFI connectivity for direct upload to social networking sites is far better than any camera phone out there.” I have used my cousin S7 Edge and its impressive fast for pictures, and with the N5X and S7 with raw support, I believe we should be able to handle without the need for a dedicated camera.
I already sent my N5X back in hope to receive a new device, maybe there was something wrong with the internal storage read/writes.

Mine was already reset to factory settings for the 3th time, so I gave up and sent it today for replacement. I don't think this is the kind of device that need the animations to be disabled, my gf Moto X Play doesn't need that, even the Nexus 4 im using right now doesn’t need that.

I just wanted to say that I sent my Nexus 5X back to LG for repairs, following own Nexus Forum recommendation:
https://productforums.google.com/d/msg/nexus/sFmrWiceXf4/bAEAdlO_BwAJ
But I got back my phone in this state:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u...s5x_lg_warranty/photo_2016-08-23_17-24-10.jpg
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u...s5x_lg_warranty/photo_2016-08-23_17-24-15.jpg
Also I need to say that they sent me back my phone without the box, charger, original cable and everything else inside the box.
Since the phone wasn’t rooted and was still encrypted it was a nightmare to get it working by my own, but I finally managed to install a custom recovery and from there do a clean install, but to find the LG sent my my phone without the SIM tray.
I had to buy a new charger, cable and sim tray, but I have the phone working now.
If I use the stock rom or CyanogenMod rom I still get the same exact problem in my video, but with Dirty Unicorns seems that the problem its gone for good, so i still believe its a software problem, but as long I stick to DU i should not have problems anymore :good:

So worth it?

I have one reserved to pick up in my local store now but not sure if its worth it when I got a Galaxy S2 and a iPhone 4S.
The screen is what interests me mostly but no idea how better that is compared to the two phones I have and heard about hardly any apps work on ICS yet e.g Facebook and so on.
Anyone who owns one would you say its worth it or stick to the two phones I have?

I cant talk for anyone else but myself in this regard. I have had my GN for about 24 hours now and have to say its the most amazing phone I have ever owned. Colours are rich and vibrant. Camera is fast as hell and yet still manages to focus. 5MP is more than enough for a camera, if I want to take professional shots then I will take my 16MP DSLR out but the majority of shots taken with phones are for social networking sites which resizes and compresses the image anyway so it doesnt matter. Speed is smooth as running a hot knife through butter and pretty much every program that I had running on Gingerbread works on this phone. The Tegra2 optimised games obviously wont work (apart from Guerilla Bob which works great) but I think I have installed about 60 apps and games since yesterday and only 3 or 4 havent worked. Facebook and Skype both work on my phone, even video calling works .
The main problems so far are satnavs (closes or stays black) and video players. I will try a few more satnavs and report back. Video players either stop running or wont install but that will soon be sorted so I have no worrys there.
I havent noticed any of the software problems that people are reporting but with a Nexus you HAVE TO REMEMBER that it is the first phone to have the latest software and its inevitable that there will be a few bugs to start with. Thats what updates are for and they will be ironed out soon enough. Developers will quickly update there apps for compatability with ICS and new apps will be made to enhance this beautiful screen.
If you have any more questions please ask away but I would definitely recommend getting it
Mark.

Well as I have only had the phone a day I cant comment about battery life at all as its been on charge pretty much the whole time. I like to give new phones a good days charge to make sure its maximum benefit from the first charge. Will know more about that after about a week when it starts to settle down into normal life.
The screen IS simply amazing. Its beautifully sharp especially when playing back 720p movies and its got the same coating on as the iphone to resist finger prints so it doesnt get that dirty look as quickly as other phones.

Hi Mark, how is the GPS fix time and accuracy compared to, e.g., your HD2? I've heard Samsung quite suck at the GPS department. Does this barometer sensor really helps improving the GPS fix speed like Google developers explained? Thanks.
Thanks mark that is good to know. I would like to switch my gs2 for nexus. Is nexus as smooth in web browsing and overall as gs2?
Could you mesure gps precision with gps test app?
Thanks.

The screens awesome, much better than the retina display IMO as its bigger with equivalent resolution and much better blacks because of the SAMOLED. Having to post on my sister-in-laws iPad as my nephews playing shadowrun on it and I can't get him off it.
Mark thank you and I took the plunge and picked one up.
Firstly amazing, the screen is mind blowing playing HD videos for a phone. Secondly ICS is miles ahead of Gingerbread. Can't speak highly enough of it experience wise so far.

[Q] Suggestions for using a HTC One V without cell service

Hi all-
Been using android tablets for a while now but this is my first android phone (OK, not really, but the last one was on Donut... I don't think that even counts anymore...). Anyways, picked up the one V on Cyber monday ($54 w/tax - $17.50 from fatwallet = awesome!). I have no intention of ever using it as a phone, but it's certainly a nice little android device. I might use it with grooveip to make occasional wifi calls (damn this 2-year iPhone contract...), but other than that, this is just going to be a media player / gaming device.
So I'm just curious: anyone else using one of these as a media player or gaming device, and any suggestions? I've already unlocked and rooted, but so far haven't ROMmed or themed, so I'm open to suggestions if anyone has them, including apps or other uses I haven't though of.
Thanks!
Also- I have it on airplane mode to save batteries. Is there any way to get rid of the "airplane mode" panel on the lockscreen, and the Airplane icon on the status bar? It's not necessary, but it would be nice if anyone knows how to do it.
As for getting rid of the airplane notification, not really.
I gave my HTC Desire to my son, no sim card and he is fine with it. Lots of alternate WiFi calling and texting apps out there.
Basically you'll have an Android powered IPod touch with superior build quality and infinitely customizable.
I recommend buying Titanium backup, app backup to the cloud etc. This way if you play with lots of ROM flashing it is easy to restore all your usual apps, with everything else Google, dropbox etc no computer required.
If your happy with stock, or rooted stock then play away, this is a light weight portable device.
Have fun

I'm certain that fatwallet pending of 17.50 isn't going to go through but if it does, lucky us.
I prefer the stock sense rom because of the camera feature and i swap my kernel so overclocking to 1.8GHz stable. Ram is really limiting the device but firefox seems to work faster than stock/google chrome.
Stuck my 32GB micro sd in it. It's a GPS (navigon), game, web browser, texter (G-Voice).
Lastly, I'll say this I actual like the device's size. Smart phones are getting too big, like my nexus 4. Snowy days like these I'm too scared to take my Nexus 4 to class so I take my HTC one V. I'm not afraid of dropping or being more risky (Nexus 4 glass front/back).
Future I hope there be a quad-core 2GB ram in a size of 3.7 It's nearly the perfect. Like a true phone instead of extra large phone.
PS: Swipe is amazing.

Stock rom is very laggy when it comes to games and apps. This doesn't happen with any other custom rom. If you need it only for gaming I would recommend cyanogenmod 9 or 10, aokp or any other non-sense rom, because sense is very heavy.
Sent from my HTC One V using xda app-developers app
I also bought this phone on cyber monday and do not pay for service as I am on T-Mobile and have the sgs3. This is a cool lil phone. Sense is cool and all and am currently running stock because cm based ROMs give me a weaker WiFi signal in my experience since this is a WiFi only device that is a big no no.
I hate HTC bootloader but their build quality is top notch, pretty much the opposite of Samsung which is open yet the build quality is lacking

the playmemories app keeps crashing on me, sony needs to update it for kitkat i think
Thanks. Can you use it the native camera app for those lenses?
I have used it on nexus 4, and it works flawlessly. No idea why won't it work for nexus 5. But yeah, may be it won't be compatible for kitkat. When Z,Z1 get's kitkat's update, probably it will work after that. They won't just update it's compatibility for nexus 5.
should try camear360 out
apparently you can use the camera 360 app to access the sony lens cameras play. google. com/store/apps/details?id=vStudio.Android.Camera360 (sorry, remove space as needed)
curious to see if it is better than the playmemories app (people commented that it had been plague with problems)
Why will you never buy another sony phone?
Let me know if camera 360 work i'm making some video with friends (nothing important, just some funny videos XD). Audio and image sucks...
ot: 3 months without the xperia S for the yellow screen problem...

I have this combo. Works fine for me on 4.4.4

Sure, no problem, I'll test it. Any specific app that you prefer? From my experience the GPS locks almost instantly and is quite accurate but I haven't done any specific tests.
Yeah, it looks way better than the H650E and it also has a bigger screen while being almost the same size. That was the main reason I bought it. The camera also takes great photos in daylight but night photos are terrible.
Well I have the t-mobile (US) version, and it has ups and downs.
UP:
1) The 1.5 GB of ram helps keep things snappy.
2) It actually received security updates. I'm. Only 2 months behind the Nexus phones, which is pretty good for a carrier branded phone.
3) Display is nicely bright.
4) SD card support
5) Removable battery.
6) $165.
DOWN:
1) 8 MP camera,
2) No USB OTG support
3) I've had 3 times where the phone audio didn't work at all. Had to reboot to get it back.
4) Screen size a little.large for me to type in landscape.
The only one I care about is the call audio issue...

Is this a good budget phone?

I am looking forward buying a budget Android phone. I am looking at Nokia 6.1 and maybe a Moto G6. Does this phone have any sort of frustrating issues? There seem to be a lot of people complaining that this Nokia can crash or stop working on Amazon reviews.
Nah! No issues if you don't mess with the phone like rooting, unlocking bootloader or other stuff. Moreover, Nokia guys are really helpful if you get any issues.
Hey brother. I am from India and using ta1089 (nokia 6.1 Indian varient) from last 3 months. I will simply say don't buy this phone
Its quite laggy, poor camera and wrost system stability. Ui crashes very often. Phone freezes on opening camera and except durability, there's nothing good in this device. Please reply me with anything specific u would like to know.
It looks as if you are not in the UK then it's ok. We have problems with the "regular" Android One updates here in the UK as according to the Nokia tech guys the carriers here, the government here and everybody else is to blame for the uk phones not getting the updates.
Someone has found a workaround but all the Nokia people will tell you is to be patient. The phone itself is generally ok btw
TA-1068 - this is the most flawless device i have used in 10 years of Android phones (more than 15, different makes). Most problems come from inadequate usage, no matter the phone make.
Another TA-1068 user. No problems at all. The phone has been a pleasure to use. The camera is just OK, everything else has been great.

Uhm, with the TA-1050 we had no updates and bluetooth which kept dropping out for moments. Nothing to do with "inadequate usage". If Nokia (or HMD) sort this out in the UK then this phone will be like my favourite ever phone, the Nexus 5x. And if they simplify unlocking bootloader and releasing source code will be even better
TA 1043 phone is good, but the camera is sometimes laggy.. if i had the choice again i take the Moto G6 plus
So far its been fine
Im using the 1045 US variant. Its reliable, performs well. I had the camera and launcher issues but once i changed the camera apk (Nokia 7 Plus) and launcher (nova) things are fine. If your in the UK, and have a few extra quid i think the G6 plus or the nokia 7 plus would be the way to go....

Where van i het Nokia 7 plus camera app?
This phone's one and only gimmick is the nfc, the mi a1 outperforms it and the a2 outperforms it two times.
I got the july update and after a customer support adviced "softreset" it's kinda ok (let's say).
Otherwise typical sd6xx no matter how many ram; laggy keyboard, delayed app start, low call audio quality while having full signal, and a camera software screwed up in gargantuan proportions. If you have some experience with nexus phones, stop looking for them in this model, buy a pixel, even the first pixel is better than this.
If you want to talk, whatsapp and candycrush casually, this is your phone.
