Any brave souls out there using the HTC 10 naked? - HTC 10 Questions & Answers

I have been using cases and screen protectors on my phones all my life. This time I decided that enough is enough, I'm going to use this brand new phone naked. I already dropped it and it has like 3-4 dents at 2 of the corners. I was sad for a while but this is bound to happen anyways. I considered using only a screen protector without a case, but that would make me a half-way crook and I'm too hard for that.
So, any cold-blooded thugs out there using their HTC 10 naked like me? We need to unite.

Running it naked, haven't put a case on any of my phones for past 3 years. Why buy a marvel of engineering (smartphones in general) and then cover it with a case. No scratches or anything so far, but they add character to the device.

I'm currently using mine naked while I wait for my case to show up sometime next week. I might end up deciding to just forget the case and enjoy the phone for how it is supposed to be. Having Uh Oh protection definitely offers some peace of mind, though.

great now that I opened my mouth ill probably drop my 10 in the toilet or something

If you go through devices like me (one every other month or so) a case is important to protect the device for resale. But it is certainly nice to sport around naked once in a while.

The Uh Oh protection is one of the reasons that motivated me to go naked. Does anyone know if HTC will replace phones that have scratched up screens without cracks? Or do I have to hit it with a hammer before calling them for a replacement later on if necessary.

Never use a case or screen protectors, can't stand them.

I ordered a Ice View case along with the phone. I got the phone today but the case wasn't in the box (they said it is still a pre-order item). I guess I'm running naked for a while anyway.

skinned mine with dbrand skins...
i mean yet to receive the shipment though was supposed to be dispatched on 4th may no news yet.. but this is how its going to be....

Completely naked. Why cover a beautiful smartphone?
I never use a cover on my phones.

Ohai!
The ice view case looks great and all, but it adds extra efforts in using the phone. So say in general, cases ruin the beauty of the phone altogether, regardless of what case you get.
Apart from the screen having a potential of breaking, the rest of the device is meant to last. Live life on the edge (until the phone breaks, then you can cry)

I use a slim cover, with kids my M8 has taken more than a dozen falls... still well rounded.
My 10 is already scratched the screen brushed against something edgy and I cant figure what it was.

I never used to use cases, but I have a tendancy to drop things thhese days so I do use one, but I'd rather not have to! Going to get a tight fitting skin like above I think as have rugged case that you can't see the phone through, so it looks like my old phone!

Same here, dot view cases were fun but now I a want to enjoy the new design of the 10, perhaps I will put a tempered glass but not a cover, I am very careful with my phones but you never know when someone put his stuff on your phone when it's on a table, I got a hairline scratch on my M9's screen last year because someone put his earphones on it (yes I know screen coating by HTC is not so good)

This phone is so beautiful that are huge case would just ruin the design but also you need to opt for some protection. Therefore I have purchase the Spigen thin fit.

I haven't received mine yet but I've never used a case for any phone, I've only cracked 1 screen though and that is my current phone Nokia 1520, but it cracked when I was holding it in my mouth not from dropping it D:

Around the house i do, when i leave it's covered by a flip case.

Big ass cases....why

Do some of you like carrying bricks in your pocket. Incipio feather case or no case anything else is a sin. Worse case you drop your and a little mark in the corner. I drop my phone all the time I mean almost daily and nothing. I also have a screen protector.
I like the design of this phone not love its basic. I love the galaxy nexus. If I had to use this phone with some of thick cases I wouldn't. Too bad the s3 is so ugly if they just kept this same design with just a slimmer bezel it would be a dream.
Anyway people don't be afraid to drop your phone this phone can handle alot. And worse case you can get sprint to give you another if you want to sell it.

Dropped my epic 4g once and it was destroyed. Rather deal with minimal added thickness than paying a premium for an awesome phone. Keep dropping it and let us know how that works out....I hope the best of course, no need to spend more $ than needed.
I threw my otterbox protected phone the other day to show someone how effective it was and the case didn't even have a mark, let alone the phone.

Are you saying if your next phone was 2.5 MM thicker and 4 MM wider you would absolutely HATE it? Because well thats how much space my case adds. If someone wants to throw a massive case on their phone why would you complain? I don't work or use my phone in an environment that an otterbox is terribly necessary but people do. Basic protection is pretty slim and a few drops, bounces and months later my phone is pristine.
If you don't want any bulk at all and minimal protection try skinomi techskins. I just ordered one and see how that turns out

Not trying to be an ass, but this may be the worst advice I've ever read. Why would anyone not want to protect a $500 investment? Sure, you've dropped your phone everyday with no bad omens, but I've dropped my phone twice and both times the battery and battery door exploded off of the phone and it received some scuffing. Luckily that is all that's happened, but you could crack your screen or cause other damage to your phone. And sprint will give you another? Sure, as long as you're willing to hand over some cash. Idc what phone you have or how durable it is, sacrificing some bulk to protect something this expensive is well worth it in my opinion.

Right lol I mean all I have to do is show you pictures from day 3 of having mine. Photoshop a little dust on the edge of the screen protector. The rubber case has Galaxy SII rubbed into the inside of it from the phone being pressed into it.
This is not an iPhone what are you guys doing dropping your phone from 30 feet up or moving cars. And I don't drop my phone every day but enough to know the phone is solid.
I just don't get how you turn a super slim phone into a 4 pound brick. Don't worry about me the most my phone can fall is from about 5 feet to the ground. I even drop it to show friends.
Remember means to let go I'm not throwing it at the ground like some of would think

Big & Tall Cases
Ok, so I always sport a screen protector because that is just common sense, even if we have gorilla glass because 'sand' is present everywhere and ultimately sand can and will scratch even gorilla glass. I used a case for years with my slider smart phones until I got the Touch Pro 2. I ordered one for this phone but I just got an extended battery and back that I like. So there are no cases for me now, which makes me wonder why this is so? Why don't those selling the batteries and backs, also make pregnant cases? :-/ Although I think I like it better with the fatter battery and the new cover has a kickstand, which I am excited about because I have been paying Sprint $10 a month for one even though this phjone doesn't have one. I don't really worry because I carry TEP and which is why I pay for TEP. I used to live in fear of breaking or losing the device and TEP gives me the peace of mind. I have dropped my device about 30 times in the time I have had it (day it came out) and my unit has some dings its stood up to everything I have thrown at it.
The device is pretty big already so I stayed away from the Fort Knox like case.
Ive had mine since release safe and sound in TPU case with no drops , dings or dents.
When not in use during work day etc I pocket carry keeping display scratch free.
I've had my phone since release day and it could still pass as a brand new unit. I use a screen protector and minimal hard shell case with a kickstand, it adds very little bulk while still protecting my phone. The Otterbox series (even the thinnest) just seem very thick to me, however, if I'm engaging in any activity that puts me outside a lot on pavement or on hard packed earth (like hiking) I would use a thicker more padded case to keep my phone safe just not as an every day case.
This thread is going nowhere....
Cheap light and sexy on the phone. I got mine matted, but they all are good. http://www.amazon.com/Cimo-Gloss-Sa...=A2X1DSC0SAJ94E&ie=UTF8&qid=1336871759&sr=1-6

Whose using their phone without a case?

Just wondering. After using my iphone 4 for about a year with an iphone bumper I eventually took it off. Along with the screen protector. When I bought the one X I decided not to purchase a case. Although the phone can feel slippery at times, I just make sure to pinch both sides of the phone. (thumb on the screen, middle finger on the back of the phone) when reaching into my pocket to pull it out. Anyone else not using a case that might of regretted it?

I have a case but I only use it when I go mountain biking. I think cases are FUGLY, particularly on the sexy One X. As for screen protectors, if you can apply it flawlessly its okay. However, its next to impossible to apply it flawlessly, so I never use them either.
Got my one x for three weeks now, no scratches and such. The reason could be that im still using my DHD a lot. thinking bout to get full body screenprotector.
Mostly I don't bother with a case, but now and then I use the htc v701 case
you can see this thread i made = http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1681427
TBH, if I worked in an office or a clean indoors enviroment then I probably wouldnt use a case, the handset would just slip into a shirt/trouser (pants for the americans here) pocket.
I work outside a lot though, often have dirty hands and sites I work on have hardcore all around… drop my phone on that, then its screwed.
Dont use a SP though, hate them, spoils the lovely feel of the glass.
To be honest though, I dont tend to have phones for more than 6 months, so like to keep them as nice as possible if I decide to sell them on ebay.
Steve
Hi
I've been using my phone without case or protection... But since I accidentally dropped it and the back got some scratches, I feel like there should be a case back there, you know, just in case
Also screen protector is not necessary since it has Gorilla Glass, but I saw a topic here about people getting scratches on the screen, so if you're comfortable with them, that wouldn't hurt either

I wouldn't be so crazy about gorilla glass, sure it's rugged but I got a few scratches when I had my dell venue pro (best phone ever, if only it ran android)
I use to be real careful with phones, treating them like little babies lol but overtime you just get use to your phone then your not so delicate with it. Although I probably should throw a case on mine since I work as a mechanic, another reason why I didn't get the white one lol

I did too until my last phone caught an STD. (Sudden Tarmac Destruction)
Joking aside, I found that the HOX was a lot harder to operate one handed in comparison to my Sensation and came close to dropping it a few times.
For the last couple of days I've been using this and I'm finding the phone a lot more secure in my hand and easier to operate one-handed. It adds very little bulk to the phone and I'm delighted with it.
I just need to find a car mount now that will fit with the cover on as it's a bit fiddly to remove the cover.

I have ordered an HTC One X, just waiting for it to get in stock. I don't think I'll be using it with a case. I never did with my O2x. I handle my phones with care. Partly due my appreciation of having the privilege to afford such devices, but also because it ups the re-sale value. I'll probably get a screen protector though.
The phone looks so damn good without the case but as it's a wee bit too large to fit in pockets when you're sitting down I decided to put a case on it. Tried two cases, metal skin and aprolink, settled with this one:
http://creativemylife.com/htc-one-x-aprolink-designed-case-ceramic-red.html
Screen protectors, I simply hate the cheap ones you get off ebay and the like, you always get bubbles, so I bought a good one and for the first time I was able to find a screen protector that's bubble free:

Do you over protect?

I just realized today I use a screen protector and a case to protect a phone even though I baby my phone. I also realized my sp gets easily scratched and looks like ****. And the case adds bulk and isn't as nice as the phone. Hmmm. I guess the case protects from shock that's how I'll rationalize it. Do you over protect? How do you rationalize it?

I have a Zagg screen protector and the Androdified CruzerLite TPU case on my phone, and I think it's just fine. I baby every phone I own, so I don't usually go for the full protection on my phones. But this is the best phone I've ever owned by far and it's the most I've spent on a phone, so I gotta protect this phone well.

Having a good case and screen protector isn't really overprotecting your phone.. It doesn't matter how careful you are or how much you may baby your phone, accidents happen and not everyone can afford to replace their phone when it gets dropped and broken.
I use only a case. The oleophobic coating is just too hard to resist. Screen protectors ruin the experience.

I've used an otterbox defender (built in screen protector) since I got the phone. Recently bought and applied a Zagg protector on a whim thinking maybe I'll carry it around without the case and this will help with that.
Now I'm thinking that may have been a mistake since when it comes down to it, I picture myself dropping it, or standing up while it's in my lap (did that with my old phone all the time getting out of cars), and cracking the screen or something else fatally expensive. The phone is nice and sleek on its own but honestly I don't think of it as being clunky or anything in the case. I've got these big hands, might as well use them.
The zagg and the otterbox's screen protector are definitely excessive together though. And they stick together from time to time. Could pop off the otterbox's, but then gunk might accumulate inside the case as it won't be sealed... could take off the Zagg, but then I have to confront the buyer's remorse.
no screen cover/protector or case. but i treat it with care, my pocket or holding it with care. it's been 6 months still no scratch.
Can't find a case so i ran it with only a matt screen protector..
So far dropped 3 times after owning it for 1 month, had a few small scratches though, not noticeable unless you go hunt for it.
several cases but my phone still has a full body skin from bestskinsever. i'm just careful in putting the case in and taking it out so that the skin won't get messed up. also have a pouch when i only bring the phone with the skin on. all my gadgets are like that. i guess, yes, i over protect but then again, i like to baby my phone. no issues since new in feb and hopefully none in the future.
I bought Xoskins screen protectors because people were saying there was no orange peel like Zagg...
My experience is if you look at the screen at an angle in a well lit room or outside you can still see that "pebbly" orange peel effect.
Would like to try something else, but don't care to throw the money at it.
No. I have faith in my devices build quality. It has yet to fail me.

Always a case; I'm just not that coordinated to ensure I won't drop it. I try to keep a clear TPU on mine so I can appreciate the metal finish. (And I just cannot possibly comprehend the attraction of someone "skinning" a unibody metal object to "look" like it's wood.)
I have had the Iceview case on my test unit (because that's how they wanted us to test it), but I put a Fosmon clear TPU on my own device. I might every once in a while slip it into an Iceview: (1) when the price comes down and; (2) if they ever come up with a clear-backed Iceview like the Dotview Ice case for the M9.
Naked. The 10 is too nice to wrap in plastic.
Naked. I will point out though, be very careful of having the phone up against your shoulder as the finish will not give you any grip. I've already nearly dropped it twice and it's a problem I didn't have on my m8.
naked... I never use a case or screen protector. Only once out of 10 or so smart phones has this decision bit me.

I have being using HTC phones for the last 6 years changing it every year. When I got the HTC One M7, I asked my self "what is the point to have such a beautiful phone to hide it inside of an ugly case?.
I did not wanted it to be damaged (Flagship phones are not cheap), therefore I started looking for some alternatives, I tried different products, some of them make the phone opaque make the phone to look completely different, some did not last and peel off easily, others, did not work with globes, and so on. Finally I found the " Invisible Shield" from Zaggs and so far I am really satisfied with the product.
It is film that self stick to the phone and it is completely transparent, it is like a gel with memory so it will absorb the impact in case of a phone drop and it covers the full body, therefore you can still enjoy the beauty of the phone with some sort of protection. On top of that it gives the phone an extra grip since the metal bodies are kind of slippery. The only bad thing is that you will probably have to change it twice a year since it peels off a little on the corners of the phone, probably because of the round corners of all the HTC devices.
Last year when i got my HTC One M9, I only installed the Invisible shield on the back of the phone and I had nothing to protect the screen. As of today my screen is still scratch free. Probably because of the Gorilla Glass.
I got my new HTC 10 today, unfortunately Zagg does not have the invisible shield for it yet, so I guess i will take my chances and use it naked until the invisible shield for it becomes available.

Your knowledge on the subject is scary.

Haven't had a case on my phone for years, I'm sure I'll regret it one day but I haven't yet.

I know. I was joking too.
I wouldn't mind going naked on this phone. I just hate the fact that when you set it down it lays directly on the camera lens glass.

Outside of pretty, i believe HTC Ones are struddy enough to be able to handle a few drops, or in-pocket stratches. as long as you can live with lil marks here and there, "go naked"!
I got the Spigen thin case to start with. It has a grippy feel to it, so that helps. I tried going naked w/ my current chrome Xperia Z5 premium for a few days (w/ the glass protectors on both side), but it was too slippery and I was afraid I'd drop it. Plus someone mentioned how the 10's camera lens sticks out - I wouldn't want to lay it face down on it either. I've had phone camera lenses scratched before.

To case or not to case, my age old dilema.

I have this dilemma every single time I get a new phone. I can't decide if I need a case of not. I have the Spigen Rugged Armour case which is pretty good but ruins the feel of the phone. This isn't the cases fault...all cases do this IMO. It makes the phone feel so much thicker and makes the bezzles even worse. I'm usually pretty safe with my phones...having only broken one screen in my life with owning many devices...that was the Note 7 display. This time when I got my Pixel XL I got insurance through my carrier that replaces the device if it's damaged from drop, water or theft minus my $200 deductable. I'm looking for opinions on case or no case. I can never decide. Thank.
The back easily gets dented. Unfortunately, I speak from experience. All I did was lean on a table .. barely. It has a ding now. I'd suggest a case. Just an opinion though.

I have the Spigen Liquid Crystal case and I love it. Doesn't ruin the feel or look of the phone at all IMO. I posted some pics over in another thread.

The back scratches and is most noticeable on black and blue models. Leaves silver swirls lines... YMMV
Also I'll attach some pictures of a pixel recently sold on swappa that might convince you. It was supposedly dropped by vzw rep while installing an otterbox case

Oh man that one big dash would drive me nuts lol ...... man lot of marks must have hit tile
Those chamfered edges always get like that. It's not a pixel exclusive issue. Have them on my 6P as well.
I recommend the Spigen Ultra Hybrid case. I have the clear one and it is classy. The case is adequate without being intrusive with a premium feel and premium branding. Better yet. If you pick it up off of their Amazon store. You can get it for over 50% off. No. I am not an Amazon or Spigen employee...just a very content longstanding customer
I'm very picky with my devices. Never drop them. Never case them. I always use a skin on back and tempered glass on front.

I am in the same boat with my phones that offer good insurance deals. I have both the iPhone 7+ and now the Pixel XL and have them in temporary cases until the skins arrive. I had my iPhone 6+ and 6P both skinned and insured, didn't have to submit a claim on either. They both had a few dings here or there but a new skin always covered that and kept the phone so close it's original shape. I also find they hide the metal pad nicely for my magnetic car mounts. I will send pics and updates when my skins arrive, so far only ordered them through slickwraps, I'm sure I'll order some off d-brand around black friday.
I'm not sure on the insurance value for Pixel XL yet because of the low repair costs I've seen, for the iPhone it's a no brainer because it covers the earpods and lightning cables.
