HTC 10 Unlocked Ver - System UI Tuner not working?S - HTC 10 Questions & Answers

I have 2 other devices running Marshmallow so I know I'm not doing this wrong. I am not able to get the System UI Tuner to enable by holding down on the settings icon in the Quick Settings tray. I read up on this and it appears this may be related to having animations disabled. Unfortunately, this is not the case for me. I've toggled Dev Options and toggled animations before and after rebooting and the icon still does not spin.
Anyone else having this problem? Thanks.

This feature is disabled by HTC

Thank you for confirming that. This is seriously upsetting. I appreciate that they wanted to strip down Sense UI but it seems like they are taking away so many bare features. It really bothers the crap out of me.

That's true. It's same to other ROMs.

No help. Even with no lock, still lock screen wallpaper showed up. That's the reason why OP is saying two lockscreens.
Generally, any good application could replace the system UI without any side effects or problem. But something like lockscreen apps are not replacing the default stock lockscreen functions usually. I believe it's because it's so critical function on the phone and by replacing the core functions, it could bring the big trouble to the app developer.
One more issue is, compatibility issue once the stock rom is upgraded or modified. That's the reason why custom lockscreen developers are not touching system UI or app. I've seen lots of modified system apps are not running properly from the next or changed version. For many apps, by uninstalling and reinstalling it solve the problem. But for lockscreen app, if it's not working after any change, it means, 'now I have soft bricked phone'.

Crazy, didn't know that, thanks for the info! I guess it makes sense that you're messing with some pretty deep system stuff when you're tweaking the equivalent of an OS logon screen.
Haha, damn thanks for the wise words. I didnt know that either!
The only way I've found to fix this was by running a TSM mod and toggling the lockscreen toggle. But that's a temporary fix as the stock lockscreen eventually pops up(at random).
Disabling from the security menu only works in ICS, not GB. Another perk about ICS.

[Q] Volume toggle on lockscreen

Hi all,
I have a HTC Desire Z running Audacity Beta 4 (+++)
As far as I can tell, there's no way of configuring a volume toggle in the lockscreen unlike previous ROMs which had this by default. I've seen posts in the Audacity development thread (pages 409-) describing how to add the camera to the lockscreen, however I want to reverse this and re-enable a mute/sound toggle on the lockscreen. I've been into the system->settings->lockscreen but that offers no volume toggle options under apps or activities.
I'm currently working around this by using "Mute" but this seems to be an ugly fix to what seems to be a missing system option.
Does anyone have any better solution or ideas?
Thanks in advance

Well, since you can't disable access to the notification bar, you can use the toggle there.
I just looked into this myself and you're right. I did find a workaround though. If you have Tasker you can make a task that switches toggle states and then bind that task to a lockscreen slot with Task Cut (selectable on the first page).
Granted that won't update your icon, but it's something.
As mentioned above though, you can also toggle it from the power widget in the notification drawer.

Thanks for the responses. As Tasker isn't free I'll stick with the "Mute" app and add that to the lockscreen for now.
The whole point of this was so that I don't have to unlock on the way in/out of appointments etc... I can just wake the screen and swipe left to mute/unmute the phone. Granted it's not a huge amount of effort to unlock and use the power widget in the notifications screen, but it is an extra step and we're all about efficiency (or idleness!)
It just seems odd to me that this should be something that's inbuilt on the lockscreen, but I guess the developers take a different view nowadays. (It would be nice to have options for both camera and mute in the lockscreen options)
I'd like to have a go at creating an app to do this for myself.
Can anyone recommend any threads on how to start development - I'm reasonably ok with programming though I'll freely admit that java's object orientation will be a bit of a learning curve. I'm hoping that this will be a relatively simple task - All I want to do is to mute/unmute from the lockscreen without changing anything else...
I've found these bits of code to play with:
http://stackoverflow.com/a/7318028
http://stackoverflow.com/a/10921268
but where do I start in trying to create an app around this and packaging it? adb? Can anyone point me in the right direction? I'm looking for an "android how to write apps" or something like that...
Thanks in advance
[edit] - found the android developers pages now and am starting "my first app" - If anyone has any hints and tips though, they'd still be appreciated. Thanks

[SOLVED] System UI Tuner doesn't show up in Android M

Just flashed Android M final version from factory image, try the method (long tap on Settings gear) for System UI Tuner, but nothing happens...
Any idea?
It took me several tries to get it to work. I finally went to settings to see if I missed the message, but I didn't. Once I did it once from the settings screen it worked.

Probably the animation is disabled in developer option. Enable it and reboot.

Yes, i disabled the animation...i hope that's the reason...i am not have the tab with me right now, so can't try immediately.
Thanks!
Google is hiding everything from users as usual.
System UI tuner is nowhere to be found on Nexus 7 by default even under developer options. It just doesnt exist!
In order to enable System UI tuner on your Nexus 7 in the first place you have to long tap settings icon and then you get message "congratulations, system UI tuner has been enabled"
Enjoy!
BTW, there is no vertical app drawer by default on Nexus 7 either! You have to download "Google Now Launcher" app from Google Play/ Carefully read notifications once you open this app, it is asking if you want to transfer all icons on your current homescreen to new one or start from scratch

the animation was the trick...or the bug?
Anyway, it's working now.
I am unable to get this to activate. I went under develop options to check the animation settings. All I see is: window animation scale, transition animation scale, and animator duration scale. All 3 are at 1x. Any thoughts?
im using a note 3 running resurrection remix android 6.0.1 and i am also unable to enable system ui tuner. Developer options is turned on, animations are turned on as well, but the gear will not spin and i cannot get the toast message no matter how many times i try to press and hold the button. Please help.
my t-mobile galaxy note 5 just updated to Marshmallow, and i am not able to enable the system ui tuner. any help ?

let me know if you get any answers.
I have the same problem. Doesn't work.
With Cyanogenmod 12.1 (latest smapshot) my problem is the same. The cog keeps spinning around and stops when I don't touch it anymore. Is it possible to edit some config file to activate the System UI Tuner? Or isn't there any Sytem UI Tuner in the Cyanogenmod releases at all?
Heinz
^It does the same in CM13 on my i777. I'm pretty sure it doesn't do anything because those settings are already available in CM.
sorry, wrong phone
How is this SOLVED? I am having the same problem on a non rooted Samsung galaxy s5. And this did not explain why it is not working or how to get to the system ui tuner. I've tried everything, but the gear doesn't spin at all. And in all the pics I've seen, none of them have hardware buttons like the galaxies do, they've always been the buttons on the screen, the back button, the home button, and the menu button.
I am using asus zenphone 2 laser 5.5.....
I can't enable the system ui tunner...
I tried all the way what are clearly shown above.
Any one help me

Touchwiz removed the settings with one of its updates. There is no current access to the System UI.
Recommend removing the SOLVED part of the title, so as to not confuse anyone searching for solutions.

I've tried all the options mention in this thread. But cudnt get into the system ui. Is it device specific or all marshmallow devices are supported? Please help me in a more detailed method if possible. I'm using Symphony i10 mtk6580 android 6.0 device.

Developer Mode/Systems UI Tuner?

I need assistance with two things.
First, is there a way to remove the "Developer Mode" option from the settings menu without doing a factory reset?
Second, does anyone know how to turn on the System UI Tuner on a Verizon Note 7? I tried pulling down the notification shade and holding the gear button, but it does not work for me.
Thanks.
Monique
I don't believe there's a way to remove developer mode without doing a reset. I've never seen a device that lets you do so without a reset.
System UI Tuner is a feature only in stock Android (Nexus devices, Motorola, etc). Devices using a skin like Touchwiz, Sense, etc don't have that feature.

Thanks. So there is no way to update the notifications bar across the top of the home screen?

[DISCUSSION] July update screen rotation animation bug

I have confirmed from many others that the new July brings up some improvements but also an annoying bug that glitches the animation when you rotate the screen from landscape to portrait.
Now I'm curious if we can do anything to fix this diy or we need to wait for Xiaomi to fix this ... next month.
What I tried until now:
-Enable developer option and mess with animations speed - no improvement, animations go slower, faster but the black screen glitch still remains
-Messed up with 3d and hardware acceleration in developer options - no improvement
-Narrowed down the glitch to the launcher since while outside the launcher the animation continues after a black screen appears and while in launcher the wallpaper blinks with no black screen.
-Tried installing aftermarket launcher and disabling the stock launcher ... but the stock launcher cannot be stopped and disabled
-After a 2nd launcher the bug still persist
-Reset the stock launcher and wipe cache and data - no improvement
-Reset System UI - no improvement
What else is there? How can we fix this OCD inducing glitch?
Hi,
I understand that this bug can be very annoying for those who often watch videos or use landscape mode apps.
But honestly I doubt there could be an easy fix (without root and customizing program)
So I'm afraid we will have to live with it at least until next update...

I think there COULD be a solution, not sure tho. I am just curious what could cause the glitch, what process, or what app.
Maybe there could be someone knowing how the inner works of the system work, or what exactly did the OTA modified. Maybe the bug could be fixed by a simple data deletion. I don't know...
Hello.
I don't like animations, so I disabled it all. Maybe this will be usefull for you, at least as alternative solution until an update solve the problem.
Go to Settings -> Acessibility -> Turn off animations
Maybe the names are different for you, but I hope you can find it.

Even with animation off, the screen still blinks black when rotating from landscape to portrait. That's the bug, not the animation.
worst update ever [emoji35][emoji35]

Maybe the result was unexpected. You know why I posted this? I was hoping that someone installed a fresh copy of the full ROM on a blank device and... the problem is not there. The update maybe conflicting with something in the already configured system. Idk...
