fingerprint scanner wobbling - HTC 10 Questions & Answers

I've noticed a small wobble when sliding my finger left to right over my fingerprint scanner. Sometimes it makes a small click notice.
Is this normal? Are other HTC 10 owners noticing this?
Thanks!

Not seeing that here on my US unlocked version.

If you googled the teardown of the htc10 you would see that what you think is happening is impossible.

Yeah I have it to. It's not too bad. Mine isn't really a wobble so much as it has a slight give to it on the left and right. It's not something I really notice, or something that bothers me though. It's something I can notice if I try but rarely notice otherwise.

What you describe is what I noticed. Seems to be normal thing then.
It's already my second HTC 10, first one was send back to the online store because of a faulty wifi module, so I was investigating the device from up close and noticing something that isn't something broken.

OMG.
Can we get some community action on this issue? I don't know how the OP will sleep tonight. Maybe his fingertips have wobble syndrome. It's concerning for all of us.
It's a real problem in his lifetime. He is after all noticing things that aren't broken (his words not mine).

Someone is cranky today.

Hi guys! I have the same probelm and it is very annoying .. I´m thinking of returning the phone, don´t know, why this is happening! I´t always making a clicky noise. On the right side it is solid as it should be, but on the right side, i can see the fingerprint scanner moving inside the device when I press it.

How did you know you have a faulty wifi module? My wifi is not so good as on my M8 so I am wondering if I have the same problem.. :/

I have been noticing this recently. What is happening is that when you touch the lower part of the screen, this pushes the fingerprint scanner up. You can feel it move up if you hold down on the scanner when pushing down on the screen. When you then touch the scanner, the clicking sound it it is making is that you are moving the scanner back down. Guess it is just a manufacturing issue we have to live with.

Screen gap

I read about screem gap but i was unsure what exactly was meant. I just took a closer look and found out that there is a tiny gap between my screen and phone on top in which dirt fills in and it pisses me off. I havent dropped my screen once and if i push the top left part of my phone i can hear a sort of "click".does that make my phone faulty? Im really annoyed vy the dirt that fills in... Apart from rhat phone has no problems.

send it back. that is what i am doing. left hand side of the phone between the screen and the plastic you can see dust getting inside there to. plus if you press the left hand side tad hard you can hear it creaking as well. i called HTC to see if they could replace it for me straight away without sending it for repairs..waiting for an outcome tomorrow...if they say no i will just send it for repairs and hope they find the problem and either fix it or replace it then...i know it will drag for a week but at least that way you know one way or the other it will get fixed...
i was going to say if it does not bug you then leave it..but you sound just like me that even though the phone works fine it will bug you cause you know it is there
should i go to my provider or directly cpntact htc? And just to understand it better. Gaps are not supposed to be there, am i right?

Dont replace it as you have no other problems. Go to HTC repair center and just fix it. If you replace there may be a chance of getting more faultier one.

It amazes me some of the reasons people will find to return an otherwise perfect handset. Considering the amount of serious problems floating about this phone, I don't think a creak or 1mm gap between the bezel and screen constitutes a return. Get over it and enjoy the phone.

Ive heard that the one x was made in 2 different countrys taiwan and china... china being the worst built ones buttt I must have a really faulty dhd. I've had it for 10 months now and my screen moves, doesn't fit right on the phone as there should be a lip round it but isn't my speaker isn't straight so is sloping. Looks like the cnc machine hasn't cut it right. Power button is really recessed too far in..... I think a little sqweek is nothing to really worry about if the screen falls out then ya I'd send it back.

well that is what worries me about the whole damn thing..if it gets to hot to soon and in two months down the line the screen actually does fall out
TBH ive just checked mine and it does have a slight gap with lint building up already (bare in mind ive had this phone 2 days) Also have the yellow blotch on the screen AND a dead pixel. This is by far the best phone ive ever owned...But my word these little niggles are grating on my moobs! Ive never had to send a phone off to a repair centre before but im not really willing to put up with the problems the phone has (however ridiculously small they seem to some ) You expect some software issues in an early batch, but dead pixels, discoloured screens, gaps occuring out of nowhere between the screen, its a bit much really! Im gunna have to get it sent off soon i think, gutted!

Do you even realize how big 1mm is?!!!! Get a ruler and see please....
I doubt even a blind person could enjoy a phone with a gap big as that. You would not just see this, but also feel.
I have a gap that's about 0,1-2 mm big (measuring with paper, which is about that in average I think 0,1 till 0,3 I think but also not sure) and its around the whole screen on both sides of the ring.
Ugh...1mm...
But seriously guys, how big are the gaps it makes you return it?
I mean should I return it with 0,1 mm ? (maybe less) seen a bigger gap on SGS 2.

[Q] Does your device creak?

I got my note 4 days ago. At first everything was ok, but yesterday I noticed my device is terribly creaking. Almost every time I touch the back it sounds like the plastic would break a little bit (Although I don't think it would actually break).
Do you have the same issues? Or should I sent it back and get a new one, since it's really annoying me...?

Mine creaks a little in the bottom right corner. Everything else is fine. I think it's the plastic back giving a bit. I had this on the Nexus 10 as well.
Creaking is for Hollween not for my Tablet!

Yes, When I held the tablet with my left hand to touch the screen with my right it creaked like a rock band with bad music! Geeish.....the silver chrome or whatever the material is wasn't tight and it just bend. I returned it right away. I really didn't want to return it. However, I paid full price and not second hand money so I expect the performance to be right, that means no noise. When listening to music or watching a movie it seems as if someone was moving around and that can be pretty annoying. I tried holding it different ways with no change. So back it went. Let Samsung sell. This I know imagine you trying to sell it to the next person, what do you think they might say and how much will the value go down?

Yes, As soon as I opened the package, I noticed the bottom right hand corner was creaking an popping. It is not like I was looking for it. That made me investigate if the rest of the trim was doing the same. If you put your mind into into it, you can get some creaking from other ends of the trim but nothing like the bottom right hand corner. Every time I pick it up, it is annoying me so much that I feel I should take it back. I am not sure the guys at PCWorld would accept this as a reason for full money back or replacement claim. I do like the tablet, but do not want a noisy plastic in my hands.
Is this enough of a reason to ask for a replacement?

Sadly I dont think it is (pure guess so dont take my word for it) BUT I can 100% say that your Tablet will have a little bit of lightbleed along the bottom and sides....this alone is a good enough reason for them to accept and exchange - Good luck.

Put screen britghness to 100% and open this http://www.net-tracker.net/android/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/black_bg_1024x768.png, make sure it covers the entire screen inc notifications part and then switch off your lights in your room and you will then see light bleed, Its nothing major and common on LCD'S but it is a valid reason for a return/exchange.
I had lightbleeding on my first note but I found it to be acceptable however on my 2nd tablet I found the bleeding to be excessive and off putting so I got a refund from John Lewis,
Anyways this thread should give you an idea too - best of luck :good: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2554094

If your one is not creaking then this definitely should be a rightful exchange claim for all those unfortunate to pick up badly put together tablets.
I am even considering getting my money back and going the Apple way. Excellent build quality, and I know that because I got some for the kids.
yeah maybe idk. Sammy is also known for build issues lately so you have to really inspect before you take home. The Note 3 home button is all wonky and wobbly on a lot of units.

Sorry for the question, but what is "idk" in your post?
Having a creaking case, would that get worse in terms of speading all around the tablet's trim?
Any experiences but no guesses please!

"IDK" means "I Dont Know".
I guess if the creaking was coming from say a loose glass to the digitizer i think it could be something that spreads. Since if the glass isn't glued down well enough i could see slight dust getting in there and causing more separation over time. I doubt this is the case as you'd see bubbling at the edges if that was happening.

Screen clicking when pushed

Just received my replacement tablet and it has the same problem. When holding in landscape mode (power button on top left), you can hear a click on the lower left potion of the screen. Anyone else have this problem?
You mean when you push on the screen harder than you're supposed to?

Yes, i was applying a screen protector i had lying around and as i was pushing air bubbles out i could feel and hear a loud click. I let google know and they sent me a new one which has the same problem, just not as pronounced.
I have the same exact problem. I have never pushed 'hard' on my screen. I have a replacement coming, also. I'll post a follow up.
Edit: To elaborate on how much force it took to generate this issue. I picked it up with my left hand in landscape mode and I heard it. That small amount of pressure.
Honestly I don't understand why this amounts to getting a replacement?
It's just a click, does it make the device unusable? No.

You seem quite the negative Nancy, here. Telling people that they're pushing too hard, then telling questioning getting an issue resolved. Is it unheard of that someone get device without any issues, even IF it's cosmetic. Never mind that it might be something that could cause issues later when not within warranty. In my case, I contacted support, simply to determine if it was normal/expected. They processed my RMA immediately, I hadn't even gotten to asking for one. Chill out.

Because there screen is physically popping in and out. No need to be a strong fanboy but even my moto e is built better and i would expect a jesus device called pixel will have higher quality specs. I received my replacement and its still present though not as strong. I believe this is a manufacturing issue and others will soon notice.

People here are invested in the device, not only financially but emotionally, as this person clearly is. Saying something is defective with the device is like saying something is defective with them. In this case, both points may be correct.

I think I've just fed a troll. iPhone.
Same problem, but google seem a bit clingy to send me a replacement, I am in UK. I've heard UK support is pretty bad compared to US.
I have the same problem. I also noticed that the gap between the metal edges and the glass is wide in certain spots, and I can see right down the gap. When I push down on the screen, I can see a little bit of discoloration occur due to pressure from behind the screen. The discoloring is on the lower left side of the screen (when tablet is held sideways). I'm afraid it's bumping into a component or something.
My screen makes a clicking noise when pushing it on the left half. I really dont mind this issue.
No discoloration of the screen btw.

Maybe it's an strange question. Did you try smelling near the tablet when you did this? I try it and a strong smell like glue or some cleaning product comes out from the tablet. Hopefully I'm not crazy and is not hazardous. Please try it. Thanks!!

I just recieved my Pixel C today and I've got quite a large amount of creaking, clicking and sticking sounds in the bottom left hand quadrant of the device when held in landscape mode and it heads towards the middle of the screen.
There seems to be quite a bit of room between the screen and the rest of the device even when pressing lightly on the screen. It's almost like the screen isn't adhered properly somewhere and there's a gap causing the screen to creak and pop.
The screen also goes weird like its pressing on a component in this bottom left hand corner.
None of the other parts of the screen exhibit this behaviour.
I requested a call back from google and the rep acknowledged the issue and said it was normal and pointed me to a YouTube video with a slight popping sound which sounded very minor compared to mine.
The YouTube video I was directed to was this one https://youtu.be/k7aH00QRq5A
I was surprised I had to push to get a replacement and it was only when I made the creaking and popping sounds over the phone the rep knew my device had a real problem.
Coming from a Nexus 7 2013 I expected much more than this with the Pixel C.
Anyway I've now got to go through the whole rma process and organise a courier to pick up the defective Pixel C.
I have to say that I'll be returning the replacement Pixel C if it exhibits the same problem which is a real shame as I was quite excited about this device.
I fixed it by repeatedly clicking like 30 times. It finally got stuck. Lol
Maybe it has something to do with the glue used.
As Hazzo31 mentions above I too smelt a chemical citrus type smell coming from the Pixel when I received it.
Anyway my RMA is in progress so we'll see how the next one goes.
Same clicking issue for me.
French support arguing that it is normal, not a problem, the tablet is working fine, no exchange possible.
I'm returning the tablet and i'll have to wait for 10 days to get the refund...
I find it unbelievable :
This is the most expensive android tablet. An high-end flag-ship device, designed & built & sold by Google.
Yes, the device is usable, but how can I be sure that the screen or the touch panel will not break in 13 months?

Scrolling registeres as a click? anyone else has this issue? driving me nuts.

This is soooo annoying, and i wonder if my device is defective or it's a widespread issue.
Happens to me occasionally although I have very rough hands from work so I kind of attribute it to that. Maybe there is more to it?

I have a feeling it's an issue.... Shouldn't do it.
I'm having the same issue, I just sent my issues in to Huawei US and requested a replacement under warranty. I get swipes read as touches even with the touch sensitivity moved from light to med and I get unregistered touches, particularly in the button bar on the bottom of the screen. sometimes it takes up to 4 touches to register. Rebooting seems to help but having to reboot several time a day is not a fix but an issue which to me is a defect.

Let me know if the replacement makes a difference.
I had the same issue once, and sent it back for warranty service once. They've since sent it back and it's acting up again. In my case the odd behavior turned out to be phantom touches. Check if this is happening with your phone via Developer Options>Input>Show taps.
Initially when touching the bottom of the screen, nav bar, I would get phantom touches in other places on my screen. Going against my personal preferences, I ended up doing a factory reset to see if it would help, and it didn't. At this point my phone was out of the case, as I removed it for troubleshooting reasons, as well as no screen protector. I played with it at home for a few days while waiting for my return label to be shipped to me. By the time it arrived, I was startig to get red flashes on the screen border while scrolling. Now, with my situation, I had the phone in this style case. The reason I mention this is that it started to do the same thing after receiving it back, and now that I've switched to a different style case, it's helped.... I think. Time will tell, but if any of you are using the 3-in-1 case style that actually covers the front bezels (particularly WITH a tempered glass screen protector) you might consider trying a different case.
Hope this helps someone.

Screen unlocking during calls

I got my View 20 recently and I'm having a problem with screen unlocking during calls. The speaker is roughly at a 45 degree angle and I think so is the proximity sensor. And it only recognizes objects that are very very close to it. In other words unless I have the phone pressed against my ear (not touching or close to, actually pressed against it) it unlocks the screen during call, the notification panel opens up and I activate things I don't wanna activate... Once just as a test I made a short phone call and I made sure to keep the top of the phone pressed against my ear at all times and somehow it still unlocked the screen and the notification panel was open...
To make things even worse, because the angle is so weird I have to keep the phone lower than I'm used to (or comfortable with) and the bottom of the phone is way below my mouth which is bad too.
It's a real issue and I don't know what I can do to fix it. Please help me.
(And just as a side note I can't believe no one has mentioned this in ANY review - even if the screen doesn't unlock for them, the angle of the speaker is still weird and to hear the sound well you have to hold the phone lower than normally. It IS significant and I have no idea why this hasn't come up in any review or opinion on the internet).

Do you have any case on the phone? Sometimes the case may interfere with ur proximity sensor and cause these issues.
Nope, none.
I have the same problem. But without solution yet.
Disable Google smart unlock feature. And check.
It was never enabled.

Sure, just tell me which screen you want.
Do you have any glass screen protector? I have one and notice that is no cutout for the proximity sensor!

The phone came with a preinstalled one but I removed it. No cases, no glasses, just a vanilla phone.

Any other ideas?
Or maybe I just a defective phone? Could other owners of View 20 say if their phones are fine?
It's not a fault... The sensor is on the top of the device instead of the front/screen so it happens... Poor design choice that's all.
Same problem noticed since day 1, found also no solution yet.
very disappointing.

Yeah, except it's not pointed upwards, it's pointed at a roughly 45 degree angle, so it should still work more or less fine. Maybe less fine than forward-facing sensor but still ok. And I doubt that thousands (millions?) of people who bought that phone experience the same problems and no one has mentioned it yet.
I'm on the second view 20... Sent first one back as I didn't like the warmish tint on the screen... Second one has a much cooler tone... Both do this with calls and my brother also has a view 20 and he has the same issue... Mine was from Amazon and he got his from carphone warehouse.
