What are the chances of eventually being able to use Android Pay on custom ROM? - HTC 10 Questions & Answers

Losing Android Pay is really the only thing keeping me on the stock ROM. Is this something that devs are even looking into or has everyone just resigned themselves to not using it if you want a custom ROM?

Easy enough to achieve, depends on how the developer implements root in their ROM.

I am on LeeDroids ROM and Android pay works.

I don't believe you.

I checked the LeeDroid thread and multiple people have reported it working. I'd just be paranoid with every AP update that it will no longer work.

Speaking off android pay, can you hide the annoying NFC icon from statusbar without root? I use my mobile banking app a lot and my bank app won't work with rooted phones (found that out on my M8). I am aware that I need the NFC on for Android Pay to work but I wish it could just turn itself on when needed

No, unfortunately you're stuck with the icon without root.

Android Pay also works on Badboyz Sprint ROM. I used it yesterday at Walgreens.....

I have been making payments for a week now. Can add delete cards
Give it a try

Great news! Thanks guys!

Hi. Noob, kinda, here...
I'm on LeeDrOid r110, systemless xposed and SuperSu, but have yet to get Android Pay to work. I've even tried disabling Xposed and SuperSu, which only crashes as I try to add a credit card, specifically, once I press the "+" icon, my screen goes black, then it crashes and I get the Android Pay white loading screen. How do you have it set up?
Oh, I'm on 1.80.xxxx, S-Off...

Xposed breaks android pay as it modifies the system. How are you "disabling" it? Did you flash the removal .zip in recovery? If not I would try that first and see if you can get Android Pay working. If you have done that and android pay is still not working I would flash the appropriate RUU to get back to stock, unrooted, then go through the steps to root (systemless) and flash your rom, but do not install xposed. It SHOULD work after that.

Hi Bladerunner.
Thanks for replying. Didn't realize how old this thread was until after posting.
I'm using the Systemless Xposed v85.7 from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/unofficial-systemless-xposed-t3388268
There's a "Disable Xposed" toggle, I guess similar to SuperSu also has a toggle. I want Xposed more than I want Android Pay. Maybe these people that are Unlocked, Rooted, S-Off, and running LeeDrOid don't have Xposed install and that's why their Android Pay is working.
Anyway, I'm just a bit OCD or unrealistic in thinking I can have it all.
And I would "Thank" you, but reached my quota today. Will make up tomorrow.
Cheers...

Android Pay works without issue on a systemless rooted stock ROM even... Just don't modify system and you're good. For now anyway.

Hi schmeggy.
Any chance you don't have Xposed installed? I don't see it listed in your signature. I think that's the true culprit. Beside being on different ROM, I'm on LeeDrOid which is systemless, Xposed is the only difference with your setup.

Thank you for your feedback.
I've tried to maintain systemless, but still no joy. There are posts that state Android Pay works for them and my HTC 10 would be complete if I can solve this issue.

FYI...
Since I love picking at scabs, can't leave well enough alone, and have a severe case of update-itus, last one is a whole different can of worms, I followed my hunch and hope this will help anyone else curioused/interested.
I dirtied flashed my ROM, LeeDrOid, which delete/wrote-over, idk because they're the geniuses, not me, the Xposed Framework, I was able to verify via SafetyNet Helper and being able to add a credit card in Android Pay, that YES, Xposed Framework bunks Android Pay. I will try to make a purchase during lunch today and will update.

Too bad we havent been able to figure out a xposed app that tricks safetynet api into thinking its all good, then we could have it all
yea, even with systemless xposed, you still need to disable xposed via the toggle switch, and then reboot to get android pay to work. I managed to get my 2gb of free verizon data for making 3 soda purchases at work. Although, on a semi related note, android pay doesnt like one of my CC's with SE chip, it likes my other 2 just fine.

Original Firmware without fully losing root?

There are a couple of apps I want to use which require the fire tv to be unrooted. Is there a way I can run clean firmware without losing the future option to root the device again? I'm currently running one of the latest pre-rooted firmwares, so I've installed clockworkmod recovery.
I'm assuming I can install one of the old firmware versions that is still rootable? Not sure what functionality I'd lose?
What apps require you to be unrooted? Isn't there an Xposed module that will hide root from the app?
Sky Go and Virgin Anywhere. Wasn't aware of a module?
Checked the module and it doesn't work with those apps.

Yes, root cloak. It specifically says on the page that it doesn't work, so is it really worth trying? Sky are notoriously strict with iOS and Android platforms.

Getting android pay to work while rooted

Ive searched and found 2 solutions, first being use rootcloak, second being disable supersu in supersu settings. Unfourtunatly none of those work for me and i still get the "unable to verify android verson" error. Anyone have any success with another method? Im running viper 3.5.0

It did work for me too, is annoying now , now the phone has to have a lock screen set up. Google Wallet had better . It does look better to the eye though
For now, there is no guaranteed way to maintain both root & use Android Pay. XDA featured an explanation on the portal that was offered by one of Google's security engineers. It's fairly straightforward, if disappointing for anyone who wants both.
Mine stop working after a day ,
I just uninstall it , I was happy cuz it was annoying having the screen lock with a pin or pattern

no info/answer on this i have not tried android pay before but good to know all issues for when needed.
has anyone tried dirty flashing a stock rom setting up android pay then dirty flashing back to the wanted rom?
Hello
any 6.0 versions out there with integreated Android PAY ?
I get it to add cards by:
chmod 751 /su/bin
then
renaming xbin_bind folder
As far as working haven't tried it yet
what do you rename to the xbin_bind folder to? doesn't seem to be working for me

Anything but xbin_bind.
I'm wondering about this too. I guess in the meantime I could always get a contactless credit card and superglue it to the back of the phone. To emulate the NFC effect, I could just turn on the torch.

Possibility of Xposed Working?

Hello, first of all I've never owned a HTC phone and so I hope nobody minds me posting a speculative question. Based on previous HTC phones, is it likely that Xposed and Gravity Box will work with the HTC 10? The reason I ask is I own some very sensitive earphones and so need the feature in Gravity Box to increase the volume steps to 50? Othewise being restricted to the normal 15 steps is quite punishing for my ears. Thanks.
The HTC 10 unlocked version will support bootloader unlocking so Xsposed will definitely be able to be installed. The HTC 10 sprint version should as well, sprint has never disabled the ability to use HTC Dev to unlock the bootloader. Verizon is another story. They block HTC Dev and we don't know if the unlocked version will work on Verizon that is still TBD. It should but i would never leave anything Verizon has a finger in up to chance. Another possibility might be like the Verizon M9 that people were able to unlock using a java card. Only time will tell for verizon but if you have another carrier I would not worry.
The phone needs to be rooted to install xposed. In addition to the other stuff needed, unlocked bootloader...and highly recommend s-off when that happens. Foolish to not S-Off a phone and start messing with it. Brick city.
Yes. Xposed is MM compatible.
Haven't heard yet if they'll update Sense Toolbox for 8 (Mikanoshi doesn't think he'll get access to a sense 8 dev device) and mods are a case by case basis for compatibility. Give it time and eventually most of the popular mods will get updated.
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk
xposed would be no problem at all.. You would use the sense toolbox though instead of gravity box. Although now that sense is so stripped down, I suppose some things would also work from gravity box.
Hey guys
I've google searched this quite a bit, but I'm having an issue installing xposed to the HTC10.
I go into Recovery (using TWRP) and try to install the XposedFramework .zip file, but I keep getting : Failed to mount "/system"
Any ideas how to fix this and get Xposed installed ?

yes, works perfect, make sure you get the DVDandroid version xposed installer that you have to use with it. Gravitybox works quite well with the HTC10, xposed settings in playstore is also updated to work, as well as XinternalSD, which will allow programs to write to the internal SD. hope that helps

Looking to root my Verizon HTC 10 to disable their stupid "Connected to WiFi" notifications (which perplexingly isn't an option to disable like on some of their other phones), but I'm not clear if this is possible yet... has anyone here successfully gotten it to work? Is it worth rooting OP3?

So my One Plus 3 arrives today.. I am still considering whether to root or not?
I used to avidly root every phone i had but since using Android Pay I am not so sure.
What are you guys going to do? and whats your main reason for rooting?
Root is good if you want adblock, kernel app for adjustments(OC,UC etc), xposed modules etc. I personally root within few days, unlock bL and flash twrp. You can even find browser with built in adblock, no root needed, i suggest that to my friend who wants to keep warranty. It's up to you to decide. Cheers

"The technical process of rooting or unlocking the bootloader does not void the warranty of the OnePlus device. However, we strongly suggest for you to only root or unlock the bootloader of the OnePlus device if you are confident that you understand the risks involved. By accessing resources regularly unavailable to software, the process may damage your hardware during or after the procedure, which is not covered under warranty. In warranty handling, we will need to verify that any faulty behavior is unrelated to rooting / unlocking first." - Oneplus Support
So you do not lose your warrenty.

Flash the latest V85 sdk23 ARM64
If you bought this phone and don't intend to root, what is the point??? This phone is a tweakers paradise. And what is the big deal about Android Pay? Seriously....just use your card.
I unlocked bootloader and root the phone on the first day. It is worth it at first for Adblocker and the build.prob tweak for Ram-Managment. Better Battery Stats... At the Moment i don't use Xposed. I used it for xprivacy, but the Android 6 has proper right management. If i can find a way to get YouTube Adfree without Xposed, i won't use it.
Haven't found a strong enough reason yet. Got tired of all the flashing, only thing I miss is an adblocker.
You buy such a phone for root, changing roms and so on.. So do it yes
First use
i would first use it with stock rom just to try it.
I flashed SuperSU without breaking the underlying SafetyNet infrastructure and Android Pay works as well. Just using a few more apps like Adaway and Titanium.
I always root my phones, but with the original recovery and boot not being out for this phone, I feel a bit uneasy as there is no way of going back for now.

It will work with systemless root, and i even have SuperSU turned on, and can still make purchases (though usually it's off anyway)
What it doesn't work with is Xposed Framework. To use xposed, you need to install xposed systemless, and then turn it off and reboot before android pay will work.

[SOLVED] Android Pay
Okay guys I've solved it.
Open "SuperSU" > Settings > Untick Enable Superuser to disable it.
If you have Xposed installed then you need to uninstall it with the uninstaller file XDA Xposed Page Here restart your phone and then Android Pay will work (Well it did for me) then you can enable them after and the Android Pay will work.

I have S6 that's running custom ROM & Android Pay works.
It's rooted SuperSU system mode
It has Xposed running
I didn't have to turn off SuperSU nor uninstall xposed to get Android Pay to work.
Having used Android Pay since its launch in the UK, I find it very useful & would miss it now.
I'm surprised it works. I was reading about Android pay and systemless root in preparation for my new OP3 next week, and articles go back to January (such as this - http://www.androidpolice.com/2016/0...emless-root-android-pay-no-longer-compatible/) when Google caught on to the new systemless root and then disabled Android Pay on them.

That was true. Not sure what changed, or if it is the OP3 but systemless root works fine in the UK with pay, with SuperSU turned on! Passes the safety net test you can download from the play store too. Xposed still breaks it but I have a systemless version of that so I can just toggle and reboot.
