Display issues - HTC 10 Questions & Answers

Hi,
I've just noticed that on the left hand side of my screen I have a vertical bar around 2mm wide that looks corrupted in some way - like filled with horizontal hatched lines that I'm assuming are defective pixels or similar. It's a bit hard to describe, and even harder to get a decent photo of the problem. The attached is the best I could do.
The issue seems to be there all of the time, but is less noticeable on solid white / black backgrounds than it is on block colours.
Is this likely to be hardware issue, and would it be covered under UK warranty?
Thanks
cjc.

That definitely looks like a faulty panel. Nothing like that on my 10 (Carbon Grey, Tianma).
I'd get in touch with HTC UK and see what they think.

I have exactly the same issue and i've had my phone a week. I didn't notice it at first but it's definitely more noticeable on non white backgrounds, i've checked it with a screen tester which you can go through blocks of colour with. I also have the same slight dip in the top left.
How has your warranty claim gone with HTC? I'm going to try phoning them up today. I bought my phone from Very.co.uk but would rather deal directly with HTC.

Following this as well as I have stuck pixels in the middle of the screen. Very have been difficult to deal with so I'd really like to know how things go with HTC UK

Hey just as a follow up. very.co.uk refunded me with no questions asked. They don't do replacements so you have to re-order.

Dead Pixel(s)?

I have what seems to be a dead pixel that constantly seems to change color (when displaying darker colors it becomes visible) on the middle left side of the screen. I also seem to have one that flashes bright only once on top of the screen (not always, just when screen refreshes seem to occur).
Anyone else there having such problems with their X One? Sounds to be like a hardware problem..

a lot are experiencing the same mate, we don't know if its hardware or software no words from HTC so far
awaiting updates
Just found another (dead?) pixel. This one sits on the left side of the screen, and is only visible on grey or lighter backgrounds (not on black backgrounds). It is lighter than the rest when displaying a bight color, and sometimes flickery turns blue when swiping over colors on-screen.
Not all that disturbing, but I certainly don't like the idea of having a brand new phone with one (and potentially) two dead pixels on arrival.

Mine had 3 before I sent it back. Mine were dead, so stuck black.
Mine had a sticky pixel (the ones that can be seen over black background). It was visible only on very dark light conditions and over black background.
I wanted to go to the shop for replacement, but on that morning the pixel reactivated alone.
There are some apps on the play store that try to reactivate sticky pixel by changing the color of the screen very fast.
I doubt their effectivness, but they are worth a try.
I want to check One X for dead pixels in stock before I buy it.
How can I do LCD test at One X?
I try *#*#4636#*#* but I cant find LCD test here, so which code works for LCD test?

It is normally at the code you said, but seems to be missing on this handset. Use an Android app...there are quite a few.
But in stock Im unable to install any .app on it.
Any solutions how to check the display in stock?

Unless you have a very sensitive eye, I don't think you would be able to see a single dead pixel at the shop. The pixel density is so high that a single pixel is very very small. You need to watch very carefully to spot them.
Anyway, the best way to spot my sticky pixel was to take a picture covering the lens. You get a totally black picture, which you can view full screen and hunt for white/yellow/green/red pixels.
If the seller is veeeery patient you might be able to do that at the shop.
Maybe the same works for dead pixels, by taking a picture at a white wall.
What do the LCD experts think of this?
Anyway, all the apps on the play store for detecting dead/sticky pixel present the 3dots menu button. So they fail in detecting dead/sticky pixel in the bottom part of the screen.
Mine had a dead pixel along the top just right of the middle, I could only see it on dark colours. Took it back to o2 got a replacement there and then.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
Attached a pic of the pixels I'm referring to. They are indeed 'stuck' pixels, not dead pixels. The one in the top only shows periodically. The other two are there constantly.
Also noticed the screen flickers on some apps. Now that I do find very annoying.
Requested a DOA return.
Mine was made in Taiwan.
i've been using the phone for a 3 days now, and i still have problem wit few pixels with exactly problem that is described in the first post. ota 1.28. did not help. did the pixel fix apps help, and if it did, how long have was the app active until the problem was resolved?

I am skeptical that running those apps will actually fix things. That was also why I returned that phone to be replaced. Got my new one today, and it has no dead pixels. It does however have a very vague yellow bar on the top of the screen. Almost not to be seen, only when the screen displays only white.
If it really is a problem, I'd contact my retailer and get it replaced.

[Q] What are the odds of my HOX getting replaced instead of repaired?

Here's the story:
I bought my HOX (Indian, International, SH24 batch) close to 6 months ago (continue reading before saying it won't be replaced). I checked and tested everything according to the guide as soon as I could and it only showed a little bit of screen flex on the upper left corner, but I didn't say anything because I could live with that (I'm not that picky). Then, after some time I found out that the back of the device had a small bump near the camera lens, and by looking it up on xda I found out that it might be the battery expanding and we all know what could follow to that. Recently, I found that the screen has two vertical lines that are noticeable on grey backgrounds. These lines are not dead or burnt pixels, it seems as if the backlight was uneven and those lines were a lighter color than the rest of the screen.
Now, here is where I start to wonder the topic title.
If they were to repair it and assuming that that's the only damage and no other parts are involved, they would need to replace at least the back cover, the screen and the battery. Considering the only part that seems to be perfect is the motherboard, and that the rest needs replacement, is it possible to get a replacement unit instead of going through the whole hassle and wait of getting the repair done?

Screen problems

So I've been having some issues with my G3 and have been searching around with little luck. Does anyone else have these issues?
When I use my touchscreen, I can see distortion from the pressure placed onto the lcd screen. I'm not pressing hard on the screen at all.
Also, I've seen some people write about being able to see the digitizer in the background of their screens. Is this common on all G3's? It's very noticeable on mine and is really bothering me...
Also, this is my second G3. The first had a perfect screen (without noticeable digitizer), but had a VERY sensitive touchscreen (also viewable distortion from just normal swiping). My phone came from BestBuy and the only store with a white one in stock is 40 miles away from me. All the other BestBuy stores that are close to me all have black in stock. I know it sounds dumb, but are the problems I mentioned isolated to the white models only? So far both the white G3s I've had are having these problems...
Don't have either of those issues, but mine is a Best Buy purchased black version (AT&T)
Don't see how the color of the phone would have anything to do with this, doubt there is a difference in production. Good luck.

[Q] Faint vertical lines on screen

Hi guys, I don't quite now how to explain this, but I'll give it my best. I've had my g3 for almost two weeks now and I've started to notice very faint vertical lines on the screen when on a white background, I can see them right now while writing this. It also happens in the settings screen. I'm not certain if there's something wrong or if it's always been this way and I hadn't noticed. Has anyone else noticed this? I wouldn't even say the line have a colour, it's just an alternate of darkish and white lines. I could just be looking too close, but I'm not certain.
Also I have noticed a slight black blur when using knock code, like when you would touch an old lap top screen, although a lot fainter. It only happens in one little section of the screen, but I noticed it when using the white stock wallpaper. It only seems to happen when I tap for knock code and I have noticed it when I apply slight pressure to that area. I have been delicate with the touch screen since, but I don't believe I used much pressure in the first place.
Hope I explained it well enough. Anybody else noticed anything similar? Am I being paranoid and these things normal?
There is large discussion on the "lines." I see them too, but think it is a result of the resolution itself. Nobody can say/prove what it is AFAIK.
If I press real hard on the screen in certain spots, it seems like I can replicate the second thing you're talking about. If yours does it when just lightly tapping, I'd exchange it.

Hi,
Thanks for replying. I'm glad that the 'lines' aren't just in my imagination. Can you point me in the direction of the discussion on the lines?
I bought the phone online, but took into the store today to compare it to their demo model. It definitely doesn't have the same issue when I tap it. The salesperson wasn't sure what it was but she's going to send it in for repair/replacement. It sucks... now I'm going to have to wait till I get it back. The shop said they would have replaced it on the spot if I hadn't bought it online but from the store too.
Hopefully they get it back to me quick.
I hope no one else has this problem.
I think it's not the resolution itself, it's more about the software or kernel or something, LG implemented an oversharping thing which makes texts appear too sharp, but it's not only about texts, it's about the overall display! Notice when you scroll through LG Health page, you can see the lines moving, or changing in visibility, etc..
I have the same issue on my phone. There are very faint vertical lines most apparent on white and green colors and they seem to be rainbow colored. I have seen this issue with the at&t, t-mobile, and sprint versions of the G3 which my friends have.
It's not caused by the over sharpening effect because even after I flashed a fix for it, it still appears.
Almost as if it's like one of those 3d card/poster effects.
Hi guys,
is there any news on any fix on this?
I have the same problem. Should I RMA my phone?

Screen bleeding on mi10t pro

Just want to check with other user on whether your unit have a bleeding at bottom chin and side bezel. It's visible with grey background colour. Bottom chin will bright more with white colour. The bleeding/bright light at bottom does not appear at lowest or highest brightness. I'm quite reluctant to return it as there is not much complain on this and whether this is actually normal.
On my 2+ yr old Samsung S9... the cables and maybe (hope not, but...) the USB-C plug are getting loose. If it's plugged in to connect or to charge, I often have to move it around and wedge it against something to keep the connection cable. After doing that more over the last 10 months or so, a roundish "glow" developed on my screen - half fuzzy circle around the USB-C jack/plugin. It doesn't always show, maybe because of color - it's always a light greenish.
I don't believe your phone's screen's behavior is normal, and if it is, you should keep taking it back until you get one that's not normal and actually works right. It's not working properly, and if you got it recently... personally, I'd take it back. Despite the hassle.
(some stores MUCH worse than others - paid over $320 cash up front for a 3 year warranty at Worst Buy.. they said if it breaks, if I even Lose it, anything, bring it in, and get a new one) couple months later it wasn't charging and acting bad enough to be unusable. Brought it in... Sorry, you don't have $100 in the account you bought it with, so we can't help you! Geek Squad? Moron Squad? Bold faced lying salesmen.. rediculous. Best buy scam, got $300+ out of me for Nothing!

Yes there is about 3mm of bleed from the bottom of the phone (I believe it's normal). Are you able to send a picture with the grey background in a dark room?
Do you have the 10t or 10t pro?
