Keyboard help - Pixel C Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys.
I reset my pixel C today, and started fresh, but my keyboard isnt pairing with the tablet...... When attached, the prompt appears to turn on BT, but the numbers requried to pair never appear, plus, when manually pairing, it just seems to time out, no numbers appear either.
Have reset tablet again, have also reset network settings, and have also tried to pair the keyboard with another device - same behaviour, time out.
Is there a hard reset available for the keyboard?

If you can pair to any other BT device then flat battery in keyboard? I've no idea how you can tell!

i use to own the folio but have sent it back. i'm not aware of a hardware reset on keyboard. however, i also had this problem and became frustrated so i just turned bluetooth off but kept the keyboard attached for about a day. the tablet had been rebooted a couple times. when i had become calm enough to turn it on i was greeted with a paired keyboard. it may have had something to do with a battery in keyboard not charing because it was not attached for a few days.

Ok, so, I had another pixel c keyboard at work (my original one, dropped it on the plane, lost 2 keys, so I ordered my current one about 2 months back). and even though that has been off for 2 months, it paired up, first time.....
So the tablet must be working fine....just seems the "current" keyboard doesnt want to re-pair.
Almost tempted to swap the missing keys onto the old one.....just afraid I'd screw that up

That would be my first guess.

I lost my keyboard after the 7.0 upgrade. I am not sure, but I don't think I ever had keyboard after that. I have done hard reboots and "forgot" the keyboard along with every other BT device. Then I pair, key in the six digit number <ENTER> and it sits there saying Connecting... forever.
I bought mine in early June(Pixel and keyboard). It is not rooted and stock. Who is the to call about this?

I contacted tech support. They had me go to safe mode and pair and connect to keyboard. No change.
But then he asked if I could give him the serial number of the keyboard. I removed it from the tablet to search. Of course, there is no SN on the keyboard but I did find it on the box. While re-attaching the keyboard, it CONNECTED for the first time in days!!!! I rebooted in normal mode and it still worked. I unpaired and re-paired and it connected immediately.
I had the tech cancel the RMA for now.

I'm having this issue after returning to 7.1.2 from the Android O beta. Contacted support they were baffled. Keyboard out of warranty so no go on an RMA. Doesn't connect to my pixel or pixel c says incorrect passkey but never gives an option to enter one.

Try this, I finally got mine working after probably more than a year of not working at all... https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-c/help/finally-fix-bluetooth-keyboard-pairing-t3647393

[Q] Bluetooth Not working

Hi Forumers,
I've just bought the t800.
After a couple of days I've tried to use the bluetooth and oddly it cant find anything.
I've made sure I've got a few bluetooth items on in the room, and my phone and laptop can find them but my Tablet cant.
But, my phone was able to find the tablet and the two paired that way.
But since my tablet cant find my bluetooth speaker, its a tad rubbish..
Any ideas on how to fix?
Thanks in advance
I have a Bluetooth speaker and sometimes I have to restart the speaker or forget the speaker in order to connect to it.I would suggest (on your tab s) going into the bluetooth setting and check, make device visable to other devices. Hope this helps.
Sent from my SM-T800 using Tapatalk
okey dokey,
So Ive restarted my speaker, laptop phone and stereo bluetooth receiver, and nothing is showing to the tablet, so it seems not to be that.
the tablet is visible to my phone, so that part works.
but my tablet cant see anything.
Plan B?

Might try a factory reset. Right after I bought my T800 the wifi greyed out and refused to work. Did a reset and all was fine again.
Argh, I had just spent hours installing stuff.. but seems it may be the only answer!
Bu99er! :-/
Should I do anything special before a hard reset?

I wouldn't, but I never keep anything on my tablet of importance.
I brought the tablet to work so I could sort it out in work hours.
I was in the process of hitting the reset button and paused, and decided to try once more..
and now it works.
not sure what happened over night to make it work.. odd!?

Corrupted hard drive= dead Pixel C

Last night I tried turning on my Pixel C only to see a screen saying enter android password ive never seen this screen before so i figured i would try my Google password and i got a second message saying "the password you entered is correct but unfortunately your hard drive is corrupted and you will have to factory reset your device" or something along those lines so i hit factory reset where the open android appears and it had text in the bottom saying something like erasing hard drive i left it like that since i had somewhere to go and when i came back the pixel c was completely dead so i connected it to the charger and tried turning it on and it would boot to the google logo then the four dots and just reboot all the time i was not able to even leave it turned off i did try factory resetting the pixel through android manager but still had the same problem. has anyone else experienced this problem? i have contacted google and they are sending me a replacement just wondering if anyone knows whats wrong with it and why it messed up like this
yes, i am aware of the screen and the factory reset erase sequence. but the reset sequence occured while full charge and plugged into a pc . if the battery on yours was near discharged during the erase sequence it might have completely discharged before completing the factory reset which usually results in somewhat unknown issue. best to plug it in to charger before erase sequence if this happens again. good to hear that another unit is on its way.

im guessing the battery was around 80% when it decided to mess up so i think it got stuck formatting the hard drive and just died from there

any guess why this happened to yours? im thinking it might have to do with the magnets inside the pixel C i did stick it on the fridge to see if it was pretty strong (dumb yeah i know) lol it did work fine while stuck to fridge but messed up a few hours after that
This just happened to me. Here is the sequence of events that led up to it.
1. Fully charged and unplugged it. ( I did pull the unit off the keyboard as it was propped up but this shouldn't affect the storage right? )
2. It did a random reboot after taking it off the charger.
3. It asked for my password in a "pre-boot" screen
4. The message I get is : "Decryption unsuccessful" "The password you entered is correct but unfortunately your data is corrupt.
"To resume using your tablet you need to perform a factory reset. When you set up your tablet after this reset you'll have an opportunity to restore any data that was backed up to your google account."

yup, this has happened to mine several times but except for one time, i just pressed vol dn & power to get to the options screen and rebooted. so i did not have to reset but one time. but mine has not died yet. i also think the magnets might be causing this and some other issues
I've just had the same thing this morning and I'm in the process of a truly awful conversation with Google support during which I had to explain to them what "stuck in a bootloop" meant...
I've had this one since a week after launch, working fine - I assume there weren't any recent updates that changed any of the memory partitions?
You guys could always try to unlock your bootloader from fastboot and reflash the stock images.

God I hate dealing with non-technical customer service reps, the devs from Dolphin Browser didn't understand portrait vs landscape, I ended up stopping the conversation because I'd rather beat my head against the wall. Same thing goes for Wizards of the Coast and Magic 2015, I asked then why all my data on my tablet didn't sync to the cloud since it was using Google Play games so I could continue the game on my phone and they just kept on saying "It's not meant for phones so that's why it doesn't work" even though it actually worked perfectly on my phone, they also kept calling me by the wrong name, even after multiple corrections.

Same here
Okay, same boat here. Just received my Pixel C two days ago. Pretty neat to use, put always fully charged. Several unresponsive(freeze) occurs to me, especially when I tried Lens Blur feature in Google Camera. But overall I'm pretty satisifed with the experience and design.
Today I got onboard of a airplane. I guess it's after X ray security check machine... then I opened the tablet it prompted me with password. And the following with sort of "your drive is corrupt but we can restore it from Google backup" things. I clicked next (it's fully charged by now) and the looping restart begins. I can't even turn it off until I find the vol down + power trick to enter the recovery menu. But right now it's completely unusable. I think I'll request a order returning when I'm back...
I've just had the same experience on a third Pixel C, this time after about a week. I think this time I'm just going to demand a refund. They've failed to send me a single working device and don't seem to have any fix for this. I can't go through a continual process of RMA-ing and losing any data not yet backed up indefinitely.
What country are you guys from for those of you having issues? I'm in the USA and bought mine as soon as it launched and haven't had a single issue with it, meanwhile I see a bunch of people are having random QA issues which seems to be pretty odd.

I'm in the UK. I bought at launch so I'm well outside the 30-day window, but I've gone through three different units. On the plus side, they agreed to a refund with no hassle at all so I assume this isn't an isolated issue. Thanks to Amazon Prime I'm already setting up a Sony Xperia Z4 and, whilst I'd still prefer stock Android and the Pixel C 's aspect ratio, I'm actually pretty impressed with it so far...
Same thing here.
Did your replacement function?

Screw Google for not sending a USB C to USB A 3.0 cable so I could at least attempt a ADB factory flash.

You know "boot loop" isn't a technical term right??

PX5 stuck showing warning image, buttons unresponsive.

I just bought a PX5 unit, which seemed to be working perfectly until I finished installing it into my car and now it has become unresponsive with a black screen and a yellow rhombus with an exclamation point in the middle (unable to upload image as new user).
If I turn off the ignition, it will turn the stereo off and the android screen briefly shows before going into sleep. None of the buttons are allowing me to get past the screen and in to android. The reset button seems to do nothing, android is definitely running in the background, just unsure as to why this screen will not close. Any ideas?
Hi, I think I saw a yellow rhombus with an exclamation point when I was installing my radio and rear view camera was not connected to the radio. I think that it is a warning about missing video signal when radio is displaying live feed from a rear view camera.
So, one explanation for your issue could be that the radio thinks you are reversing, and the rear view camera is not connected to the radio. If I understand it right, radio can switch to rear view camera display mode based on two conditions 1) canbus information 2) +12v trigger signal.
For the condition 2), you could check that nothing is unintentional connected to reverse detect wire. If that does not help, then you could perhaps try to disable reverse view feature in the configuration menu before installing the radio to the car and/or find a working canbus configuration settings.
Please notice that I'm a beginner with Android head units and your problem might well be something totally different!!
Thanks for your reply. Some of your post seems to relate to my issue definitely, I think it is linked to the rear view camera which is currently disconnected. However I am unable to get into any configuration options. None of the buttons/resets I try get me past the exclamation screen, I can only see android once I turn off my ignition when it tells me it is closing down. None of the various reset button combinations seem to do anything with my head unit either, can't seem to reset it properly. Its strange, I will reattach the camera tomorrow and see if that brings any joy. I don't know anything about this stuff myself but I am wondering if I did something to the head unit to brick the non-android side somehow.
Edit: Unfortunately reattaching the camera did not change anything.
Update. I have managed to find a way in to the Android side if I connect my phone via bluetooth to the stereo, it then lets me use the split screen function via the top bar menu to put the warning screen other screen to the side, however whenever I touch the screen or attempt to use the android interface, my stereo goes back to the warning screen, none of my inputs via the stereo buttons or the touch screen seem to be registering with the Android side? Very confused. I have also tried as many button combination resets I can find and I have not been able to successfully get into the recovery menu, or any change except rebooting.
Was your unit professionally installed?
Also, what did the re-seller suggest when you contacted them for support?
No the unit was not professionally installed. I am not sure how I've become stuck with the problem. I made some minor changes in factory settings but nothing I thought would of caused this. The seller is yet to respond and its been a couple of days, but I have requested the hardware reset methods for this unit or any other solutions.

Check the reverse wire on the back of the unit...if necessary disconnect it to ensure no reverse signal is received.
If your unit can boot into android normally then you will have to figure out why the reverse wire is receiving signal .
Check your connectors to avoid any of them to be loose.

Everything has been disconnected from the unit except the power cable to car and and canbus, from what I can tell nothing is loose. Unit will not boot without the canbus box whatsoever, not sure if that is meant to happen.

Yes, canbus decoder need to be connected for power up the HU. If you dont need the decoder box you need rewire the harness.
I think I am going to have to request a refund and return it. Still no reply from the reseller and I am not sure what else I can try, everything that is not needed to power it has now been removed. I can't send links or else I would update the thread with a video of the touch/physical buttons being completely unresponsive even when I manage to get to Android. The unit has definitely developed a fault and I am unable to reset it. Admittedly it could be my fault somehow as it was working for the first few boots, but unless they give me something to try I am just going to have to send it back.
Quick bump. Has anyone got any further ideas? I bought off Aliexpress so contact with the seller is slow and painful, they do not seem to understand the issue and just keep telling me to disconnect all wires and reconnect. Which has been done many times. If anyone wants to post a link to the video for me I would be happy to send them it privately.

I would start a dispute with them. I had a device that they sent with similar problems and plenty of issues, which they would not help with or would not understand. Best option is to dispute to get a new device or a full refund. Could you send the video?

Yeh I have a dispute open currently, just was hoping it would inspire the seller to actually offer up a working way of resetting the device. Had to add link below seperately as needed to be ten or most posts.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ujHacKESAT8&feature=youtu.be
The stereo defaults as the warning image black screen and I can only get android up using the multiwindow button with a long press. Then the android side will not register any input and will keep trying to put the black screen to the front.
Update: I have been told by Aliexpress I can have a partial refund and keep the unit, or a full refund if I return to China. Anyone have any ideas how I would go about resetting the unit if I took the partial refund? To be honest I think my only option is to return it and get the full amount back but any ideas would be welcome! Shipping to China and awaiting a refund is going to take weeks, would rather just get it working if possible.
deano35: any progres? I have the same problem as you. This is my post from PX5 MTCD/E Head Unit Discussion Thread
" Hi , I have https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/DtwdJIt its px5, Mtce_gs_v2.90c. Now I have a little problem with rear camera. I bought reverse camera and tried to connect it into front camera input(I was curious how it would look like) and since then its stuck on camera view. Even after disconnecting camera. Only solution was disable "prohibit reverse" in factory settings menu, but with "prohibit reverse" disabled is obviously not showing reverse camera when I gear the reverse down. Everything is shown in this video. https://photos.app.goo.gl/XbYUHApzT8qTezkq6 Thanks for any advice. "
Take a look on the video, its similar as yours.

Pixel 3 XL - bluetooth issues

So I've got a Pixel 3 XL, completely stock and completely up to date. Unrooted.
I've got reoccurring Bluetooth issues where it won't see devices it's been paired with until I restart the phone, and then in some cases it doesn't even know it's been paired - it completely forgets the devices I've paired with (sometimes one, sometimes multiple, sometimes all!). The problem is not isolated to any particular device that I pair it with.
I've considered a factory reset to see if that helps, but wanted to see if anyone has any other recommendations before I take a chunk out of my day doing a rebuild of my device.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

I've never had this issue before, even when I was on custom ROM. My Bluetooth works fine in car, at home, and with wireless headphones.
Sent from my Pixel 3 XL
I cleared out the bluetooth cache and storage then rebooted this morning - going to see if it makes any difference. Usually it takes a day or two before a device disappears after I re-pair with the phone. Unless anyone has any other suggestions I may do a factory reset in a few days if it happens again.
Not bluetooth but I did have all my saved wifi networks wiped after a reboot a few weeks ago. Oddly, I rebooted because my phone wouldn't connect to my Fitbit via bluetooth to sync. I rebooted and the screen was black, not responding at all. If I pressed the power button it would vibrate slightly as it does when the power menu pops up, but nothing else. After trying a few button combos I got it to reboot again and everything was fine except wifi networks were all gone.

Question Mi smart pen problem "K81 CS(DFU)"

Hey there everybody.
So I was using the stylus normally until the firmware update shows up, after a error on update the pen doesn't show up any more. I already tried to restore/restart the tablet and Bluetooth but without any success.
When I attech doesn't show anything, but when I remove pop a notification in red "charge your stylus now". BTW it already was in 100% b4 the update error.
Update: Apparently it's now showing as "K81 CS(DFU)" on Bluetooth and when I try to pair it says "couldn't pair with K81 CS (DFU) because of an incorrect PIN or pass key"
I have the exact same problem...any solution found yet?
Had this problem when i tried to update 1st time my gf Stylus on her tablet, first i tried with the (original) magnetic cover on and the stylus went onto DFU mode, i pressed on the button closer to the tip for about 10 seconds and the stylus went to normal mode(if i recall right). if this doesn't work try maybe the second button, or both at the same time.
Then i updated the stylus on my tablet without the magnetic cover.
Later received my own stylus and did the update procedure directly whitout the magnetic cover.
If the above doesn't work try to deplete the stylus battery, don`t connect the stylus to the tablet and leave it alone. i don't know the exact time it will last, maybe two days, or maybe a week or more, it has a tiny battery (25 mAh).
If succesfull reboot the table once, be sure to have the stylus linked but not attached to the tablet to be extra safe.
Good luck.

Hi there.
Unfortunately it doesn't work.
I left the battery dry and did all the rest, but when I try to connect to the pen in dfu mode it says "couldn't pair with K81 CS(DFU) because of an incorrect PIN or password".
Okay for some magical reason it worked today.
B4 I tried all the things again I opened the " service & feedback" app and started a "get Bluetooth log" and for some unknown reason it worked.

Thanks, but this solution is for those who can connect the pen but cannot update the firmware.
In my case, the pen doesn't even connect to the tablet anymore, so I can't change the contact sharing permissions.
Hey guys so I tried multiple message and I finally got it working.
I reseted the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi preferences.
I tried to hold the front button for 10 seconds.
I tried holding the back button for 10 seconds.
I called xiaomi support and they told me to reset the Bluetooth on Wi-Fi preferences and so I did that. Then I got a notification that my xiaomi pen update was complete and I noticed that now it was connected to my tablet.
Anyone else who didn't have luck by their side?
Still have the same problem. Showing k81 C's after update my miui to 13.1.3. any other suggestion what to do to fix it
how to solve this problem k81cs(dfu)
I got the same problem with the pen who appears as K81 CS(DFU), i'm trying a lot of things, but nothing works. If anyone got an other tip :/
I keep getting please chatge your stylus now eveen after 100% fix this so annoying
Same problem.
Mi Pad 5 global version 13.1.5
Mi Smart Pen was purchased from Amazon.de - and recently turned with "K81 CS(DFU)" issue.
There is no way to update the firmware as the firmware update is disabled. Attaching and detaching pen reports "Charge your stylus now" so there is some communication going on between both devices.
I've used the service and feedback to send the logs. Tried all workarounds described on XDA forums, nothing seems to help.
there is a lsposed module named maxmipad it removes bluetooth authentication so try it i dont have the pen
