GPS not working on two (!) new One M8 with pre-installed marshmallow - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
the speaker on my One M8 (Lollipop) wasn't working anymore so I got a replacement from Vodafone (Germany) with Marshmallow pre-installed. After everything was set up on the new phone, I wanted to use navigation in Maps, but it wasn't working. Maps just couldn't get a fix on my location.

I downloaded GPS Status from the play store and it confirmed that GPS wasn't working: "No Fix".
After that, I did the following:
Turning GPS on/off
Inserting a different SIM card
Toggling the location setting between "High Accuracy"/"Device only"
Soft reset (Reboot)
Turning off battery optimization for all GPS apps
Factory reset
All that didn't work. So I got another replacement phone from Vodafone (a completely different device) and I got the exact same problem with this one. My humble guess is that it seems to be a problem with marshmallow.
Some additional information:
Android 6.0
HTC Sense 7.0
Build 6.12.161.4 CL662736

So, any news from this? I have the same problem and don't want to resort to custom roms or a downgrade.

In Settings>Apps, go to Google Maps (or whatever app or apps you are trying to use along with GPS) and in Permissions, confirm if Location is toggled on.
In MM, lots of permissions need to be activated on a per-app basis. So I suspect that may be the issue (Location permission is simply not toggled on). Also, when setting up the phone, there was the option to allow Location to be shared with apps, and you may have selected "No" causing this permission to be toggled off for all apps as default.

Thank you, unfortunately that didn't help. I'm beginning to suspect hardware failure (even though phone is new).
I checked the permissions on all apps using location, and tinkered with all sorts of settings. Nothing helped.

Phone info setup as a device administrator

Hello,
I have had my phone for a while now, but today was the first time since I got the phone that I looked at the device administrators area (settings / security / device administrators) and I noticed that there was an item called "Phone Info" that was activated by default and after reading about what it is supposed to do, I decided to deactivate it, but I was unable to do so. My questions therfore are:
1.) what is the purpose of this item?
2.) why can I not deactivate it?
3.) is it normal for it to be activated by default?
4.) if is not needed than how do I get rid of it?
In case it helps, my phone is rooted and I am still running the stock 4.1.2 ROM that came with the phone.
A few days ago I tried out the "All In One" 4.3 Stock ROM from Thunder Stick, but it was not working for me to well so I restored my nandroid backup of my original stock ROM so I am not sure If the other ROM has anything to do with it or not or if the setting has always been like that, but as I said before, I just noticed it today and would like to know what it is and how to deactivate it if I can.
Thanks for any and all replies,
Mtcell

Here is another one that shows the permissions dialog and where I should be able to deactivate it, but pressing the deactivate button has no effect.
That is weird. I am checking my s3 now but this is all it shows on my optimus G. Maybe it is a Samsung thing?

Edit: here is what my s3 shows under those settings, but remember, my s3 isn't activated. Maybe it is just the activation stuff?

Thanks for the reply. After doing some research I have discovered that it is part of some corporate security thing that sprint has on some of the newer s3's (see the attached screenshot) Anyway, I have frozen the app since there is no way to disable it. That will work for now until I change my stock ROM in a few weeks.
If anyone else has this app setup as a device administrator and wants to disable it than you can use the pro version of titanium backup or the free version of sd maid to freeze the app like I have done. Note, your phone must be rooted to use these apps.

Sensors issue (acc., pros., gyro., lux). Android 5.0.1

My devices setting: stock OS, stock kernel, latest twrp and chainfire rooted. Nothing else. I updated from Android 4.4.4 straight to 5.0.1 (5.0 skipped) with fastboot clean flash, data, cache wipe.
So, the story went like this. I read a book on Google Play Books in landscape, then I put my device into sleep mode by closing the magnet cover. I closed it in landscape mode and left it in landscape.
Later, when I wanted to use my device again and I opened the cover to wake my device, the display was stuck in landscape. I didn't lock the autorotation.
I downloaded the app "Sensor Kinetics-Innoventions" to make tests of my device's sensors, pretty every kind of sensors. Here are the results, I attach some screenshots showing that the sensors cannot be detected at all (no numbers indication changing around. If you don't understand what I mean, try out the app yourself).

See, even the lux sensor doesn't work. Now my screen brightness doesn't adjust to the surroundings even when "adaptive brightness" is switched on my device.
FYI, I did a clean update from KitKat 4.4.4 to 5.0.1 skipping 5.0 using fastboot and official from factory image extracted system.img, boot.img, etc., wiped data and this kind of bug is what I encounter.
Normally, when the sensors are working, the app would show something like this (after reboot it fixed the issue, but only for a short time and I quickly made a screenshot):
The thing is, now, even a reboot won't fix the sensors issue. I am not in a mood to do all this flashing and setting up again, don't have that f*cking time. [emoji36]
Finally, I found a solution and temporary fix. The bug is actually caused by Google Now (I don't know which version though, maybe the lastest). I went to the Google Now "Ok Google voice recognition on every screen" and disabled it, rebootet and voila all sensors are working again. It has something to do with Google Nows constant voice recognition-ish thing. So this fix worked for me. Anyone wanted to know, here it is. Cheers and peace.
Nice to know
impressive!!! worked for me as well !

LG G4 Verizon Wireless VS986
Stock everything, unrooted, and up-to-date as of post
Android Version: 6.0
Security Patch Level: 2016-03-01
Kernel: 3.10.84-g4790274
Build: MRA58K
Software version: VS98625A
Device encryption enabled, but not on the SD card.
All apps are installed on the device. The SD card only contains music, podcasts, and pictures.
Issue: Starting this week some times when I reboot there are missing apps when the phone powers back up. I havent noticed this after every reboot, but maybe i...just havent noticed.
A few days ago I rebooted my phone to see it "Optimizing apps" after entering my encryption password as if I had cleared dalvik cache or performed an OS or kernel upgrade or something. After completion the phone started up as normal but probably a dozen apps were missing. Most notably Hangouts, my calendar app, and Google Now... I rebooted again 2 nights ago and Pocket Casts, my budgeting app, and Light Flow, amongst others, were missing. I rebooted again this morning and my fking launcher was missing (Nova). WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON WITH MY PHONE?
Even stranger is when I reinstall an app I barely need to change any settings; the data must still be on the phone because almost all my settings and profiles are immediately present. When i re-installed my budgeting up I was still signed in and synced (cloud subscription service). When i reinstalled Nova my desktops were exactly how they were minutes earlier before the reboot. After re-installing Hangouts I was still signed into the appropriate google accounts and not signed into the one I don't use for Hangouts. When I re-installed Google Now I wasn't even presented with the setup wizard and tutorial and all the cards I'd expect were there and accurate.
Since the VZW G4 is not easily rooted or bootloader unlocked not only have I been stuck with whatever Verizon and LG deemed worthy of me using (read: NOT using) in addition to already being on my second phone due to the boot loop hardware issue., but now i've got this to deal with? This phone was supposed to be awesome, but if not for the removable battery and sd slot I'd have moved on months ago.
I'm gonna FDR this evening or tomorrow evening if I can't find a real solution. Has anyone seen anything like this before???
bump
Personally I hadn't heard that before, but a quick (Google) search indicates it's happening with various phones. My first thought was check for virus..
Performed a FDR this week and the issue has been resolved. Super weird.

Dual sim menu in quick settings, how to change menu style?

So this is my current quick settings panel (in the first picture)
the 2 sims are listed, but in order to change their settings, I need to click on it and it opens the settings...

This used to look like: (found the image online somewhere)
And when it was like this, I can change each setting for which sim I want to use, at any moment...
I'm not sure what changed, I don't always use 2 sims (most of the time its an SD card) so it might have been a change in a os update, or it might have been something I changed in the odm/etc/csc feature xml files (which I added and changed many things for different settings I wanted, like giving the alarm clock an option to boot up the phone of it was shut off, for example)
Or it might be some root or exposed module... (I'll test this tomorrow if I get the time, though I doubt thats the cause...)
If any one knows what caused this, or how to revert it, please let me know

I assume that the change was caused by a recent firmware update.
You have some options in settings - connections - SIM card management (or similar). There you can select which SIM card to use for calls and which one for mobile data. And you can disable/enable dual SIM feature.
If you do not find those settings, you may have to install latest stock Samsung firmware for your device.

[Mi10T Pro] App selection stopped working. I am looking for help

Hello
This is my first post so please be understanding.
I have been using the phone from the beginning as a regular user. I haven't made any modifications or changes to it (like root change etc.)
Recently, the official update of MIUI to version 13.0.8 appeared and after that the application selection stopped working. I had no problems with the phone before.
For example: An attempt to open a pdf file brought up a window with a list of various applications that handled the file. The same thing happened with other files or URLs. I have several browsers, so depending on what I wanted to open the Internet address with, I indicated the right choice.
Now the window shows up, but trying to tap the three dots immediately brings up a random app, each time a different one, no additional window pops up. No list of any apps expands.
I thought that maybe the problem will solve itself after resetting the phone. I set everything up again, did not restore any backups. Unfortunately, the problem is the same. I don't have any default settings.
What can be done? The problem is very irritating. I have no idea.
Apart from this problem, everything else works fine.
I will appreciate any help or suggestions
Screenshots are in Polish, if necessary I can translate.

Hello, I suffered from the same bug for a long time until I found the culprit.
You just have to uninstal updates of the Xiaomi Mi Browser (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mi.globalbrowser). Sadly it can't be easily uninstalled. Maybe it can be done with ADB, but I have not tried yet. Remember to disable automatic updates from the PlayStore to avoid it to update. This will cause the bug again.
I also suffer other bugs like an ugly and forced dark mode when the battery is below 40%. I was always tempted to install a custom ROM, but the stock camera features (manual focus, lens distortion correction, 108 MPX, zoom...) are important for me.
Thanks for the help. This solved part of the problem. Now I have a choice when opening files but still no choice when opening URLs.
Maybe someone else?
