[AFTV 1] Got 5.0.5.1r1, Got TWRP, Got Xposed. NO GOT Play Store - Fire TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone know how to get the Play Store running on Rbox's new rooted wonders? Amost thought I pulled it off in Open Gapps but could not see cursor in Play Store.

http://www.aftvnews.com/how-to-install-the-google-play-store-on-the-fire-tv-2-running-fire-os-5/
- replace open_gapps-arm64-5.1-nano-#.zip = open_gapps-arm-5.1-nano-#.zip (not 64bit)
but I can't used search in play store.
if you can't install open_gapps-arm-5.1-nano-#.zip from recovery because no space enough. you can try install open_gapps-arm-5.1-pico-#.zip first, after that you can install open_gapps-arm-5.1-nano-#.zip
p/s: after install open_gapps-arm-5.1-nano-#.zip, you can used search in play store

Got the Pico installed. Nice to know i can go back and do the Nano install. Where i crashed an burned is that I cannot Copy the "phonsky.apk" to priv-app. Says the directory is un-writable. I've got root and get SU but the command fails. Tried to manually do it with ES and RootExplorer. Made directory writable in both but the copy still fails. Too weird.

But I did other than using the ARM64 nano. Started with ARM nano but no room and succeeded with ARM pico. Then did every command listed starting with ABD shell. Failed at the CP command. Said could not find file. That's when I started to manually copy it.

I tried the method in the aftvnews guide (and did it step by step just as instructed) and also tried Root Explorer on the FTV...no go. The Phonesky folder was created, but the Phonesky.apk will not copy to that directory. I even changed the directory to writeable in Root Explorer.
Any ideas...?

AFTV1 root able?
if not, you could't install google play store.
if yes, you can change step 13 (cp /sdcard/Phonesky.apk /system/priv-app/Phonesky/) with command:
cp /data/media/0/Phonesky.apk /system/priv-app/Phonesky/

I presume we would need to manually copy "Phonesky" to /data/media/0/ ?
I'll give it a rest for now. Haven't recovered from my first effort. Does seem the original command did not really point to "Phonesky".

We'll I'll be go to heck. /data/media/0/ IS the /sdcard/. Everything I think is at /sdcard/ is there. Even "phonesky" is there. This alias addressing is maddening.
Very good catch!

if you can't sign in youtube, you can download:
• Google Play Store 6.3.08.B-xhdpi [8] 2624459
•Disable Service
install google play store the same guide.
in disable service: tap system > play store -> uncheck “ReschedulerUsingAlarmManager$CheckWifiAndAutoUpdate”.

I gave up. Play Store is there but i can't get past the charcoal hued geometric patterned screen. Purged a bunch of stuff but still can't get Nano to load due to lack of space. TWRP restored back to where I was before starting this failed quest.
I have gotten very good at downloading APK's from the Store with a Chrome extension or extracting them from my phone. Sideloading is pain but works.

“cp /sdcard/Phonesky.apk /system/priv-app/Phonesky/” – is not a directory.

[Q] Hulu working on EVO stock-rooted Froyo 2.2?

Isn't Hulu supposed to be playable on Froyo? Doesn't seem to work on the Evo with netarchy's Froyo stock-rooted ROM. I've been researching this topic for a fix, and I've seen something done for Nexus One and CM6 users but I don't want to loose 4G. I thought being able to watch Hulu was one of the most hyped about features of having Froyo.
You need a hacked version of Flash, and to change your UAString to Desktop. Search in the Nexus One forum for details.
Engadget has a walkthrough for the Nexus One. All but actually playing a video worked great on my Evo running CM6 :/. maybe you will have more luck on the Sense browser..
Here's another link I found for the Nexus One: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=688054
I tried installing the apk but it would not not install.

Did you by chance already have flash installed? If yes, you need to uninstall it first.... If no, what was the error? Did you use adb to install? or? I have that version installed on my phone (running cm6)...

I have Hulu working just fine via the default browser on CM6 nightly and RC1. Read the instructions and try again.
I appreciate the help fellas, but I'm looking for a stock-rooted Froyo solution. With the CM6 ROM you have to give up 4G, FM Radio, etc.

How do I go about uninstalling Flash? I tried installing the apk straight up with estrong.

1) Uninstall Flash from the Settings>Applications>Manage Applications>All menu.
2) Install the hacked Nexus One version of Flash with Hulu support, via ADB.
3) Open any page in your browser then go to the url "about:debug" (without the quotes) and then go to Menu>Settings. Scroll all the way down to the bottom, select UAString, and change from Android to Desktop.
4) Go to http://www.hulu.com/
5) Enjoy.

The leaked Sense 2.2 ROM has Flash 10.1 installed from the get-go, so you can't uninstall it in a traditional way. If you go into /system/app/ there is install_flash_player.apk. I renamed it "install_flash_player.apkz" (this makes it so Android doesn't recognize it, pretty much the same as just deleting it) so I could see what that would change. It doesn't remove Flash 10.1 from Menu > Settings > Applications, but it did stop Flash from loading in the browser. You could try that, but I don't know how far it'd get you.

I tried that way. Still get the can't install error. Flash
Uninstall is greyed out in stock 2.2 with root.
if you're rooted, use adb, shell in, navigate to where the apk is in system/app, rm it, then navigate to the data/data/ folder that the data is stored, rm that too. reboot. install the modified flash apk.
if you know part of the file name (adobe, or flash, or whatever), use adb shell, then
find -name "*partofthenameyouknow*.*"
it'll spit out the locations of the apk, data, and cache. then just rm -rf all those files. reboot. install the modified flash apk

Im getting closer. I did what you said. Was able to get the Flash 10.1 from the Nexus forum installed. When I got to Hulu, it still gives me "not available on your platform" error.
Edit: I forgot the about:debug command. Although, I did that, it still didnt work. I then downloaded the Hulu app made by someone, and
whala, Hulu is working.
Thanks
what hulu app? I could not locate it.... man this looks like a pain in the rear.... no way to simply change the way hulu see's my EVO? like a useragent string or is flash giving me away?
Owell, at least southparkstudios is working fine

Actually, not a PIA at all.
Just fyi, I didnt use any ADB commands, just did it all on the phone using SUFBS.
1> Simply what was mentioned above. Remove the Adobe Flash stuff from the System/app and Data/Data area.
- I did this by renaming the directories using SUFBS on my phone.
2> Reboot Phone.
3> Install the Modified Flash (Found in the Nexus Thread)
- Once again, I just downloaded on the phone and used SUFBS to install.
4> Reboot Phone
5> Go to Browser, type about:debug and GO. Then go to Settings and down at the bottom, change the UAString to Desktop.
6> Whala.
This thread helped me out alot: (Widget here too).

If you still havent got it to work, grab Android Mate from the market and use that to install the hacked flash version. It will ask if you want to replace the original flash so there is no need to uninstall it first. Then do the about:bug from your browser and you'll be good to go.

Thanks. I was 99% sure, but I wanted confirmation before I wasted any of my time.
I am an Unrevoked3 user (I know, I know. No lectures please), and was pretty pissed about this. Then I discovered that NAND is unlocked when I'm in the ClockworkMod recovery. So I booted into recovery and did the following on my PC:
Code:
adb shell
mount -o rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system
mount -o rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock6 /data
cd /system
mv install_flash_player.apk install_flash_player.ap_
cd lib
mv libflashplayer.so libflashplayer.s_
cd /data/data
rm -r com.adobe.flashplayer
cd com.android.browser/app_plugins/
rm -r com.adobe.flashplayer
umount /system
umount /data
exit
adb reboot
Then I installed the hacked APK, did the UA fix and was rockin and rollin.
Note the remount flag is not necessary above, because the partitions are not already mounted. In fact, if you try to use the remount flag, it will fail. I have .tar backups of the two directories deleted, if anyone by chance needs them to restore.

When you reboot, the UA reverts to default and you have to change it back to Desktop again.

[Q] Sandvold freezing at boot

I am using Sandvold's ROM but, starting from some days ago, I encountered a big problem: during startup, my Desire freezes and cannot terminate the boot sequence. Even a nandroid restore is not able to fix it: I have to factory reset the device and, after that, restore works. I haven't changed anything, I don't know what could cause this problem, which is very annoying.
I use the latest version, 0.18.2.1.
What could I do?
I'm using the same version of the ROM and for a while now it has been randomly freezing up and I have to physically remove the battery to be able to restart it, after which it resets the date back to January 1980.
Today it froze up and it is also stuck in a boot loop. Tried wiping the dalvik cache and that didn't work so I'll do the factory reset like you suggest. I don't really want to have to switch back to a GB ROM though as I really like ICS.
Same problem here, the problem started when I rebooted today. Running sandvold 0.18.1.
After some digging I could identify a rough source of the problem, but I'm not Android guru, so it will take somebody more experienced than me to figure this out. Essentially, what happens, is that the system_server goes into a loop and keeps on crashing and getting restarted. I've attached the logcat for the gurus.
I'll try reinstalling and possibly wiping to see if that helps.
Just a quick followup, I had to do a full wipe to get back to working order. Attached is a comparison logcat. I don't really understand how Android boots, so I would kindly ask the more knowledgeable devs to have a quick look. Thanks!
After setting the phone up and rebooting, the problem is back again. Seems like there is a time/date-related bomb in sandvold 0.18.
The same problem at 0.18.2.1.
As much as I found it works (is able to survive reboot) until any soft from Google Play was installed.
After that it has a bootloop on reboot.
Actually I didn't try to install anything from .apk so it can be related to the installation process itself.
Also the same problem has 0.17.1.1 (I don't сheck all versions, just the last ones of majors).
---------- Post added at 09:47 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:20 AM ----------
0.16.1 - the same problem.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Wipe and install ICS
2. Add google account (at that point the phone still survives a reboot nicely)
3. Install any soft from Play
4. Reboot and enjoy the bootloop
Add: update of an existing soft from Play still causes a bootloop.

Briefly:
0. Make sure you have adb and phone drivers so you can connect to the phone from computer via "adb shell"
1. Google for Vending-3.8.15.noupdate.norestrictions.apk, download it, rename to Vending.apk, place to sd card
2. Reboot into Recovery mode, use menu to mount "system" and "sdcard"
3. Run "adb shell" on computer
# cd /system/app
# ls
You should see Vending.apk somewhere in the list
This will delete the broken Play Store app
# rm Vending.apk
# rm -r com.android.vending
# rm -r com.android.vending.updater
Settle the correct Play Store app (assuming you placed the downloaded Vending.apk to the root folder of sd card)
# cp /sdcard/Vending.apk /system/app/
4. Clear Dalvik cache
5. Profit!
Now reboot and enjoy the regular booting.
Also you can use the Play Store to install applications.

Thank you!
I was trying to see if the same method could be performed with the terminal emulator (I haven't installed the sdk, so I don't have adb), when I realized that the superuser app is broken, too. The "su" command in terminal isn't working, as the superuser app stops.

I also tried to do this via Terminal, and my "su" is ok.
But it doesn't work.
It looks like commands are being executed successfully, but it in fact they aren't.
Same problem for me...I'll try to fix it following your help!!! I let you know!!
It work, but I'm not able to "install" the edit Play Store downloaded!!! Reboot work, but no Play Store present among my applications!!!
I find com.process.vending in my application list, but it's a grey icon whit the small sd symbol!
I'll try again to uninstall it!
I have the same problem but, when I tried to use the dietwice's method, I found only the Vending.apk on /system/app folder. So I removed it, replaced with the Vending.apk file downloaded and I continued to follow the method and then I rebooted the phone.
The boot loop is present also after this, so I'd like to know if the fact that I didn't found com.android.vending and com.android.vending.updater is a signal that something was wrong even before applying the dietwice's method.
Someone can answer to my question, please?
I have the same problem as freakymonkey. Any Ideas?

I have flashed the ROM again from ClockworkMod recovery and, first to make the reboot, I used the dietwice's method and everything went OK! :good:
On the first boot something went wrong with synchronization with my gmail account, but after a reboot (without boot loop) everything worked fine.
I restored everything but sd-ext and it (re)booted fine, so it has something to do with that. Maybe some Google Play Store data is still on there? How can I get rid of these?
EDIT: Ok, I found some files, will try to delete them tomorrow.
Following the main Sandvold discussion, I've FIXED it!!!!
At the end of the procedure, I needed to do "adb uninstall com.android.vending" and then reboot.
I've Play Store back! )))

I have been unable to get the Play Store back on my HTC Desire. I have followed the above steps exactly but no shortcut appears on the applications screen.
I have tried wiping the dalvik cache, even did a fresh install of ICS Sandvold Rom but no luck.
Could it be because of the default a2sd?
Any assistance much appreciated guys

Can't copy GoogleServicesFramework.apk to /system/app directory

I have been able to root my Kindle and want to get the store working.
I think I need to copy the Google Services Framework APK to the /system/app directory.
I am using ES File Explorer version 1.6.2.5.
My Kindle is version 6.3.2.
When I try to copy the file from the SD card to the /system/app directory it says unable to copy.
Thanks in advance for the help
Did you mount system as read/write?
I'm afraid I don't know what that means. I used KFU 0.9.6 to root the device. I had installed ES file explorer before I did the rooting. Does explorer need to be read/write, or is that an option for KFU? Is it an option I can change or do I have to re-install something?

ES File Explorer should have the option to do so, but I don't use it so I couldn't say for sure. If you can't figure it out, I'm sure someone around here will be able to help.
I found the Root settings in ES F E and checked the option for Root Explorer. It gave me a message that test fails option not allowed on your phone. Not sure if that is what I should be looking for or not.

Do you have an ADB connection?
The Mount File System option is greyed out.
Below that it says Mount/ , /system as writable.
Does that have to be installed after the rooting is done?
Is there another file explorer option that is better?
Should I uninstall and re-install ES?
ES is on the Kindle. I have copied the APK to the kindle and to the SDcard directory. When I am connected to the computer, my computer only has access to the sdcard directory. I can't even see the /system folder.
ES can see the folder, but can't write to it.

You still didn't answer my question. Do you have a connection with ADB? You were able to root it weren't you? You must have had an ADB connection at some point.
Sorry, Since I was trying to copy the file with out the device connected to the computer, I didn't think it mattered.
When connected to the computer, in device manager, it's Android Composite ADB Interface.
The Kindle shows up as a drive in Windows Explorer. At one point when I was doing the root, it did not show up as a drive.
If I can copy from my computer to the /system directory, that would be great, but since i don't have access to that through the computer, I was copying from the download directory on the Kindle to the /system directory on the Kindle.

You say you used the KFU to root...do you still have it available? Run it and see if it shows ADB ONLINE.
Yes, the ADB status is online when I run KFU. I also ran Super One Click and it said your device apears to be rooted.
I also installed the app, mount /system (rw/ro).
when I select mount rw, it says the system dir remounted with r/w permission.

Soooo...problem solved, right?
I wish it were that easy. Even though it says it's mounted in r/w mode, I can't get it to copy. Should I try and root it again? Could I have done something wrong? I used KFU and did root with superuser. Should I use Super One Click and unroot then try to root again? I don't remember any options for me to select wrong. Is there a PC tool that alllows you to copy directly to the /system directory? I really thought I was past the hard part. Thanks again for all the help.
Okay, since you have KFU and you have connection with ADB, press Shift then Right-click on the KFU "tools" folder and select "Open command window here". At the command prompt that opens up enter the following (omitting the comments in red, of course) ;
Code:
$ adb push /local/path/to/GoogleServicesFramework.apk /sdcard/ [COLOR=Red]<-- Replace "/local/path/to/..." with the location of GoogleServicesFramework.apk on your computer
[/COLOR]
$ adb shell
$ su [COLOR=Red]<-- If you receive an error here, you need to re-root
[/COLOR]~ # mount -o remount,rw ext4 /system [COLOR=Red]
[/COLOR]~ # mv /sdcard/GoogleServicesFramework.apk /system/app/GoogleServicesFramework.apk
~ # chmod 644 /system/app/GoogleServicesFramework.apk
~ # pm install -r /system/app/GoogleServicesFramework.apk
do the same for AccountAndSyncSettings and GoogleLoginService, reboot, then do the same for Vending.apk (I'm assuming you are trying to install the Market, right?)
Ok. I think I might see the issue. When I rooted the Kindle I did not have the apk copied to the device. It looks like there is a move command that copies the APK file from the SDcard to /sysstem/app folder. I think I need to put the apk in the proper place on the device and then un-root and then try and root it again.
Yes I am tyring to get the market running.
So you are saying there are 3 files that need to be copies? I have the file com.android.vending_3.8.15.apk, but I do not have AccountAndSyncSettings.
The more I read your reply, I'm less sure of myself. Before I root with KFU (or maybe super one click) do I need to have files copied to the Kindle? I guess I would have expected KFU to have these files, but OK if not included. Does KFU attempt to copy the framework file to the proper directory? If so, where does the files need to exist before starting?
I think your instructions here are a command line version of what I am trying to do with ES File Explorer. Is that true?

You need AccountAndSyncSettings. Are you using a tutorial for this? If so, which, one?
And yes, it is the command line version of what you're trying to accomplish with ES. It will give you more control and you'll be less likely to screw up.
Sure is rooted?
I recently back to stock firm to can check battery issues. I was using JB Hashcode very happy so far and was thinking go back again, but a short pass by the stock firmware was a really bad idea because got an update on the air (6.3.2) and lose my rooted status. I've used KFU again with no luck. Root explorer, droidwall says that i'm not rooted... So sad. Any ideas?

What does this have to do with the topic at hand?
Sorry for not getting back earlier. My weekend included getting hit by a deer. Really messed all my plans up.
I used the instructions here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1399889.
These screenshots show an option to install Google Apps, but I don't see that option when I run it. I guess I'm a little confused. Are there different instructions I should be following?

[Guide] AdAway for systemless hosts file

About the only reason I root my phone is to install AdAway. I'd prefer to not modify the system partition to help make OTA's easier to get and to allow Android Pay to work. AdAway has a flashable .zip file that preps the hosts file to use the systemless root structure that comes along with SuperSU. Unfortunately, that script depends on being able to access the /data partition inside of TWRP which isn't going to happen any time soon on the HTC 10. Fortunately, it is easy for us to manually replicate what the flashable .zip is trying to do.
This isn't a detailed how-to, but more of a set of guidelines. Don't blame me if your phone explodes.
Root the phone with the latest SuperSU.
Download the AdAway_systemless_hosts_v2.zip file from the Unofficial AdAway thread.
Extract the files from inside the zip. We are only interested in two files in the support folder.
Connect the phone to your PC and turn on file transfer mode.
Copy "hosts" and "0000adaway.script" that you just extracted to the internal storage of your phone.
Use a program file Root Explorer to move "hosts" into /su/etc and move "0000adaway.script" into /su/su.d (this probably could have been done with ADB push, but I got permission errors when I tried it that way and I'm impatient and lazy).
Chmod 0755 /su/su.d/0000adaway.script (I used a root shell on the phone via ADB)
Install AdAway (I used the link in the Unofficial AdAway thread.)
Reboot the phone.
Run AdAway like normal. By default it should use /system/etc/hosts which is what you want.
If something doesn't work, figure out why and fix it. I'm happy to answer questions to the best of my ability.
AdAway works without problems here, with simple press activate button.

Yes, but it modifies the /system partition unless you do the trick in OP. If I'm correct, you will have problems with OTA updates and Google Pay if you let AdAway directly modify the hosts file on /system.
Now that TWRP can access /data, can we just flash the zip?

Yes, you can. I downloaded that zip and apk from the Unofficial AdAway thread linked above. Booted into TWRP, flashed the newest betaSuperSU2.74-2-forceencrypt (not related to this, just so I'd be on the latest version), then the AdAway_systemless_hosts_v2.zip, rebooted and installed the apk and let it run. Rebooted. Showing hosts location as /system32/etc/hosts as the OP says is a good thing, and both files mentioned are in their correct places per Root Browser. [emoji106]

Sorry that it doesn't completely match the thread here but I think my question could fit in here anyway.
Do I suggest correctly that with systemless root, systemless AdAway and the stock recovery OTAs should be fully usable? Since there's no other modification to /system then.

I believe that is correct. There hasn't been a new OTA for my phone yet so I can't verify. However, when I do the check for new software it tells me no new updates (as opposed to the message about the files system being corrupt). I believe Android Pay should also work. I have it installed and added a new card, but I haven't tested making a purchase yet.
Thanks for the guide.
My device is rooted, but I didn't found su folder in anywhere when I use Root Explorer with root access, does anyone tell me how to get su folder and make AdAway work?

Your device may use su, & still not have an su folder (at all) that is used for hosts file (ie systemless root). Just do this..
Download... Terminal emulator.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jackpal.androidterm
Open terminal
Then enter these commands.. "Quote"
su
mount -orw,remount /system
rm /system/etc/hosts
ln -s /data/data/hosts /system/etc/hosts
mount -orw,remount /system
Now open AdAway go to preferences and select option to " Target hosts file"
Select /data/data/hosts
Enjoy..
If you still have ads in apps do this!!!
githyanki said:
Open the 3 dot menu in adaway, chose log DNS request. Enable TCP dump.
Open the app with ads, when ad loads, go back to adaway, and open log.
Long press any entries and chose black list.
Profit

How to install Gapps on Fire TV Stick 2 (tank) with Lineage OS already Installed

First things first, I'd like to give a shoutout to diegocr for making the test version of Lineage OS on tank devices! Before following this tutorial, your Fire TV Stick 2 needs to be unlocked and rooted before installing these mods.
{REQUIREMENTS}: A computer that has adb connections and/or an android phone with Termux commands to run adb, can be found here (simply copy and paste while following the tutorial): https://github.com/MasterDevX/Termux-ADB, you need to be connected to the same internet in order for the connecting to work properly, an already rooted tank that's unlocked, a Google Account Manager which needs to be installed for those who have issues signing into the Google Play Store along with a command you need to run to allow it to work, and a file which contains a PlayFire folder which you'll need to move on the root of the /0/sdcard directory.
Step 1: Download this version of Gapps its tvstock and the system partition has plenty of space available. Link: https://opengapps.org/
The platform needs to be arm, android version is 5.1, and the variant is tvstock.
Step 2: Now that you have Gapps downloaded, download this PlayFire folder along with Google Account Manager before even installing Gapps within TWRP (on the Fire TV Stick). Google Account Manager (Don't download the latest version or else you will get a parse error message due to incompatibility): https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/googl...unt-manager-5-1-1743759-android-apk-download/, PlayFire file w Folder (extract the file and put the PlayFire on the /sdcard directory): https://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=4205571&d=1499532978
Step 3: After downloading and putting the PlayFire folder on the root of your sdcard, reboot into TWRP and flash the Gapps zip file with tv stock and wait until its finished then reboot your Fire TV Stick 2. You'll notice that its going to optimize from 0 to 108, its completely normal since its implementing these system apps into your android system. Upon boot and everything, be sure to connect to the internet due to Lineage OS shutting off the wifi, then run these commands for the Google Play Store to work within terminal as root. What I mean by that is you need to connect to terminal as (adb connect 192.168.x.x), then add (adb shell, su), and finally copy and paste this given command and you're all set: sh /sdcard/PlayFire/LazyNoTouch.sh
Step 4: Everything should work beyond this point. If you're having difficulty with this guide, private message me and I'll send my TWRP backup for those who have no clue what to do.
So I haven't ever really looked into putting custom roms on my fire stick before so I had to look up what PlayFire was. I haven't had time to mod mine yet but I'm a little confused as to why PlayFire (not upgraded since 2017) would be needed if the LeanBack launcher is already on the rom, Is it just reinstalling it with all the xposed and HDXposed stuff it comes with?
Could you please post or message me your twrp backup I have tried everything and can not get it working tried many times. When I run the script nothing happens still can't use Google play or login to it. Followed the steps to the tee.
Worked without any issues! thanks!
Thank you very much @theflashfromthecw it work great, but do you have a patch for working mic search ?
---------- Post added at 05:04 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:43 PM ----------
The device is freezig after 3 minutes with the newest gapps and the linkes Google ACC manager. Any solutions ?
Try to install xposed-v87-sdk22-arm.zip with Xinstall and Downgrade option enabled before or adb install -d com.google.android.gsf.login_5.1-1743759-22_minAPI21(nodpi)_apkmirror.com.apk to downgrade if PlayStore update it afterward.
Is this still working? I have tried to get this working on FTV Tank running Lineage, but no luck with sign in..
Thanks!
update: I was able to get it working, I needed to enable developer options, and then root access because the script was not completing (needed for making changes to /system).
Thanks again for putting this together!

Hi.... Will this method work on pre-rooted stock image ROM?
Unable to sign-in
Hi. Thanks for this guide. I have completed as you have asked. The GAPPs is installed but I am unable to sign-in to the accounts. Please advice how to fix this.

You must run
sh /sdcard/PlayFire/LazyNoTouch.sh
no luck
Hi
I am not able to run the script, as I have created a folder called "sdcard" on the root of the internal storage and placed the PlayFire folder there. Furthermore, I used the "sh /sdcard/PlayFire/LazyNoTouch.sh" in ADB Shell, but no luck. Do we need to root Lineage OS before we use the script? If it is, can someone kindly show me a guide, how to root, as I have never done it before.

I used your suggested method without the root. It worked
If someone else wants to try this method. I did the following steps:
1. Flashed Gapps.
2. Downloaded the PlayFire (mentioned on the first page of the thread)
3. Did the unzip process and from the sub-folder (where different files exist) ran the terminal and the commands that @0815hoffi mentioned.
4. Did reboot system and when Lineage OS loaded, I manually ran the Google Account Manager (mentioned on the first page of the thread).
any advice on how to properly activate recommendations on leanback
everything else works

would this work with the latest lineage os..?
For me it has not works with the latest.
With
lineage-12.1-20200221-UNOFFICIAL-tank.zip
It has worked.
I Think MicroG support in latest is the Problem maybe.
Cant seem to download tvstock version for the gapps you mentioned. As soon as I select platform and android version.. the tvstock button gets disabled
seems like tvstock is available from android 6.0 onwards for arm platform.
Please help or point me to a compatible gapps zip
Cant find gapps for arm processor, Android 5.1 with tvstock variant. Any help would greatly be appreciated

Me too. Seems like opengapps doesn't have a mirror for that one anymore. I tried everything I could think of to search for it too, I even tried to build it from source and failed. But I kept reading every post I could and the best I could come up was finding this link:
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=8889791610682906163
from this post from @diegocr, who is the OP of this build of LOS 12.1 for tank:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/rom-unlocked-tank-lineageos-12-1.3961110/post-83220635
It works! Didn't have to mess with any scripts because I couldn't actually find the gapps .zip I needed for those anyway. It's already modified. I just had to reboot into TWRP and flash it.
I'm not sure what the actual tvstock would have had that this doesn't. It does seem stripped down, but that was what I was hoping for when I opened up the thing to short out CLK.
