Boomsound not working with soundcloud - HTC 10 Questions & Answers

Hey guys, was just wondering if boomsound supposed to effect Soundcloud at all, because whenever I switch on/off while playing a song on Soundcloud i don't notice any differences, unlike the google music app which you do hear a difference when switching modes. I am using the audio-technica ATH-ESW9A and the HTC 10 earphones.
thanks!

Correct. Just tested. With the Soundcloud app, Boomsound has no effect. If you use the browser version, it works.

I wonder why it's like that, I mean what's the differences between Soundcloud and spotify audio output wise? I just hope they will fix it in the future

Same goes for VLC media player (tried different video files, mostly avi's). No difference when switching boomsound mode. Maybe those apps use a different sound API or something like this, which cant be accessed by boomsound?

[Q] MP3 sound quality issue

It could just be my phone, but has anyone noticed their music sounding like it have really really small breaks in the sound, almost like the music is crackling? I've even found this when listening to my Sirius Satellite Radio app.
Though I may have found a fix, at least for the music. Originally my music was 320bit and i had just copied a few songs to my GN. When I started to listen to the music i would get crackling like sound or where the music would have almost a stuttering factor. Well i was getting annoyed enough with the crackling I almost went back to my MP3 player. Though I decided to try it one last time but i wanted my entire playlist. Now my playlist was about 200 songs and across many directories so I wasn't going to try search the whole thing for individual songs. Using winamp I copied them all into one directory, unfortunately when Winamp does this it converts them all back down to wav files so I had to reconvert them.
My software for converting back to MP3 is older and only able to convert up to 256bit. I was thinking it was going to be just as annoying, but low and behold my music plays without a glitch, or crackle or break or what ever.
It's almost like the phone can't handle the higher quality of music. Now again this could just be me so I thought I would ask. Unfortunately my Sirius Satellite Radio app still crackles.
Anyone else find this?
also if u have used an app like volume+ to increase your speaker volume, or modify your volume that could be the issue
Good thought, though i never actually got around to installing the app so we can eliminate that as a cause.
Oh no, lossy to lossy transcoding! Those poor files.
I haven't had any issues playing 320kbps MP3 CBR or MP3 V0. If anything they sound better than on my old iPhone 3GS, especially with DSPManager.
Do they play without any distortion on your PC? Are you using the same headphones?
Perhaps playing around with the equaliser settings in DSPManager would improve the output.
Have had the same problem but only with one album so far, it is 320bit but I also have other albums at 320bits that play ok. Strangely the problem doesn't occur if the screen is on!
Give me to this weekend and let me hoot the phone up to my input on my PC maybe i can let you all hear what I hear.

I would agree too if I had actually installed volume+
I don't think it's to do with the bit rate as such but the encoder, or at least the encoding settings, that you used. Almost all my mp3 are in 320 kbps, CBR and VBR, and they all play fine.

the phone seems to clip a lot when the volume is at the top two levels. sounds bad. setting it to 3rd highest level or less makes it sound normal and smooth
Not sure if they fixed this with 4.0.3 yet, but it's a known issue that any SAMPLE RATE (not bit rate) other than 44.1KHz can cause stuttering when the phone is in screen-off low power mode. Some EQs that cause the cpu to work have been known to fix it. Also changing the buffer size in PowerAmp has also I think. There are a few threads about it. I have recreated it with another persons 48KHz sample rate mp3. All mine are 44.1KHz and I've never had a problem with any of them, they all sound fantastic.

[Q] Beside stock music player which one should I choose?

Hi folks,
I'm interested at using a different music player since the stock music player doesn't give me much in terms of features.
I've had PowerAMP (Paid) problem with is that every time I get an SMS message the music cuts out to play the sounds in my headphone and then the music blares out on the out speaker and then once the inbound sms sound is done it's plays back into the headphones.
I've had DoubleTwist similar type of problem but not as bad and unless you paid attention you wouldn't notice. BUT it's a huge memory HOG while running and playing music is eats about 55mb in the memory and I can't send the APP to SD.
What other alternatives do I have? I was considering PlayerPro but I really am trying not to have to pay for an APP.
I was looking at Winamp which I love but I would need their PRO version which again is a bummer cause I really am trying not to buy it.
Any suggestion?
Cheers.

Nice. Well after running for a while I was happy to see that cpu usage and memory usage weren't crazy. Nice app.

TTPod. Unfortunately the latest version is Chinese only, but someone has made an unofficial translation. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1551201
On a sidenote: does anyone know a musicplayer that supports lockscreen controls on ICS, besides the stock player? I tried Cloudskipper, ZPlayer, ÜberMusic, WinAmp, Poweramp, the MIUI player and TTPod, but none supports it afaik.
I like MIUI's music player. I think it's available to non-MIUI users. Just google it.

Have you gone through all the settings in PowerAMP? There are several pages of settings for how notifications work while music is playing, how headphones work with music/notifications/plugin/etc, and more. Pretty sure that you can configure things the way you want if you spend some time in the settings pages.
PowerAMP 2.x is working great on my Xperia Pro (MK16a), with just the slightest dimming of the music to play are very dim notification alert, and then going back to normal volume, without interrupting the music nor changing which speakers the music comes out of.
Pheonix,
I've been through all the options in PowerAMP each time a notification will come on while music is playing (depending on the settings) it's on. Music will either fade or cut out. The notification will play but the MUSIC will resume on the external speaker for about 3seconds before switching back to Internal.
It's been doing that ever since I got it and with every music playing I've tried. I'm running on stock .62 rooted and there's no customization that's been done.
Now I've actually loaded the MIUI Music player back on my phone and actually that solved my problem. So this leads me in the direction that some of the music player interfere to an extent with the notification/speaker process.
Cheers.
Actually, I just noticed this issue last night while listening to music and getting texts from the wife. This didn't happen before.
I'm fairly certain that it's a new bug, as the 1.x versions never had this problem, and the early 2.0.x versions didn't either.
I'll go through my backups and see if I can find a version that doesn't have this issue.
Have you reported this to the PowerAMP devs?
Have you tired UBERMUSIC..?????
Its awsome....!!!!!

Audio stutter/spots with beats enabled

Hi folks,
I've noticed today when listening to music on spotify or Google music that every 20 or so there's a little stutter with my music, like a small gap of silence when the beats audio is enabled. Very minimal, like 0.5 of a second silence. Disabled everything is fine. I've tried different headphones as well as a speaker dock and it's the same.
Anyone else encountered this?
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
I got the same thing
Only happens when beats is enabled, only the music app is running and the screen is off.
When you disable beats, poof problem goes away!
My guess is that the fifth companion core doesnt handle the beats software well. The beats equalizer probably isnt written all too well for it and causes it to stutter.
My solution so far is to disable beats (as stupid as that is for a beats enabled device) and wait for a software update in the future.
Also worth mentioning, it seems to happen alot more with apps not optimized for ICS like spotify (which is buggy as it is).

I am having the same issue. It's extremely annoying. I would like to use Beats because it's a feature of the phone but I can't put up with the annoying stutters.
Or I can't hear it, or I don't have this issue...
Seems some issue there mentioned and known already.....

yup.. i have the same thing too!
Also my audio stutters when taking hdr photos as well I noticed now. 5 cores and it can't multi task!

3G is the cause
I also having this issue, and it only occurs when i have beats audio enabled, playing internet radio through 3G in sleep mode. When i try it with wifi (beats audio enabled, sleepmode)instead of 3G than there is no stutter/skipping.
3G internet radio with beats disabled is also stutter free.
Edit: It seems that internet radio puts more stress on the cores with wifi enabled so that it won't switch to such low clocks that the audio is stuttering
I've noticed one "pop" about twenty seconds after I turn the screen off, when Beats is on and playing music using the stock app. Best guess is that it's the transfer from main cores to the companion that causes it. It only happens the one time per screen off.
I get that problem too but listen without beats now which cures it. No loss as well because initially beats on sounded good. More bass, more treble.
But after a bit, it sounded harsh and unnatural. I can get the same effect with beats off by just upping the volume without it getting annoying after a few mins.
So I listen to Spotify with beats off...
Same issue for me too, through both wired headphones and bluetooth and with both the stock music player and GoneMAD music player. Sound was dropping constantly.
Turning off beats and I've had very few glitches.
The fix is to. While you listen to Spotify, settings, sound, sound improvment, change headphone type to Beats PRO. Then there is no stuttering. :-D

Indeed, it works !
for me, it only stutters with the screen off, beats enabled, and if the track playing is in the FLAC format. Must be something to do with the extra processing power needed for that + the beats audio - something that the companion core doesnt handle very well.

hmm could be indeed, since i have only played FLAC or internetradio while experiencing the issues (have not tried MP3 since i have my One X).
But with the beats audio set on Beats Pro headset(like mentioned above) does resolve the stuttering, even with FLAC files
my audio stutters occasionally when playing through the HTC Music app with or without Beats enabled. Very frustrating.
Hmm seems like a solution:

It seems that the stutter is fixed in ROMeOS 1.1.4

All,
Just a quick FYI - had the stutter and skip issues myself - fixed them all by downloading 3rd party apps from the store - so far no issues, using mobo player for video and n7player for music...both free (but I think n7player is in beta and plans to license it) and both do better than the HTC default apps.

[BUG] Samsung stock music player

Hello, anyone have this problem? Im using stock dll7 firmware and stock music player equalizer sometimes resets to default. Furthermore, randomly music hangs for second or less.

I don't think thats a bug. The equalizer will reset to normal if u detach the earphones, as it works only with earphones (i.e with 3.5mm audio jack).
About skipping/ stuttering music, i've not had this problem except when playing via bluetooth.

Yes, it should if each time you use the audio jack (or bluetooth?) for listening to music (i.e attach headphones & then run the music player). But if you set an equalizer (say rock), then detach headphones & play music via phone inbuilt speakers, then equalizer resets itself to normal. Also, if u set it to rock even without headphones and then end the app, it would reset to normal when played again. I've noticed this on all stock samsung roms so far (currently on latest 4.1.2 India XXDLL4).

Oh ok. That really seems buggy music player for you! Anyway, try clearing data/ cache of music player & musicFX app using application manager followed by a reboot. Ignore, if you already did that.

General Audio driver problems

So wanted to comment on this
First, this is the best phone I’ve ever owned, although its lacking in a couple of things i was used to (coming from a oneplus 9 that had a lot of settings compared to this one, still this is a waaaay better phone) the speed, screen size and battery life makes it all worth it
Though! I use a lot of external dacs through the usb c connector (main reason to have a big battery)
I’m finding some issues in the audio department:
Tidal mqa files are not being played if the dac doesnt have mqa decoding (normally they would play without issues in iPadOS and one ui/ oxygen os
Some dacs (specially ifi hifi link) will not play files until a mqa file is played, though any system sound will interrupt the communication with the dac, it can be fixed played any master quality track and then going back to flac/ hifi quality in tidal, YouTube doesn’t work at all with this dac.
Facebook and YouTube wont play audio sometimes,my theory is that the player goes for the oem 3.5 out instead of the dac. That could be fixed if we got an audio output selector in the notifications player, though the option is not available as the player plays as a simplified notification, so no audio selection is possible
Of course the 3.5 jack in this is quite nice but … usb c dacs are a bit better at handling hi res files and streaming and of course demanding headphones.
Sent already this to nubia. Hopefully there will be a work around, UAPP is a viable solution of course but the easiness to surf through playlists is better in the tidal app.
So anyway, anyone surfing for an answer: its in the developers hands
Just wanted to leave this in case anyone looking in the internet is looking for answers on this
No audio switch app works on android 13 (lesser audio switch, etc)
Although there’s work around for using the external dacs, it comes as a surprise the first times. Though the phone is a beast and i truly love the battery life and extended display, a couple of tweaks and this would be the best phone out there
Kinda figure it out. The DTS ultra app was the culprit, even if it showed the toggle off, it was turning on (and screwing the sound for me) , just disabled the "auto start" or link button on the app preferences. all audio is being processed by the external dac. At least YouTube and fb are working flawlessly so far
Update: Some dacs are still having issues with the mqa decoder, but the general audio is coming out of the usb c port at least.

Hi there. I had the same problem. But I was able to access my DTS Ultra app. It doesn't appear in my app drawer but I found the audio effects app for DTS Ultra using Activitylauncher from play store.
I could be wrong but I also noticed there is no way to EQ the speakers on the phone. The DTS Ultra app only shows up for headphones and gives the "Disconnect External Devices" error on speakers. I find the speakers to be good quality but slightly lacking in tuning, is there any way to perhaps tune them through 3rd party means? Thanks for the help.
