S-OFF ? Alternative to "Sun-Shine" - HTC 10 Questions & Answers

Hi guys...
Is there any way rather than Sun-Shine method to achieve S-OFF on HTC 10?
I have a WWE 10 with .401 ROM
I'v unlocked my 10 through HTC-DEV site and go rooted.
Regards.

Nope, pretty much the only way these days

You don't need soff if you have a wwe device, it's useful for locked branded 10 to get wwe roms. You can get OTA if you follow captain throwback tutorial

S-OFF is needed if I brick my device and want to downgrade or run lower version of RUU
Thank you.

I remember back in the M7 M8 days using a terminal and root to S-OFF with some other free program

there is no other method available at this juncture, Java cards havent been "leaked", XTC clip2 hasnt been updated for the 10, and the creators of rumrunner, moonshine, sunshine etc... are the same folks. Good people too. they are currently taking in verizon HTC 10 devices via mail in, as it is the only way for us at this point.

World Wide Edition
No, s-off can be beneficial to anyone whose carriers are bad about releasing firmware updates. But it's not necessary for anyone to have s-off. You just could be a little more limited in your rom options and you can't flash a radio from another region or customize your splash screen (the black screen with white HTC lettering.

Thanks for the info.
The last time I flashed a ROM was way back when I had my M7 and I've pretty much forgotten how to do it. I'm looking at Leedroid but I can't seem to find instructions on how to root/flash. I'm not allowed to post a link to an external site but if you google "graphic city leedroid" it will show up as the 1st result.

WWE is world wide edition.
If your in the US you should flashed the US unlocked RUU if you want faster updates than a carrier version of the phone.
SOFF means you can flash full firmware and software RUU for any region.

The s5 was never in the cards with me.
I see no reason that we won't have an exploit available pretty quickly. If nothing else, you can do the official HTC unlock now and wait for S-OFF later so you can cover your tracks.

Me neither. Until KNOX is either optional or gone altogether, Samsung will never get my business again. I refuse to support a company so openly anti-developer.

Hopefully your right and it will be htc dev unlockable from day 1. I doubt it being at&t.

With at&t its hard to tell but the One was HTC Dev unlockable on at&t at launch I thought?
This is why I'm glad I have T-Mobile. Besides the Sony phones (which T-Mobile likely doesn't even ask Sony to lock the bootloader but Sony chooses to do it themselves), T-Mobile is very cool about rooting and custom ROMs. Hell EVERY person at the T-Mobile store we go to has their **** rooted and they have no problem saying it! If an at&t employee did that, guaranteed there would be a job opening.

Original HTC One bootloader unlock was available on day 1 then vanished. I think there are other exploits. I have unlocked the bootloader of almost every Android device I've ever owned (except my Nexus 7 FHD). I *dont* intend on doing that with my M8 unless and until the promised support and updates doesn't materialize. In the best of all possible worlds, someone will come up with a temporary root method so I can at least run Titanium backup.

Not completely correct, if you want ROMs you just need an unlocked bootloader and a recovery which you can get without S-OFF too...
S-OFF (Security-OFF) = much more control of the entire phone (you can do pretty much everything if you're able to do it)
if you have enough time to spend then read this perfect in depth explanation

I have tried lots of Android 6.0 based ROMs available right now ( maximusHD, Viper,CM Nightly, etc..) but non of them really worked. My phone is on 2.x.xx.x firmware and running maximusHD 6.0. Please help !!!
You need to upgrade your firmware. MM roms won't run on 2.xx firmware. This has been discussed about eighty bajillion times.

Sunshine alternative for S-Off ??? (Moonshine.io)

Hey guys,
I have a Taiwanese HTC 10 and wanted to install Nougat on it. It didn't work even with Bootloader unlocked and re-locked from Htcdev.com .
In the forums here i read, that you need to have to transform to the US version. And to do that you need S-Off (please correct me if I'm wrong).
While i was looking for Sunshine alternatives that are free and i found Moonshine (moonshine.io).
My question is if this can be trusted and really S-offs your device.
The 25$ for Sunshine won't be a problem if it really works and i can transform to US and install any RUU Rom for Nougat (official of course).
What have your experiences been with TW 10s?
The only option to s-off the device is Sunshine. Moonshine doesn't work anymore on any device.
Thanks for the quick reply.
Will the To to us to nougat thing work?
I don't want to spend the money for nothing.

yes, sunshine is great and simple, it works.
Mine is a taiwanese also, but i don't recommend changing, when i did it made my lte/3g signal worse, i almost can't use it on cellular networks, i'd rather wait for update.

I followed the Guide for debranding. I converted usind RUU (2.method) and did everything till step 8. Step 9 had to be done from the phone.
The problem is that I'm still getting Error 155 in RUU for flashing 2.28..... and 2.38....
The phone is S-Off, Unlocked and has 1.95.401.3 instead of 1.96.something (Hongkong). CID is BS_US001 and MID is 2PS620000
Any solutions?

If you're trying to install U.S Unlocked ruu then you need to have unlocked cid and mid. Right now you're using U.S cid but your mid is wwe.
If you're trying to flash a US RUU, the MID needs to be 2PS65000, NOT 2PS62000

How to S-OFF for free on Nougat?

Hello,
I'm currently trying to find out how to install a rom matching to my region. I understand that I need S-OFF for that.
Sadly, I cannot find out how to make s-off. All I hear, even in those threads here, is advertisement for an app where you actually pay for a developer functionality (Sunshine). I also tried rumrunner, but that didnt work either.
It was rumrunner 0.5 on my M9 with Version 4.30.617.2. My current cid is: BS_US002
There is no other way to S-OFF your phone unless Sunshine.
I had to do it too.
Yeah it cost money but its really easy.
As stated, no way. You have 3 options, all will cost.
1. Sunshine app.
2. XTClip. (I think thats the name?).
3. Take it to a phone repair shop.
Otherwise, no free way. Sunshine app is worth paying for as it walks you through the process. If you have any problems they (the devs) will help you sort it out. Your money goes to paying staff for the hard work they do finding exploits to give us, the common everyday users, a little bit of freedom from these ever increasingly over-zealous corporations who will do anything to put us in a box and feed us crumbs so we do what they want so they can monitise us.
Beamed in by telepathy.
Like in many, many other threads, YOU CANNOT get sunshine for free. To be honest it even isn't that expensive. It is worth it as the app is so simple. The devs that created it have bricked a lot of m9's in the process of getting s-off for us.
Anyway, u still can't use sunshine on nougat. Use this thread (https://forum.xda-developers.com/on...one-m9-nougat-downgrade-s-off-t3554665/page2)
to help u to downgrade to marshmallow and run sunshine.
Hope this helps,
Jev

Only temp-root isn't supported on nougat. But that's not a big deal since you can just unlock the bootloader and flash SuperSU or Magisk via TWRP.

HTC M9
Hello every one, I'm new in HTC, I tried to install a new rom on my HTC M9 (stuck in bootloop) but it's not working, I've tried factory reset, many roms, I read almost all posts on the net (blogs) without success.
Model : HTC_HIMAUHL
Build : 3.35.401.12
CID : HTC__247
HBoot : 1.0.0.0000
MID : 0PJA10000
Security : CURITY FAILED (REMOTE: UNKNOWN COMMAND)
Region : HTC-FRA-Bouygues
I tried to set my phone S-off without success as well, unfortunately I have no way to pay sunshine for that, I live in a third world country.
please could you help, and thx in davance.
Please read the ReadMe thread. The RUU section of that thread contains everything you need for recovering your phone.
There still is no free S-OFF method and chances are high that there never will be one.
Just a friendly advice: I'd delete my IMEI from my post if I were you. Others can use it for scam.

That's not possible. HTCdev can only be used for unlocking the bootloader since HTC doesn't want users to get S-OFF on their devices. They definitely won't provide a way to get S-OFF. Chances are high that the device was already set S-OFF by a previous owner.
Firewater isn't compatible with the M9, btw. I haven't heard about chimera tool, though.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it doesn't really matter. My understanding was the hardware is all the same (among GSM units), the only difference is in software for regions, and that's easily changed by unlocking the bootloader and changing MID via ADB.

No worries, bootloader unlocking only allows you to flash TWRP/root/roms/etc as far as I know. For anything more than that, like mid/cid changes firmware flashing, you need S-off.
