15% battery and phone is "dead" - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I have a problem with... When battery drops down to 15, my phone turns off, and 46 six aps are being optimized. I'm not alone with this problem, my friend with HTC... has the same. Any solutions?
And now "com.google.process.gapps has been stopped and i must do hard reset.
Help guys.

Do you have a custom rom?

I have the same problem, and im on a custom ROM! So annoying

Yea me too. I guess it's my fault or something like this. Sometimes phone can handle 4%, sometimes it'll dead at 11% and so on.

The battery meter isn't that accurate, its just an estimation based on the battery voltage versus how you use your phone (and the resulting "typical" battery drain). You shouldn't expect it to be accurate to the being within the 1-2 (or even 5) percent range. Shutting off at 4 to 11% is not unusual, and not surprising.
You shouldn't be draining your battery down that low on a regular basis. Its bad for long term battery life. Good rule of thumb for Li ion batteries is short and frequent charge cycles.
However, optimizing apps and/or google process stopped after a shutdown (due to low battery) is not normal. That's a different matter.

I have this problem, plus some of my settings get reset such as my wallpaper, ringtone, notification tone, boomsound (off to on), screen timeout, screen brightness, whatsapp (keeps asking me to chose my backup options and no messages come through until then). This has never happened before and I'm not sure why it's only happening now. I'm not purposely trying to drain the battery or anything, it's just that sometimes on the road I am unable to charge it and it'll just die out midway when previously, that extra 15% could've lasted me for another 30 minutes, just enough for me to reach my destination.

The same problem.. But the bigger problem for me, it's reseting my settings..

It is a terrible problem , I return to KitKat and my battery reaches 1% , and so normal ... I'll make a test with lollipop .

Yes, same problem! So glad someone made a thread for it. It's frustrating and happens literally every time.
Experienced on both the stock and a custom rom. Any one knows any fixes? Is it because of the 'battery life reduces over time' thing? My phone is 2 years old now

That seems to be a problem with all htc ones (m7, m8, m9) as they get older, dont worry its normal

ive been experiencing this for a while, clear dalvik cache and let android do the whole rebuilding thing at the start and you should be fine...as for the battery fix ive just learnt to live with it, 15% is the new 2%!!!

I'm on this problem since a lot of time, as i was one of the first in the community to report it.
Seems like an end-of-life issue for one m8 and htc one phones line.
In my case i had a camera and charge board issue too, so in rma htc changed them, and now the phone is charging and quick-charging like it must have to. But i have to be careful when near 15% of battery because using camera, flashlight or others power-expensive features instantly turns the phone off, causing a database mismatch on the next boot (for marshmallow) and consequently the loss of data.
If the instant-poweroff occurs during boot, there is a massive loss of data and a lot of force closes on the next boot.
Nothing to do here i think, sadly.

In kitkat and lollipop battery reach at 1% ...

I have a fix for this as it happened to me and I tried a battery calibration app from the app store... I thought what your thinking now but after finding bad sectors and "repairing" it did actually work

solve the problem of battery and loss of settings , change the battery of my htc, now everything is fine , 3 days that the battery is discharged properly , I hope this information will help someone.

thats kinda "cool" to see many people have same problem as i do. atleast it wont run u crazy as before
1. sometimes phone dies when battery is 15%, and sometimes it dies when around 4% 2% or even 1%
2.resetting settings after phone dies!
so is the solution, to change battery? any better way that doesnt need to spend money?

Replace battery
how did you do this? does this actually work?

Yes I've done this a couple of weeks back. The replacement is actually less hard as it seems.
But finding an original replacement battery seems to be pretty hard - Even though the replacement I bought is HTC branded and looks genuine, I feel like it's actually draining a little faster than my old original. 12€ Ebay had too good to be true.
However the instant-shutoffs are now a thing of the past along with the database corruption, so I'm going to have to live with a little less battery life.
Or does anyone know of a provider for genuine batteries?

[Q] Desire shuts down at 10% ?

I am running AuraxSense 8.2 with the latest changed sense kernel.
For somehow my Desire always shuts down around 10%, it's crazy! I tried resetting the battery stats, the charge/discharge cycle, with phone on and off. But this al didnt work.
When my phone says it has around 10% left it does not take long before it shuts down. When I put it to a charger and boot it up, it says it's 0% battery left, thats strange because it was around 10% when it shut down.
I also dont see it going to 1,2,3,4,5,6,7% .. it starts giving a value around 9 or 10. Does anybody have a clue whats going in ?
Its really annoying and been looking into it for several weeks, but havent found an answer.
i've ran nothing but LeeDrOiD roms on my Desire, and always found this, never seen anything below 10% on my phone either :/
My best guess is the phone follow the voltage instead of percentage, as my phone shut down from around 4-10%. And whenever it shut down it has the same voltage
+1
if something (music, browser, game etc.) is active, then it shuts down even around 14,16% but normally between 9 and 12. Have never seen 5 - 6 thus far.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Yep, I have this issue too.
It's always at 10% when it shuts down though.
I'm running leedroid 2.3
Hmmm... It is (not) good to know, that I am not the only one. On the other hand, it is a bad thing.
Because I want a percentage meter that is accurate.
How is this possible anybody got some ideas? I think this is REAL lame.
Yeah, I also have (had) this issue for Cyanogenmod 6.1.x and Gingerbread roms. It's been a while since I used any sense-based rom but I swear it didn't happen then.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Does anybody have found a solution for this?
On a Dutch forum people are also recognizing this problem. Some say that they don't have this with a new (gingerbread) rom.
FWIW I have a stock Vodafone Desire on 2.2 and it behaves in exactly the same way as you are all describing. If you guys with custom roms etc etc (I have yet to venture there) have the same problem then it doesn't sound like an Android issue?
Well, perhaps it is a Sense issue ?
I have a LeeDrOiD ROM and don't have the issue. I can clearly see 6%, 2%, even 1%. But when battery drops below 6% it is just a matter of minutes when the phone will shut down.
Did you try and calibrate your battery?
Do you have wi-fi, BT, 3G turned ON all the time or you turn it on when needed?
All this can greatly influence your battery.
I have Leedroid 2.3c and my phone shuts down at 10%.
I use really low power settings when my battery comes below 15 eprcent.
very low brightness, no bluethooth etc.
So it is something else.
Do you guys know that li-ion batteries don't have a linear voltage drop while discharging?
Look at this graph, as you can see the voltage drops very quickly when it's almost empty:

Nee, no i did not know that. But it still does not solve anything.
Had this problem even whilst on stock rom before rooting. I've found that if I charge the phone overnight whilst it's off, the battery seems to run down to zero properly rather than shutting down at 10%.
Anyone else tried this?
My battery starts to drop faster at the end but i still se the percentage all the way down to 0 before it shuts down.
I also have this problem now for a while.
When on stock Eclair at launch date I didn't have this problem but I noticed it after changing to Open Desire and still have it on Lee Droid too.
Usually 14-15% for me.
Didn't calibrate it as it appears it'll make it worse in quite a few cases.
i have the same problem mine shuts down at 8% use to shutdown at 13%, rang htc they said the software on the phone is giving the wrong reading for the battery and to charge it switched off for 8 hours, well i did and it now shuts at 8%. im on leedroid 2.2f.
Actually this may well be a case of protect the battery syndrome . Basicly Lithium ion batteries were never made to be run right out of juice if they do it can harm the battery and even stop it from charging all together - Yes i have a phone here (not a desire) with a dead li-ion battery from letting it run all the way down to 0% now it won't charge and the only way to get it going again (if i'm lucky) is to "bump start" it with another battery.
Now i don't know about you guys but i would rather my phone turn off at 10% and charge ok than have dead batteries at 0% just my 2 cents

Battery dead overnight.

So, I had about 50% juice when I went to bed last night. Woke up to see phone dead. Had to plug in charger to start it as battery was fully drained.
So what causes such sudden battery drop?

It seriously looks like some apps have been doing some heavy tasks while youre sleeping..
Check with your nearest dealer. Then contact samsung if you think your battery is faulty
Battery doesnt seem faulty at such an early stage.
Best solution. Download BetterBatteryStats and check out what is draining your battery
Its the solution i would do with myself

I dont even have much apps installed yet. & battery life so far was really good until this morning. Seems quite stange. Has it happened to anyone else?
I don't think that could have been any apps to deplete the battery that quickly. I mean, that literally did a nose dive. Ever heard of Ghosts?!? DunDunDunnnnn
Does battery reset itself somehow?
Yes, an app or some apps drained your battery No other solution possible mate . As mentioned before install BetterBattery Stats and cpu spy and check for unusal app behavior.
The thing that surprises me is that on the steep drop, the green border-line is missing. It doesn't look like drain; it looks more a short circuit...
Its actually not a drain. Its a sudden cut off.

In your case, don't bother with better battery stats or any other that other crap people are suggesting. I don't think the majority of the people who read your post bothered to look at the attached image (or didn't understand it.)
During the time that your battery dropped off, android wasn't even active (as no battery stats were logged.) That drop-off looks to me like some type of system crash or something rebooted your phone into recovery (or download) mode and left it there until the battery died (causing a power down.)
I can't tell you WHY that happened, but I can't think of anything "normal" that would cause it. I used to see something similar when I was doing kernel work on a specific samsung tablet if the user had one of the so-called supercharger scripts installed. In that case, the kernel would panic (wifi bug) and the script had re-written the kernel parameters to cause an infinite loop instead of letting the kernel panic reboot the device. The result was that the device would get warm and drain the battery until there was no more power.
Recovery meant charging the device first and upon finally getting it to boot, the battery page would look similar to yours.
Another possibility is that your phone hit what it THOUGHT it was around 46%, but the battery stopped giving juice.
In your shoes, I'd do something I usually tell other people never to do: Purposely run your battery down below 40% to make sure the same thing doesn't happen. (If it does, consider restoring your phone to stock, testing again, and possibily calling Samsung.)
Good luck

OP, I've been having the same problem. My phone will randomly shut down usually while web browsing (Dolphin HD) usually on a mobile network connection (3G or 4G). How it normally goes is I will be browsing and then the phone will shut down to a blank screen, no shutdown animation, like somebody pulled the battery. When I re-boot the phone will usually do a hard shutdown again shortly after booting up (15-30 seconds). The battery level will be different upon re-boot (eg. 95% -> 40% -> 1% -> 30%). Sometimes the screen will briefly flash a low battery warning (1 second or so) before doing a hard shutdown.
My phone is 1 year old, not rooted, Android 4.0.4, Baseband S710.10 S.FI27.
Recently took the phone to a Sprint service location they could not replicate the problem, but tested the battery and did a factory reset. The problem persists after the factory reset.
Attached are screenshots of my battery graph following a series of re-boots.

Bump!! I'm sorry, but I'm having this issue too. My phone is a year old and is pretty much doing the same thing. Tried different ROMs. I'm running the Full Restore FI03 Rooted ROM right now and still doing this. My issue is more crucial. My phone doesn't sleep well, dies in like 6 hours max.
It will randomly force shutdown and won't turn on. It will try and reboot, the screen will flicker and just shut off. The only way I can get the phone to turn back on is by plugging it into a charger.
Luckily I have a portable charger. I wonder if this is a battery issue. Anybody tried using a different battery.
My wife had similar symptoms... flickering screen and shuts down. no animation or warning.. ahd to plug it in to boot the phone again... battery would show 90%, then 15% after a reboot... her battery only lasts half the day, ect.... turns out it was her battery going bad. I bought her Anker batteries on amazon (2 batteries plus charger $18) and it hasn't happened ever since. Its been over a week now since she's been on the new battery.
trust me, just get a new battery, you'll enjoy the better battery life too. its typical to swap the batteries every 8-10 months.

3 times last week, worse since last update few days ago.
Mine needs charging every day, no point having it, if you turn all the features off to extend the battery
Sent from my E6653 using Tapatalk
I get 2.5 days battery life on average. Had sudden drain twice since I have it. That's OK with me considering a recharge is done in under an hour and the watch is far less important than my phone.
In my experience with smartwatches like smartphones or any other computer it is helpful to reboot it once in a while. I do that after every two or three charge cycles.
There are so many factors that play into battery life or that might even drain the battery. As far as I can see there doesn't seem to be a specific thing that can be held responsible for the bad experience some people have with the sw3. I don't think there is anything wrong with the watch just bad luck and an unfortunate combination of circumstances for some users.

I also get 2.5 days on average, anyway sw3 is about to get Android wear 1.4(Android 6.0) and possibly all battery problems will be gone.
I have : SW3, LG-G, LG-R and a Gear2 with Wear Mode. SW3 is the only wich can drain battery from 50% to 4% in 2H. Exactly same app and same use case for the 4 watch.
drain issue hasn't been fixed, but a workaround I do that seems to stabilize it is to restart after charging. Haven't had a bad drain since.

I got mine on Friday, and was ready to send it back to Amazon by Sunday because of the battery drain,
However, after reading the posts on here about restarting after a full charge, it does seem better. It's still a problem that need fixing, but this workaround certainly helps.
i have no sudden drain problem at all, i get about 2,5 days with average use. I'm running latest stock unmodified LCA43 firmware
No drain here. Easy 2 days of battery per charge
I don't think it is an issue anymore.
Mine hasn't drained for a while but it did today. Went from about 50% to 10% in about an hour or two. ?
Had also the battery drain in the beginning (bought it maybe 10 month ago). Restarting after fully recharged helped...till yesterday. I've the same behaviour like user dersie & Sparksltd, suddenly it drops from 50% to 0 within 2h again.

It's definitely still a problem for me - seems that unless I do a restart after charging I get the drain issue after every third charge and the watch goes from 100% to dead in about 7 hours whereas on a 'normal' day I would expect to use around 40% in an entire day which equates to the 2.5 days use some users are reporting.

I did get a big drain back in December of 2015 along with everyone else, but looking back I think that drain was (or may have been) caused by the OTA update of the Android Wear OS - not the old drain issue. And except for that I haven't had one in months. I am very sorry to see that you and so many other SWR50 owners are still having problems with this.
Bought this watch two weeks ago and it's rock solid. No drain at all, it easily lasts for 2 days of usage.
I tend to switch mine off over night, I have noticed that from time to time despite being switched off it drains the battery. Has anyone got same issue ?

No it is a random issue and we never know why ???
After 2 days without map I have no issue. No enough time to know if it is related but I have good hope of the issue is related to "Google map"

It's happening more or less the same on my H815. I've tried everything so far: plane mode or not, different roms stock or not, 5.1 and 6.0, dozens of factory resets, even a brand new battery, it's exactly the same everywhere. Phone will suck around 10% per hour even when freshly formated and untouched, even on plane mode. And any application informing of battery stats won't point at anything as the culprit, it's like the battery capacity is suddenly a 10% of what it should be but will still take 1:30h to fully charge. I haven't RMA'd it yet because mine has the bootloader unlocked but I might if it doesn't fix itself soon. What serial is yours? Mine is a 508.
Hopefully, living in Europe means they won't reject the warranty for an unlocked bootloader as it's obviously a hardware problem.

Been there, done that. No matter if I'm using a freshly factory reset stock ROM with all radios activated or a fully modded, debloated, greenefied and amplified CM installation on plane mode. Battery will still deplete at 10% hour with no culprit in battery stats (top one will be Screen with something like 30 minutes on and 100mAh used)

Thanks, I'll try. Even though Better Battery Stats does more or less the same and showed absolutely nothing (wakelocks et all) draining the battery.
That tool has a lot more granularity maybe it might reveal some more clues. Same goes for the OP.
let us know how it goes.

CM you get what you get...try Genisys
Does the phone get warm while this is happening?
the way I see it, you either 1) have crappy battery, and phone is normal so doesn't suck down lots of electricity and doesn't get warm, or 2) have fine battery, and phone is acting weird and sucking down all your energy.
If you are situation 2), then you would feel the phone get very warm to use that much energy so fast. If your phone is cool during all this time, then it's not using much energy to be able to stay cool, so you know your battery is having a problem.
maybe try cutting a hole in your pocket and put your phone against your thigh to really feel whether it's too warm.
