Es file explorer issue , - OnePlus 3 Questions & Answers

On my op3 , I get an error when I try to use it for root explorer
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks .
I tried reinstall the app as well as super su.
No luck

is your phone rooted?

Same here. Use an older version of ES File Explorer. It works

Did the spyware scandal not put you off using es ?

What scandal?

Es products where sending info to a server in China, TBH the addition of crap I didn't want had put me off before then.

I'm currently using Fx Explorer

Cool thanks! I just remembered, I used to use Total Commander as well. Giving that and Fx Explorer a try!

just like ghostofcain, I use fx (with plus package). Perfect for me (even if there could be more clouds available tho).

Solid Explorer is awesome, too!

the same exact issue i encounter with my nexus 6.. not allowing me to select the root option.. workaround is to use solid explorer

Here u go this works, u may have to re flash su if it does not work after reboot
Download terminal and then enter the following
Attention!!!!! May break Android pay
su
mount -o remount,rw /system
touch /sbin/su
touch /system/bin/su
touch /system/xbin/su
mount -o remount,ro /system
exit
reboot

Doesn't work on my device.
The rw remount command is accepted without error message; but when I input "touch /sbin/su", an error comes up which says that the file system is read-only.

same to me

Simply use another root explorer app for access to system files.

Read Only File System when removing apps

I am trying to remove some apps I dont use or want like the mail app and others and I know i have nand protection unlocked becasue I can run nand backup and restore. But when i run adb shell and rm Mail.apk i get message of rm failed for Mail.apk, read only file system. I am a noob with adb but is it possible i dont have nand unlocked?
Being able to NAND backup and restore doesn't have anything to do with having NAND unlocked.
You obviously don't have full root.
download or find (please pay for it on the market)
root explorer, run it, this will put you on the / directory which is the root of the phone, not the sd card, and up in the top right corner it says mount r/o or mount r/w
by default it is read only r/o
hit the button and beside it you will see small text saying 'mounted r/w'
if it lets you mount r/w then you should be good to go.
just navigate to your /system/app filder, long press on the apk file you want to delete and choose delete, it will error out if you dont have r/w access, but make sure the upper right corner still says 'mounted r/w' - sometimes when you mount the phone in the opening page, it doesnt mount everything as r/w so you might have to mount the /system/app folder.
so, if you have it mounted r/w and it says so, and it wont let you delete or rename anything, then you know that you do not have a full root, just the partial root and you will have to go thru and reroot it for full access.
there are simpler ways i imagine but root explorer is the king of file explorers as far as i am concerned.
the only thing it needs is a built in FTP and SMB (windows network) explorer.

hmmm wierd.
maybe a bad rooted rom?
someone correct me here but do you have SuperUser installed?
doesnt he have to have superuser installed to do it via root explorer, or login to a terminal via adb with 'su' to rename/move/delete
if you didnt type su, and then get the $ prompt you cant do what you are trying to do. ... ???
i dont think you need to type su to do the following command but it probably wouldn't hurt ??
i am very adb green but do know enough to run some commands, its just that i prefer to do it with root explorer rather than command prompt.

You can use Estrongs File Explorer and use the root option. No payment required. Unless you are running CM ROM, be sure to turn off the root option before closing the program, otherwise next time you open ES it will give a force close.

wow I love this forum what a huge response in such a short time I'm gonna test to see if I don't have nand properly unlocked and I tried using android mate to delete the apks and that didn't work either but I'm running fresh 1.0.2 currently
Just tried using es file explorer with root explorer and mount file system as writable and deleted the apk and everything worked great the app is gone! Thank you for the help this means i have nand unlocked right? I must have been doing something wrong in the adb shell
You can also issue the command 'adb remount'.
The system partition is mounted read only at start up and this command mounts it read/write. It has nothing to do at all with your NAND.
Ok good to know thank you for the advice like I said I'm an adb noob lol
do adb remount then try again
I removed wireless_tether using root explorer. When i try to install another version of wireless_tether, it says i am trying to overwrite another app, then wont let me install because it says its a system app. then I go in to look and see if I had truly removed it , it has a different name "andro tether" under settings/apps/manage apps. It doesn't show this in the root explorer for me to delete it. How can I fully delete it if its not showing there anymore.
I still cant install the new version. Help

[Q] Acer A100 on ICS and Rooted but unable to rename files

Hello, I was recently able to upate my A100 to ICS. I followed the root instructions in the developer section and it worked great. Both Titanium Backup and Superuser say I'm rooted but I can't move/rename the wpa_supplicant file. I really need to be able to use ad hoc to tether to my phone. Did I do something wrong in rooting my tablet? Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks.
You need to mount system as r/w. Which file manager are you using?

How do I enable that? I'm using Root Browser, I never had to do that before in HC...it just worked lol. Thanks for the help.

I personaly used Root Explorer, its free and it has a friendly little buttong that has R/o R/W which allows you to read only to read and write
I redid the root and reinstalled Superuser, Root Browser, Titanium and Terminal...they all I'm rooted but when I try to move or rename the wpa_supplicant file it says failed. When I try to mount on Terminal it says it can't because I don't have root. What's going on lol? Did I do something wrong or is my version of ICS incompatible with the rooting method? Please help...

I noticed the same problem with Root Browser. It is probably not using the standard /system/bin/mount or /system/xbin/mount. Also it may be ZeroNulls mount script not taking in account for all possible mount scenarios. You could try my mount script in this thread forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1512787 and replace your /system/bin/mount and /system/xbin/mount.
If you are sure it's rooted then remounting from a terminal will work. Are you typing su before trying to remount?
If you are and it still doesn't work try this instead
Code:
$ su
# mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/mmcblk0p3 /system/
BTW root explorer is not free

Thanks for your help. I didn't know I had to type 'su' first lol. That worked...kinda. Because I have to retype that everytime I rename or move something. Is that some kind of bug in the script?

Yes that is a bug in the script. Using my mount script Root Browser is able to modify /system files.
Looks like the old wpa_supplicant file isn't working. I did a search but haven't found any yet that work. Has anyone been able to activate ad-hoc on their A100 with ICS?

[TIP] USB-CD-begone

This is a well-known tip, but it certainly couldn't hurt to aggregate it here.
Once you've installed (or blithely ignored) HTC Sync Manager, you don't want to deal with a file browser popping up every time you plug in your phone. To remove it:
Flash a recovery image (for example, CWM)
Code:
adb shell mount /system
adb shell rm /system/etc/CDROM.ISO
adb shell umount /system
reboot
enjoy freedom
should it be 'unmount'?
No, the command is named "umount"
I just deleted the CDROM.ISO with Root Explorer. I didn't need to reboot before I connected it again, it was gone.

Do you need to root access to delete that? I just tried with es file explorer and it wouldn't delete. I'm stock unrooted.

Yes you do... any root file explorer will do the trick, and it does ask for root access when deleting that file.
I figured that was the case. I was rooted so long on my rezound that I never had to worry about it.

Thanks I've been wondering why that thing pops up. I'll just use Root Browser to get rid of that.

ES File Explorer no root

Hey Guys,
I have rooted my OnePlus 3 and now I want to modify some system files with ES file explorer pro, but everytime I get the message " root not available" . I have granted access in supersu app. Root works with other apps.
Any solution?
This is an issue with ES File Explorer on Recent releases of SuperSU. Chainfire has mentioned it a lot times that ES devs need to fix it and he won't modify his supersu to make it work. So, ask ES Devs. You can see Chainfire 's Google+ SuperSU Changelog to know more about this.
Best Regards,
Naman.
Thanks bro!

Maybe try a previous version of SU.
I am using SU v2.74 Systemless with ES File Explorer Pro v1.0.7(Market) without any problems.

I have the SU v2.78 with ES File Explorer Pro v1.0.7(Market) and still get problems. The crapy thing is, the ES File Explorer free version (non-pro) works with root -.-
Since most probably you use the root explorer feature only on very rare occasions, it's not really a problem.
Simply use another root explorer if you want to access system files, period. Why bother.
Ive found the error

you have to extract the su file (arm64) from the latest supersu zip and place at in /system/bin folder
After this, ES FILE EXPLORER PRO is working perfect
There is an other solution as well.
Es file Explorer doesn't work with systemless root. I don't need systemless root so I have edited system partitions to make it work. There is no need to extract su binary. Empty files are enough:
In terminal emulator write:
su
mount -o remount,rw /system
touch /sbin/su /system/bin/su /system/xbin/su
mount -o remount,ro /system
I used to use an older version of ES File Explorer. I believe it was v4.0.2.3, it was around the time the company was sold and immediately before the total corruption of the free product. It also lacked support for systemless root.
The latest release of ES File Explorer was v4.1.3 on August 29, 2016. It has support for systemless root. The last release of ES File Explorer PRO was v1.07 on June 14, 2016. I haven't used it, but it sounds like systemless root support is still lacking. In the interim, I recommend using the free version or (far preferably) switching to an alternate manager like MiXplorer until the situation at ES APP Group is resolved.

App called emoji switcher

Hello
There is a app called emoji switcher. I don't like the Android MM emojis. and that app will change it to Lolipop or ios emoji.
This app did work fine on oxygen 3.2.2. Today i did update oxygen from 3.2.2 to 3.2.8. and the app wasn't working. i did figure out i can do this manual to by moving the file to system/font folder or system/data/ folder don't know which one it was.
But when I copy paste it it says operation failed by Rootbrowser paid version from speed software. And es file explorer gave me the error "read only file system". both app got root premision. I did read on the internet "try to delete apk files in system/app folder" I did try that to but i can't do that to....
Can someone help me ?
You need to mount /system as r/w otherwise you wont be able to modify it, even with root.
