Why does odin keep failing?? - Verizon Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a Verizon Note 4 N910V running 5.0.1 and trying to flash CF or TWRP fails every time. I've seen on other threads where lack of drivers or other USB devices or reactivation lock solved peoples problems, but I can't find anything that helps me anywhere. I have the correct tar file downloaded and I am attempting to flash it properly.
Here is what I'm seeing:

Doesn't look like you're rooted. Should say "developer."

Your bootloader is not unlocked. You may only flash official/signed Samsung binaries.

I've tried every guide that I can find online to gain temp root for the N910V running 5.0.1 so that I can unlock the BL and flash a custom recovery. How can i accomplish this?

You should be using the search function, but here, here, or here. Thanks to ryanbg and beaups for the exploit. This will get you to an unlocked Lollipop bootloader. I would strongly suggest that you read each thread thoroughly so that you know what you're up against and how to fix the inevitable boo boo.

i had a similar problem...

I had to use Kingoroot on the PC instead of Kingroot. Once rooted I had to leave the phone alone for a few minutes for it to stabilize.

Thank you :good::cyclops:
Use Kingo root app. Far easiest method.
I'm assuming you do not have a KNOX firmware installed so that's great for you - do NOT perform any software updates from Samsung!
The best method is still using the original method. Remember to flash the kernel if you are staying with the Samsung rom after the root.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2364980
Or if you do not feel up to the slightly more technical challenge then you can use the app as mentioned above

How do I check if KNOX firmware is installed?
Boot into download mode.
If there is a line that shows KNOX in it while in download mode then you have a KNOX firmware.

Great, there is no KNOX! :cyclops::good:
Is there a way to flash newer official firmware without including KNOX any other precautions I should take before rooting and flashing a custom recovery?
Kind Regards

If I ever flashed firmware with KNOX, does it mean I can never remove KNOX?
For now - yes

[Q] need help with gs3

Hello, i just purchased a new galaxy s3 virgin mobile edition..
I had like 6 updates when i turned it on and now i am on 4.4.2 kitkat which it's called kot in the system file..
Anyways i have been searching and searching for an easy oneclick root program..
I haven't been able to find anything that works at all...
So i am here to ask everyone on here..
Is there an easy sure fire way to root the galaxy s3 vm version?
That doesn't involve changing the rom or flashing something that might break something or brick my phone...
What happened to samsung? They used to be so easy to root and unlock it was like melting butter...
Thanks in advance
TowelRoot... Philz recovery has a one click root. Plenty of options. NDC is what your firmware is called BTW.

What I just told you to do (Philz Recovery, use the one that ends in ".tar.md5" in Odin- turn off auto reboot in Odin, it helps) then hit Reroot in Philz Settings after you get into Recovery, go into the Play Store and download SuperSU and go into the app and update binaries. This method is tried and true for your device.
My ROM: WICKED X
Do you have a link to the Philz root page?
I'll try it if I feel like it's not gonna brick my phone. Never had to root through Odin..
Thanks

All major initial root methods always ask you to flash a custom recovery through Odin always.
What he explained is correct you are just going to flash Phil's custom recovery then boot it into recovery click re-root and once booted install SU and update binaries.

You haven't told me enough to help you.
1) How did you upgrade? OTA or ODIN?
2) If ODIN, what file did you use?
3) Are you rooted?
4) Have you done a factory reset? Tried wiping data?
Also, you posted in the wrong area. Ask an Admin to move to Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting.

Hi,
I'm having a problem with Marshmallow and Sprint. I got a phone on eBay (I'm from Argentina), they said it was an SM-G920F but when I tried to upgrade it (as it had several issues and was running Lollipop) I found out that it was actually a SM-G920P.
So I installed G920PVPS4CPJ1, which was a bad idea as now I don't have mobile connectivity as (I think) the phone needs to be activated (Hands Free Activation or something like that pops up all the time).
When I try to downgrade to G920PVPU3CPF4 (a non Sprint FW) on the phone it says: "SW check fail - device 4 binary 3"... from what I saw on the forums it's because the Bootloader of the new FW is newer and preventing old FWs to be loaded.
So... how can I downgrade to ANY non Sprint FW???
Thanks!!!

You can't the bootloader won't let you install non Sprint firmware for a Sprint device. Installing firmware for a different device is a good way to brick your device, there is a reason they prevent this.

SM-T320: Odin Failure while trying to root

Hey all,
First time I'm trying to root this device, and a long time since I've rooted any device, so I'm a bit rusty ...
While trying to flash with Odin, I'm getting this error (looks like a write permissions error?)
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

}
This is what's shown on the device after:
The current firmware on the device is the stock 4.4.2, and I'm using the latest CF Root for it: cfar_samsung_sm-t320_mondrianwifiue_kot49h.t320ues1aqa2_t0
Update:
I also went to updato.com, grabbed my latest firmware, flashed it in Odin (it passed), then re-tried the above: result was the same as above.
Any idea what step I should take next?
TIA

It's been so long i can't even remember the steps i took but if i were to do it right now I would probably flash twrp in odin, reboot directly to recovery and flash supersu.
Edit - here's a guide https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...nstall-twrp-3-1-1-sm-t520-t3693342?styleid=21

Thanks, but you have to root before you can install a custom recovery; I'm stuck at trying to get the chainfire root installed.
I'm still stuck, anyone have any other advice?

Hi, sorry for reviving an old thread but I had this issue last night and wanted to share how I resolved it
I have the same T320UES1AQA2 model but couldn't get the CF autoroot to work either. I ended up going into recovery (Power + Vol Up + Home) wiping data and then flashing CF-Auto-Root-mondrianwifi-mondrianwifixx-smt320.zip which worked perfectly.
I know this is super late but hope it helps and anyone else who stumbles across this

Rooting question N910v just purchased. Can I rooting?

I have read countless post and have been to a dozen websites and I guess I am just confused if I can root this device with the current status, software/updates and security patches.

Yes, you can.
It requires unlocking the boot loader and installing a custom recovery. There are a few threads about it which makes it somewhat confusing. What it boils down to is do you want to use LL or MM to unlock it and once that is done do you wish to use the stock TW LL/MM or a custom ROM (TW/AOSP based).
Easiest to follow instructions here, uses LL to root:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/no...asy-guide-how-to-root-verizon-galaxy-t3454593
The hybrid way (LL/MM software mix, will require working SIM/Data connection to complete rooting), once done will be full MM based:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/no...t/howto-bootloader-unlock-upgrade-to-t3398144
https://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-verizon/general/shortcut-to-rooted-n910vvru2cqi2-t3763451
IF you want to run a custom rom, unlock the bootloader as outlined in the links above, install TWRP and then the ROM of your choice (TW/AOSP).
I just did both ways above not too long ago on a new to me 910v, then I ended up using the files from this post on the modified/hybrid way to root:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=76813374&postcount=16
Then I upgraded the partial firmware from here to CQL1:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/?id=15720#downloads
Yes, that means I wiped and rooted all 3 ways linked/described (BPA1, CPD1 & CQI2/CQL1) trying out the files/software. All 3 tries worked fine. I will say for me, Kingoroot worked and kingroot did not. YMMV
Andrew
Thx for all the info and the great news! I guess I thought that the phone might have been updated to far. I will give it a shot. Thanks again.

Hello, I just bought a N910V with same build number as yours. Did you have a chance to see if it can be rooted? (it seems all the instructions say cannot, just want to confirm. Thanks)
