OTA Update 6/22/16 - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note5

I am currently downloading the new set OTA. I saw someone else said it's just a security update, but the file I'm currently downloading is 1.6GB. Seem rather large for a security update?

Could you post the build number when you're all done?

Was planning on it. It's taking forever to download though.

I am downloading that as well. it's been an hour and the download is 1/2 way done. No where in the news does ATT mention either SW update OR a security patch.. Hope I am not disappointed after this..

What's the build no.?

This is it. It's been confirmed on multiple sites. I have yet to download it. I'm still on PE5

If this is a 1.5gig security update I'll take my note to my att store and jam it directly up the sales reps ass!

None yet. But there's nothing else it could plausibly be. It's 1.4GB, the same size as our MM sideloads. Security updates have been under 100MB.

OK I see it on android central that wasn't there this morning around 8am they just posted it later.

PE6, someone just posted a screenshot on Android Central.

6.0.1 released in Oct 2015 Samsung released March 2016 (5 months later) AT&T released June 2016 (3 months later than Samsung and 8 months later than Google) and this is a Flagship device?

The combination of an OEM known for being slow with updates (Samsung) and a carrier that's even worse, sad to say. A shame, really. The Note5 is an excellent phone all around. In truth AT&T is worse to deal with than the the the manufacturers themselves.

Time to go to Best Buy and have them push the update to my phone.

Any Best Buy with a Samsung Experience in it will update your phone. Im on Cricket and on the Samsung Insights program, so no side loading. I just checked Smart Switch and it is not available today.

Well that takes all the fun out of things in my opinion. You're gonna watch some knucklehead have at it like a drunk girl at a frat party. Half the fun is gaining the experience hacking away at an ADB shell and figuring things out on your own. Damn kids these days.... Get off my lawn.

so if we are on PE6 what is the point of updating?

You are not understanding, I would all day but my phone is a free phone, I cannot modify the phone being in the Insights program, I cannot side load the program. I have a Nexus 6 for real fun, this phone is just my meh phone compared to the Nexus 6.
Also, the guy I deal with at the Samsung Experience probably knows more about android phones than 95% of the users on here, he is an awesome dude. He actually helped me root my first free Note 3 from the Insights program and was able to keep Samsung from seeing it so I would not lose the phone. Samsung has got smart though with the program and can tell now.

If you're already on BPE6, there's nothing to update to. BPE6 is the build that's being offered OTA today to phones that are still on APE3.

Cos the idea we'll get Android 5.0 on the Note 10.1 2014 is a load of fragrant hot air?
Now waiting for 4.4.4..
Come on Samsung, don't keep us waiting.
4.4.3 is just a very minor bug fixing update from 4.4.2. At least we got Kit kat with an updated Samsung skin on top as well. That's honestly a much bigger deal than getting 4.4.3. Now all we need is a stellar ROM packed with some nice tweaks and features. The upcoming Hyperdrive ROM by Sbreen looks to be it.
They'll probably skip 4.4.4 and just go to 5.0.2 in December. Hopefully there's a maintenance update to fix the video bugs in 4.4.2.
Why shouldn't we expect Updates
>>By samsung-policy wise, galaxy note will be out of its 18 month support period so no 4.4.3
Why shouldn't we expect updates. If I buy a laptop with windows I get updates (in the case of my old xp machine for over 10 years) granted my hp or dell support has long since lapsed but I can still update the operating system for bug fixes and enhancements ect..
If I buy an iPad I get updates in the case of my wife for over 4 years now.
So My question is why should Samsung or the android tablet market function any differently?

Iphone 3GS/4/4S and Ipad 2//3 did get updates to iOS6/7, probably iOS8/iOS9 too.
Did all these got all new features and works flawless with new updates? Siri was left out on IP4.
Go google on how it worked and u got u answer.
Samsung, like almost all manufacturers, for almost all devices, uses to provide a single major update, and that was Kitkat. LG seems to be special. They can manage to provide two dozen "micro updates", seemingly only fixing baseband issues affecting operation with certain providers in certain countries. No fix list, but that was the purpose of Nokia updates in the past.
My LG L9 got an update from 4.0.4 to 4.1.2 one and a half years ago, from v10x to version v20a. This went up to v20p since, and there was never the slightest noticeable difference. Even a small wifi bug remains present since v20a.

[Q] Might be getting a little obsessive...

This is my first android phone on verizon before this i had the iPhone 5 for 2 years and before that i was on sprint with the evo 3d which was rooted... i didn't know it was a mission to get verizon phones rooted. Now im checking the forums everyday like 3 or 4 times a day to see if anything new has come up for root. Im getting desperate lol. People that have had previous note devices on verizon, did it usually take this long?
Lol you sound just like me! Ive looked everywhere. And now just sticking to xda hopen for some good news! I had a s2 rooted then went to ip4 to ip5s both jb. now im back to android with n4. N4 is a bad ass just waiting for this root to make it even meaner! I feel your pain bud!
Don't count on this phone being rooted on Verizon. If it's that important, you may need to switch phones/carriers. It's unfortunate.
It'll be rooted, just have patience. People are SMART around here, and they'll figure it out. It's still a fantastic phone as it is.

I don't doubt that the N4 will eventually have root.
I think the issues as stated is that CF needs an unlocked bootloader, which means either we get an unlocked bootloader (which I really doubt) or someone finds an alternative method. So yeah, nobody can predict the future, but this isn't like other phones like say on Tmob. There are more obstacles people with AT&T/VZW need to overcome. Saying otherwise at this point is very misleading to potential buyers and retail owners.

Note 4 will skip 5.0.0 and got to 5.0.1

According to Sammobile and Phone Arena, Samsung is going to skip the 5.0.0 update and jump straight to 5.0.1. I'm wondering if this will cause a delay in us getting Lollipop? If we have to wait for 5.1 then that will seriously push the timeline back as the carriers will have to wait for 5.1 in late February and then begin their testing and modifications...

To be honest, they probably had issues with Lollipop on the Note 4, therefor had to update it. I've seen this a lot with companies getting to far ahead of themselves. Let's just hope Samsung makes the proper choice before the carriers f*** it up even more.

Not sure where the "they had problems" wild guess comes from...
However, 5.0.2 is now available. Seems like Google is addressing any 5.0 issues reasonably quick. I have to imagine that the port from 5.0 development to 5.0.2 is not too hard. Intigrating the samsung code over whatever version of android is out at the time is more than likely the way it will roll. At this point it could even be 5.0.3 or .4

You can rest assured that if it were available there would be a version of it posted here on xda. When it is it will be on here within moments of the devs getting their hands on it or anyone for that matter.
Have you read the correct ones vause what ive seen says that us carriers wont start pushing anything till almost march
The Galaxy S5 got the lollipop 5.0 update in the USA. Thanks LG, while you're busy releasing the update for users in Nigeria, the enthusiasts in the USA are still stuck on KitKat... mine boggling......
Sent from my LG-D851
I'd not LG's fault. In the US the carriers test the software, have LG put their own software on the phone and then test done more. They are the cause if the delay, and with T-mobile they at have Wi-Fi calling so probably even more delay to test that.
Good to know, but I was wondering because I was going back to stock, but course leaving it rooted, but then there was an update. Was that the update that we're all waiting for? or is it just a minor update I think I saw something like 247MB don't know if thats correct but I was going to unroot my phone just to get that update, but thats not Lollipop right?
Alrighty then so... Thanks T-mobile....
Sent from my LG-D851
I think that tweet from LG USA was designed to put pressure on the carriers to hasten the release. Unfortunately for LG this may backfire on them. Most people think phone manufactueres are responsible for timely release of updates. US carriers need to add their bloatware and wi-fi calling in T-mobiles case to the new update. LG's part is done. Call your local branches and bug the crap out of them.
What is so great about lollipop? Xposed doesnt work with it among other things. I would not update even if it was available right now.

I would think this means the update is hitting phones on the 10th or 11th. Normally they keep the old update rolling until they hot swap with the new one. I would imagine only hours of downtime for updates if they don't hot swap. Then again some people still haven't received the ota notification yet... Who knows?

And yet there is no ETA for lollipop on the S5 (as for T-mobile variant). Judging the ETA for update for the LG G3 from the update intended for another device from another manufacturer is very immature.
Don't get me wrong, I would want 5.0 on my G3 asap, but I just want to point our that that date is irrelevant, just as the post from AP I linked suggested.

AT&T is a disgrace! Why haven't they updated the Note 5 yet when every other carrier has done so weeks and months ago. Even the Galaxy S5, a 2 year old phone is now getting the update on other carriers. I will definitely be switching carriers soon and I advise everyone to do the same.

People like us that worry about an update is about 1% of the total sales of a Note series phone. ATT losing you means nothing let alone the about 100 people that care. People switch carriers daily, losing 1 and picking up another will happen in about 1 second.

Thanks for the info, I already saw this but am afraid to try it. It sounds complicated and risky.

Super simple as long as you have adb, usb drivers and the zip file. Just place the ADB and zip files in the same folder and launch a command prompt from that same directory. Took about 25 minutes to install and so far smooth sailing.
Thanks for the info but you lost me at adb lol. And having to back everything up sounds scary as well as not knowing if this would void the warranty

Super simple turned in to me downloading all sorts of programs and resetting my phone about a dozen times yesterday. End result is I'm waiting for the official update. I can rebuild an engine with my eyes closed. Sideloading OS upgrades on my phone? Not so much.
So unbelievably, I received a software update this morning which turned out to be nothing more than a security update. Still waiting.

Not the official one from AT&T. They just released it today. You must have sideloaded it

Well, they're the same. The ota and sideloaded file have been compared and they are identical. This what he means.
