GPS Signal Lost Issue - HTC 10 Questions & Answers

My HTC 10 keeps losing its GPS Signal when I use Google Maps. To get the signal back on, I've to restart the phone. Is anyone else facing this issue? Or did I receive a faulty device?

Same issue in France
Hi,
I have the same problem using Waze in France.
Entering some areas (near Paris for example), I loose the gps signal.
The solution (to avoid loosing time and getting lost) is to activate the plane mode and disable the gps, then enable again the gps and remove plane mode.
I don't know if this is a result of one of the last OTa update or the device itself...

Same here. Hope this gets fixed by software update.

[Q] Big GPS problem with HTC Deisre

I have HTC Desire from 2 months. I don't remember when i check first the GPS but i think that all was OK. 2 days ago i install some GPS programs, but when i start then and they try to connect to satellites - nothing happen. I wait 4-5 minutes - nothing. Someone told me to install GPS Test from market to see did the telephone receive any GPS info from satellites. The program show that there are 8 satellites, but all stay in GRAY color (not in use). Does someone have a solution for this problem?
PS: Excuse me for my bad English.
I had the same problem and thought that my GPS unit was defective.. but it appeared that NDrive was having issues with the GPS chip and couldnt lock any sat no matter what.. On Google Maps it locked successfuly as on the GPS Test app from the Marketplace.. The only Nav App i've found to be working perfectly is Sygic Maps 10.. Its locking sat's and all is working well..
But since the GPS Test app doesnt lock on any of the satelites.. maybe you have a defective GPS unit overall.. When you connect to the sat's do you have a wi-fi connection running? because it helps since it has a-gps and it can download data for where the sats are located so it can lock on easier and faster.. if that doesnt help at all.. then send the phone back for service and get a new one...
with WiFi ON and GPS ON - it get coordinates on the 5th second, but it show that i am in the center of the city - WRONG!!!
only GPS ON - it doesn't take coordinates
I don't wish to insult your intelligence, but are you testing the GPS indoors or outdoors? It is very hard to get a GPS lock indoors. (almost impossible)

Or even a window. I got a GPS lock from the window of plane once at full speed. (on a Nokia n810)
i try it outdoor 10 meters away from any building.
When I updated my Desire to the 2.1 the gps has stopped to work. I upgraded to the 2.2, hoping there was a fix for the problem but also now the gps is not working. I tried one small utility to check the signal from the market but there was no signal detected.
I was using Copilot live 8 and the program was working good after the update but I had still the gps unable to work; inside copilot there is in the settings one utility to see if the phone is receiving signals from satellites but all was dead ________no signal.
Any suggestions?
I'd like to roll back to the version before the 2.1 where all was working but I don't know how. My phone is unbranded and unlocked from factory.

My software number is the same of your 2.09.405.8 CL218634 release-keys.
My only stupid thing was to update to the 2.1 and 2.2; before of the updates everything was perfect and also my 32GB microSD card was working better. Sometimes now I cannot find my videos or photos until I don't reboot the phone.
I don't know how to turn to GSM only, but my software number is 2.09.405.8 CL218634 release-keys.
I have just got the new version if Co Pilot live 8.2 and a copy of south Africa maps. Running LeeDroid 1.8b Rom. Everything working great. Even get GPS Signal inside at some parts of the house.

I do have the same situation here... in seconds I get a lock.
And I live in Brazil.
Actually I noticed something similar this past weekend. We (gf and I) rented a car to up north for the weekend (Yorkshire Dales to those in the UK, beautiful place) and in the Dales network reception is quite bad (it's a national park afterall).
I was using my Desire as navigation unit using Google's app and only got GPS signal whenever I also had network signal. If the phone lost network signal the GPS wouldn't work. If I for example switched off GPS (and wifi) for when we weren't in the car, turning it back on later, still without network signal, the phone wouldn't lock onto any sattelite.
Kinda defeats the purpose of GPS no?

GPS Problem

Hi guys,
Trying to figure out if this is just me that has this issue. New nexus as of yesterday on o2. I do have the volume issue for what its worth, but I am getting off topic.
I have been having a problem with the GPS. I have tried it indoors and out. I have restarted the app, cleared cache, re-ticked all the location boxes, and nothing seems to help my get a lock. The closest it comes is about 4700 metres. This is with WiFi turned on as well as an active Sim card in it. My old iPhone without a sim instantly drops the pin on my house. So I guess I am trying to see if others have the issue, and if there is a fix or I have to send it back.
For the record I am pretty new to Android....as in this is my first one, so go gently! Other than this issue I love the phone!
Cheers,
J

That definitely does not seem normal. See if you can replicate the problem in a less built-up area. But at the moment, if I were having the same problem (which I'm not, I get great GPS reception) I would take it back for a replacement.
Hope you get it all sorted.

Well I live in the country side, so that hopefully is not the issue. I turned wifi off and it made zero difference, so it looks like something with the GPS.......
I just tried the GPS app in the market called GPS Test
It says that GPS is on, but it can't find me. Bad sign.
I tried the GPS test app from the market too the other day and it didn't locate any satellites. I think it's a problem with that app itself. No need to panic yet.

I've been suffering from the same problem. I'm used to the GPS icon on the SGS2 showing me a (blinking) dot in the GPS icon. But now nothing.
GPS test app also shows it's on. I'm going to try the GPS out a bit more, but have the feeling somethings up with the GPS.
Using the Wi-fi it's working 'fine'. But I don't feel like sharing info while using this feature.
The captivate had a very similar problem when it came out. Not sure if it ever got fixed. But ultimately that's why I turned my captivate back in.
If you are in the country with no wifi around then I wouldnt expect wifi location to do you any good. Still though, it should locate much better than what it is. I'm in Afghanistan, in the middle of no where and mine locks while only using GPS to within like 30 meters.
original SGS line of phones were famous for their "awesome GPS"
no, it never got fixed because it was a hardware issue...
I'm having the same problem. I'm constantly unable to find my location using GPS. Wi-Fi and mobile networks work but this surely needs to be fixed.
GPS seemed to work after my little trip outside. Sadly as soon as I got back in, nothing. I'll be able to do some 'proper field testing' tomorrow.

GPS normally does not work well indoors.
I know but because I managed to get a location with the GPS on the SGS2, even if it took a while.
I was hoping for similar results (or better) with the GN.
GPS on my GN isn't working at all. Unless Wi-Fi and mobile network location is ticked, the phone can't find my location with GPS. Argh.
Have you tried any GPS apps to see if it's just bad reception from the satellites? That's one way to find out what's going on with the GPS on the phone.
My GPS locks almost instantly, and this is without a SIM card, and in Manhattan with tall buildings blocking most of the satellites. Much faster than with my N1.
no problems here.fastest phone ever with gps and i got 10 phones around 3 years with the function.
sitting in my room on the couch in the second floor.WiFi of only 2G network
and got within 5 to 7 sec a gps fix about 10 meters.
I reapeat,... in my house!not on the street or on the window!
sitting in front of my tv
never got a phone who can give me a signal in my house
my GPS also seems to work fine but during tracking it always goes off lock and relocks
and it bounces on corners like a gummybear

Sleep mode wifi loss issue - Possible Fix

Hello, I've been having a problem with my Samsung Galaxy Nexus ever since I have flashed my yakjuux 4.0.1 into Yakju 4.1.1, now the problem was that when ever the phone would go in idle/sleep mode, after some time (about 10-20 minutes) the bars at the top would turn grey, meaning that I would lose my wifi connectivity. Flashing to Takju hasn't solved my problem afterwards, but I have found an app in the Google Play store which has solved my problem and I wanted to share this with the other people who are suffering from this incredibly problematic bug.
The application is called Wifi Fixer by Zanshin-g1 once you download this app it will monitor your wifi real time and get rid of any connectivity issues when they are about to strike. I found it to be the perfect app to solve wifi issues. I hope it helps you aswell

[Q] Huawei P6 GPS doesn't get a Fix

Hi,
I have a GPS issue.
I purchased the P6 2 weeks ago.
It takes the GPS a long time (15 minutes) to get a fix on my location.
I have now upgraded to firmware b111 hoping it will help but it did not.
I have searched the internet to find more information and it seems that NEXUS users on JellyBean 4.2 had a similar issue that was eventually fixed by a firmware upgrade. Also I found other phones (such as Samsung SII) that once upgraded to 4.2.2 had the same issue (one of them even posted on h**p://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2203367)
I have also found several complaints from P6 users suffering from long delay times until GPS gets a fix.
I have installed App called GPSTest on this P6 as well as on a different Andriod phone that I own.
holding both phones I activated the GPS and started the GPSTest App.
The App showed that the P6 is 'seeing' less GPS satellites and that the signal strength from the satellites is received as weaker on the P6.
I have sent a email to Huawei to notify them of the issue,
I urge anyone suffering from the same issue to do the same a post the Fault information on:
h**p://consumer.huawei.com/en/contact-us/index.htm?tag=email
If any one knows how to fix it please post it.
thnx

I've reported to Huawei on this issue on their facebook but no reply from them.
You may try get this App from Play Store GPS Status - Test & Fix.
It works for me. I can get my location within 10 seconds now.:good:
I had a problem with the GPS initially on my P6. I would find that turning the 'phone off (power down) and then back on again would cure this until the next time I wanted to use the GPS when I'd have to turn it off (power down) and on again.
I didn't seem to suffer from this problem after upgrading to firmware 107 (from 105) but by then, Co-Pilot Live had also had an update so it was possible that either one of the updates cured my problems.
me too , i have problem with GPS , when i install some GPS program Sygic or IGO or NAVIGON , for first time work and when i turn again ... no gps signal no nothing ... Only work GoogleMaps ... i dont know why.... someone with my problem ?
Try B118 leaked rom.
I have the same problem with GPS getting a fix. I downloaded GPS info from Play sore and i get a fix in a few seconds. Very good app
Guys am recommending do not install latest gmaps ..! They SUCKS ! Just uninstall and it will uninstall just update .. older version will be still there..

I've been having this issue since I bought my P6: GPS radio literally dies, when you try opening any app using GPS that little dot with a circle in the notification panel's left corner fails to blink. I tried factory reset, b111, b118, GPS fix, gpstest and some others. GPS was back after trying some of this methods, but erratically.
This morning it was dead again and none of above worked. After reading some threads about this issue I read one mentioning that turning it off for a while worked for him. I did, and it worked. I suspect it is an overheat issue.

It's Google Maps
It's true.
The GPS receiver is fine. It's the latest updates of GoogleMaps that's causing all that.
After removing the updates, I had no problems getting a quick fix (pardon the pun).

Not entirely true. I had severe issues trying to get GPS fix with Ingress, so much so that it was unplayable. If you read the other literature it is definitely not only Gmaps.

From what I recall, the GPS symbol only shows when you are in the app that's using it. For example, when you are in Gmaps or Navigation you will see the GPS symbol blinking in notification bar. However, when you are at the homescreen, the GPS symbol disappears. Once you go back to the app, you should see the GPS blink again. BTW what firmware are you on?
At least you get some gps signal. I tried using TopNTP, GPS fix, GPS status, but nothing works on B125. D:

GPS Issues on N based roms, please help

Since I installed the first N OOS build i have issues withmy GPS,
every few seconds it lost the lock and needed a few seconds to reacquire it.
Also sometimes it does not acquire ay lock at all and need a reboot to work again.
As far as I can tell the issue happens with every android N based OxygenOS.
And also with Lineage OS 14.1
I tryed clean flashing booth and it did not change anything.
Now I flashed back to the last MM based community build and it works no lost of GPS signal, reasomably quick fix.
Does any other users also have GPS issues with N based roms on the OP3?
How can I solve the issue or at least find out whaty causing the issues?
Funny you mention this. I use my op3 for my topo maps when I hike and I have found N based roms to cause the gps to require a relocking. Also, the gps is noticeably less accurate.
Anyone got an explanation/solution?
good to herar that I'm not the only one with GPS issues.
Now the question is how to fix those?
I am also facing GPS issues since Oxygen OS 4.x.x, before that I never experienced any.
Sometimes it take 5 to 10 minutes until it finally fetches a GPS Signal but it is still very inaccurate then.
Hopefully the new OOS 4.0.3 update helps, but I doubt it since there is no mention of GPS in the release notes.
I also have this issue, the only resolution I had is to switch on WiFi scanning. After turning it on GPS has been a bit better and locks to the correct location quickly.
Sent from my OnePlus3 using XDA Labs
Ok I found out something new when I set mobile data to 2G GPS works great also on the 4.0.3 OOS ROM.
And since people complained since the start that some have issues with GPS and 4G I guess the issue really is that if some particular frequencies are used GPS suffers. Apparently something changes in N ROMs that makes the issues appear for more users.
Interestingly is that flashing Modem Firmware has no affect so the issue is in a part that is in the android kernel itself.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3/help/gps-issues-t3416544
Every time I turn location on, I get the "improve location accuracy?" prompt. Every single time.
How can I stop this? Never had this before, usually goes away after one enable.
Another strange thing sometimes the GPS cant get a lock and the only way to fix it is to restart the phone.
the bew Open Beta 12 based on Android 7.1.1 seams to have resolved my GPS issue really strange
Hi - I also do have heavy problems with losses of GPS- signal at the OP3 since months. Especially while using LTE the GPS gets often lost. Since 5 weeks I am working/struggeling with the OP-support a lot - but no changes till now. @David: "Open Beta 12" has solved your problems?? what is this concrete?
i do have the problem...... from 4.0.2 updated to 4.1.1 and now Beta13, the problem still there~!!
On my phone gps signal gets lost always at the same location and when lte is active. On any other location gps works perfect. When i disable lte everything works perfect. This has happend on any rom. I think this is a hardware problem and can not be resolved. The only solution is disabling lte or using a different provider. I am using o2 in Germany, the problem does not happen with other Providers. Different Providers have different frequencies, this might be the difference between o2 and the other providers.
I do have O2-LTE too and it is "under suspicion" in Germany. But in February I was for 4 weeks in Florida and travelled a lot using navigation. The provider was AT&T - and I had very often losses of GPS-signal too.
I can confirm, that the problem happens with different ROM, but not at only one location - it happens everywhere.
But what can we do? OnePlus is working at this problem since months without a solution - and the customer with this bug really have to accept it "for zero"??
Hello @OPFan , did you get help from the support? Or could you resolve the problem?
3 months of contact - lots of bubbles - no solution

I'm having a lot of GPS issues since I've been using OPO or OP3.
I sold my OPO because of the bad GPS. Now I have the OP3.
On both phones I used custom ROM Cyanogenmod.
I sometimes had bad GPS reception, but this was fixed under Cyanogenmod doing this: Disable GPS, Disable Data, Enable Airplane mode, Disable Airplane mode, Enable Data, Enable GPS, then wait for GPS reception and start navi app.
Last week I flashed my OP3 with another ROM (AOSP) but this only made it worse!
I use my phone as car navigation daily, and while navigating, it finds GPS and it loses GPS every 5 seconds (using WAZE app). It's incredibly annoying. Using AGPS or any other "fix" found online doesn't fix the problem.
When using another navigation app, like Google nav, it's works better (because Google also uses LTE). Clearing cache or unistalling and reinstalling the WAZE app doesn't fix the problem.
Conclusion:
It is totally not related to your provider because they are working on fixed standard frequencies and I've been using the same provider on both phones.
It's also not related to the hardware only, because it was working on my OP3 under Cyanogenmod. So it should be related to the hardware driver included in the ROM.
Maybe this gives anyone an idea?

I have also GPS issues. It works well in gmaps, but it is unusable in Waze.
I thought AOSPA was causing it so I cleanflashed latest OB, but GPS issues are present there too
