Oneplus 3 camera and gallery wonkiness - OnePlus 3 Questions & Answers

Hey guys,
I've had the OnePlus 3 for a wild 2 days and its definitely the best decision I've ever made phone wise. I like the camera, though it does oversharpen a bit, but the thing that really annoys me is how they have done the gallery with the camera. I'm not sure if they have a consistent system for when you are able to slide to see photos and when you cannot, but it seems arbitrary to me.
Basically, they have chosen to only allow the user to look at the pictures taken in that app session, which I can understand for some situations, but its a strange feeling when I open the camera app (double click home or launch app) and swipe to see my gallery and it just keeps saying No Photo. Seems like a strange departure from previous camera apps I've used. But sometimes, I open the Camera app and can swipe to any picture. I don't get the differences if there are any.

Anyone have a good rationale for it? This is not just me, right? Am I missing something?
Thanks and I hope to OnePlus with all of you in the months and years to come.

This is done to secure your data/photos in case someone finds your device.
When you open the camera app without unlocking your device by fingerprint (pin,...)
it does only show you the photos from the current session.
If you unlock your device and start the camera from the hoemscreen it will show you all your photos.
This has been this way on all my previous devices and also on iPhones for example.
What is weird is that it also shows no photo after unlocking when you open the camera app by long-pressing a navigation button
or double-pressing the power key.
edit: ok, after reading your post again I noticed that I basically repeated what you already wrote... I'm too tired :/

Same here. I was about to say this.

Taking photos with FLASH blacks out a part of the photo

I use an otterbox case for my Xperia Arc S, but this problem happens with or without the case, even without the battery back cover.
Whenever I take a picture with flash, there's a part of the camera that doesn't capture the picture properly.
These two pictures will explain it better
Without flash ---------------- With.

And it can take up to the half of the pic aswell
You see how a part of the screen blacks out, so yeah, if I flip the phone and take the photo, the black thing will appear at the TOP of the picture, so that's the way I know that it's just a part of the camera that has this behaviour..
An important thing to say is, this doesn't happen at stock ICS and hasn't happened before at any 4.1.2 ROM, I can take pictures perfectly well. I'm using Slim Bean 7, a 4.2.2 ROM with the @nobodyAtall 's cm10.1 3.4.59 kernel.. not sure what's wrong with this, but I'm sure that the camera is not damaged. I saw that @mikeioannina was modifying things with the camera at his cm10.1, so I don't know if it has something to do with this problem I'm facing.. :L
In addition to the details.. the camera preferences are the default stock ones.
and, the problem just happens when flash is put into AUTOMATIC, you know, when it gives a little flash before taking the pic like a digital camera, all phones do that. But, the picture comes out perfect when I leave the flash permanently turned ON, like a torch.
Auto Flash:
Torch-mode flash
Same pic, same position, same angle...

[SOLVED] Only two camera modes?

Hello people,
I'm new to HTC world (had only Samsung devices before), but I've recently managed to unlock my bootloader and root the phone and ever since I've done that, my vanilla camera has only two modes available (Camera and Selfie). Before rooting I remember more options. I haven't touched this camera app at all, what's the problem?

Hmm something is wrong you should have more modes. Did you try erasing data for the camera app?

Yes, this happen in some launchers if they have shortcut to open the camera. Just use the main camera icon.

i also have same problem, i have 2 modes in camera 1st is selfie 2nd is photo booth. how to fix it??
i have done hard reset but issue is not fix

Back camera stopped working

My back camera/light has recently stopped working. This phone is less than a year old so this issue is frustrating. At first, I was able to reboot the device and the camera/light would work for about 30 minutes or so. A month later, it only detects the front camera. Now I can't select or add the camera in the Camera app. My flashlight app just freezes if I try to open it. I have some screen shots below. I used an app called System Droid Info to get my hardware information and it seems to display only the front camera specs as if it's the only one connected (maybe I should try another app?). Not sure if this is related, but it also started occurring around the time I installed the latest OTA update.

Things I have done:
-Cleared Camera data/cache and rebooted
-Disabled/enabled Camera app and rebooted
-Force close/reopen Camera app and rebooted
-Powered device off/on
-Factory reset through bootloader
Does this sound like a hardware failure? Are there any other steps I should take? Any help would be great, thanks!

hey @poupdujour, this happened to my M9 whilst i was trying to capture lightening in a thunderstorm (not relevant, but i thought i'd give you a back story) I was able to get the camera "working" through 3rd party apps like whatsapp and instagram but the image was flipped upside down. did everything you went through and even went back to stock, nothing helped.
Think it must be a hardware issue, I sent mine back to EE and got a 24hr replacement.

Media share not working correctly

I have an S20 Ultra on T-Mobile, and the media share function acts like it has no memory. The quick select doesn't work, it's like I'm sharing for the first time every time so I have to choose the app and recipient. I've already cleared the cache for quick share and made sure direct share is turned on. Any idea if there's any way to make it remember the apps and contacts, or if there's any settings I need to change to make it work like it did on my Pixel 2 XL?

I had a somewhat similar problem. In my case, I had only 2-3 contacts that never got updated with the recent people I was interacting with.
What helped is to go into the album app and enabling access to contacts (if I remember correctly). After that the quick sharing part started working again..

Do you mean gallery app? I tried that, and it didn't seem to help.
Got a security patch a day or two ago, and as of today the share option was working again. Mysterious ways.
Coming from S10+ this is really frustrating. Share menu is a mess and in any app that I want to share photos it never remembers my top contacts or even top apps.

Question [SOLVED] Very strange ongoing camera issue

Hi, I have spent the last few weeks searching XDA, OnePlus and various other forums for an answer to this issue but have come up with no working fix.
The camera on my OP9P works absolutely fine sometimes, but other times it will show the feed for about 1 second and then freeze, completely unusable as the OP Cam app will also become unresponsive. Other times it will work, but the wide-angle 0.6x lens will not be accessible, the button for it will just not be there. Other times it will work 'fine' but the 1x lens will have a very strange overlay on it (photo attached).
I have tried every cam app on the first 10 pages of the Play store and even installed older versions of the OP Cam app and I eventually get the same issue. It happens in every app I use: WhatsApp, Instagram etc.
I have installed various ROMS also and still had the same issue.
Has anyone heard of this issue before, or know what it could be? My gut says it is hardware related but if I restart the phone, it usually works fine with no physical changes to the device.
Device was purchased around September 2022 and is in great physical condition, currently running OxygenOS 13.0 (LE2123_11_F.75).
Any help will be much appreciated.

Is that 100% sure? I thought it could be hardware but a simple reboot usually fixes the issues for a little while.
I've reached out to the supplier who is going to repair it. Frustrating but quick response times so we'll see what happens.
