Hello guys, i'm planning to unlock my phone's bootloader, since its my first time on my Zenfone(I only use tethered recovery to flash root and xposed, i also have experience of unlocking the bootloader before on my previous device Xperia ZR but done it in a official way) i was wondering if the unofficial method i'm reading on some sites won't void my Asus warranty?
If any of this links is the right tutorial for unlocking bootloader in a unofficial way, kindly tell me if its still working for the latest 2.20.40.184 LP Firmware:

Try it with the current firmware if it doesn't work then u can try dowgrading
U should see a white boot screen instead of black if its unlocked

Nope there is no way to lock ur bootloader once unlocked(unless u want to flash MM Beta Firmware)

I see, after using the unofficial unlocker asus won't recognize my device from using it right? so i still got my warranty even if i flash MM Beta to relock my bootloader?

Yes if they don't find it via other means then u r ok with warranty
I don't recommend flashing the MM Beta Firmware cause it can potentially brick ur device

Actually, i already tried MM Beta before but i got annoyed by the bugs and lack of root functionality before so i reverted back to LP Stock.
Gonna wait for the MM Final release instead, atleast now i know how to unlock bootloader when MM Final is release incase there's no Tethered Recovery yet. thanks again for the response and tip.

I highly doubt that the current bootloader unlock method would work on MM Official release cause it doesnt work on MM Beta
Maybe some new method will be sorted out:fingers-crossed:

You will need a custom recovery in order to flash it!
Or you can just flash the SuperSU zip in recovery and it'll be rooted

I'm curious. I've never used a device with a locked bootloader. Since this tablet is about to get the 4.4.3 update, will unlocking the bootloader affect the update? Will I still receive the update.
I'm planning on unlocking the bootloader but not flashing the rootzip yet until I get the update.

Yes, you will still receive the OTA. Having an unlocked bootloader has no effect on updating via OTA.
You could just root and then re-lock the bootloader

That won't work. If you relock the bootloader everything has to be stock.
It would just refuse to lock

Only recovery needs to be stock to relock the bootloader, you can unlock, root and then relock - then you have rooted stock ROM and a locked bootloader without having to flash a custom recovery or ROM.

Are you sure? This wasn't the case with my Motorola Xoom. I thought everything needs to be stock, wouldn't this defeat the point of relocking since its meant to be factory settings for warranty purposes?

fair enough, I stand corrected! Didn't know you could re-lock a rooted device.
So could you flash OmniROM, flash stock recovery and re-lock?

From what I understand, yes, that is correct - although I have heard that some ROMs require a custom recovery

Hi guys just after some info. What is the difference between rooting and unlocking the bootloader on the LG G3.
Also do you have to have the bootloader unlocked to install the various stock roms kicking about on the forum , if not why not.

Rooting basically let's you modify the system files anyway you want where as the boot loader is there to stop the loading of custom ROMs essentially as long as you rooted and bumped the device flashing twrp you can flash any custom rom but I think you need the kk bootloader not the new lollipop one

Yes. The Lollipop aboot is going to break the current "Bump!" method of getting custom ROMs on. However, the devs will likely bypass that, just don't take an OTA before it's cleared on here (likely won't be).

Yes. the lollipop one is more picky about what ROMs it will start, and I believe it has the Bump exploit fixed.
What's the best and easier way to root the h815 version while on MM and without the bootloader unlocked?

If you are on lollipop and you rooted without unlocking the bootloader, you can unroot by writing a kdz on lollipop rendering the phone clean, then you send it. There will be noting to see for the lg service.

its still not clear to me... if you have unlocked bootloader, can you have root and recovery for 6.0 MM. casue i think i read some post saying if you want root and twrp then go back to 5.1.1.
is it because they havent found a way or MM cant be rooted? sorry if am not getting this right . nut i rather ask then to not know.
To make it clear: if you have unlocked bootloader you can do anything - install twrp, root etc. If you have locked bootloader you can only root in 5.1, you cannot root in 6.0. With locked bootloader you can not have twrp either in 5.1 or 6.

It depends, most of them can, as the download mode does not require a lot of power and the big cores are not in use, but some could not connect the phone with lgup

second, make a root kernel or download one
third, unlocked bootloader your devices
fourth, flash android 6.0.1 and flash root kernel
finish ! enjoy your root devices
Well... The method I mentioned has the DRM simulation included. Read some in the tread if you are unsure.
Not sure why you should mess with 5.x before rooting... I rooted directly when unlocking 6.0.0 and downloading the 6.0.1 version with flashtool.

The reason for flashing android 5.X is only if you've not already unlocked the bootloader and decided on taking a TA backup so you can restore the phone to stock in the future

You can fully reactivate your drm keys as well on an unlocked bootloader (so not just emulate and for restore to stock) if you backed up your TA with iovyroot on LL by flashing restore-drm-keys.ftf

Yes, use fastboot or factory reset and install a custom rom. Do not restore (anything) with the version of TWRP you are using and you will be fine.

Hmm, somehow I missed your actual question. I'm not familiar with the downgrade process using Flashfire since you want to factory reset to move back down to Marshmallow.
