Zenfone 2 power button sticking - ZenFone 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I circled the switch in this picture (I posted this on reddit with the source, i can't post outside links here. Sorry for broken link, i don't have enough posts for proper links) imgur . com/JWUOnVc
Anyway, the switch gets stuck down and if I accidentally press it then the phone will just turn itself off and I can't use it until i get a pen/something small and put it in the little slot to pull it out, press it again, then pull it back out. It gets stuck all the way down, and my warranty is void due to it being over a year old, disassembling it, and unlocking the bootloader. I really like this phone, however this stuck power button is driving me crazy. Is there anything I can do to fix it? I really don't want to disassemble it to the point of removing the battery, but if I have to i will. Any way I can fix this?

That picture is useless , cannot make anything out.
Can you describe where you press ?
Is it the white rectangular piece at the top?
If it is and this sticks in when pressed ?
Then it's a collapsed switch internally.
You would just be bodging it for a short period if it is ,send it in for repair
Can you send better pictures, so can get a better picture of its legs which take pressure on the pcb..and its actual circuit?
If you know someone good with electronics, you could get them to put a minute tiny reed switch to its circuit and place it somewhere with a bit of space..then you could use a magnet to switch on outside the device.
Depends how much your phone matters to you

Same problem here, my power button is stuck, I have to use the phone without the back cover. I use the double-tap for screen off/on but I can not switch off the phone.
It seems the button is a small SMD and not easy to replace on the motherboard, button looks like this: https://fr.aliexpress.com/item/For-...wer-on-off-button-flex-cable/32804672233.html

[Q]DHD first was in safe mood and when I decided to reboot it it didnt power on

Hello,
Since short time ago, maybe like 10 a 15 mins my DHD was in safe mode, I don't know why at all and have always treaten my DHD with love.
So after I saw the safe mode I decided to reboot and after since I did that then phone doesnt seem to want to powerup, the syptom is like following, when I press the power button I will hear the phone vibrate twice and then the green led will burn and the phone doesnt seem to do anything.
So I have removed the battery and tried to boot in recovery mode with holding down the down volume button and and press the power button, this had no effect at all.
I hope someone could help me, I hope this is just temporary and that I do not need bring him in for warranty, I have rooted the phone and run RCKingdom 3D on it.
EDIT
I put full battery inside, now the red led blinks, before I get first the same 2x vibrate.
EDIT
Okay I just got in recovery mode, but when I reboot it via recovery mode i'm back with the same.
EDIT
After pressing volume down and power button, I saw the RCMix3D boot screen, and now i'm back into the normall mode. Someone still explation for all this? It rained today and there got some rain on my DHD, but not much, but you can't really avoid that.
EDIT
I changed the battery because I need charge my spare batterys and again problem with the vribate, but this time after few time trying with volume down and power button I get into my phone again.
It might have been water damage. It probably just needed some time to dry before working again. Other than that I have no logical explanation.
Yes thats what I though to, but something funny was that rain drops on screen seemed to enter letters, but well I think you might be right that it was water damage and just needed to dry, I think there nothing you can do to prevent your phone get wet when it rains, but I will not use it much during rain.
Lets hope this will not happen again, I love this phone to much for it.
EDIT
Its defintinly no water damage, I'm in ClockworkMod Recovery now and my volume down button doesnt seem work corretly, when I wanna go down it doesnt react, but go up it works.
I think I gotta contact HTC and if I send it for warranty then I gotta restore it so that bootloader is back to S-on because I understand you don't get warranty when you have a unlocked bootloader.
Volume down hangs
Hello,
So I have figured out what's wrong with my phone, the down volume button just hangs and its quite serious.
As i'm able to get in quite hard I should get back to orginal firmware and get S-off from my phone and get it for warranty.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=857537
So if I use that tool then I should be back to the stock firmware?

well i didnt really follow the link. but if it involves a usb cable and a ruu .exe it will get it back to stock. still sounds like water damage though. check inside the doors and make sure none of the sticker have changed colors. including the one on the battery.
can also try putting a paper towel on a flat clean hard surface. phone screen down on the towel. and giving a couple good whacks in the general area of the volume button. maybe pop the battery door off first so it dont get damaged. as long as you dont physically damage it, your not out anything but time tryin this. if it dont work you was gonna go through the warranty process anyways.
dont blame me if you go overboard and break something.
I reverted back to stock and putted S-on back. I called HTC already and they will take it into warranty tomorrow they will come and get it.
I got battery out and I see on white sticker with a little black sticker on it with saying void, also sticker on battery is still white, so no signs off water damage at all, and it looks the volume button just hangs.
Its still under warranty and its almost impossible that it get water damage from some rain drops, even when you call the screen will get some sweat on it so it couldnt be water damage.
I have heard damage issues like these with phones more often.
EDIT 24-06-2011 18:22
Its a mystery but phone works suddenly good again, the volume down button works good again, react when I press it and phone boots without problems, I'm happy for it because in case it was water damage then it costed me € 40 and as far as I heard the phone fixers in my country will say its water damage even if it isnt so i'm really realeved.
I'm going hope it stays like this, but so far it looks good

An alternate way to 'Power On' HTC Desire?

Hi!
I managed to break my Power-button, while phone was off, and how I can't' really get it on again.
So my question is; Is there any alternate way of turning my HTC Desire on, instead of the Power Button?
Thanks in advance;
CjC
i dont know much about hardware hacking on the desire
but i think there isnt much you can change because this is so low level that no software hack could fix it
so your only opinion is you let it fix by customer support or by disassemble and fix it by yourself
as i said i am not very into that materia, so i could be wrong to but i dont think so ^^
best wishes
Hi!
Thanks for answer : )
Ye I already tried do disassemble it on my own, and from that I bent one of the pins to the battery haha : (
But I fixed it, but my power-button is still f***ed...
So I have a working non-working Deisre atm ^^
a buton is just a button.. if you can locate the button (well not the plastic, the phisical hardware) you will see that there are 2 wires coming out from it.
you just need to short circuit them (hey that's not a bad thing! that means making a bridge for let current pass even if the button is opened)
That can be DIFFICOULT, the solderings can be small or there cannot even be soldering but just copper pattern under fiber. In that case you can use a tiny knife to peel off the glass fiber for reveal the copper but can be dangerous, you can cut the copper extending the damage.
if you are good in electronic if you can turn it on with just a whire or a screwdriver as I says you can take a mouse button (as this http://www.soselectronic.com/a_info/img_data/h/dts31.jpg) and make it your default one, but it will be ugly, difficoult and maybe it will need some maintenance.
trying with the warranty is free and I think that it is valid!
let us say what they tell to you.
hope I helped you mate! ask more if you need
if you manage to boot your desire you are safe
that and in the boot menu is the only thing you realy need the power button
after that you can simply mod a trackpad to wake/unlock into your rom and use a widget to go to lockscreen
than you only have to watch your battery so your desire doesnt run out of power

Yes you did help alot with this answer, but unfortunately, I ain't no electrician!
Your advice with the picture was good, but I don't really know where to get one of thoose. I ain't no genius when it comes to smarth-phones, and my I broke the void on my phone so...
But I didn't quite udnerstand the short-circuit thing.
can you explain?
There are no wires coming out of the button :\

Hehe, I know, but how can I boot it with no powerbutton?
Nor can I enter recovery-mode with no powerbutton!
But thansk for your answer!
well sorry i'm half electrician so i can explayn things in difficoult way.
well starting on the short circuit thing:
it means close the contact, in simpler words when you press the button it just makes 2 contacts to touch each other
so the sys will see that there's a current flow and he thinks ("uhm button is closed better startup")
I'm watching some photos at desire breakoff and i can see that it is a sort of smd in a small case.
So now I may suggest you to don't make nothing, finding the contacts for who have a medium knoweleadge of electronic devices can be pretty simple, and using a screwdriver it can turn your phone on.
I cannot tell to you if it's possible coz I haven't teared it apart yet.
BTW after the first startup you will need an application that will let you lock and unlock the phone via the volume key (it exist) and eventually some jumpers for turning it on again. it will be pretty scary for who is not "in the field"
by the way i found this thing
http://mobilehq.com.au/productDetail.aspx?productID=20225
it may interest you... and the photos are too small for see the button type, especially from behind where is there thay maybethe button is soldered on the board by Those things (URL)
just locate the correct 2 and it's done. usually ther are just 2 on mouses.
oh the micro buttons are reperible in any electric store (even smaller but without the "push and he will come up by himself" effect) or inside a pc mouse (broken is better) switch never* broke down on a mouse and there are at least 3
but they may be too big.
what about the warranty?

thanks button if i'm helping helps
Possible temporary solution
So i know this is quite late but I stumbled on this trying to find a solution and I'm sure there's a chance others might too. I have this issue on my HTC 610, and I found that pressing and holding down the volume buttons at the same time turned it on. Hope this helps anyone else who has a similar issue

[FIX] The way to fix the infamous Power Off Loop Issue

**Just to be clear, I am not responsible for anything that goes wrong with your device but actually, your phone is pretty much useless with this issue if it isn't fixed so lets just give it a shot like I did**
So I bet a couple of you guys may heard of this issue, I'll be giving the link on what this issue is about (if i can find the link).
Do note that this fix will result in damaging the exterior of your phone if you don't do this carefully. Lastly before we begin, you'll lose a power button completely and switching it on requires your phone Charger and a few button combinations
Now in order to fix this, you'll need
• A plus-tipped screwdriver
• A flat head screwdriver (bigger ones are prefered)
• Your "unusable" Galaxy W
• A whole lot of patience
1st step is easy, just disassemble your phone till you have removed the Main Board. There is a guide you can follow to do this on YouTube by the Channel L355ON5 if im not mistaken
2ndly, when you get to the main board, flip over your board such that the main camera module is faced down.
3rdly, you're gonna find your power switch. When you found it, you can see that it is made of 2 colours orange and white.
4th, heres the tricky part, use your flathead screwdriver and apply pressure and scrape off the white part of the switch COMPLETELY. Its okay if you damaged your power switch because you won't need it anyways.
To check if your phone is fixed, you can clip the Display's flex cable into the main board, and then use your battery and connect it to the 3 pin contacts. If your phone did not boot, thats good news because from Keith's post (if you can find it) we know that if you try to insert the battery in the phone, it will automatically switch on by itself and that means that you haven't fix the issue nor solve anything really.
So lets say everything went correctly as mentioned above, you can now screw the parts back together.
So to turn your phone ON, connect your Phone to youe wall plug and then quickly press the button combination keys for going to Recovery Mode upon switching on you your wall plug switch. You shld then be able to go to Recovery Mode and reboot your device
Now all of this may sound scary to you but I've done all of these steps and I got my Wonder back exactly a year after I broke it. :sly:

How to access internal storage when power button is ripped ?

Hello,
I have a Samsung Galaxy Nexus. Yesterday, power button has stopped to work. Nothing was happened when I pushed it.
I tried to open the device (my mistake ) and I tried to see if there was a problem. By opening device, I have accidentally ripped the power button component. So, now it's not connected to the nappe.
Logically, it's impossible to start device now without that connection between power button and nappe.
My problem is that the internal storage of my device contains a lot of photos that I would like to save.
Do you know if there is a way to get these photos ?
Thanks by advance for your help.

i had that problem with another phone....which had a work around
but you may not like it.
1. you may be able mess with the pins in micro usb to get it to "trick" itsleslf on (idk if itll work for this phone, dont really wanna risk frying the phone too)
2. buy a new ribbon online. i took mine apart to paint it . and luckily this phone has a ribbon that slides and locks onto the board instead of soldered on
3.idk what bootloader you have but yours may have an option to take the battery out. *button press comb.* then you can get into download mode(which wont help) but could bring you into the bootloader....unlocked of course.
otherwise....
~*option 2*~ is the best course to take...and they are cheap

Hello,
Thanks for your answer.
I took option 2 for the moment and I bought power button nappe on internet.
I wait to receive it and i will try the operation of last chance lol.

assembly
When I put mine back together. The sticky back to the buttons wouldn't hold to put it back together.
I used a razor....clean it up and scrapped the sticky back to some Velcro I had.
I would hope they send it with the ?double sided tape? Needed to hold it on.

[GUIDE] Poco m3 Deadboot TEMPORARY Fix

1. Open phone (watch disassembly vids online)
2. Unscrew top panel screws (except mi warranty sticker one, if you want to keep warranty)
3. Disconnect battery connector
4. Wait 20 secs
5. Keep power button pressed for 1 minute
6. Wait for 1 minute
7. Keep power button pressed and connect battery connector, then release power button after like 2-3 secs
8. Phone should be starting up (connect charger as battery may be low)
DO NOT EVER REBOOT OR SHUTDOWN THE PHONE OR YOU WILL GET THIS ISSUE!!
Note: There is a more permanent fix where you desolder some metal lids which cover the charging/logic ICs, but this guide is for those of us who can't/ can't afford to get that done.
(i made this account just for this)
thank you soo much , this worked multiple times for me , however would you mind telling me the steps for the "more permanent fix" , i have a friend at a repair center and if u tell me the steps i may be able to fix it

i never reeboted the phone again (but when i go out on a hot day with my phone in my pocket , when i reach home it will be off , so i have to do this temporary fix again and again )
HI @zeon_ , the more permanent fix was something I saw in some yt vids online, you could probably find it easily there, I'll also link some at the end of this reply.
I wanted to mention that the fix I mentioned in my post worked for me about 3-4 times before my phone shut off and wouldnt turn on even with this fix, I ended up having to get it repaired, but it wasn't very expensive and it works perfectly fine now.
Just wanted to give you a heads up because this fix didn't work forever for me as I'd hoped it would.
I'm sure that if you have a friend at a repair centre he would be able to figure out what to do, but here are some videos anyways. Most of them target a small metal lid on the bottom left of the motherboard, some say to remove it completely while others say to only remove the two larger caps under it, then reinstall it. They all claim that the metal lid is somehow shorting with the power circuitry underneath, resulting in the deadboot issue. Some also recommened replacing the power ic which I believe is in the larger shielding with the hole in the top to its right (seen in 3rd video). You might also be able to find longer length videos online.
Again, I don't know how reliable these are, proceed at your own risk. I would recommend just handing your phone over to a recommended repairer in your area after backing up and removing your data from your phone.
